I've been on a hunt for good cinnamon rolls it was amazing soft and fluffy. Try to get there as early as possible as they run out they usually have different rotations on their pastries, but the cinnamon rolls are a consistent item that stays . We were in the Bay Area for my husband's birthday and I wanted to stop by my hometown to walk around Park St in the afternoon. We both needed a pick-me-up so I came across Signal Coffee while checking Yelp for recommendations. We were immediately greeted warmly by staff. The shop is small, with limited seating indoors and a few chairs and tables outside. It was a beautiful (unseasonably warm) February day, so we wanted to sit for a bit outside anyway. Competition from Starbucks and Peet's is right next door, but that doesn't matter when supporting a local business that brews delicious coffee. The menu is limited, which means quality is first and foremost in mind. I was drawn to the unique latte choices, and ultimately went with a large iced black sesame latte with oat milk. My husband went with a large iced dulce de latte with oat milk. Our drinks were made in almost no time, and of course paired with a smile. We took our coffees out to the outdoor seating area with a grand view of the historic Alameda Theatre. While the lattes are on the pricier side of what I'm generally used to, the quality shines through. These were definitely some of the smoothest lattes I've had in a while, and the flavors of the black sesame and dulce de leche were delightful. After sitting and enjoying the fresh air for a while, we brought our coffees with us to finish enjoying them after a walk on Bay Farm Island. What a way to wrap up our lovely afternoon. We will be back to support Signal Coffee Roasters the next time we're in the area! read more

Seating is very limited so I would recommend it for a grab and go type of place. The staff are always super friendly and helpful especially if you have questions or want to try something new. Been here a few times since they have opened - consistently good. Love that they provide a birthday discount that allows for two months of redemption. Strong macchiato and smooth almond decaf latte. The empanada shell was flaky and crisp and lots of filling! The breakfast sandwich has a thick layer of pillowy egg and cream cheese - opted out of the ham. Came here for an ube latte and got 4 shots of espresso which might have been my mistake. I couldn't taste the ube too much but looking at something purple and drinking it makes me feel like i'm tasting ube (good enough) don't get 4 shots if you want to be able to taste the ube! I pass by this place a few times a week and have never popped in. Today, I decided was the day to try them (finally!) Was greeted by the barista - Joey - and he was so nice. Treated me like a long time friend and asked me what I liked and suggested a pumpkin latte made to my level of sweetness. I wanted to write a kind and awesome review for Signal but I don't think my words could justify and explain how great the staff here truly is. Not only do they make my drinks perfect everytime, they make the best breakfast sandwiches. Signal also has a huge assortment on pastries and sweet treats. Best part, I think the owners are dog lovers since we can bring our dogs and hangout outside and they have doggie treats for our Furry babies. The employees treat each customer that walks through the doors like an extended family member. Emma and Tom usually help me since I come in around the same time and days of the week. Everyone here is super nice. Emma has a warm and charming smile and has a bubbly personality which makes everyone she helps feel like they are walling on clouds. Tom is a super chill dude and we always talk about our dogs and I always look forward to conversing with him. I hope the owners see this review and acknowledge how spectacular their staff is. I love this coffee shop! It's so cute, everyone is so nice, and there are so many options for drinks and food. A received a gift card from one of my students and was able to use that. It's a little pricey for sure, but worth it. I was really surprised based on how great their lattes look in photos, but ended up with two very mediocre cups of latte. This was honestly some of the worst coffee I've ever had. Unfortunately, I was in a rush and didn't have time to go back for a refund. I ordered a black sesame latte and an ube latte. By the time I tried them in the car, one burned my tongue and both tasted burnt. There was no thick foam like you'd expect from a latte--just big bubbles, like something you'd get from a cheap automated coffee machine. Definitely not coming back here. read more

In town for work, I looked up roasters nearby and I'm very glad I found this place. Very unique drinks on the menu, the Ube is amazing. Had a classic cappuccino, the barista did an excellent job with the ratio of wet to dry foam. Cute little sitting area in front and out front by the famous Alameda theatre. WHEN: Fri @9am (Nov) This review only covers their rotating local baker: SOULED OUT PASTRIES. Is it bad that I came here only for the pastries? I swear next time I'll buy a Signal Coffee beverage! But anyway, I ordered a few pastries to go: CRÈME BRÛLÉE DONUT - Main reason why I came here. I see the hype. It's custard, but a bit on the bland side. BANANA BREAD w/CINNAMON STREUSEL - Somehow I just wanted to eat the part here there's the streusel. I want more streusel! The rest is just okay--a bit dry but not bad. This is a personal taste, and I love sugar. SWEET POTATO PIE DONUT - Maybe I should lower my expectations when I hear a pastry that sounds super unique and special. Maybe because it's bland to me, but I wasn't thrilled about this one. BRIOCHE BUN w/ROASTED BUTTERNUT SQUASH, CHÈVRE CHEESE & TOASTED SALTY PEPITAS - I remember this being around $7 which seemed crazy for something that wasn't that good. But perhaps the ingredients cost a lot. This was also underwhelming and just dry all around. APPLE FRITTER w/a SPICED GLAZED & OAT STREUSEL - This was like a regular braised donut that is flavored with spiced apples. Not that much out streusel though. It's honestly fine. Overall the pastries are okay, not that sweet (some of you may appreciate), and it's a nice selection to choose from. Maybe I didn't select right, and would need to give it another go. This location of SIGNAL has become my go-to coffee shop when I'm in Alameda. It's conveniently located right off of Park Street so it's near other restaurants, shopping, and the theater. There's a parking lot with meters right next door or you can park on the street. The shop itself is small. It's mostly takeout with a small seating area (maybe 3 stools) inside and more seats outside. Service is usually pretty quick and I've never had to wait long. Their coffee on its own, if you're going for a classic espresso drink, is really good. Whenever I go here I like to try their specialty/seasonal lattes and I've yet to be disappointed. I recently got their burnt honey latte and it might be my favorite yet. Just be prepared to spend $6+ on a cup of coffee, which I guess is pretty regular these days. They also sell other canned drinks, seltzers, juices, and canned versions of their latte. If you're hungry, they have some snacks and pastries available. And for the local biz lovers, check out some of their cards, stickers, and merch from local artists. read more

Dropped in after an appointment for an Ube latte! Soo good. Foamy, creamy, robust flavor that's not bitter or weird tasting. It's a shame they aren't busier like Peet's or Starbucks! I came in on Saturday just before noon. I saw that this coffee shop opened recently and wanted to check it out. I've never been to any other Signal Coffee Roaster location before this. I got a drip coffee ($3.50), matcha latte with almond milk ($5 + 0.75 cents for almond milk) and a pastry ($4.50). They had to brew a new batch of coffee and the friendly staff let me know that it'll take 5-10 minutes. I got their house made coffee cake donut. My boyfriend enjoyed it. They have both house made pastries and other pastries from Starter bakery, I believe. The matcha latte came out nice and hot (not piping hot). After a few sips, I couldn't taste much matcha flavor and just tasted like hot almond milk. :/ I think you can get it sweetened or unsweetened. I asked for it to be just slightly sweetened since I don't like my drinks too sweet. The inside is small but cute! They sell some merch and greeting cards as well. They have some seating by the front window and outdoor tables and seating too. I may come back to try some other drinks and people watch from their window. read more

I got a cappuccino and three donuts. Cappuccino is small, about a 6 ounce cup. I wish there was at least one more shot of espresso with some more milk since the cappuccino is $4. Not sure if they would charge more if I request it, but I also did not request it because I did not know how small it would be. However, the quality is not bad and is your standard cappuccino. I would love to check out their other drinks but I also did not want to have anything too sugary since I also got their donuts. I got three donuts. The BEST donut was the creme brulee donut. The custard or the filling was so good! In my opinion, it is sweet but not overly sweet. Balances out quite well with a coffee! If you get a plain coffee, definitely pair it with this donut... so good! The creme brule donut is $4.50. The next donut I had was the brown sugar crumble (I think this is what it's called). This one was actually quite surprising! It is not sugary at all (except the glaze area but it's a nice amount of sweet taste). Definitely get this donut if you or someone you're grabbing coffee with does not want anything sweet sweet but still wants a donut . This donut was $4. The last donut was the cookie butter glaze. This one was the sweetest one. Too sweet for me but I can imagine would pair nicely with a black coffee. This donut was $4. Overall, the donuts have a nice fluffy texture to them. I would definitely come back for that creme brulee donut if I want to give myself a treat....! The donuts are pricey but I am glad I tried them! The barista who took my order said they run out pretty quickly so I got the last one of the creme brulee. Just some small issues - two of the donuts didn't have labels or the price. The barista told me what they were when I asked so I got them. The other items had the labels and price so I think they may have just forgotten? The door automatically opens fully when you open it. I got smacked by the door when the barista was going out lol but she was very apologetic. Do not stand near the door if you're waiting in line. There's also no bathroom so if you're planning to stay for a while... this is your heads up lol The baristas and staff are nice and friendly. One of them seems more on top of everything than the other two, so she had to manage the cash register and the coffee. If you have to wait a bit, just be patient. There's outdoor and indoor seating. It was pretty packed on the weekend when I was there. read more

Cute coffee shop in downtown Alameda! Great selection of coffee and specialty drinks. We got a drip coffee and the ube latte. Both were good. For food we had the everything bagel with hatch green Chile cream cheese and a breakfast sandwich with egg and cheese. Both were absolutely delicious! Our bill was about $28 which is expensive but on par with every cute coffee shop nowadays. They also had a large assortment of pastries and donuts. Parking lot is on the right side of the building and free on Sundays. They have some bar seating inside and a few small tables outside.
