    English breakfast tea
    Hope L.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon and ordered an English breakfast tea. It was $3.50 and I was honestly pretty disappointed as it was literally just a tea bag and hot water. They didn't put any milk or sugar in it and didn't even offer it. The tea was way too hot to drink and I had to wait 15 minutes before I could sip it. When I was finally able to drink it, it was lacking so much flavor and was super bland. I ended up taking 5 sips of it and throwing it in the trash. Super disappointed as it was expensive and not worth it.

    Salmon Power Bowl

Local Montclair sandwich & salad cafe. Came here after my usual nail appt because I'm starving. Decided to go for the healthy option and got the salmon power bowl. Removing a star because the salmon was delicious but for $21 I feel like the size of the salmon was a smidge too small for what you pay for. The amount of avocado was also pretty paltry. The rest of the bowl was generous with the super thin slices of cucumber, cauliflower rice, edamame, and slices of fennel, red cabbage, and onion were plentiful. It's nice they have individually wrapped compostable utensils and tapatio packets for those that like more spice in their food. The Rishi tea packet selection was also impressive, as was their pastry and cookie selection. Their to go fridge has a good collection of grab and go items. Will come back to try the Asian Salad and their chicken salad sandwich.

    Iced Matcha latte

I was in Oakland and wanted to get a matcha since I'm not a coffee drinker and saw this place appear and had. Finding the place wasn't too hard since the door is literally the name of the shop, a Yellow Door! It was made it very unique and it was nice and clean inside. They offered a variety of drinks and food. I really wanted to like my drink due but I have to say it was probably the worst matcha latte I ever had. I saw the barista prepare the drink and noticed he used a lot of milk, which watered the whole drink and I did not taste a hint of matcha. I would not come back for the matcha but may be open to check out the food options in the future if I'm back in the area.

Ambiance: Cute inviting locale in the Montclair Village that has both cafe style seating to have a coffee date with a friend and high bar stools with marble desks and nice accents that makes it feel very homey inside. The big windows and sunroof allow for natural light to illuminate the space which is a great change of pace if you're stuck inside all day. You'll be tempted by all the pastries and to go options behind the glass displays that it'll perk up your hunger just standing in line. Service: this place is very popular and you'll most likely see a line but it moved quickly. The workers are welcoming and work very quickly. Food came out after about 5-10 minutes after ordering. They forgot to add in the lentils and quinoa to this for my plate so that sucks. Food: Special Bowl: (4/5) Off-menu item that is a good mix of arugula, butternut squash, pita chips, and hummus. The pita chips provide a much needed crunch to this otherwise soft food dish. The butternut squash will add some carbs while you'll get half your daily need of greens from the arugula. I heard you can dress this up with hot sauce and while I didn't do this I agree it could use something to liven it up a bit. I didn't get to try it with the quinoa or lentils but otherwise a good option to try, I would prefer to try other things though. Breakfast sandwich: (4/5) eggs, sausage, cheese, English muffin. Nothing fancy here but what separates this above others is the smoky romesco sauce. Almost like a tapatio but a little more smoke to it really makes it special. They toast the bread nicely so you get a crunch texture to the muffin without burning it. Would certainly get it again.

Chicken Buddha bowl, salmon Buddha bowl, iced latte with vanilla, chai latte

Came here to fuel up after a workout. The salad was good. I liked the salad dressing and the mix of toppings. Iced latte was also good. We got the coconut brown butter cookies as well and it was good! And I normally don't like dried coconut but it worked well with the cookie.

    Amazingly tasty chicken salad sandwich

Yellow Door is one of the best places for a bite in Montclair. There really are not enough high quality breakfast/lunch/coffee/baked good places like this around the east bay! Very good coffee, delicious baked goods and simple breakfast choices, amazing salads and I must say their chicken salad sandwich is outstanding in flavor and texture. It's one of those sandwiches you take a first bite and say, 'OH MY G'!!!! So VERY tasty. The roll is a perfect soft but not too soft compliment to the chunky fresh chicken salad within. You must try this sandwich if in the area!

This place is crazy popular for a reason. Really solid breakfast and lunch options. The turkey sandwich and breakfast sandwich are awesome.

There are glass cases full of breads, cakes, eclairs, tarts and other delicious looking baked goods. On the top of the cases are jars with a variety of cookies to choose from, as well as, one of my favorites, their lemon shortbread bar. The lemon shortbread bar is amazing. They stack the wedges in a large lidded glass jar, each wedge separated with a sheet of white parchment paper. I believe this is one of the hidden gems at La Farine. The shortbread crust Is tender and buttery and hold holds it shape well when you bite into it. The lemon curd is creamy with the right amount of tang, and there is a thin sweet layer of crunch on top of curd that puts this bar over the top. The balance of textures and flavors is perfect. I also highly recommend the chocolate eclairs. Each one is filled with a generous amount of piped whipped cream, a pate choux with good flavor and texture, and topped with a rich, silky layer of chocolate ganache. Overall their prices are reasonable -lemon shortbread bar $3, and chocolate eclair 3.50. I decided to give La Farine four stars because on a previous visit I had a slice of the Moka cake, and was not impressed. It is an attractive and delicious looking cake with lovely pale moka colored frosting surrounding layers of dark chocolate cake, however, the frosting lacked the coffee and chocolate flavor combo that I was looking forward to, and sadly the frosting was more waxy than creamy. That being said, I will definitely be back to search for the next delicious gems at this very lovely bakery on Piedmont Ave.

Sometimes, the pizzas are a little overcooked which causes the crust to be extra crispy and a little burnt. But it doesn't change the deliciousness of it. It doesn't matter what they put on the pizza of the day, I know it's going to be tasty. Arizmendi's pizza 100% makes me forget about meat on pizza. I have tried a couple of their baked goods, which have always been good as well. They also have soups of the day, which I surprisingly haven't tried. If you're ordering more than 1 pizza, I'd recommend calling ahead of time so that you don't have to wait a while. There's typically 2 cashiers, always a small line, but you'd be in and out under 30 minutes max. No music, just the sounds of pure hustle trying to get everyone served. There is limited indoor and outdoor seating so keep that in mind. Parking may be tricky as well as there are a lot of surrounding businesses.

Everyone has causes they care about, and many of us do our own advocacy in different ways, but not everyone wants to sign petitions while trying to cross the street or grab lunch. He then accused me (and apparently others) of not wanting to engage because of his skin color, which was completely inappropriate and inaccurate. My decision had nothing to do with our skin .. I simply was not interested in signing anything or stopping to discuss a petition at that moment. It escalated to the point where two other women nearby also felt uncomfortable enough to respond. One said, "This is not the way to do it," and another said, "I don't even have money." It was unfortunate that his approach put people in that position. Just a heads up for anyone visiting: be prepared to be approached at the crosswalk, especially since the light can be long. On a positive note: the pizzeria itself was busy, but everyone inside was pleasant, I found a quiet corner to sit, the coffee was warm, and my $3 slice and $1.25 coffee hit the spot.
