    Alaskan Omelette

Cute and casual little local diner that we've been getting breakfast at for 20 years. It feels like the only thing that's changed are the prices. They have classics, we love the lemon ricotta pancake special. The omelette came with a whole lemon scone. The food isn't the most fancy but it's solid and we like it.

This place makes me feel like I'm at home on a Saturday morning. My go to breakfast? Ricotta Special: Two ricotta cakes, one egg, and your choice of two bacon strips or pork links. Served with real maple syrup. All for about $19.00. And don't forget some of the best coffee served in the East Bay. Never rushed, always friendly, reasonably priced and consistent. If you find yourself walking casually up College Ave some morning, Matt says check out Rickridge Cafe. It will take you back to your childhood

I hadn't been to the Rockridge Cafe in decades, but I'm so glad my friend and I stopped there yesterday. Our waitress was terrific, and the food was wonderful. We both had omlettes with hash browns. I had the blueberry biscuit with mine and it was delicious. I am so glad we stopped there. I'll definitely be going back.

I've eaten here for years & get same dish each visit (short rockridge breakfast), the service is good and so is my dish but never hot just luke warm. I've brought this to the waitress attention several times & was to be mentioned to the cooks but still no luck, always luke warm like it's been sitting/waiting on the toast. The cooks needs to work together and be in sync when toasting bread & not let the plate of food get warm..Today same thing waiter said he would mentioned it, but still warm. The waitress waited till I finished & ask if it was ok, I just said yes but it wasn't just gonna take a break, $20 is a lot for a small plate that's not hot..

This place is awesome. Old school diner with an expansive menu, and most things are under $20. The lattes are tall and priced right. Food comes out quickly, hot and flavorful. Service is friendly. The vibe is relaxed, nothing fancy. You can look into the kitchen and watch them make your food. Love this lil diner. Not sure why the rating here is less than four stars; should be more.

So.... was this from the kids menu? $20?!

What a bad experience! The food is terrible. The staff is nice, a d the setting is cute and quiet... but the food! What is going on? Just terrible. It was $55 for two small breakfast plates, and two drinks (1 coffee and 1 tea). Insane. Even for all that money the food portions were tiny. Like half of a normal adult portion. The potatoes were undercooked and hard, lacked flavor, and honestly tasted like a day old reheated baked potato. The hash was mostly potatoes and peppers with probably 2-3oz of actual corned beef.. which you wouldn't be blamed for overlooking, as it had almost no flavor. All I could taste was those soft peppers and a little onion. My wife's eggs Benedict came out with one of the yolks actually broken out of the white as a hard exploded solid yolk. They just slathered it in hollandaise sauce and said, "okay, ship it out!" Awful. TL;DR: Super expensive, small portions of bad breakfast food.

We tried this Oakland cafe on a nice Sunday morning. Meh. I have the Marion Berry Ricotta special, which I was excited to try. Two small pancakes, one egg, and two strips of bacon. Not much value for this $20 meal. The pancakes were fine. They didn't bring much flavor beyond a normal pancake. My sunny-side-up egg was undercooked. Coffee was good (as expected in the Bay Area). Ambiance is the American breakfast diner. Service was good. I would not choose to eat here again.

The Rockridge Cafe has the best breakfasts in Oakland! We have been consistently impressed with their breakfast and lunch menus! Yesterday we shared their ricotta pancakes and their homemade chicken salad platter! Both were delicious. We never had ricotta pancakes before snd we were impressed by how the cheese added a delightful subtle flavor and their chicken salad was perfectly prepared with just a hint of mayonnaise! Whenever we're in Rockridge, we love returning to the Rockridge Cafe!

Great place to start your weekend! It is a local casual cafe, great for a cozy brunch. Food is homey and simply amazing and tasty. Tacos are delicious. Service is reasonably quick and you may seat yourself most often and there are inside or outside options. Portions are generous and shareable.

The Marionberry Ricotta Special is an excellent choice. The Marionberry syrup was delicious! The pancakes were fluffy and warm. No additional maple syrup was need. The eggs were cooked to perfection. The bacon was freshly seasoned and crispy! Worth the price!

They are located in the Temescal area of Oakland, and they share a building with a Mexican restaurant. There's a parking lot that's shared with a pawn broker, produce market, and check cashing service. Their vibe is urban, with a rainbow flag on their front door, and assortment of plants inside. Other reviewers had mentioned a line upon opening, so we made sure to arrive 15 minutes before they open, but on this Friday morning, there was no one else but us. Our server was friendly, polite, and soft spoken. Their menu is quite small, which I appreciate. There's appetizers, sides, brunch, and dinner -- all on 1 page. Their food was outstanding, with rich flavors and beautifully presented with sauces and pickled radishes. We ordered... + Shanghai Lumpia - these were long, crispy, and properly filled + Daing Na Bangus Silog - deep fried milkfish with salad, garlic rice, and sunny egg. One of our favorites. + Fried Chicken (4-piece) - perfectly crispy and juicy. There's some warm spices in the batter, maybe all-spice. + Adobo fried rice - the pork was so tender, it shreds on your fork. This had a good amount of tanginess that was so good. + Pancit Sotanghon - not your typical pancit. The chopped veggies in this had an almost charred flavor that made the dish so interesting. There was not a bad dish. I definitely recommend this for elevated Filipino food that's not pretentious, with a modern, hip vibe.

Lush greenery abounds. Servers are nice, checking tables frequently. What fell short for me was the taste. Restaurant quality food but flavors are so divorced from the og that diners looking to satiate their Filipino food cravings will leave unsatisfied. Filipino food has very strong pungent flavors whether salty, sweet, sour, bitter, and definitely umami. It should punch diners in the mouth, no ands, ifs, or buts. Adobo sa gata (aka adobo in coconut milk) is a regional specialty. The sharpness of the vinegar mellows out with the addition of the coconut milk. But there should still be a clear and distinct flavor profile. The eggplant omelet was almost there. Liked that it wasn't greasy but again was searching for some punch of flavor. Maybe I needed to ask it they had a garlic, chili and vinegar dipping sauce. Or maybe atchara (aka pickled veg). Didn't care for the sticky rice dessert (aka suman). Didn't like the pureed texture. The green mango garnish was better when I dipped the slices in salt. FOB Kitchen's food is refined. Maybe too subtle and restrained. I get it. The chef has to appeal to the western palate, a wider audience than just Filipinos, to survive in an industry with razor thin margins. I look for good food and flavor, not necessarily for authenticity. So yes, I would still recommend this restaurant, for good eats but not for Filipino food.

A huge punch of garlic, which I really enjoy, so wings were 4.9/5. MLK Cafe was perfectly located and exactly what I needed. I've never had Eritrean food before, so I was pretty excited. I ordered the foul meseleh ($13) from the breakfast menu (available all day though I had to ask for it), which was a bean-based dish, and chai. It kind of reminded me of shakshuka in terms of spices but the beans almost tasted meaty. I liked it so much that I brought it home, and my partner said it tasted like refried beans (though he did have them cold). The crusty warm bread was perfect for dipping, and I ended up not being able to finish it. The chai was pretty milky; there was a tea bag and the spices weren't very strong. Then again, I'm used to Indian chais. I would pass on the chai. There was basically no one else there on a Friday afternoon during off-peak hours. It was dimly lit and kind of chilly because the door was left open, so it wasn't the most comfortable cafe ambiance. As a result, it took a while for them to be able to stop by our table and provide water, take our order, etc. There was quite a long wait between sitting down to ordering to actually receiving our food. By the time we had actually received our food, almost an hour had passed. While we were waiting, a few other servers eventually joined, but service was still pretty bare for us and we never received refills on water or plates to eat off of when we received our food. I understand that staffing and a backup in the kitchen are out of the staff's control, but it would've definitely helped for us to know in advance how long to expect to wait to align our expectations and arrange our plans for the day. Would advise giving customers a quick heads up/warning because that on its own would've made a big difference. As for the actual food, we ordered the mac trio with elote mac, chicken pot pie mac, and kogi short rib mac (for an extra fee). The elote mac was the best and most flavorful, the short rib mac was okay but not amazing or worth the extra money, and the chicken pot pie mac was very bland/flavorless and didn't have much chicken in it. The food didn't feel like it warranted the wait time and because of that I would not return.
