We just moved to the area and are so glad we tried this place today! The chilaquiles were bomb and really well presented. And the make-your-own-omelette was also delish! They served a cute plate of cut fruit when we sat down which was a nice touch! Neighbors, go to this place. It's really homey and delicious.

It's a local pizza place at evenings and cafe / brunch place in weekends. Pizza are out of world, so delicious and well baked. Brunches are OK, again it's a very cozy local friendly place with good service. Has a very friendly homie atmosphere with local people and teenagers. Inside is large with many tables. Great for groups, kids, meet ups and gathering. Serves alcohol and has big screens inside for sports or TV's. Could be a cool sport bar too! read more

I need everyone to know this place is wonderful. The owner is kind and so respectful, as well as the rest of the staff working at this business. It is family owned and has such wonderful food here. The chilaquiles were so well made and felt homemade! There is also huge screens available to play local sports games and the music playing is very lively and fun. I may have just found my new favorite breakfast spot. I was on 30 minute waitlist for a popular cafe in Montclair and decided to drive 1 mile over Highway 13 instead. It's just breakfast; I am not there to be seen. This place is spacious, the staff is gracious, the food is good and I just ordered a second latte because the first was so delicious. I have never done that before. Red Boy's is a breakfast cafe until 2 pm. They close at that time to switch to being a pizzeria beginning at 4 pm. There is ample seating inside, and outdoor seating on both sides of the street facing sides. It's clean, airy, and a great place to bring a family. If you want to be able to hear what your companions are saying, this is a great place to catch up without having to waste time in a line. read more

Maria and Daniel are the staff/owners that added their magic sparkly hospitality dust to an already delicious breakfast with a dear friend. I ordered the greek omelette and it came with delicious potatoes and toast. The portion was large too! I mentioned we were celebrating my friend's birthday and they brought out a large piece of scrumptious tres leches with a candle and didn't even charge us for it. I made sure to tip them well. The place was clean & cheerful and set in a cute Oakland neighborhood with easy parking right outside the door. read more

This is a great spot to grab some lunch or breakfast in a quiet little neighborhood. Plenty of seating, and the menu has a good amount of choices. Be sure to try the Turkey club with chipotle Mayo. The French fries are nice and crispy, and the milkshakes were super tasty!! The staff was very nice and happy to accommodate our requests. We will be back again! read more

We had breakfast here. This service I believe is only available in this branch and only on weekends The food was surprisingly good. We are not much into Mexican food. The food definitely has some Mexican influence. But flavors are more of a fusion that was masterfully blended to make it an experience. Me and my wife had been long time foodies. We would normally go out to patronize family owned businesses. We thought that because this branch offered breakfast that it wasn't under the Red Boy Pizza franchise. Maybe it just happened to have the same name. But it is under the Red Boy Franchise. Except that you will see the owner's family there which is typical of those family owned small business. read more

First time customer and I could say that the service was incredible and the food also amazing . My daughter made friends with the staff and the owner was kind enough to give her some pancakes . The restaurant was very festive with their super cute decorations. Very cozy to have breakfast with friends and family . Check them out ! We loved the delicious yet homemade feel of the breakfast we had the last time we came a year ago. Service was lovely, and such a great place for kids! Unfortunately, when we tried to visit last Saturday (Sept 2024) around 11am, they were completely closed . When I called the number listed, their voicemail says they are only open in the evenings (it sounds like they're no longer doing their amazing brunch service?) My kids were SO bummed. This was their go-to special pancake spot in the neighborhood so if the owners are reading this, please come back on the weekends! We would be there after every soccer practice if so ! (Yelp needs to update the hours, we actually made our way here based on the fact that Yelp said it was open!) read more

Such a hidden gem. I'd highly recommend the chilaquiles. The French toast was also delicious. The avocado toast was decent, but I probably wouldn't order it again. Everything was really reasonably priced -- below average for the area. It's a casual place and perfect for a low key brunch. read more

First time here for breakfast. Service was great. We had the M&m scramble, pancakes & chilaquiles. Scramble was huge, I had 1/2 the meal to take home. Pancakes were ok, good size but taste was ok. Met my girlfriend here for breakfast and it was delicious. 1st time. I had the pancakes which were tasty and I have to say the cook made one of the best scrambled eggs I've eaten in ages. Light and fluffy. Our server was Maria and she was so sweet and helpful. My friend had eggs and potatoes and she said it was delicious. She asked Maria to surprise me with something sweet for my birthday. The entire staff came out singing Happy Birthday with a slice of amazing tres leches cake. AND they didn't charge for it. Daniel chatted with us when we were leaving. So friendly. They're working to have more breakfast business on the weekends. FYI: they open at 8 am unlike what the hours say online. And the addy is 1500 Leimart Blvd, Oakland! I highly recommend Red Boy for breakfast/brunch. Go frequent a local family run business! read more

Came here for breakfast one Sunday and it wasn't that busy. Coffee drinks were good, and everyone ordered the chilaquiles which were good as well. We ordered a side of pancakes which weren't our favorite. All in all it was an ok experience. Nothing to write home about, but nothing supremely bad either. read more

Red Boy Pizza by night, Red Boy Cafe by morning! Diamond on the corner, a definite suggest!!! If you are in a hurry for breakfast, not the place for you, but if you want a place to have a good conversation while you wait, yes please! The surprises kept coming...after ordering breakfast we received a fruit appetizer. I do not recall seeing it included or on the menu but the fresh fruit was amazing. Drink, orange juice was good, tasted freshly served. However, the breakfast-winning drink was the chocolate milk!! Keep this in mind, this will fill you up. The chocolate milk we ordered tastes just like a chocolate shake without the ice cream! I'm sure the other flavors are just as amazing!! We ordered and shared French toast that came with 3 slices, bacon and scrambled eggs. This was shared by two people and was plenty, especially since we had everything else. The other order was an omelette with spinach and bacon. I was told it was very good. However, the take away from that meal was the potatoes. Small bite-sized pieces with some sort of spice that gave it a nice zing!! Small groups recommended due to its small size but a nice place to grab your morning beverage with family or a friend outside. Neighborhood was quaint and quiet on this Sunday morning. Weather was cool and made for a pleasant experience. Staff was helpful, attentive and was pleasantly surprised especially in this world where it's hard to find good help! Meal was under $50, included 2 chocolate milks, orange juice, omelette, bread, eggs, French toast, bacon and fruit. Please spend the time and visit this location. read more

Today we found out the vendors were switched and there are only refrigerated wraps, sweet pastries, oatmeal, and drinks available. As a member, I felt there should have been a survey sent out to ask what visitors would like to see here. If there was, I didn't receive one because the menu now only caters to adults. This is a place we bring kids to so the menu should be geard towards kids. The prices are also a bit high for what was served. $11 for a small Turkey wrap. Customer service is not all there either. My kids and I were disappointed. We will have to bring our own lunch or come here during non lunch hours next time. Hopefully there will be changes. We would love to see some healthy and hot food options here for kids in the future.

Their focus seems mostly on drinks and coffee than food, which I think is unfortunate. They do offer limited grab/go prepared items. I'm not sure if we saw the full compliment, but what we saw were a limited selection of salads, sandwiches, and wraps. There were vegetarian selections. What really strikes me though is that the selections seem more for adults than kids. And anyone who visits Chabot knows there are a ton of kids who visit. It would be a good idea for the food selections to recognize this. If this doesn't change, it will likely inspire parents to consider bringing lunches or change their plans so they they eat before or after visiting. I sure know I will.

The next weekend found us taking our seats at the communal tables under the redwoods (dress in layers), being poured cups of well-brewed Peet's coffee. Even though it was clear that we weren't from Canyon (CoCoCounty's last bastion of hippie-dom), we were warmly welcomed. The food's good -- omelettes, fruit, and so on. The stand-out item on the menu is that bacon-stuffed waffle. The Baffle. That's genius, that is.

But I have to wax poetic for a minute: today I ate the very best pastrami I have ever had. I grew up on the East Coast (as did the proprietor) and I have easily eaten 500 reuben sandwiches in my life (because they are pretty much the very best). This pastrami is absurd. It is thin. It is tender. It is flavorful. It is meaty but not stringy or fatty. It is moist. It is a love letter. It is a sweet whisper. It is goodness through and through. Made into a reuben, this pastrami is divine. I believe the proprietor makes his own thousand island dressing and it is just right. The bread has been pressed and grilled, and is neither tough nor soggy. You taste and feel the cheese, but it does not overwhelm. In short, I am in heaven. The proprietor of Modigliani Café grew up in a family that worked with meat, and he won an award when he was quite young for curing bacon (you can see the certificate on the wall in the shop). So my suspicion is that this pastrami is his creation. And I bet that bacon was the best ever. Pay Modigliani Café a visit. Everything I've ever ordered was delicious. Bring cash because they don't take cards.

But once you've circled around multiple times (unless you get lucky), your stress levels will subside looking at cute cartoons of the owner's sheepdog Gurumi. She even showed me real life photos of him and his hair tied back because it was so long it covered his eyes. This dog also reminded me of Max from the Little Mermaid. Anyway, what a cute logo for the coffee shop! Sunlit windows are my favorite spots in any cafe, so I found a bench by the window inside and waited patiently for my hojicha latte with oat milk ($8). I wanted to try the savory pastries but they had run out. I chilled for maybe 30min enjoying my hojicha. I liked their hojicha but tbh there hasn't been a hojicha I didn't like. I think roasted teas have just the right amount of savoriness. FUN FACT: I learned recently that hojicha lattes have more caffeine than loose leaf teas because lattes use crushed whole leaf powder, so you're consuming the whole leaf rather than steeped tea leaves. If only I worked nearby, I would be a frequent customer. But because it's a ways away from me, I'll stop by on occasion.

Their drink presentation was really pretty! The vanilla cream iced latte was really good, it had the perfect amount of bitter and I liked the roast that they used!

Food is good and everything was seasoned well and not over cooked. I want to give this place a try again but they need to work on their customer service. They catered more to other tables and we didn't even get offered the dessert menu like the other tables around us. Also, we had to ask for the check and no one even came to check if we were ready to pay we had to go up there.

The BEST BBQ Pork Buns and Custard Egg Tarts!…read more I was at Ruby King Bakery at 2pm on Monday, and was able to buy some plump BBQ Pork Buns and the best Egg Tarts! Customer service was great! Big time suggestive selling! The young lady behind the counter said someone did a survey, and their egg tarts are the BEST in Oakland Chinatown. You have to come try them yourself!

While this visit was in between the lunch and dinner rush, unfortunately I think they are understaffed because at the time we sat down there was only 1 person who was busing tables and taking orders. As a result, it took a while for them to be able to stop by our table and provide water, take our order, etc. There was quite a long wait between sitting down to ordering to actually receiving our food. By the time we had actually received our food, almost an hour had passed. While we were waiting, a few other servers eventually joined, but service was still pretty bare for us and we never received refills on water or plates to eat off of when we received our food. I understand that staffing and a backup in the kitchen are out of the staff's control, but it would've definitely helped for us to know in advance how long to expect to wait to align our expectations and arrange our plans for the day. Would advise giving customers a quick heads up/warning because that on its own would've made a big difference. As for the actual food, we ordered the mac trio with elote mac, chicken pot pie mac, and kogi short rib mac (for an extra fee). The elote mac was the best and most flavorful, the short rib mac was okay but not amazing or worth the extra money, and the chicken pot pie mac was very bland/flavorless and didn't have much chicken in it. The food didn't feel like it warranted the wait time and because of that I would not return.

The baristas and workers have a great system in place to keep moving orders along. There is plenty of seating inside, but it does get pretty cramped with the large crowd rush. I decided to try the mazapan peanut frappe as I love mazapan and was intrigued by how it would taste in a drink. I was pleasantly surprised by how creamy and sweet it was! The peanut gives a slight salty and nutty flavor profile to the drink. I really enjoyed it! Overall, I would love to come back and try more of their drinks!
