I live in this neighborhood so I can get to Full Belly Bakery within a 15 minute walk. There are a bunch of different bakery options in the area, this place is added to the mix. They're in a location that used to be a Subway. I've only have their cookies, I'm a sucker for good cookies. I particularly recommend their Peanut Butter Miso (a flavor I don't think you can get at a lot of places, sweet savory), and Ginger Molasses. I've also been supporting them because they're part of the Rewards Network Dining. I subscribe to the program to get Alaska/Atmos points on qualified dining, and I'm trying to get as many points as I can, so dining with restaurants as part of that program is helpful. You can order full cakes as well as they have slices avaialble for purchase. I got a tiramisu slice for my mom, which she said she liked. Good addiiton to the neighorhood. read more

I'm a total cake lover, so I was excited to try Full Belly bakery. I was surprised to see that it was not a full service bakery, and there was no inside seating. Their primary focus appears to be on their special order cakes-which look amazing. The woman at the counter was friendly and helpful. After asking a few questions, I decided on the Passion Coco cake($5) and the Brown Sugar Pecan scone ($3.50). I enjoyed the Passion Coco cake slice. The coconut, passion fruit, and strawberry flavors worked well together, although the passion fruit flavor was very subtle. The sponge was cake moist, and the butter cream was spot on with its melt-in-your-mouth creamy texture. The Brown Sugar Pecan scone was good, but it had more of a dense muffin texture than a traditional scone, and the flavors were a bit muted. They did not skimp on the pecans though, which was nice. I would have enjoyed bolder flavors and a more traditional scone texture. Overall, I found that the walk in options are limited, but a great spot for locals to stop in and pick up tasty baked goods-and I would definitely order one of their beautiful and delicious looking cakes for a special occasion. read more

Got two chocolate chip cookies. Unfortunately they weren't really chocolate-y. They had only a few chips in each cookie which was disappointing. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'm someone who really likes an indulgent chocolate chip cookie so this just isn't for me. Would definitely go back to try their cakes though! read more

My family surprised me with cupcakes from this bakery for my shower, and I am still thinking about how amazing they were. Every single flavor was incredible, but the key lime pie with the graham cracker completely stole the show -- it was unlike any cupcake I've ever had. The filling was so flavorful and perfectly balanced and so FRESH! And the strawberry guava was amazing as well, flavorful, and very unique! Not only did they taste phenomenal, but the presentation was absolutely beautiful. You could tell so much care and attention to detail went into everything. All of the guests were raving about them the entire time and kept asking where they were from. I will 100% be using this business for every party moving forward. I hate to give this place a one star but as a guava lover, I feel obligated to share this review for my fellow guava lovers. I ordered the 6" strawberry guava cake for a birthday for $54 and based on the reviews, I expected something special. Unfortunately, it fell short. The guava and strawberry flavors were barely present in the cake. It tasted like an average cake and definitely NOT worth the price. Perhaps their other cakes are better, but the strawberry guava cake missed the mark and does not deserve any more than one star. read more

Overdue review but needed! We had Eva do our wedding cake and a year later we had the frozen piece we saved and it was still as good as ever! We got the strawberry guava for one layer and lemon almond for the other. The buttercream was amazing and flavors perfect. I still am told by friends that it was the best cake they had. Cute little local bakery. Love the butter cream cake here. They always have a lot of flavor to choose from. Other than the cake i don't love other things and they really don't have much to choose from. I ordered a petite size cake for my anniversary. It just comes plain when you order. They can't do frosting or anything else beside writting letters on top unless you special order on the website or something. I got some flowers to put on top so it looks less plain. I like the cake here but i found there is less buttercream when you get a whole cake vs when you get the cake cup and that's my favorite part, and what make this bakery stands out from other. That focaccia is so good. I can't even get over it. I am an Italian descent and I know quite a bit about bread and focaccia and you have the golden touch. The dough is divine on its own and you have just the right amount of sea salt to really bring out the delicate flavors. I love that touch. I believe you must use a high-quality olive oil as well. At long last, I have found a craveable cinnamon roll! (Why are they so hard to find?) The cream cheese icing is well-balanced, tangy, and not too sweet. I will definitely return for one of these brioche cinnamon rolls in the near future. Note: they are currently only available on Saturday and Sunday. I also picked up a chocolate chip cookie for my daughter and a walnut chocolate chip cookie for my husband. They both gave the cookies rave reviews. I went today for the first time this Christmas Eve. I had the chocolate chip cookie and the ginger molasses. Soooooo good! The ginger cookie was very moist and chewy. It was sweet but not too sweet and the perfect amount of everything else. The chocolate chip cookie! Oh man.. that cookie was delicious! I devoured both cookies in under 5 minutes. New bakery in town! Located in the busy Montclair Village where the old Subway Sandwich establishment use to be. Parking is not easily found but a nice walk through the village is always great! The ambiance is trendy, small and casual. I walked in this weekend for the first time & was looking for a yummy cake to feed 14-16 people. Unfortunately they do not have pre-made cakes but I absolutely appreciated them offering to make one with a turn around of 2-3 hours. Any other establishment would have said "no we don't have any and we also can't do it" ...and would have just let the customer walk out the door to bring business elsewhere. So for this I admire their hustle. I was thrilled! I picked the 14-16 person guava, vanilla cake (tall) for $84.00 . I did not receive a call to let me know it was ready BUT they are very punctual and had my cake ready by the time we had a greed on/ the moment I picked it up. To my surprise the size of the cake is so small for 14-16 people although the cakes have tall size options, i was just amazed. I come from a family of cake lovers and was super bummed and worried this wouldn't be enough cake! So I had to run to Lucky's and just get a cheap 14 person Oreo cake to compensate from not having enough. I guess this cake is meant to be eaten in very very small pieces, they even include a card with their cakes on how to "maximize" your cake lol. You basically have to cut your cakes halfway point and give your guest the bottom part, while others get the top part with all of the writing and jelly on top. The taste was VERY sweet - someone went way too heavy on the sugar!!! The butter cream is too thick and it's obvious you're consuming butter. My family has a sweet tooth & everyone was amazed at how small the pieces were but mostly how sweet the cake was compared to the cheap Oreo cake... the Oreo cake was less sweet. I couldn't believe it. I really thought this was going to be an amazing cake and I wanted myself and family to be amazed but it just didn't happen with this one. Especially after the amazing customer service I experienced when I walked in. The price, the size, the sugar .. it just wasn't it. And I'm so bummed I won't purchase another cake from my local bakery. It was too expensive for such a mediocre experience. see attached picture for size reference. I didn't know what to expect from this bakery but I was so impressed with how delicious, light and fluffy the cakes were. It was like eating a sweet, pillowy cloud. The frosting is also super good and almost whipped. The owner and workers were so friendly and gave good instructions for taking care of the cakes. We stopped by when looking for some desserts to bring to a dinner party the day of. The staff was so friendly and walked us through what was available for purchase that day and answered all our questions about ordering a cake in advance next time we plan on stopping by. The chocolate chip cookies, apple crumble loaf, and the mini turtle tarts were all incredibly delicious. I'm not typically a pecan fan, but the Turtle tart was by far my favorite thing we ordered. My partner got me their signature Salted Caramel Chocolate cake for my birthday. It looks lovely and has all of my favorite cake flavors, so we thought for sure it would be perfect. Pros: Best buttercream I have had from any bakery in the Bay Area. Perfect density, texture, with just a hint of sweetness. I will definitely try other items because of this. The salted caramel sauce had a lovely balance of sweetness and salty. It leans a tad sweet so if used on other baked goods, I might want to use it sparingly, but for this cake, I almost wanted a bit more of it because of the upcoming con. Con: THE CAKE! How can this be your signature cake and the cake is not good?! We followed the directions of leaving it out of the fridge for several hours to get to room temp, so I don't think this is was user error. The cake was completely dry, bland, and had a disappointing texture. On top of all of that, if I had been blindfolded, I wouldn't have been able to tell it was a chocolate cake. I thought maybe the caramel sauce was covering the chocolate flavor as it's definitely more strongly flavored but no, it's simply lacking in any sort of meaningful chocolate. Given the sweetness of the sauce and the creaminess of the buttercream, I think leaning into a darker chocolate flavor with hints of the bitter notes would play really nicely. But that sponge was over baked, lacking in flavor, and didn't have a great mouthfeel. That's where more caramel sauce could have helped to moisten the cake. I don't know if they had an off day when they made this cake or if he picked up on from a case that had gone from frozen to defrosted, but if it's your signature cake, your sponge has to be on point. read more

Ordered the small round for a birthday and was extremely disappointed in the size. This is listed as feeding 6-10 people for $54. Taste/flavor was good. Cake was moist. It was strawberry/guava. Had more guava than strawberry flavor. Layers were neatly arranged. Another review said it was too sweet. That was not my experience. As another person mentioned, they include a diagram to "maximize" your slices. We followed the diagram exactly. While serving the cake, it was toppling over due to instability of the tiny squares. I think the fact that they can't properly fit the word 'birthday' neatly on the top should be an indication the cake is too small. 6 to10 is also a large range. That's the difference of an entire family of 4. I would say that MAYBE this cake could be stretched as feeding 6. But in reality of a family's expectation of a birthday cake, I'd say it comfortably accommodates 4 with a nice leftover treat for the next day. (Which is what one expects when it comes to a birthday cake). On another note: when I walked into the store, I was excited to see a baguette. Montclair is in desperate need of a bakery for fresh bread. We would be delighted to pop down for fresh bread for breakfast But of course the size for value is not there. This baguette was max 8-10 inches and billed for $5. $5 is the standard price for a baguette 2.5x that size from any other local bakery. I'm a huge advocate of shopping small and local. Overall, the value exchange for the ironically named "full belly" just isn't there compared to other similar local bakeries. read more

Full Belly, full heart, can't lose. We hired Eva to bake our wedding cake, and even though the wedding was months ago, our guests are STILL raving about the cake! People literally brought their second slices onto the dance floor because they couldn't get enough. We went into the cake tasting pretty sure we knew what we wanted (triple chocolate), but all of the flavors were so good, it actually was a tough call! I never met a carrot cake I liked until I met Eva's, and we even joked that we wished we were having a bigger wedding to need a second cake so we could have more of the Berry Gentilly. We did end up going with the triple chocolate, which was the perfect balance of rich, indulgent flavor without being too sweet! Throughout the whole process, Eva was a proactive and clear communicator, and she made sure everything went smoothly on the day of the wedding! We can't recommend her enough! read more

Rare occasion that I got to stop by while I was getting a smoothie at O smoothie next door, I got the French baguette and some vegan truffles. OMG!!! The Pecan Caramel Carrot Cake was delivered to my house for my birthday; and it is now my GO-TO spot for carrot cake. The cake itself was dense, not too sweet, and with the perfect blend of spices. The spices were not overwhelming. Eva was having a pop up in the San Francisco Nordstrom. I was so glad to be looking for boots this weekend, otherwise I would have never had the best cake of my life!!!! My daughter and I stopped by here on our way home from a hike nearby. We got a couple of almond truffles (no dairy, coconut milk base ) and a cinnamon brioche bun. The truffles were pure melty rich chocolate. Often with vegan items that are coconut milk based, the coconut flavor overwhelms the others. These truffles had a perfect hint of coconut, letting the chocolate take the stage. Normally my daughter scrapes icing off of cinnamon buns, just wanting a little bit. With this bun she tore pieces off and scooped up the extra icing that stuck to the container and asked if we could hike that trail again next time so we could stop by the bakery again. The bakers were wonderful and welcoming, even though we were kind of muddy from the trail and the rain. The only thing that would have made it even better is if we could have gotten a cup of hot cocoa and coffee while we were there. Can't recommend this place enough. If you have dairy allergies or not, everything looked excellent. read more

I tried this place out this past weekend. Bought some cake jars ($15) and lemon meringue tart. The tart was fine, that's it. The cake jars were just so underwhelming. The cake part was kinda dry, not sweet enough, little flavor. The frosting/crème was just fine. I LOVE cake and even I didn't want to finish my serving.
