    Pear frangipane

Pear frangipane absolutely delicious. I also wanted to get a cheese bread but there was a fly on top of the nearby quiche... the pastry container is kept open so not sure how clean the pastries are...

Amazing bakery. Lots of fruit tart. Lots of different styles. Go early else they will sell out.

Just note they don't post their holiday hours. We went there the day after Christmas and they were closed. No note on the door or anything, just a closed door and the cases were empty and a single person working in the store, probably doing some last minute clean up. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Another note, it's cold in here in the wintertime. To show they are open they leave the front door open. I get the reasoning, but it's cold in here and hard to enjoy one's self.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We came here to get out of the cold, get a warm drink to warm us up, and a pastry to fill our tummies. They have a great selection of baked goodies. The loaves looked really good and there were so many people getting the seed free French bread loaves. They have 2 choices, with or without seeds. The loaves of bread can be sliced for sandwiches or toast if you ask, I believe it's a free service. We got the scones as they last longer than the morning buns or other pastries. I waited too long to eat mine so my husband ate both of them. He enjoyed them and thought they were still fresh after a day. I got the triple ginger cookies, two of them so I wouldn't run out as fast. They are more like ginger snaps, they aren't soft cookies. They are very gingerly which I like. I found them delicious and I'd order them again. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a good amount of seating and most of it was taken up by patrons enjoying their coffees and baked goods. It was ok, since it was my only option I took it, but it was cold and not that comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our most purchased item there is the fruit torte. It's big and delicious covered in fresh fruit. It's great for parties and brining to friend's homes.

This economy is crazy and at this point having desserts for thanksgiving is a luxury and not a necessity After purchasing $100 worth of pies and having to ask for the obvious such as a bag to carry the pies out is super disheartening I even had to tear off my own receipt from the machine as I requested a print out of the receipt And of course not a THANK YOU or happy holidays This experience left me questioning if I will ever return here again I work very hard for my money and every cent counts Kindness matters Desserts are a 10/10 however today's customer service at 7:30 am WAS NOT

Stopped by before a drs appointment for a quick sweet treat. So many pastries to choose from. We ordered the mini eclair and the olive and onion cheese bread. The eclair was tender and just the right amount of whipped cream and chocolate. The cheese bread, however, was hard. I asked if it could be microwaved a little bit, unfortunately the cashier said they don't have ovens or any heat sources since all pastries are made at their other location. Service was quick and efficient overall. The prices are a little higher than most pastry shops. The parking is very hectic. All metered, street parking. For the price, it didn't really live up to the hype. Can't say I'd return, but would like to try their other location where the pastries are made.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean quaint bakery.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Friendly service. So many pastries to choose from. Got some croissants and of course their morning buns. Always fresh and fluffy. A nice little bakery to grab some goodies when in the area.

La Farine Bakery in Piedmont is such a gem. The apple pastry is the star for me, incredibly flaky, perfectly balanced, and absolutely delicious. The staff is very nice and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. I also loved that they offer pour-over coffee made fresh while you stand and wait, a small but thoughtful touch that feels special. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are seating options inside, and the pastry case is full of tempting, beautiful treats that make it hard to choose just one.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

First Timer I've heard about this bakery for a while and have been intentionally meaning to stop by but it has been out of direction and parking is terrible. We happened to find a loading zone spot and were in the area for sushi a couple blocks away so it became a convenient option. My bf gave their Mocha Java Organic drip a 5/5. He likes to drink it black and cannot start his day without some good coffee. Only $3.65 for a large too! Very reasonably priced! We tried their raspberry croissant and it was a 5/5. Very moist, soft, fluffy layers with texture from the nuts on top and fresh raspberry marmalade inside. It was around $4.99 though with it being the size of an iPhone 6. A bit pricy but in my opinion, worth it once in a while just to try 'em out. Some staff didn't seem too excited to be there this afternoon. The one who took my order and prepped the coffee was a bit more cheery but still it wasn't a spectacular customer service experience. As I came in, a lot of the customers didn't know exactly where to line up or stand in which direction so there was a bit of that confusion. Overall, I'm not a ginormous sweets person unless it's to die for. I wouldn't be seeking out this bakery again just as a drive by and convenience thing but that is personal preference. Y'all should definitely give it a try! I hear their morning buns are fresh and almost always sold out! This time they had a whole basket full!

French bakery with good variety of fresh pastries and cakes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This location has decent amount of indoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Good variety of freshly brewed coffee to enjoy with your pastry. Veggie options available. Flat entry with wide navigation makes it accessible. Service is quick and by order. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Good for kids, groups, couples and meetup.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

When on Piedmont Ave and in the market for a coffee and pastry, you want to be at La Farine. The croissants are good and airy at La Farine. The chocolate and frangipane will arrest your attention, but the plain croissant is really a favorite of mine. ( And I've never heard a fellow patron pronounce it "cwuh-sant;" which is a relief. If you're going to speak French, speak French, there's nothing wrong with that The orange and currant scone will delight. The egg tarts look okay, though I've never had one. The pour over coffee suffices to where you won't miss an espresso drink. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Decent people go to La Farine. You won't overhear any uncouth lines of conversation from adjacent tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Fruit tart
    Anny L.

Was searching for a last minute fruit tart for a holiday dinner and found this cute little bakery. So glad I did because the fruit tart was a hit! Not a fan of kiwi? No problem since there are so many combinations of fruit tart toppings making this place ideal for anyone who wants a delicious fruit tart. Parking may be difficult on the weekend but the service is quick and courteous. I'm adding this place to my list of best bay area bakeries. Can't wait to come back to try their savory options since they also have plenty of seating.

    Veronica L.

Truly friendly service here today with a smile. Got some fruit tartlets, morning buns, and the almond and raspberry croissant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The cafe is clean and full of natural light which is appealing and happy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Went to a recent 6 year old birthday party where they had the large fruit tartlets instead of cake, which was a huge hit and much healthier than cake! Nice idea by the parents!

I've been to La Farine Bakery's many locations in Oakland: College Ave, Fruitvale and the Piedmont Ave over the course of 20 years...their popular item has always been the morning bun but I prefer an almond croissant that's flaky, with a nice, sweet almond filling. The big draw for me is their fruit tarts and lemon cheesecake...the tart crust is buttery, cookie-like and keeps firm while holding a pastry cream and decorated artfully with fresh fruit...sooo good! Whenever I bring one to a gathering it's a big hit...I used to make them myself but appreciate the ease of picking one up. The lemon cheesecake is simplicity: creamy, yet firm atop graham cracker crust with a delicious lemon topping that isn't too tart or cloyingly sweet...and at a perfect price point! The Piedmont location is clean with their display cases full even up to lunch time. Service is basic and not the friendliest I've encountered but works. Metered street parking ($2 for 2 hours) and free residential on (some) of the side streets. A couple of tables but most take items to go...plenty of coffee shops along Piedmont Ave

The moment you walk into the shop, you'll notice the current flavor offerings displayed on colorful ice cream-shaped signs across the wall to the right. I could spend an eternity studying each flavor, but there's limited space to queue indoors so really gotta decide on a flavor and serving style fast in order to keep the line moving. Among the flavors were some classics, fruity/floral mixes, and dessert-inspired ones too, a whole range so there's something for everyone. I got the Breakfast Brownie and it was unforgettable! It tasted creamy and delightful without being overwhelming, while the cornflakes mixed inside added a satisfying crunch to each bite. I came back a second time before a show at Crybaby, a smaller venue across the street. Grabbing a scoop here to-go has naturally become part of my pre-concert routine at this point and I plan to come back again next time to explore more flavors. If you're ever heading to a show nearby, I'd definitely recommend stopping by beforehand for a lil energy boost and treat.

Also, whoever they have making their flavors is super creative! They list out all the flavors on the wall on super cute little ice cream scoop cut outs for you to browse while you wait in line. It is definitely more of a takeout ice cream spot with not a ton of seating so you either gotta get lucky with seating, wait for a spot, or take it to go. We got the pandan strawberry and the milk & cookies + cream. Next time I stop by I really want to try out their sundae!

I was surprised that no one spoke of business specifics in their reviews. There is a limit to how many can come in; and you are not allowed to touch anything when inside. There are also no prices listed anywhere. We thought this was odd. Our order: * Personal Peach Cobbler * Walnut Brownie * Banana Pudding For these 3 items, our total was over $25. The service was friendly but a bit awkward. You are only able to see cases of dessert options, it is more of a pick-up point, not so much a bakery location you can browse. I wouldn't suggest coming as a large group, there is no where to sit to enjoy your baked goods and parking is very difficult. While the cobbler and banana pudding were good, I wasn't a fan of the brownie. My partner enjoyed the cobbler a lot, but when we did the calculations, the prices were astronomical. I'm not sure what gourmet difference the items contained, but we likely would not come back to this bakery considering prices and parking. The location is cute, in theory, but with no actual location or displays, or price lists- what you pay for doesn't balance out. The lack of transparency for prices was very sus to us. I'm sure the business will continue on especially with how much they charged. I can't imagine the bakery location and building rent costing a lot as far as operating costs; as it is small, and not expansive at all. The price of the baked goods doesn't even go towards branded packaging. Which could be understandable. The only beverages available that I seen was Nesquik. Steep prices with no justification - especially when you have other bakeries in the area, in addition to Nation's for Pies, very affordable and classic as well. E&J's has a great banana pudding and cobbler as well for $6- they are also a Black-owned business and family operated. Absolutely no bad intent, just wanting to share transparency in my review so Yelpers know that prices are not listed, which means they are subject to fluctuation- in this economy that is not a fair way of doing business. One star per item we liked, for this review. As much signage is visible upon entry regarding rules and limited persons for entry at a time- not one area provided prices; only signs that tell you not to touch. It's required by law for prices at every establishment to be listed, according to SB 478 for general consumer goods and services in California.

Overall, it's been a good experience every time. Parking can be challenging depending on the time of day. Most of the parking is on the street, so you'll need to keep an eye out for pedestrians and bicyclists while looking for a spot. That's probably the biggest inconvenience of visiting this place. There is usually a 15 to 20-minute wait whenever we come for dessert, but we've always been seated within the quoted wait time, which we appreciate. The restaurant itself is fairly small, so the dining area can feel crowded. Tables are very close together, and you're practically sitting back-to-back with other guests. Because of this, the noise level can get pretty high, and it's easy to overhear conversations from nearby tables. The desserts are the highlight here. The BingSu is excellent, and the lava cake is one of our favorites. The menu is accessed through a QR code, making ordering simple and convenient. Food portions are decent, although prices are definitely on the premium side. Service is efficient, and the food and desserts usually arrive pretty quickly. We used to go to their city location regularly, but over the years we've found ourselves visiting this location more often because the area feels more comfortable and convenient for us. That has made this our go-to spot whenever we're craving dessert. Overall, this is a great place for dessert. The quality of the desserts keeps us coming back, but the difficult parking situation and cramped seating prevent it from being a full 5-star experience. Would definitely return for the BingSu and lava cake.

It was sweet and decadent for sure. Definitely perfect for sharing! I loved the blueberry ube cheesecake and so did Mom! I was looking for my leftovers and they disappeared from the fridge. Creamy and slightly fruity with that thick buttery crust-- amazing! Pistachio Ricotta cake was light and moist. Perfect when you want something delicately sweetened for tea time. Red Velvet cheesecake cup was just ok for me due to the cheesecake frosting. I think I would've preferred a whole slice of cake instead. This bakery kiosk is a part of Turkish-Mediterranean restaurant Moussaka. Interior has the cutest cafe tables and chairs. Love the grey with baby pink + mint green color scheme. Step inside and go directly to the dessert display to place an order. They're also on DoorDash. Can't wait to see what Chef Nile comes up with next!
