My son wanted a ice cream cake for his birthday this year.. we went in and saw all the options and it looks like they do it really good job at decorating, so he picked out a soccer ball ice cream cake out of their book. I asked them if they have enough time to make the cake and they said all they needed was 24hrs. Perfect! The next day we went to pick up the cake and my heart shattered into a million pieces. The poor girl who brought the cake out asked me if I liked the cake, and she was a young girl obviously in high school and I didn't want to ruin her day. Came in with my kids and the manager of the establishment was very rude. Very unfortunate as this is close to my home and a spot that is very convenient. Apparently if they hand you off the wrong ice cream and your five year old notices after you cannot give it back and exchange for another. You have to buy another ice cream and repay even as the manager throws away the one you just handed her. I went yesterday afternoon (7/5 @ about 1:40) with my mother, and I was shocked at the lack of awareness for cleanliness-- ice creams ended up going in the trash. Brief summary-- 1. Who works the register should NEVER work with the food unless hands are washed with soap or gloves are put on. PERIOD. 2. If you have started someones order (ex. holding a cone), you should NEVER answer a phone call, switch hands holding the cone and phone, or walk away to see something and come back and use the same cone. If you need to answer a call or do something, you throw that cone away and start from fresh. PERIOD. 3. If you work in food service, your mask should NEVER be below your nose or mouth or anywhere besides fastened at the bridge of your nose- ESPECIALLY when you will be leaned over and breathing directly on food. PERIOD. Details-- For starters, the girl at the register that had just been dealing with payment, took the lady that had just walked in order and without putting on gloves or washing her hands, grabbed the cone - and no not just on that attached paper- then, as shes leaned over (yes face over the ice cream) digging into the super hard flavor for probably 3 minutes to fill and stuff a quart, you can see her hand grazing the ice cream (again she had just been dealing with payment and a register that I can only hope is cleaned throughout the day). Next, the other worker that had been serving the first customer, takes his payment and then proceeds to ask my mother and I what we wanted and without changing her gloves or washing her gloves, grabs the cone - again the paper does not protect the cone, especially when youre wearing very oversized gloves. Before she could start filling the cone, the phone rings so she grabs it and for about 30 seconds is switching hands back and forth holding the cone and the phone while she walked back somewhere. She comes back, same cone, starts filling with chocolate fudge and much like the previous case, it was so hard that she was digging and scooping for a good 1-2 minutes while her face was completely over the front ice cream flavor. But shes wearing a mask, right?, so its not so bad?...yea, until she came up from the ice cream and her mask was below her nose. She was literally breathing directly over an ice cream essentially without a mask for about a minute. Then she asked what the next flavor was, I told her, she filled it, and when I got my cone, the cone (not the paper) was dirty from her gloves. Yes, I understand these kids are young and its probably a minumum wage job, BUT that at no point translates to incompetence or underqualification. You should be trained and held to very sanitary standards when you are in the food industry- ESPECIALLY when a global pandemic is going around. read more

Baskin-Robbins is always a favorite from when I was younger. I was lucky enough, that I worked in one (not this one) for a few years in high school. What a fun job that was! Anyway, I went in to pick up a Father's Day cake today. The store was clean, and there were 3 employees working. When I went in, there were only 2 other customers in the store, but once they left, the employees left me standing there for about 5 minutes before asking if I needed any help. Um, yeah, I need help, because your cake window is completely frosted over so I can't see what cakes you have, what flavors you have and how much they are! Their front cake case was completely empty...which is sort of to be expected on a holiday, but the rear one should not have been frosted over. Kind of made purchasing one a pain in the bootay. I ordered a ice cream cake for my sisters birthday. A young guy with glassy red eyes took my order. I said i want the Oreo cake (pointed at it) just like this. White with black drips and Oreo's on the top with writing. I repetitively asked you got it? Are you sure? Nope he didn't write it down correctly. Luckily I arrived early to pick up the cake. It was a all white cake with writing on it. No drips, no Oreo's. WTF I ordered the Oreo Cake. Thank God the cake decorator was there and fixed it as best as she could do. I moved back to Castro Valley recently and needed to get a birthday cake for my friend. I ordered online and went to pickup my cake on Sunday. Unfortunately with all of the Mother's Day madness and online ordering system, somehow my cake disappeared. I could have been really upset and frustrated but the store's owner, Rupy, didn't let that happen. Her store's staff called her immediately to see what could have happened. While I was waiting they offered to get me some ice cream; had I not just had some at home that would have been great! They also offered me several cakes that they had in the case but none were quite what I had ordered. After about 30 minutes and several freezer checks later, they unfortunately could not find my cake but offered an amazing solution to solve the issue. The owner herself called me and was so apologetic and promised to make it right. She came in early the next day and remade the cake and hand delivered it to my work 20 miles away, just in time for the surprise party we were having for my friend. It is so hard to find amazing customer service like this these days and I am so thankful to Rupy for offering to make it right and going above and beyond for her customers. read more

My wife and I arrived about five to ten minutes before the store closed but we knew which flavor we wanted on a cone. When we ordered the counter person told us our flavors were packed away already and that they were in a freezer that was less than -20 degrees and that they were too hard to scoop and serve. We found this kind of hard to believe but we tried considering another flavor and noticed that eight to ten flavors were already packed away. We were also turned off by the really wet floor that was really slippery with no warning sign. Evidently the other employee knew about the really wet floor because she was cleaning in her socks!
