I used to have a thing with donuts, i loved donuts a lot. But after an experience with this donut store, idk it kinda ruined my opinion on donuts. BESIDES THAT. Last time i went to this store. I got a single glazed donut and i payed using apple pay. The card reader was at the back of the wall. Around 5 feet away. The card reader wasn't in front of me so i had to give them my phone which i was uncomfortable with. I literally froze for a few seconds as she was reaching out for my phone. Thats not the main problem. A donut is very cheap. Instead of being a dollar. I was surcharged and the price i payed was 3 bucks. For a single small cold little glazed donut. Arrived at 7:45am and there was no line. The parking lot is small, but I was able to find a spot in front of the shop. The shop is small. I would expect to order and take your donuts elsewhere instead of enjoying them there. The cases contained a variety of donuts, danishes, and croissants. They offer many of the donut classics. I decided to order a dozen donut holes. I paid $3.50, which was pretty cheap in my opinion. I've seen $6+ for a dozen donut holes at other places in the bay. They tasted good. They weren't any special, but they fulfilled my craving. Service was okay. The person seemed annoyed at me when I asked if they took card, but I think that's because they thought that I was asking if they take Apple Pay. They told me that they do NOT take Apple Pay and I can confirm that they do take card! If you want to support a local business to fulfill your donut needs, Lee's Donuts is a decent option. read more

It's fine, but it's not a good or great donut shop. In a tiny 3-4 shop mini mall, a small selection of donuts. They have a few savory items, but not much...and no bagels. The ham and cheese croissants looked good. I got two donuts, each an old fashioned. The maple was better, but the plain tasted day old. I'll be looking elsewhere. read more

On my quest to try all the donut places in Castro Valley, I found myself at Lee's. Very generic signage outside of the building, I didn't even know it was Lee's until I stepped inside and saw some Lee's signage on the back wall. Not much donut selection when I popped in about 8:30 on a Tuesday morning. I decided on a chocolate bar. It was nice and fluffy, no oily aftertaste, which was good. Overall a decent donut but I was a little disappointed that it seemed a bit skinny for a chocolate bar. Personally I'd rather have Rudy's (and they seem to have a bigger selection of donuts) but not bad. read more

This place was alriiiiight. I've tried various donut places around this area and I would say this place is not in the top 5. I saw a few people come in and out of this place quickly on their way to work, which makes sense because this place is located on a very busy street. But if you have some options, I would choose another donut place down the street. The donut holes were $1.75 for a dozen and while they were good they were also slightly stale. Keep in mind I came here around 10am so there's no reason anything should taste stale at this point. I was very disappointed in the bagel and croissant selection, especially since the work croissant is promoted in the name of the shop. There was only one option of bagel to choose from, plain with plain cream cheese, and no croissant available only danishes That looked store bought. The bagel bags were sitting in the display by the donuts and were still in the bags that you buy at Safeway. They had no toaster to heat their bagels or croissant sandwiches, only a microwave which doesn't give it that crunch you crave from a bakery. I tried what I think was the crueller, which was good and tasted like a glazed donut but with a cake donut consistency and with a hint of cake batter vanilla flavor. Quite good but was slightly hard and once again, did not seem that fresh. Lastly, I tried the apple fritter which was quite good! Fresh, soft and spongy, and super flavorful! Yum! read more

If you live in the area, Lee's Donuts is a must visit! For years, my family and I have always stopped by everytime we are in the area. I love that everything is made fresh. A fresh original glazed donut will literally melt in your mouth. Some of my other favorites are the plain croissant, ham & cheese croissant, and cheese danish. The croissants here compared to many other shops I've tried, are hands down the best! You get so much for the price. Donuts taste like GASOLINE!!!! Ive gotten donuts from here a couple of times thinking "MAYBE its just their batch of the day" that taste like gasoline oil. I honestly don't know if they taste their product on a daily basis but the oil they fry their donuts in is either old or has been contaminated with some type of chemical. Don't go off some negative reviews that are on here . Some are either picky or their taste buds off a bit . Sometimes you just have to go and try yourself. Go give the iced coffee or frap a try !!!! This is my go to donut shop in the area! The convenience of the location is what makes me a regular. It is just off the Redwood Road exit on 580, there is always parking, and it's on my way to work. Regardless of what time I get there in the morning there is always a good variety of donuts to choose from. I must warn you that maple old fashions are amongst the first to go. One major upside is the donuts are always super fresh! Like people comment about it everywhere I take them. The owners are also really nice. This is a small business/family owned shop and the two owners are extremely kind and friendly. They make their donuts fresh daily and you can taste the freshness and quality of these donuts. I prefer the donuts here over popular chains such as Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts. The dough of their donuts are always fresh, soft, and delicious! Mixed reviews on customer service. Generally kind and courteous, there are days you go in and they almost feel or come across like they're angry or have a chip on their shoulder. Every several months I might pick up a Baker's Dozen of donuts. Love their donut holes. My favorite is their turkey and cheese croissants. Ask them to heat it up for you and they'll nuke it in the microwave for maybe 30 seconds. So good. Get yourself extra napkins as the butter from the croissant crust seeps through the paper bag sometimes. Something I don't like is their Apple Fritters don't have chunks of apples in them. I think they used to 10 years ago, but it's like they just wave an apple in front of it or use apple extract and call it an apple fritter. I love this little shop. The husband and wife are so friendly. I used to go here on Friday's on my way into work to get the office the happy pink box and those filled croissants (bomb-especially the ones filled with jalepeños). I went before I had kids and used to stop in when I was pregnant with my first and now I get to take my kids there. We always talk about kids at this toddler stage and how it goes by fast and I can tell they get a kick out of watching how excited my boys get to be in the donut shop, especially when they do their donut dance! I was excited to see chocolate crullers but disappointed there were no maple ones. I guess that's all for the good though because the woman who helped me this morning was rude and combative. Sheesh I only wanted half dozen donuts in a box, not shoved into a bag. But the biggest reason I won't be back is because the store ILLEGALLY charges a 50-cent surcharge to use my debit card. I started working very close to this place. At first very happy to start going here and pick up quick no hassle lunch. Although the donuts raised varieties are a bit dry and the jellys are too sour. If you were to leave your donuts in the bag for an hour the bag will get completely saturated with oil which means they are not being made properly. Wrong temps and a great indicator of old oil. Also the woman worker behaves rude and erratically very much like a bipolar . One day she is nice. Next day she snaps at you like your money does not matter. So lucky for me I found a donut shop right behind Trader Joes. And to my delight they are cleaner and nicer and the croissants are much fresher than I had at Lees. Win/win for me. Im much happier to spend my $400 a month on a different shop that appreciates our business. Will never go back to Lees and neither will my family or coworkers as we all agree we want to eat at a place that is happy to have us and puts more care and consideration into making the food. P.S. They do charge a .50 cent surcharge for using debit card and after calling my Visa Customer Service dept I was told this is not standard or legal. The reason I gave four stars instead of five is there pricier than other shops and the parking lot is very small making it hard to find parking at times. Stopping in to 7/11, I noticed a donuts shop next door . My regular donuts shop , Castro Valley Donuts , was closed so I decided to see and try this new find, Lee's Donuts . Since this donut shop is on my way to work, I stopped in here for almost a year. But, I just couldn't take it anymore. This place not only makes the worst donuts...they have the worst customer service, too. The donuts have the consistency of lead. They are heavy and full of grease. VERY disgusting. (Which means they aren't being fried in the right temperature of oil.) It's a small and dirty donut shop, too. However, the most unappetizing part of Lee's is the owner's wife. She treats people as if she is doing them a favor by serving them a donut! I've had friends and relatives who have gone there and agree that she is rude, rude, rude. I finally gave up on Lee's and now make a U-turn and head back the 1/2 block to Castro Valley Donuts on the other side of the street, past Trader Joe's.
