Donut Express - Croissant - Donuts Near Me - Castro Valley, California

I order one of the best breakfast sandwiches in the east bay from here!! The egg cheese breakfast sandwich is a favorite, always comes warm freshly made with the perfect of amount of egg to cheese ratio. Sometimes we get sesame bread and that has become a fave breakfast sandwich combo too. The service is fast, super friendly, like family!! parking available right out front on the Main Street but also in the back. for the donuts we love all the doughnuts we've tried, my fave is probably the donut holes, & the chocolate donut with chocolate frosting. We ordered a tray of donut holes for our wedding dessert table and they were delicious. such a cute location, easy to find too. whenever we are in a donut or breakfast sandwich mood we stop by here for a bite to eat. Checkout this local bay area sweet treat donut fave! read more

Nice people, good donuts, clean space! We've gotten the maple bars, the glazed donuts, the crumb donuts, the apple fritters, the sugar donuts, the cake donuts, the donut holes...just like all of it and they're all yummy! Ah, and the donut holes when they have just come out of the fryer. The best. read more

Classic donut spot that fed my craving. $25ish for a dozen with a couple "premium" options chosen. read more

Empty little shop with sparse selection of donuts but still pretty good. Paid about $24 for half a dozen donuts, a dozen donut holes, a sandwich, and a can of pineapple drink. Wasn't given an icon pink box for our donuts; they were all stuffed in a white paper bag. The lady was nice enough but not overly welcoming. Overall decent service, nothing out of the ordinary or noteworthy. read more

Service was fast and friendly. The donuts were fresh and good. I recommend this donut shop.

I'm not one do to reviews (let alone negative ones) but today was different. 2 stars for the donuts, -4 for the unnecessarily rude and hostile service. Horrible experience today. The guy was incredibly rude. My AUTISTIC 4yr old didn't know what he wanted so we ordered a couple other donuts, paid for it and sat down while my kid could finish deciding. My kid went back up a couple times to look at the selection (but staying out of the way and we told other customers to go ahead). A couple minutes later, there was only one other customer left and he told my husband that "he(my son) needs to get out of the way. I have other customers" then proceeded to say to my kid "this kid doesn't know what he wants and has been standing here for too long. I have other customers to help I can't keep waiting for him." WHAT???? He made a big deal about him not knowing what he wanted, even though we weren't blocking anyone and we told people to go ahead! It was completely unnecessary and unkind, especially toward a child. We got up and left without getting him a donut because of how uncomfortable and disrespected we felt. On top of that, they didn't even have the donuts my son was originally hoping for, which is why he was having a hard time in the first place!!! Having a special needs kid who struggles adapting to change is hard enough - a little empathy from the owner would have went a long way here. We won't be coming back, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who expects basic courtesy or patience especially if you're visiting with indecisive kids. It's a classic hole in the wall/mom and pop shop we were hoping to loyally support but would rather drive further to a different place. read more

Continuing my CV donut quest, I stopped in at Donut Express, finally trying this place after having driven by it for years. Parking is a bit of a challenge here as there are only a few spots in front so I parked in a lot behind the building and walked around. Inside it's definitely no frills- there are some places to sit but definitely nothing fancy. There was a decent selection of donuts still at about 8:30 on a Tuesday morning so I got a chocolate raised and a blueberry cake. The chocolate was good, nice and fluffy and no oily aftertaste. The blueberry cake was okay- a little soft/soggy in my opinion. I love a good cake donut that's soft inside and a little crunchy as you bite into it but this one was really like cake. Prices were fair, see my photo. read more

Going to keep the review at five stars because this place it what is says it is. Express. On the plus side, friendly staff and yummy donuts. What more do you want? Coffee, tea, and a few baked goods other than donuts, yep, they have that. The limitations of the place are in line with the express nature. No smoothies, no trendy filled muffins, and no hot breakfast sandwiches. Just donuts. Simple. Elegant. Express. So, if your expectations are in line, this place is great. You go in. You get donuts. You go out. The donuts, well, my coworkers tore through them before I could snag a pic. I did manage to eat one, raised with pink frosting. Sweet but light and airy, no aftertaste like with mass produced donuts. Mmm, donuts. read more

There are three types of donuts shops: polished chains, hipster shops with crazy flavor and unicorn frosting, and solid mom and pop shops. This is the third. Not as polished and showy but standard fair with no nonsense stoic store owners. They seem to run out pretty quick. Not sure it's bc they don't make a lot of bc they sell out quick but by 9am a lot was gone. read more

A long wait for poor service and small, mediocre donuts. Do yourself a favor and go to Rudy's Donuts instead

I came here to drop off a computer that i sold to the owner. He offered to give me a dozen donuts for driving a long ways. I got 4 raised chocolate, 4 raised glazed, two maple twists, maple bar and a fist full of donut holes to fill the box. All of them were really good. Light and fluffy inside with good frosting/glaze. Solid performance there. We ate 'em all. Good thing we exercise. The thing I would nite is that the selection is OK but not awesome. Granted, I was not there at 05:00 when they open. Maybe the selection is better than. It didn't look like they ever have an amazing assortment, however. More like "do a great job on a narrow selection of classics" seems to be the concept. If I'd paid cash, it would be a solid value. Good pricing overall. No frills shop - not a hangout. You can hang out, but it is pretty spare. More like, get your stuff and go. Not a huge customer chat heavy dialog with the counter person either. Nobody is hostile, just seems to be very functional. Overall, a great local resource for putting good donuts in the break room or conference table as we return to the office! read more

For the donut holes. Probably the most tastiest, fluffiest and perfectly sweet things I've ever had!

Came in on a Saturday morning for some donuts for a party later in the day. They had a huge selection of donuts and all seemed to be really fresh. Picked up a few dozen old fashioned, glazed, donut holes and maple bars along with some random others. Everybody at the party really enjoyed the donuts and asked where they were from. Service was great and prices were very fair. Will be coming back whenever I need a donut fix! read more

I was impressed with Donut Express's quality, wow. My favorite go-to donuts are sugar and chocolate old fashion and boy did both of them deliver. The yeasty sugar donut was amazing, it was pillowy soft and tasted very fresh. I noticed it had a slightly more brown color than other yeast donuts I've had which signals it was fried higher heat maybe? The middle was soft so not over fried so I'm not complaining. The chocolate glaze had actual chocolate flavor. You'll notice the chocolate glaze on some establishments skimp on the cocoa and it just taste like sugar. The old fashion crumbled perfected and I'm coming back to texture again, wow. I wanted a powder and they didn't have that so selection isn't huge but they know what they're doing with the ones they offer! read more

These are hands down the best donuts. They are perfect. Not too cakes, not too much glaze and never an after taste like some others in the area. Just perfect. We will wait for donuts rather than go somewhere else. read more

Donut Express - a little girl eating a donut - Donuts Near Me - Castro Valley, California

The standard donuts are very airy and light. They don't feel greasy at all. Shop ambiance isn't the greatest but the food is good and cheap!

Fresh donuts and good coffee- fabulous combination! Add in the friendly service and plenty of space to hang out and it's a winner!

My wife and I always eat healthy. That's why we went here yesterday. o_O I wanted us to have lunch here (we came in at around 12:30), but we really just had a light snack (not being able to order something is partly why I'm giving 3 stars instead of 4). The hours are kind of weak, even for a donut shop: Sun 7 a.m.-2 p.m.; Mon-Fri 5 a.m.-3 p.m.; Sat 7 a.m.-2 p.m. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/donut-express-castro-valley?select=iVH01rENraKJrJjlnd7aUQ: There's only street parking. We walked here while my wife's car was being looked at (a great auto shop is in the area). Donut Express is run by an Asian couple. The woman could be more friendly and a bit better at English (my wife and I couldn't really understand this one thing she said). The male owner was on his laptop part of the time. He was friendly enough. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/donut-express-castro-valley?select=-QwDFE9Rp_VG7i7QcGWCLg: There's a 70's vibe here. I like it in a way, but I kind of feel like this place is trapped in time. (It's not necessary, of course, but Donut Express isn't hip.) You have to pay by cash only, which is fine with me. Regular Donut: $1.15. Apple Turnover: $2.25. Bear Claw: $2.25. Danish: $2.25. Scone: $2.50. Muffin: $1.60. 1 Dozen Donut Holes: $1.95. 1 Dozen Regular: $11.90. 1/2 Dozen: $6.50. Ham & Cheese: $4.90. (Adding) Bacon: $1.50. Croissant: $2.25. (Adding a) Filling: $2. The prices here have gone up since 2016, but not substantially. There was a nice selection of donuts. Everything else was very limited. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/donut-express-castro-valley?select=5nhVM5yar0nDwFHdg2E0Gg: Our total was $11.10. It looks like we were charged $2.70 for each drink, which is ridiculous (I was irritated for a little while, partly because we weren't given a receipt). My wife didn't like her Lemon Tea, but she has to take that up with Snapple. In terms of Donut Express, the fridge is large, but it could be colder. The selection of drinks could also be a bit better. I couldn't order a Ham & Cheese (the woman basically said that they couldn't make anymore). It really turned me off. Some music was playing inside, but it was hard to hear (I give props when good songs are played). There should be a garbage can near the door. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/donut-express-castro-valley?select=P620xOt0JG9G_PYpmvq7Eg: Chocolate Donut: 8.25/10. I was surprised at how soft and delicious it was. Old-Fashioned Chocolate Donut: 8/10. My wife really liked it (a score of 8 from her is the equivalent of a 9 from me). https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/donut-express-castro-valley?select=u_Rz1ke3IEX7MTnfQWBoVA: Apple Fritter ($2.25): 8/10. My wife enjoyed hers. They're worth the price. For some reason, the woman thought that my wife wanted something on a bottom rack (the apple fritters were on a top rack). https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/donut-express-castro-valley?select=cFjrBEuVWyhsMqUkcoCVKg: Glazed Donut: 8.25/10. I was pretty impressed, and my donut wasn't too messy (some donuts leave your fingers so sticky that you could climb walls like Spider-Man). We were left alone at the end (the couple went to the back). It was a nice surprise. The owners came across as a little cheap and lazy to me (my wife was in agreement). I left here feeling kind of empty, and it had nothing to do with the donuts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDg5vosBp9A read more

Terrible customer service, the lady was busy chatting on the phone and rushed me through my order. Donuts are mediocre with lack of variety.

I've tried a few of the donut places around here, and was definitely a bit disappointed with this one. Here's why: 1. Egg and Cheese Croissant sandwich: The cheese wasn't tasty, it was American Cheese, not very good. The egg was overcooked, I think cooked, and then microwaved, based on watching them? I would give it 2 stars (vs 4-5 stars for Castro Valley Donuts, and 3-4 stars for Lee's Donuts). 2. The French curl donut was just ok, not as good as Castro Valley Donuts Down the street. I would give it 3 stars, vs 4-5 stars at Castro Valley Donuts (I haven't seen others carry this model of donut). 3. Coffee: Unfortunately their espresso machine was down. I was a bit disappointed, and di not order any drip coffee. 4. Other: Price was just ok, $8.50 for the donut and sandwich. The folks behind the counter weren't unfriendly, but also not super engaging. The place was reasonably clean, but décor lacked character. Overall, I would give 2-3 stars for this place. read more

This place has better quality donuts than Rudy's, but they're not nearly as friendly. Also, the costs of donuts are more expensive (two dozen donuts usually run about $35 or so), so the value isn't quite there either. However, I do frequent this shop because my child goes to daycare nearby and I'd pick up donuts for the school/ teachers. read more

My first time here: INCREDIBLE!!!! I realize they just opened, or maybe reopened, so the oil is really fresh, the dough is fluffy and the chocolate on top is really good quality. Horrible customer service. I got doughnuts there and they looked good. The lady put the doughnuts in the bag. My the time I got to my car the doughnuts were ruined. The frosting got all over the bag and my doughnuts it all their frosting onto the bag. Im totally impressed. Better than dunkin, better than Rudy's down the street, better than most other donuts ive had. Looking at Yelp! I noticed for such a small town Castro Valley has a lot of donut options especially when you include the bakeries nearby. This is a great old school donut shop, no thrills or frills. I would go here for a classic donut. I would not go here for coffee as based on what I saw I do not think it would be much better than 7-11 coffee (all love 7-11). I have tried the donuts at Safeway and these are much better, the other donut shop by TJ's I heard was sold a few years back and used to love that place. I need to try Rudy's now and report back. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. read more

Best donuts in town! I love mom and pop shops and this one is a mom and pop shop through and through. Affordable, hot, fresh, and all you really need from a donut spot. Probably the best place in the vicinity, but not one of those places you'd want to travel very far to visit. One time I went in to get do it's and the person behind the counter ghosted me, after I started my order she just kind of walked off to the back area and never came back. I stood there for a few minutes because I thought maybe she was checking on something or whatever and she'd be right back, but this was not the case. This was pretty weird so I had to go to another donut shop, but I would have rather gotten donuts from this place. The breakfast croissant sandwiches here are pretty good too read more

The office I work at has been getting donuts from this family for years and they still come here quite often. I haven't been, personally, but they always talk about how kind the owner is! I'm not huge on donuts because they're quite sweet, but the donuts here are so fluffy it's hard to resist. The original glaze is just the right amount of sweetness.
