Holidays they offered chocolate bombs Ordered from here twice, orders are always ready by your pickup time. It is hit or miss on flavors for me. I think most are overly sweet and I find myself trying to scrape off the extra sugar on the outside. Some previous star flavors: lemon curd, eggnog, halpia coconut. Found out about these wonderful malasadas from my sister who mentioned they were selling them for pre-order and pickup from Denica's Real Food Kitchen in Castro Valley and Dublin (Walnut Creek location is closed). Isabella, the owner offers 4 flavor option per week: Thursday - Sundays only with pickup starting at 10am right now...wonderful flavors like pumpkin, espresso, and guava...they also had ube which i know is all the rage but passed on that..not a fan and don't get it. Lol Filling were lightly sweet (which I prefer) and hints of each flavor...my fave was the espresso: custardy, creamy, coffee flavored with the next being the pumpkin. Guava has a very mild flavor and could've used a tad more flavor but it was good! All lightly dusted with granulated sugar *** 4 - 4.5 stars *** I would recommend picking up your order when they're ready as no fried item tastes as good as it sits and best when they're fresh...I picked up mine about 12:30 and 1/2 of the sugar was melted and exterior got a little greasy but still a yummy product! I definitely had to try: Kona coffee, Lilikoi, Haupia and Guava Cream flavors. Kona Coffee - lovely coffee flavor Lilikoi Cream - plenty of passion fruit flavor topped with some passion fruit seeds. Haupia Cream - Coconutty custard flavor just like fresh Haupia from HI Guava cream - yummy guava flavor like from the island. So hard to choose a favorite flavor. I'd been thinking about malasadas for weeks. When I saw a creme brûlée flavor on the weekly menu, there was no question about it: I was driving to Dublin. Order online or DM @bayhousecakery on IG if you want to mix and match. Isabella responded to my message within a couple hours and I paid in advance via Venmo. Each week features different flavors, so if you see one you like, don't hesitate. We ordered the creme brûlée, passionfruit, and cappuccino flavors. The dough was soft and thick, but didn't sit super heavy in our stomachs. The vanilla bean filling in the creme brûlée was a highlight. I just wish the sugar coating held up to that standard. Unfortunately, it tasted too burnt for me. But if I see vanilla bean on a future menu, I'm definitely jumping on it! I wish the malasadas were warm upon pickup, but not a major issue; they were still delicious. Highly recommend you do NOT eat this in your car unless it's directly over the box lol. Oh my. My sister in law just visited us from Castro Valley and she brought us a box of malasadas from Bay House Cakery. Yikes that was good. Devoured it before taking a photo but quickly got a pic of the remaining two. The one my husband and I split had some kind of creme inside, maybe banana? It was heavenly. Ordered ube and strawberry cream. The malasadas weren't overly sweet or greasy, which I like. The donut part was a little bit dense unlike traditional malasadas but delicious nonetheless. Ube was pretty good but strawberry cream lacked fruitiness and tasted like plain custard. Note that you have to order a minimum of three malasadas per flavor. Called to find out about placing an order for Malasadas and wow was I shock ! She said it cost $60 for a dozen plain malasadas !!! Insane .... I'm buying something made with flour eggs yeast and sugar and flavors and it's 60 bucks !!! My Vovo made malasadas it's NOT a big deal but if your lazy to make them like me well you buy them , BUT for what she charges ( oh I forgot she told me they were big when I replied to her 60 dollars ) well come on malasadas aren't over 3 inches round unless stuffed but I was getting plain . My husband loves a good brioche donut and Bay House Cakery recently popped up in my IG feed with all their delicious looking malasadas. I wanted to pick up some treats for him since he's had a busy work week. It was easy to order, but flavors sell out quickly. I chose the "Damn Good" 3 malasadas filled with fresh whipped cream. This was my first time trying malasadas and they were amazing! Ordering online was easy and I got the flavors I wanted (they do sell out though). I picked them up at the Livermore Denica's which wasn't crowded at all on a Friday around closing. I got the raspberry passion, Maui pineapple jam, Dreamsicle, and black sesame creme. They were all so beautiful and delicious I almost didn't want to share. The fillings are sweet but complement the doughnut texture so well. Looking forward to trying more flavors! read more

I love to support local bakeries especially either owned and run by POC or women. I ordered the dole whip malasadas! When I first saw these on the Denicas website I knew I had to get some. I love the dole whips from Disneyland and this was a must try. I was not disappointed! Fresh and the cream custard filling that hit like a dole whip yet not overwhelming! I ordered the half dozen assorted malasadas and picked them up at the Castro Valley Denica's. The box I got had: ube frosted, coffee/mocha, chocolate chip cherry, peach, cheesecake and I think the last one was pineapple. I tried the filling from all of the ones that were filled. None really knocked my socks off. The ube was too sweet and it was just frosted. The coffee was okay but basic. The chocolate cherry could had used more cherries and the chocolate chips were all clustered in one area. The peach jam was really good like a peach pie. The cheesecake was a bit bland. I did not know it was cheesecake to be honest. And I have no idea if the last one was pineapple or not? Because I know they have a passion fruit one but I did not taste any passion fruit. All the malasadas were covered in sugar. The dough itself was bland on its own. It was not awful but it's more a commitment to get these treats than what they're worth. Can only pre-order and pick up from a Denica's location. I picked up my order from the Castro Valley location and it was a nightmare to find parking so I just parked in the Togo's parking lot and walked. Then you have to shove your way through all the people completely oblivious to other people in the world. Then you have to stand in front of their door dash/online pick up area for one of their many waitresses to pass by and not acknowledge you. I highly recommend this bakery to partner with another business for pick up. It was an annoying experience that I do not want to experience again. On the expensive side for basically filled sugar donuts. The donuts got stale after a few hours. I rather just go to my local mom and pop donut shop. read more

The biggest negative is that malasadas are best eaten right away, and these had to sit out until I picked them up. With that said, they were absolutely delicious! My husband and I liked the Passionfruit malasadas the best as they were a perfect combination of sweet and sour. I have never tried malasadas before, but if you want a filled doughnut then this is the way to go. Started following BHC on IG because of Denicas. Couldn't resist the temptation anymore and finally ordered this week. She has different flavors and they change weekly. She also does other things like Pavlovas , but haven't tried that yet. Luckily, she decided to do a hump day special. The malasadas are made in small batches, so there are cut-off days/times. Hump day specials: Got the creamsicle and black sesame. Creamsicle: nice floral scent, liked the flavor, but would have liked a more citrusy flavor. Black sesame: was super excited to try this flavor and didn't know what to expect, although she described it as a peanut flavor. Definitely has a nutty flavor and I liked that it wasn't too sweet. Valentine's special: filled with chocolate chip. Loved that addition of chocolate chips inside and wasn't too sweet. All in all, these malsadas were very fresh and lasted me several days. I looked forward to having one each day with a cup of tea. Each one is generously filled and quality is really good. Easy to order online and I like that they have several Denica's locations to pick up at. Great communication from the business and she even texted me one time to make sure I pick up my order before they close. Give this place a try and I doubt you'll be disappointed. read more

We were looking forward to trying the malasadas and unfortunately we were disappointed. The bakery pick up is inside Denica's. The line was out the door and no one knew where to pick up an online order. I finally found my box and waited for someone to help me. $24 for 6 malasadas. The coconut needed more coconut flavor and cinnamon was good. The sad part was that they were hard and greasy when we went to eat them for dessert that night. 12:30 pickup (latest option) and by 7:30 they were not soft or edible. I gave 2 stars instead of one because ive had their cookies and they are yummy. read more

Got some pastries from them through Denicas a couple times. Ordered the special Disney flavors and they were terrible, underfilled, and the donut itself tasted greasy and old. Far from worth $4 each. Remembering the malasadas we had in Maui and upon recommendation of Denica's by our raised-in-Hawaii neighbor, we were looking forward to trying their Mexican chocolate cinnamon ones. Unfortunately, these were very sweet, dense, almost leaden, and had tasty, but very little filling. At $4 each, I was disappointed, to say the least. I've tried the malasadas from here on a few occasions and I wish I felt they lived up to the Denica's name. The malasadas with fruit filling seem like store bought jam was inserted into the malasada. The cream filled ones have soooo much cream in them that the malasadas were extremely dense instead of light. Meanwhile even though the creamier flavors are cream based... the cream flavor overpowers any flavor they pair with it. I went to Hawaii and had fresh lilikoi malasadas... a couple weeks after my return the Bay House Cakery offered this flavor. In my excitement I ordered some and was left sad and disappointed. I've tried the fruit based and different cream based malasadas on different occasion hoping that the next time I would be pleasantly surprised but I just haven't been. Each time, I've picked them up on time and they are dense and not moist. While the packaging is beautiful, All in all, stick with Denica's menu and you won't be disappointed. To say I am disappointed is an understatement, I was super excited to try Bay House Cakery and their malasadas after hearing about them from a friend and I guess my expectations were too high. We ordered the chocolate and the orange pineapple malasadas which were 4$ a piece and we ended up paying $24 for six of them which for the size in our opinion was pretty dang pricey. The chocolate one tasted fine it just wasn't anything special and the chocolate pudding inside of the pastry tasted like a cheap box pudding. We absolutely hated the orange pineapple flavor as the orange was extremely overpowering and the flavor just did not sit well with us. It reminded my husband of a cleaning product and left a horrible aftertaste in our mouths and we just ended up throwing the rest of that flavor away. This flavor made us really sick after we had it. The one positive was that whoever packaged it really did put it together nicely. read more
