I have a weakness for Eastern European cuisine, and I've been meaning to visit Paramount Piroshki in all my years of living in San Leandro. Came here on a Thursday morning. Parking was tricky, and I was trying to figure out how to park. Did not realize you couldn't order one thing or alacarte like a bakery. I rang a doorbell, and the "lobby" was a tiny cramped room that looks like it led to an industrial kitchen through a heavy door. You have to buy in bulk and they give you a giant box of frozen piroshki (12 pieces per box, all one flavor, can't mix and match, no variety box) that can be microwaved or put in the oven. That was awkward, and since I went through the trouble coming here, I decided to just buy a box of chicken rice and cheese. They say beef and cheese is their topmost popular choice, and chicken rice and cheese is also popular. For their box of frozen pierogis, you have to defrost and heat up in the microwave. Thaw at room temperature 1.5-2 hours, or put in fridge overnight. Got a sample of beef and cheese. She said it was kind of frozen so she went to get me another one. She was so nice! Paramount piroshki in San Francisco was a favorite for years. When I saw them on the menu at Roxie's Food Center, I purchased two or $6 each. I just ate one and found that there was a lot of gristle in the meat, and the dough was much thicker than I remember. i was told about this place being a company that relocated from SF and no in my town and i wanted to give them a shot. the food/menu interest me judging from their yelp. i went there with intentions to buy a bunch of single items to try (this is also a food processing plant 'Galant Food co.' so the have Benny's Bagel dogs and Clara's Kitchen items as well). it is a very small business front, you can easily miss the turn into the few parking spots they have and minimal signage. you have to right the bell outside to have someone let you in. Unfortunately, this new location doesn't have a storefront and you can only buy boxes of the items, i must have been looking at pictures of the old SF location where you can purchase these individually and hot. she apologized for the confusion and told us to hold on to see if there was something she could give us for the road. we waited a few minutes and she returned with 2 fresh out of the fryer new chicken pot pie piroshkis. they tasted great, that was very nice of them to do, speaks volumes. she also told us the many grocery store locations where they sold individual items and to my surprise even at Bara's Deli! read more

Unfortunately , I can't give a true review of quality of the food because I can't get a hold of a human being. I attempted to reach the company several times to ask a question about the options on doordash which aren't clear to me (e.g.,Are the mini piroshkis delivered frozen? Are they wrapped individually?). I'm sharing screenshots of what appears on doordash. The mini paroskies show a price of $50. However, during check out , the price jumps up to well over a hundred dollars. I'm so confused! After leaving several messages on the phone number listed on doordash, I never received a call back. I was in San Leandro this morning for something work related and decided to try this place out after reading some reviews on yelp. There are a few parking spaces in front. I was lucky to get a spot, but the number of spaces are few. There was a sign to ring the doorbell when you arrive. After doing that, a super friendly worker came outside and provided me a menu to look over. As a first timer, the woman helped to tell me about their most popular items. You order by the box (dozen). I got a box of beef and cheese piroshky and a box of polish bagel dogs. With the yelp discount of $3.00 off, my total came to $66.00. What a treat m! I've been trying to visit paramount for some time now. We called before to make sure that they were in before coming. The owner was very kind to my father and me and he gave us a beef and cheese piroshki and a bagel dog to try. Both were delicious and had a the freezer space I would have bought both. We left with a box of beef and cheese to share over Easter brunch. They were a hit. They recommend the microwave but I defrosted mine and reheated them in the air fryer and they came out very nice. This is a San Leandro treasure and definitely a place for those in the know. Can't wait to try more of their yummy treats. Only wish they could sell single units. read more

As a child of the 80s and early 90s, Igor's Piroshky, purchased by the Costco case, was my favorite after school snack, and I've searched for those plastic-wrapped paradises ever since. While Paramount's version is not the same ground beef and cheddar in a fried doughy oblong, it is good in its own right. So...um....this is actually a wholesaler. We stopped in whilst looking for a morning bakery shop close to our spot. We just wanted a quick bite and some extra goodies to take with us as a gratuitous thank you for our client. Anywho...turns out hey only sell in bulk. Oops. That said, the owner and his family could t have been more warm/accommodating. We were even given a few sample bagel dogs, just for stopping in. Wonderful and welcoming service from Len, the freshly cooked samples he gives out are amazing, however the nature of how this food is distributed might not reflect the same quality when purchased. I would love if I could buy fresh food here rather than frozen because the fresh variants are a hundred times better!! I could eat those all day. The reality here is that this isn't a bakery or a restaurant but rather a factory store. I had a really good experience here, I rang the doorbell and Len let me in, gave me a menu to keep, and provided me with 2 whole food items for me and my mom as samples while I looked over the menu. They were long variants of the mushroom piroshki. They were so good, that fried crunchy texture was so perfect and the inside was so warm and flavorful. I ordered what they were most known for; the beef and cheese piroshki. The immediate downside is that you can only buy them frozen. I've tried many ways of reheating them. Right out of the freezer is a no-no because it won't heat evenly, the middle will be cold. But even when defrosting them they're a bit underwhelming compared to that AMAZING fresh piroshki I got as a sample. The absolute closest you can get is probably by wrapping it in foil and throwing it into an air fryer. Since these foods are frozen, you're never gonna get that perfect fried crunch back. The flavor of the meat and cheese is good but the doughiness kinda takes over; it's just very bready. I can describe the crust as sort of a donuty / corndogish type taste. But like I said the quality is significantly lower from the fresh variant. read more

In a non assuming building tucked away in an industrial area in San Leandro, you will find Paramount Piroshki. There's a tiny little sign outside and if you blink while driving by, you will miss it. Parking is somewhat challenging because street parking is prohibited and their tiny parking lot only accepts 4 cars. I ate piroshki all the time when I was a student at SFSU but when I moved to Oakland, I could no longer find them until now. Paramount Piroshki operates their own plant and they aren't a restaurant so you order by the case and then take it home to heat and eat. What you do is press the buzzer and wait to be let in. Once inside, you place your order (1 dozen beef and cheese for me $30) and then wait. While you're waiting, they give you one to eat as a snack. What a bonus! They are crisp, warm, savory, beefy, and cheesy all at the same time. Plus, they're portable. My kids will love these things. Paramount Piroshki also DBAs as Gallant Food Company so in addition to their awesome piroshki, they also sell cases of calzones, bagel dogs, wraps, sandwiches, etc. Check out the picture of their menu. They were in San Francisco years ago and now are here in San Leandro. This is the original Company that made Piroshki's for the Bay Area and are the "Best". The best way is to order on Yelp so the order is ready when you get there, but if you don't it's not a problem. It just makes it easier since parking is limited, I guess if you had too the center lane is a two way turning lane that truckers use to unload there cargo since it's a commercial area. read more

Okay, I finalllly found a spot for pirozhki in California. It's not like the @piroshkypiroshky per say, but it is equally good in a "wow, what the heck am I eating?" sort of way. I searched so many places for someplace for salmon pirozhki and even settle for the beef ones... but no more settling folks! This place is hands down, one of the best pirozhki places on the West Coast! I ordered online via Yelp/grubhub, and to my surprise was greeted by what seemed to be, the owners/family of the business. You can tell this family has put hard work into their products. Also, they deliver across the Bay Area. They have a main menu they hand out if you decide to go here instead. Lovely people. Great food. They sampled out these beef pirozhki and was willing to give out more samples, but was way too full to do so. Lol. The story in and off itself was funny on how I stumbled upon this place. Basically, it was a van that I saw driving alongside me going up to San Rafael... coincidence?? Maybe. It was destined to be that I found this place. I ordered box of cheese and spinach pirozhki to go, warmed it up as directed at home, and to my surprise, the dough was still as light as ever. Think of it as a less-oily version of your fairground hotdog. Yep. I cannot say enough about this place. Love it, and you will not regret it. Had a Groupon deal that expired but still good....located on the street behind Bally's off Floresta....drive along Fremont, you make a slight turn to the left and its the cinder block building with about 4 spaces in front....and yes, it does look closed. I get up to the door and there's a sign to call the number during their business hours as the doorbell isn't working...called and someone answered and said she'd be right there...brought into a 6x6 office with not much except signage and i mentioned id like the beef and mushroom piroshki....the lady who answered the door went into a separate room and shut the door behind her as i waited.....comes out with a box of 12 frozen piroshkis packed in a plastic bag...easy enough....great deal... Unfortunately, no instructions but best to heat up in the oven vs microwave to get a crunchier outside vs a chewier one if you nuked it. I plan on heating the oven to 350...put in oven frozen and cook for about 45 minutes...we'll see how it turns out! read more

They do free samples; I definitely recommend deep-frying the circular ones, the other one's don't fry as well, but you can do it, if you're careful; piroshki is like a "....savoury donut." The service is remarkably friendly. It's a small family run company. Nice people. The food goes back a long way, based in Piroshkis, second is bagel dogs. Their son added more items later. I'm a picky eater and haven't tried much, but the bagel dogs are the best I've had (I had the Polish). I finally found this place!! I've been buying whatever stash of beef and cheese piroshkis I find at Lucky and the kids have also discovered a love for them too so they go fast in the household. Fortunately the place is close to where I see some of my patients so it is easy to make a stop afterward. I've been lucky to find parking both times I've been there, and you ring the doorbell where someone will answer the door for you to place your order - not just limited to beef and cheese piroshki! It's hard to stop at just that! Be mindful that you have to buy in boxes of 12 of one type and they are frozen. If you are local they will deliver. In addition to the beef and cheese I have also ordered their chicken, rice and cheese piroshki and chorizo breakfast sandwich, both very yummy! The spinach and feta calzones are good too if you like a lot of spinach, but they don't have directions ... they were done after about 2-1/2 min in the microwave. And oh, the beef and cheese are way better than the ones you get at Lucky - more filling! The yelp coupon is actually only good the first time but they've given me samples each time I've been there which is very nice of them. I thought of taking him to the bakery in Berkeley, but remembered that I had this place bookmarked for a long time & wanted to get it off my list. We called the number that was listed a few times, but no one answered so we decided to take a chance and drive out here any way. We showed up around 11 AM and saw there were a few cars parked out front so I went up to ring the doorbell a few times. After my third attempt, Josh, the owner's son, came to open the door. He asked me a few questions and told me that their best seller is the beef & cheese (which to me was just ok) so I told him I'll take a case of that. He also mentioned that the beef and mushroom (my nephew and I really liked this one) is the authentic way that it's made so I told him I'd take a case of that as well. He walked into the back room and came back with my two boxes and two individually packaged frozen bagel dogs, one beef dog and one polish dog, and told me to try them for free (my son enjoyed them both). That was very generous of him. Even though I had my nephew with me, Josh was very sweet and offered to take the boxes to my car for me, but I told him that my nephew can do it. It's saved me on those days that I don' have anything to really eat or want something kind of fast. I believe it's sold in select stores, so you could find it at a Lucky's for example. A meat filled treat will get you a lot more favors at work than your standard donut. So I was seeking out a place in my new hood for such meat filled pies. Yelp had wonderful things to say about Paramount, so I gave them a try. Their hours (7:30 am-3:00 pm) made it a little tricky, but I one afternoon I got their just in time. They are in an odd warehouse/industrial area, and you pretty much park out front and give them a ring. A very friendly and sweet woman came out to greet me and we talked options. They come frozen and you buy in bulk. I went with a box of beef and cheese and with the yelp coupon it was about $25 for 15. She also threw in 2 bagel dogs, and then came back with another bagel dog all hot and steamy, which I fed half to my dog on the way home and half to my bubba later at home. Both were very pleased with the bagel dogs as well. The box of piroshki were lightly frozen and thawed easily. Great for oven or microwave and are a nice treat for when you need something different and yummy.
