I am choosing to update my earlier review to 3 stars because the Pearl Day Spa apologized and reached out to my wife and coordinated with her for another day to come back for a better experience. It didn't completely right the insensitive experience she had the first time, but apology's in business do go a long way and they have at least earned some respect from me. The fact that they can accept feedback does speak to the companies overall character, and makes me think that the Pearl Day Spa can hopefully in the future provide a better first time experience to those with trauma. read more

I was very excited to have a facial at Pearl Day Spa based on reviews. Unfortunately, it will never happen based on their absolutely terrible customer service. I had an appointment booked but unfortunately woke up with the flu that day. I contacted them that morning to let them know. An employee texted me back giving me options - they could charge me for the service that day and I could enjoy a facial when feeling better or, I could have a friend take the schedules appointment. I chose to pay that day and be able to have a facial later - (I had a friend that could've taken the appointment as well). After I returned from Urgent Care, I saw two more messages - one that was charging me for the full appointment, the other saying that I was only charged 50% - their cancellation fee. I replied and asked if now the 50% would be applied to future appointment, that person didn't know and a manager would contact me. The next day the manager called me and although EVERYTHING WAS OFFERED IN WRITING FROM THEIR STAFF MEMBER, it was a mistake and what they offered was incorrect. I said I would've had my friend take the appointment rather than paying a cancellation fee. The manager said she would speak to the owner. They are not honoring what was offered - unorganized and terrible customer service. Stand behind your employees - mistakes and all - customer service will always win. There are so many other spas out there - zero reason to support this one. read more

I had visited once before for a spa day and it was a great experience. I just went again for my first waxing and Allie was amazing. She set me at ease right away. She talked me through everything as we went and the whole process was smooth (pun intended). Totally exceeded my expectations. Definitely plan to return! read more

I've had several massages at Pearl Day Spa and have had a different masseuse each time. When I explain my pain and that I'd like a deep tissue massage, I usually get a relaxing treatment, which is nice, but I really want someone to get in there and dig deep. Today I had Marissa. She asked me what I wanted and what my issues were, I got on the table and she went to town! Best massage I've ever had! My mouth was drooling and my whole body tingled from her vigorous and constant kneading. Marissa was there to do her job, not make friends and fakely kiss my ass to get me to come back. She was quiet as she did her job and was super professional. When we were done, she showed me some stretches and gave me advice on how to hold my posture as I walk and live each day. I made another appointmet with her for next week! read more

I was looking all over Yelp to find a place for a couples massage on Saturday. The pearl day spa answered me through email within an hour. They were super accommodating with everything and I was able to book a 1.5 hour couples massage. They were really patient with me and seriously are amazing. They dealt with a lot of questions and last minute requests. I got Keenan as my massage therapist and I floated out a new woman. I have been working long hours in front of the computer and my back was KILLING me. Literally, I couldn't get back up if I bent down to pick something up. He was very professional and asked me if the pressure was ok all throughout- it was the good type of pain. When he worked my back.... I felt every muscle relax. It was UNREAL. I walked out of that session.... on an unbelievable high... drunk...buzzed. It was mind blowing, so much so I could barely talk and kept repeating- AMAZING! It was like I woke up from a deep sleep. My first review of this place was a 5. I had a one hour massage with Jamal that was AMAZING but my experience has deteriorated ever since. I had a manicure there that turned out subpar but the girl was pleasant and easy to talk to. I just went to schedule my second massage and it's the biggest waste of time ever. They never answer their phone and seem to prefer scheduling by email. Trying to schedule a massage over email is like pulling teeth and they don't seem to read the emails either. I finally gave up and opted to go to a salon that was easier to deal with. read more

I had a spontaneous pedicure the other day. I was thrilled to get into The Pearl. It was relaxing and comfortable. I was the only one in the nail area and Teal, my nail technician was a lovely kind lady. She was extremely accommodating and I luxuriated in an hour long pedicure. I loved the lemon grass essence she put in the water and enjoyed the exfoliating experience on my feet and calves. My polish looks beautiful and even with all this rain, I like get joy from pretty toes. It's a lovely little spa on Pearl street. I would absolutely go again as recommend others to enjoy this experience. read more

Last year, a guy I was dating enlisted the help of one of my friends to surprise me with a day at the spa since he had to back out of an event that was very important to me. The services he purchased for me were facial, Brazilian wax, and massage. The facial was okay. I'd never had a facial (and haven't had one since), but it was really painful. I felt that the woman was just pinching my face the entire time. Ouch! Next came the Brazilian. Tied for the worst I have ever had. It was so painful that I almost asked her to stop. The woman used hard wax, but after talking to other waxers who use it, I've come to the conclusion that she wasn't properly trained in the hard wax technique. I was very hesitant to try hard wax again after having it at Pearl Day Spa, but luckily my current waxers are much more adept. The only redeeming quality of the spa day at Pearl Day Spa was the massage at the end. I had never had a professional massage. It felt great! My back had been sore from sleeping on a lumpy mattress, but the massage fixed it. It was also great that the massage therapist asked me about my back problems and assured me that she could give me a massage without injuring me. I had never had a professional massage before, or any other spa service for that matter, but on the advice of a friend I visited The Pearl Day Spa. At first I was a little uncomfortable, but the atmosphere and friendly staff soon had me relaxed and at ease. The entire experience was incredible. I have returned to the Pearl and tried many of their treatments since. The quality of the service has always been phenomenal, and I leave there feeling as though I've just had a mini vacation. I should also mention, during my last visit to the Pearl, I picked up a gift certificate for my wife. It was very well received. Horrible! Snooty, snotty, and pedicure lacking in quality. I just had a baby, so my husband wanted to surprise me with a gift certificate. When he gave it to me he told me how rude the woman at the front desk was. Later, when I arrived, I got the same icy reception - and with a very condescending, "Well, you're late, so we may not have time to fill out the paperwork first" (I was exactly 2 minutes late). I first got a wax, which was actually not bad, but then went to the pedicure room which is quite awkward - small and only room for 2. The 20-year old assigned to me rushed me and was very short in that annoyed, teenager kind of way. I asked if she could do the callous removal and how long I had made the appointment for, and she snapped, "I'll do as much as is healthy for your skin" with a fake, annoyed laugh. Extremely rude! At that moment, I almost got up and left, but I had been so looking forward to a spa day! The whole time the two girls just talked about themselves. My pedicure lasted a week. I felt I wasted our money and my time. I left feeling ripped off and angry. I've been to spas/salons all over the world, and this was the worst experience I have ever had. I called and left a message for the manager, and my call was never returned. DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! read more

The staff was unable to process my gift card before the visit even though I provided the number. The receptionist told me to find her after my treatment to pay even though I told her I had a gift certificate. The massage therapist burned me with hot stones that she kept saying were too hot before she finally used them and proved that they were indeed too hot. Her finger nails were too long and were scratching me and when I told her, she responded by saying she had already cut her nails down to nubs. She then told me she did Thai massage primarily and that she realizes that deep tissue massage requires shorter nails. She spent the rest of the time trying to convince me to either get Thai massage from her or go to her workshop about Thai massage. I then spent a long time with the receptionist who was unable to figure out my gift card which should have $40 left on it. It was the worst spa experience I have ever had and I have had more than a few to reference. They asked me for a review which I left for them only and they never responded. I then called to try to make a pedicure appointment with what remained on my gift card and mentioned what happened in hopes of rectifying the situation. I was then transferred to a manger who questioned my complaints because of not having said something to the receptionist immediately thereafter and for waiting too long to do anything about it. He finally resorted to verbally attacking me for calling out the terrible service I received. The only solution provided was a refund to the bearer of my gift card and the $40 I had remaining was returned to him. I was told there was no other option and that I could also not use the remaining $40 to purchase products as an alternative. The Pearl took a birthday gift that was given to me and gave it back to the person who gave it to me because of their inability to own what had happened and make a reasonable accommodation for their client after having had such a bad experience. read more

I came here yesterday with my mom for a special Mother's Day treat. She got a foot and leg massage, and I had a pedicure. My pedicurist, Sarah, was totally adorable and friendly, and she did a great job. Love my cherry red toes! My mother walked out after her massage with a smile on her face and said it was the best Mother's Day she's ever had, and raved about the serene atmosphere downstairs in the massage room, complete with fountain. The interior design is very cozy, and the tea they have is nice (we had the Darjeeling green tea) and my boyfriend was super stoked on the honey sticks haha. Samani, the receptionist, was super nice and helpful since it was our first time here which was great to help set the tone for a comfortable, relaxing space. A couple minutes after we'd checked in and finished filling out the first time forms, our massage therapists walked up and introduced themselves. I got to work with Sonia and she was awesome. Wanted to be sure which areas of my body I wanted to work on, and what about them specifically was the issue. Strong hands, great pressure but very conscious of what my body was saying--if I tensed up, she'd ease up and I didn't even have to ask! Which I was thankful for because I like to tune out on my massages so I'm not very vocal. But she did make it clear that there was open communication if I had wanted to request anything. The sequence she went through was super relaxing and definitely got all the kinks out. Afterwards she even pinpointed my problem areas and gave me some tips for me to follow up on at home. My boyfriend got to work with Sandy and I'm pretty sure he's on cloud 9. He does a lot of manual labor, working with power tools, camping so his body's gonna be loaded with pain. Sandy and him had a constant conversation where she was finding all those problem areas, working with him to work out the tension and knots and checking in whenever she felt resistance and made him feel comfortable enough to actually be able to ask for less or more pressure. She even found places on his knee and worked on them that he didn't even tell her about that he'd hurt playing rugby years ago! She was so helpful and afterwards gave him a walkthrough of steps to minimize the pain and stress he inflicts on his body from work. We definitely walked out relaxed and in a great mood :) read more

My wife got me an Ecstasy Facial massage as a gift. I went with a little trepidation, not knowing what to expect, but was wonderfully surprised. It was very relaxing and my face looked great afterwords! That hour and a half treatment felt like it went forever (in a good way) and I've been wanting to have another session ever since. I strained a muscle in my back lifting weights last week. It hurt to sit, stand, breathe and I was basically laying on the floor all night trying not to move. First thing the next morning, I called to see if they could squeeze me in to get a massage to help release the muscles. They fit me in in under an hour and my massage therapist Christina was fantastic. She focused on the muscles for an hour and relaxed the muscles enough that I could continue with my day. She also gave me some great pointers for stretching the area. Afterwards she gave me two hotpacks to sit with in the relaxing lounge and brought me hot tea. It helped SO much! Thank you SO much for fitting me in on short notice and always having awesome care. I love The Pearl! read more

I just had a massage at Pearl Day. I've had many massages in my day and it was great. I prefer to not talk during my massages because I tend to go somewhere else with my mind and simple 'how is the pressure?' takes me out of that and makes relaxing a stop and go thing. Other than that the massage was really nice. I was not a fan of the waiting area. Like I've said I've had many massages in many different spas and never have I had a waiting area so busy or loud. Not to mention they serve pretzels as a snack, which is not as nice as the normal chocolates but doubly not cool when all I can hear is people chewing around me. Difficult to relax. However I would go back. I would just bring ear plugs. read more

I've had massages here over the past few years, so I'm only qualified to talk about that service and the business atmosphere. That said... There's a reason I keep going back to "The Pearl." I've never had the masseuse twice, yet they've all done a great job - they listen to my requests, they don't talk incessantly, they follow a good technique. They meet me afterward to give me a drink of water and thank me for coming in. Once I came in with a bad cold and the female masseuse gave me some essential oils and modified her technique. In my eyes, they're there to do their job. Logistically... When I call to schedule an appointment, I get in within a couple of days. The receptionists are saccharine friendly, but friendly nonetheless. They ask whether I (a female) would mind a male masseuse. The facility has a relaxing vibe with soft colors, music and seating. It's located in an old cozy house. There are usually monthly specials on services. Again, I don't know about other services, but I've never left disappointed. read more

I was very surprised. My boyfriend decided to surprise me with a morning of pampering. I have never been here before. I was greeted at the front, and the young woman was so welcoming. I then had an hour and a half long massage by Brittney, followed by a mani-pedi by Tanja. All the women were very kind, professional, and great at their jobs! My massage was the perfect combo of relaxation, and deep- While my mani-pedi was relaxing and fun. I was also served wine, and lunch from the cafe next door which was absolutely delicious!
