I was a client of Sean's at his old location. This was my first visit to the Pearl Day Spa. I had wanted to try it out, after I learned that Sean bought it. The waiting room was relaxing. The receptionist offered me a rice heat wrap for my neck while I waited. There was also whole leaf tea, and honey sticks available while you wait. I had tea with me already, but I enjoyed a honey stick on my way out, local honey if I am not mistaken. I thought this was a great idea, since I have been trying local honey sticks instead of allergy medicine lately. My masseur was Josh. He took a few minutes before my time started to talk to me about what I needed to have worked on. During the treatment he offered the use of essential oils at no extra cost. He also used some heat treatments during the course of the treatment, and again they were no extra cost. I enjoyed my experience with Josh and felt like he did a good job of communicating with me. Even though he added in the extra few things, the treatment was still the full hour. Overall it truly did feel different than going to a normal massage place. It felt like a true spa experience, and was for sure worth the price. read more

I have very mixed feelings about the Pearl Day Spa. On the one hand, I absolutely love the vibe: the tea, the yummy trail mix, the chocolate after your treatment, the general feeling of that undeniably adorable place! On the other hand, the actual treatments I have received there (I have had multiple massages and a facial) have varied in quality, and I really don't appreciate their billing. For some reason, if you use insurance for massages there they charge you MORE than the price of the regular massage. I'm not sure if this is a regular practice, and even if it is, I think it's super shady. The massages are already on the more expensive end, making them even more expensive (so much so that I have to pay the difference because my *very good* insurance is even like um okay that is too much for a massage) is not okay! This place is already more expensive than a lot of places in town and the bougie, high-end vibe does not excuse this super bizarre practice. I'm sure they have their reasons, but I think its a shady way to do things and it puts a very bad taste in my mouth. I would come here for a special occasion day of pampering because I feel like their beauty services are probably nice and the vibe of everything helps that, but I am not coming back for any massages. Again, it can't be said enough how cute and comfortable their space is. I mean, I even bought my boyfriend a facial for Christmas because I wanted him to feel pampered and rated them as the #1 day spa in Eugene for the 2018 Register Guard "best of", but I'm also left with a very bad feeling regarding their billing/insurance practices and that makes me think twice about scheduling services here. I just wasted an hour and $90 because Gwen, the masseuse didn't know what a deep tissue massage was. Laying hands on my back and not moving them for minutes on end is not deep tissue, running your elbow up my back once on the left and once on the right does not make for an hour long deep tissue massage either. This is after I explained I pulled my lower back and wanted her to focus her time there. I even showed her the spot that was tight and said to her directly please concentrate on this spot right here. The receptionist was nice and offered me some of their bath salts which on second thought I should have took because soaking in a hot bath is going to be the only relief I will get for the knot in my lower back. read more

Disappointing: I had a gift certificate given to me but unable to use. Instead of wasting it, I wanted to re-gift it to a friend who really needs a little pampering. Because the gift certificate was purchased several months ago, it was in paper form and they have since upgraded to gift cards. They were unable to figure out how to make the exchange - something so simple and no effort by the office staff to contact the owner to resolve their antiquated internal system. Poor customer service. Although this is no reflection on their staff providing actual spa treatments, I cannot in good conscious support their business. read more

First time at Pearl Day Spa. I used the Mind-Body app to reserve the hour-long $60 pedicure, which was quite nice. I don't like that the spa doesn't have parking but managed to find street parking. The tiny foyer smelled nice with calming music. After checking in, I was escorted to a waiting room where I could have a nice cup of tea or water. It was a nice space as well. When I was escorted into the tiny little room in which pedicures are done, it was chaotic & noisy. There were 3 customer chairs, and 2 nail people vying for space to work. Teal tried her best to make it a good experience, but the window AC unit overshadowed the calming music making it next to impossible for us to have a conversation. Now, I appreciate that there was AC, but it was awfully loud. The other thing that made this experience unusual were the big round copper tubs in which customers place their feet. They're cool, but the nail people have to wash the tubs using tiny little sinks with temperamental faucets. While I'm trying to enjoy my pedicure, one nail technician washed her bowl, banging it against the sink (which she couldn't help given the way the area is set up). I cannot recommend Pearl Day Spa for a relaxing, comfortable pedicure experience, and I won't be returning. Didn't try the other services, which may be wonderful. read more

A flat out bad business and I tell you why. Who's the most important person you hire when running a spa? Not the therapists they are second. The front desk people! They need to be organized, friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. They are the customer's first impression. Guess what? The front desk people possess none of these. Tried to schedule a massage that my insurance would cover. Was told they couldn't schedule anything until they verified my insurance. I completed a form online and was told it would take about a day to verify and I would be called back. Two weeks later I had to call them to see if they had done anything. Scheduled my massage with Jana (she was great by the way) and upon checkout was verbally asked if I wanted to add a gratuity. I replied "can't I just write it on the receipt?" No, it's easier if I do it this way. This is just an awkward situation. I hate trying to decide how much to tip and is this enough. Let alone having to verbally announce how much I am going to leave as a gratuity. It's not as if I wasn't going to leave a tip, it's just bad business to go about it this way. I was willing to look past this and the insurance mishap and I scheduled another massage specifically with Jana. I had a conflict come up and had to reschedule for later in the day of my appointment (almost a week in advance). When I showed up I assumed my massage would still be with Jana. I had a different therapist and went to talk to the front desk about the misunderstanding. Jana was in-network for my insurance, so I wanted to make sure I only had to pay the 10% co-pay. The woman working the front desk was snotty and rude. She told me all the therapist were in-network. I said, "No they are not. There are only two here that are." Well, the others are in-network they just have a co-pay of 30%. Which technically means they're out of network because I can see anybody for a co-pay of 30%. I left and I'm never returning. There are so many great places to go in Eugene for a massage, I would highly recommend going elsewhere. One side note. This is in an old Victorian home, so you hear all the commotion going on around the house. And the floors make A LOT of noise. read more

Took my daughter to the pearl day spa today for a mother daughter today for a massage, facial, manicure and pedicure. We both thoroughly enjoyed the massage and facial but had a very uncomfortable two hours with the ladies doing our hands and feet. It was obvious that these ladies are not friends. I wasn't told when making my appointment that they do not use acetone polish remover so it took an hour for my lady an hour to file off the gel polish thus limiting my service. Not sure if I will be back. Spent a lot of money but did not come home satisfied. I spoke with the receptionist before leaving but she didn't think there was anything she could do about it. Amazing service from start to finish. My sisters birthday was on Sunday and I appreciate that they have appointments that day. When you first arrive you're greated at reception and then taken to a waiting area and offered water or tea. Then your massage therapist comes out and takes you to your beautiful room. From aromatherapy to hot towels and scented oils, the entire experience was amazing. My massage was done by Sande and she was fantastic and so nice and thoughtful and my sister did not stop raving about her massage from Barbara the entire day. LOVE the facials from Barb! I feel like I've spent a day at a spa after these, not just 75 minutes. She is amazing- very warm and a peaceful presence. She gives a hand and/or a foot massage while the mask is setting, and is happy to either explain the products and processes she is using, or let me rest and zone out while she pampers me. She does some sort of gentle upper shoulder/back/neck massage that makes me feel years younger and a foot taller! Extractions are never fun, but she does them very carefully and professionally, and they always seem to heal quickly. I came to Eugene to visit and go to an Oregon Ducks game ( they won!) and after walking up and down the stairs my legs were locked up. I called Pearl and received a same day appointment. They were very friendly and accommodating and got me in right away. This spa is in a converted old Victorian home, so quaint! The waiting room was so inviting with comfy couches, soothing music, and the smell of calming Essential oils. My massage was with Sandy who specializes in deep tissue massage. Wow! She was so amazing and intuitive in her massage. She was able to connect to the source of my muscle tension and worked it out. What I especially loved was that she communicated with me throughout the massage to ensure she was hitting the triggers while being mindful of the depth of her touch. I walked away from this massage feeling relieved. It should be noted that I'm pretty picky and I'm mostly interested in massage with purpose. I like to FEEL the effects of a massage. Rubbing lightly isn't my thing but I feel like if that's what you want, you'd get that here as well. The only reason why I'm giving this 4 stars vs 5 stars is because my appt was scheduled for 11am and they didn't come and get me until 11:18am. Once I shared my concern with the late pick up, she immediately apologized and said she was under the impression the massage was at 11:15. So just make sure you are clear when you check in with the front desk. I will definitely be coming back to Sandy upon my return to Eugene and strongly recommend it to any residents here. read more

I called to schedule an appointment, the lady said she would call me back to make sure the the day would work. She never called me back. I called back a couple days later. I asked for a couples spa day. They happily told me the day would work and I would enjoy the day with my husband. UNFORTUNATELY when we arrived they only scheduled the day for me, had no clue it was for a couple. They scrambled around for 30 min to get a room ready. Massage was good but didn't listen to me when she asked what I wanted worked on and just did her own thing. The facial was nice EXCEPT the lady talked the entire time so no it was not relaxing and she kept talking about how this place wasn't great and how she's opening her own place (NOTE: DON'T TALK BAD ABOUT THE PLACE YOU WORK IN). When going into the pedicure/manicure session we were then told one person would be doing both of us. I was not going to sit for additional time doing nothing. At this point I left and did not get my nails done. Husband stayed. I was so disappointed I will never in my life return. The amount of money you spend isnt worth it here. On top of all of it! (NOTE: DON'T SERVE FOOD TO SOMEONE WHILE GIVING THEM A PEDICURE) I think it is absolutely disgusting. I returned later to pick up my husband, asked to speak to a manager. The desk clerk said if you give me your number I will give it to my manager. It's been a month or more so I don't expect a call anytime soon. And was told he only comes in once a week. On another note: They never had us fill out a waiver and I mentioned that I had forgotten to from an email they sent us. But never filled one out. I went in for my second visit to Pearl , my first there was about 3-4 years ago.First one was disappointing, provider said they knew Lomi-Lomi technique but did not provide it as requested, room was also very uncomfortably cold. OK, whatever. Most recent massage was booked for Swedish for 90 min, provider was an older woman like someone's grandmother which is fine, but she spent the majority of the" massage" sitting next to me and either simply touching my arm for long periods of time and not moving at all for several minutes at stretch, or gently pushing one or two fingers into a spot and not move at all for several minutes at a stretch, which had zero benefit. For decades I've received excellent high- quality massages as a resident of Palm Springs, Seattle and Beaverton, and this 2nd Pearl session was the very first time I nearly got up off the table nude in the middle of the session, got dressed and walked out, and I nearly blurted out " Err...When is the massage going to resume ?" Or "Are you going to massage me , or what ?" I also informed her ahead of time of a mostly-healed rotator cuff surgery that was still tender, that was forgotten in time, she went straight for that big scar and started pushing, and I nearly came off the table in pain. Like a lot of people, I don't like to be confrontational, so I paid the Pearl's inflated asking price of $115 for a 90 min so-called Swedish massage, responded to the desk clerk's inquiry about my session with " I've had better", and left feeling not relaxed , buzzed or invigorated like my other massages have. HANDS DOWN best facial I have ever had. I'm from Southern California and have been to several different spas in San Diego and Los Angeles and no other place was as phenomenal as the Pearl Day Spa. Trust me when I say facials from this spa are as good as it gets. Both my mother and I walked out in complete 'awe'. The women here treated us not just as customers but as family. The facial was tip-top and fairly priced hence it included micro-dermabrasion, a slight chemical peel, as well as other soothing treatments. After our facials were completed we were treated to a relaxation room where we sat in hammocks and comfy chairs and were encouraged to treat ourselves to tea and lemon water.
