I came in for the "Rapture" Spa package experience. The receptionist was attentive and friendly and the experience began well. I had a facial first, with Tammy, and was left unimpressed and unhappy with her and with the experience of the facial. In my intake paper work I requested the practitioner of service ask me if I wanted conversation or silence (she never did). I walked into the room and told her point blank I was tired and wanted to quietly relax and enjoy my first facial ever. She talked my ear off for so long I literally stopped responding to her questions or inquiries, but this didn't dismay her at all and she kept talking and only being silent when she was washing tools or getting something out of a cupboard. The topics she chose to bring up were also in my opinion not professional or appropriate especially for the type of setting and environment that the Pearl Day Spa is trying to cultivate. The facial itself was relaxing at the start, but I was lathered with so many lotions, masks and chemicals and had them all removed so quickly there was little time to enjoy any part of what was being done to my face. I left with red blotches all over my face and my skin irritated and sore.
I next had a massage with Christina which was incredible. She listened to exactly what I needed and wanted and respected my desire for silence, it was one of the best massages I've ever received. And it was the saving grace of the whole spa package and left me feeling like my time there had been worth it just for that. Christiana is friendly, open, listens well, does exactly what you request of her to a T and made my body feel so cared for.
I finished my treatment with a mani/pedi and a light lunch. I was dismayed that they lunch was served during my pedicure in a room with other guests having their nails done. Eating in that quiet environment with nails being done was not relaxing and I didn't like the experience of having my feet scrubbed and having the woman's nails next to me filed while I was eating, it was gross and I would NEVER serve a meal when people are getting scrubbed and buffed and dead skin and nails were flying around in the air (the room was TINY for 6 people). My technician was decent at what she did, but I did NOT get the full mani/pedi treatment as laid out in the package. The two other women in the room with me were having the same mani/pedi treatment and were in there before I arrived, and they were in the middle of their second treatment when I was rushed out. I got the WORST foot and hand massage, she basically rubbed the lotion around and that was it, while the woman next to me was getting asked if the pressure was okay, if she wanted anywhere else on her foot massaged. I got a mani/pedi done in an hour and 20 mins when I paid for 1 hour for EACH. My technician wasn't very professional in the way she spoke to me, mentioning at one point something she did wasn't professional but "whatever gets the job done fast." I paid a hefty sum for this experience and was NOT happy to be rushed through it and end up coming out with a gel nail job that I could've paid $20 for at the beauty school. My pedicure looks great, so that is a saving grace.
Lastly, I was charged the full amount for the mani/pedi even though I was told by the booking receptionist that if I paid cash I would receive the April special of 20% off those services. I paid partial gift certificate/cash and didn't realize I didn't receive this discount until I had left and calculated it for myself. If it weren't for the massage I would not recommend this place to anyone.
I hope that this review is taken seriously and that the Pearl Day Spa really truly does want their clients to have the best experience. I was not happy with spending a large sum of money (over $225) and receiving subpar services for the majority of my visit. I don't mind paying for spa treatments and have done so in the past, but when I don't get quality for my money it leaves me frustrated and not willing to promote the business at all. read more
