3/18/2025: I sincerely hope to return back on here to give an updated review! Let's start with the easy positives: parking is NEVER an issue as you have an entire lot sharing that of Stop n Shop. Food is always served in a timely manner. It is served hot and flavorful. Now,onto the negatives: I know everyone has a not so great start of the workday/morning, but our server today named M*r** gave us the impression that she didn't want to be there. I cannot EVEN call it "businesslike or professional". She didn't offer any words back other than what was spoken to her. No "good morning" no smile, and never ONCE checked our table to even see a simple thing as a coffee refill. The busboy was the opposite accommodating one who gave the coffee and the take-out box that we needed. When we asked him, he gladly helped us. It didn't stop there! Now onto the male, who I've never seen before, cashier. Didn't say a word during the ring up. Matter of factly handed the receipt and the pen for my signature. Still saying nothing. Here I'm paying the establishment patronizing Pastels --- finally a delayed low tone "thank you" as I gave the receipt back. Ok, yes, you're doing your job. In a TIME where it is difficult to both find and retain a job, at least act like you want to be there. We felt almost regrettable for have chosen Pastels today. Future orders when we decide to have their food again will be via DoorDash etc to avoid same, for now Not a pleasant experience today. read more

This was the first time that I was there with a friend. We were shopping over there and decided to go in for an early lunch. When we entered, it looked like the owner. A man came out with two menus and put them down on the table. He didn't say hello, welcome not even a smile. The waitress came over. We placed her order and never saw her again. Food was OK nothing to write home about. Nobody checked on us and nobody really even care that we were there or not Very disappointed. Won't be returning :( read more

I heard of this place from a friend at work. Luckily we were able to get a table for three before it got very busy later that noon. My sisters and I decided on this place for breakfast. The place is particularly small with about 30 small tables and a square bar for solo people. Modern and plain motif filled with glass barriers and wood tables. I had short stack and classic Benedict. Got to also taste the sausage links, which was well noted. It was good juicy and thick. The Benedict was well cooked and done, it wasnt too much hollandaise sauce on mine but i think alot would have ruined it. Poached eggs were ok; personally im used to it being runny but i didn't mind. Pancakes were nice fluffy and brown ; perfectly texture to absorb syrup. Even i cant make it like this! My sisters had huevos rancheros and french toast as well. Food was great! Service was great! No major hiccups. Also serve lunch; dinner idk. After we left, the line went all outside with more parking in. read more

Where to go to eat? We can't agree on a place! Is there any place we can all agree on? Pastels. It's a great diner that has been here for years. It's clean, food is great, the selection is typically vast for a diner, and the service is spectacular! The seating is cozy and it is smaller than your usual diner. There is minimal signage outside, so, unless you're specifically looking for it, it's easy to miss. We've never had a bad meal here and the soups change regularly. This is a perfect diner if you're expecting a diner. Remember to tip well. read more

I'm writing this review while sitting in this restaurant. I've written a review for this restaurant before but my experience changed today for a simple comment that shouldn't have been said. Today, Saturday, November 7th, 2020 there was an older man that was being taken out by paramedics next door as the servers were watching the older server said "it was probably at the Indian restaurant. They probably poisoned him." I looked at my mother in shock and asked "Did she say that?" We were both shocked we almost left. The only reason why we didn't leave was because our food was almost done and we were hungry. This is the last time we are coming here. It always amazes me that this joint is always poppin. I forget it exists bc its smack in the middle of the Beach shopping center (which really should be BEECH since it was named after Beech trees and Harriet Beecher Stowe but ya know me, I just care about local history.) Decent diner, don't always have whats on the menu but the service is fast and efficient. Small seating so it's the not the best for groups over 4. Typical diner like eats and many local faces can be seen when eating here. read more

I eat here at least once a week, sitting at the counter, just like in the good ole days when diners reigned across America. The staff knows everyone and everyone knows the staff and each other, creating a very comfortable spot for breakfast. Food is AOK, with nothing out of the ordinary, but you can get a good omelette, crisp bacon (even turkey bacon), fresh veggies, and know it will be cooked and served how you like it - with a smile. I just want to start off by saying the ENTIRE staff there is amazing, they always treat me so well when I come in. I work at the hospital behind the diner, I stop in at least once a week and get breakfast and or lunch. The food is always warm, fresh, and brought out very quickly. The ladies who wait the tables are such sweet ladies, always have such good conversations with them. It's a pleasure spending my money at this establishment and I look forward to many more meals there. read more

Not gourmet, but great! Very good food, great people. No WOW factor, but reliable and great. Excellent breakfast and lunch spot. Went there a few times. Foods ok. But went there this past Saturday and asked for potato salad. They said they didn't carry it any more. I wonder what the potato salad did? I got the grilled cheese and French fries. All I can say...awful! My other half got an omelette. My French fries were so hard they were hard to chew and my grilled cheese was burnt. Great food eaten here many times and everything I get never disappoints. The lady is always nice and very friendly, the service is quick and efficient. The steak is nice and delicious with great value. The breakfast items are also very good anything that they order on the menu. Also, any soup that they offer each day is delicious. Great pancakes! Such a cute spot to come in and grab a bite. The staff are very friendly and kind. The paninis are also tasty with grilled chicken that was cooked really well. I found this about two years ago now, and try to make it my stop after dialysis. Can not say enough about Jo and Mary who basically keep the place rolling and doing a fantastic job. They see me and know my "usual" and the only question becomes milk or cream for my coffee. I always have a great conversation when I am there and enjoy not only my swiss cheese omelet but the friendly atmosphere. read more

Normally I don't leave reviews based on price/attitude of the management but this time I'm compelled to do it to make everyone aware. Please judge for yourself if a breakfast sandwich made out of a hard roll, 2 eggs, turkey bacon, uncooked spinach, mushrooms, avocado and feta is worth $11? Mind you that the person that took the order didn't mention the price and the manager was extremely defensive and unpleasant rather than apologetic when I called back to ask why they charged so much ("what can I tell you, that's the price, if you didn't eat it (??) you can return it"). I would not recommend this place to anyone based on service and pricing. The food is just barely ok. read more

It's about time for me to review this place . We've been coming here for Sunday brunch almost every week since we moved to Mohegan Lake area for almost 2 years. This is the only place ( plus Center Djner in peekskill of course) that you can count for delicious diner food in the area. We've been to a couple of diners in the 202 crompond and shrub oak area and we didn't go back. The pancakes here are soft and light . Their fried chicken tasted like the southern fried chicken I tasted in Virginia.their chicken from the sandwich are so moist! I'm glad this place is close! read more

Pastels has tumbled downhill over the last five or six years, which is extremely disappointing for this once-quaint nook. The carpet yields that musty, nasty odor that only a carpet can provide (and who uses carpet in an eatery anyway??). The service, while still somewhat friendly, has become poor and slow. One meal came out in a timely manner, but another took approximately twenty minutes, which is inexcusable, being that it was simply mac 'n' cheese. Speaking of which, the mac 'n' cheese as listed on the menu, is "made with fresh cream, Colby cheese and Vermont sharp cheddar" and "topped with toasted bread crumbs." Ha!! This was elbow macaroni dumped in a bowl and microwaved to perfection so the Velveeta could burn the roof of my mouth, and all lightly covered by a few hand-sprinkled untoasted bread crumbs. Pastels has the potential to return to being a "must go to" place, but ownership needs to be willing to update the décor and remain true to what the menu tells us. read more

As the environment and meaning of "dining out" has had the gavel thrown down, I must report that the FIRST place my husband and I will be dining out IN is Pastels Restaurant. The waitress staff, the food quality, the friendliness of the everyone from the man that clears your table, to whomever checks out your bill is insurmountable. My Mom was on Dialysis up at DaVita for over 4 years and one thing that she craved (and cheated with) was "Her Pastels Pancakes". Some days those pancakes were all she could get down. Everyone there (they know who they are) were literally keeping my Mom going in a small way. My Physician Assistant husband IS a "First Responder", "MY Hero". Working in an area within the S. Bronx which has been so hard hit with Covid-19 (as we all are here in Peekskill too)-Pastels staff and chefs have kept him going to work there for overnight shifts well fed with OUTSTANDING FOOD to-take with him after lunch as there is nothing open at 3am to get anything beyond food from a truck on the streets. All I can say to end is that if anyone misses out on a visit to Pastels, or if you just moved here and you want the comforts of a home cooked meal, made and served as if you are family, you must go to Pastels. Don't ever miss their soups-especially the Cream of Mushroom. read more

I ordered steak and eggs and I requested the steak to be "medium" and it came out "well done" and burnt on the edges. The eggs were fine and my potatoes descent at best but I will not be returning. read more

Had to review after reading the ladies comment about her $11 breakfast sandwich. Some how I doubt that was a regular menu item. If it was I would be surprised. I think when you custom order something with unusual items for this type establishment you have to expect a unique charge. You should probably at least inquire how much something costs prior to ordering. Each their own. This is not a fancy restaurant, it is a small family type diner now so hard to find. Good basic food at very reasonable prices. Having lived in area for decades we passed by it many times. It is a very unique storefront location for a diner. We have just started having a quick convenient meal there every week or two. Just a don't feel like cooking want something inexpensive and basic. Have found food to be served hot and to be quality ingredients well prepared. Again this is a diner not a steak house or foo foo restaurant. We are rapidly coming to love it for a quick bite close to home. This is also not a big roadside diner with 300 pre-frozen menu items. These are fresh good basic dishes in a clean place with good friendly staff. Very convenient parking and shopping being in a large shopping plaza like Beach. Great to grab a bite then do the grocery shopping. Saves you a few bucks going grocery shopping not being hungry :) read more

Everybody here is super nice. I come here once a week from the gym to get a big plate of pancakes and eggs and I'm always extremely satisfied. I would also take my girlfriend but she does say that the smell from the Indian restaurant next door does seem to bother her. read more

Breakfast was very good. We had an assortment of breakfast items and everything was fresh and tasty. I had the breakfast quesadilla which was good; I will be getting that again. Kids had pancakes and eggs and bacon which they liked. Coffee was good and they refilled quickly. In Beech shopping center so parking is easy. read more

This is the platonic ideal of a diner. My wife and I are regulars. Bottom line: this place has standard diner fare at low prices. The staff has always been friendly and prompt. More than any other business I've patronized it's a real cross section of Peekskill. I see retirees, young families, other young couples, and often a big family spanning three generations. This is the only not fancy restaurant that I've been to that has gluten free bread as an option which my wife appreciates. My wife and I have become regulars and we see a lot of the same people. It's because this is exactly the kind of place you come back to. We're millennials who spent the last decade in the city and are settling down in Peekskill. Everyone is telling us and these hip new restaurants opening up that they think we'll like. Many of them are nice, but we keep coming back to Pastels.
