    Hungarian Pizza
    David R.

Surprisingly excellent. I had little hope of much more beyond a quick meal after we left nearby orchids picking apples for the day. Ordered a Hungarian pizza and a burger to go. Enjoyed 2 martinis at the bar while waiting - a French martini and a pear martini. Drinks hit the spot perfectly. Food was really great. Definitely would return.

This place is a classic hidden gem. It's not much to look at, because it's still the same plane that's been serving up good food to the community since the 1920s. But It's classic Americana. Muddy gravel parking lot, low ceiling in the entry, and simple tables inside. Not much room at the bar, but it's the place to be, always crowded. The menu options are upscale for what looks like a dive, and the food is good. I had the ribs this time. They are spare ribs with a lemon-honey sauce. I enjoyed the ribs and steak fries. The corn muffin on the side was rather awful (burned and so dry it shattered into dust when I tried to butter it), but I had enough food without it.

WOW. I have not been this impressed with a restaurant in YEARS. Service was amazing. Our server had great recommendations. All the staff were very polite and friendly. The food came out very quick and was SO FRESH. Every menu item was perfectly presented on the plate and seasoned to perfection - not over done. My husband has been craving seafood pizza and they are so talented they said we can easily do this for you -that's customer service-. I could not stop talking about how amazing the food was for the entirety of my meal. I will definitely be back! Do not skip this place it will become your new go to spot!!

I have driven past this place for years..big mistake! After hearing great things about the spot, we decided to check it out. Wow! We loved it! Yes, it looks like a dive bar and is original from the 1920's..so cozy with so much character..The staff was very friendly and welcoming..We went with Pizza and a Clams Casino app. Absolutely delicious! The menu looked fantastic..I can't wait to come back and try their Burgers, Pasta dishes, BBQ, and other specials..the wine was fantastic. I am very happy to have finally tried this Tavern and to add it to my rotation of amazing Putnam and Westchester County eateries. If you find yourself in the area, I highly recommend you stop in...Enjoy!

Food quality / price (value) rating 9. The atmosphere is abandoned horse barn. Chosen as the "best dive bar" in Westchester County, this place has been around forever, and is a revered fixture in the Katonah / Somers area. I've been here a half dozen times, but this is the first time in 3 or 4 years. My wife grew up in this area, has been here a hundred times, and her claim to fame is that she was "almost" thrown out of here while she was in college, apparently a rare achievement at this place. The menu is tavern style food with some interesting specials on food and drinks. We shared the "Somers" white pizza with a side of Marinara sauce. It was fantastic! They have a limited, but well chosen draught beer list. This place is a throwback snapshot of 1940's highway roadside food and is a great experience for everyone. Reasonably priced.

Their Smokehouse burger is bigger than my hand!

That smokehouse burger is the size of my hand! And perfectly medium rare every time. There's bacon on that 1/2 pounder, and caramelized onion, and a touch of sweet BBQ sauce, and melted cheddar on a toasted brioche bun! And it is so juicy! I get two meals out of it! My companion got the fried soft shell crab. The crunch was amazing, and the crab was sweet. I'll admit I've never had it before because I was squeamish, but I tried it and it was really really tasty. They have a great chef, the wait staff is very attentive, and it's just a nice meal experience. Nothing fancy, just good food, cooked really well, served by happy staff with very large portions.

Came here for a celebration dinner with some friends and I have got to say that I absolutely loved the experience. I was surprised by the fact that we were able to get outdoor seating because a lot of the places we were looking at didn't have that option. When we came to the restaurant, we saw that it was beautifully decorated with Christmas lights and other stuff. We were the only ones seated in the outdoor area so it felt like we had a private space to ourselves. We didn't even really feel like we were outdoors either because they had these heating lamps that were really effective and helped us stay warm so we didn't need to keep our coats on the whole time. I ordered the Chardonnay which was delicious and had to order a second glass. I also ordered oysters on the half-shell which I shared with a friend who never had oysters before. They loved them of course. I also ordered the steak and it was cooked just the way I liked it and it was delicious. The french fries and the mushroom dish on the side were delicious as well. I am so happy with my dining experience and I really hope to get the opportunity to come here again. I was really impressed.

Had lunch there for the first time. Sat outside and ordered EDUARDO'S SALAD (for 2) to start. It was a chicken cutlet, eggplant, artichoke hearts, mozzarella, cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, olives, house dressing. It was very good and there was plenty. We both ordered the Muscoot colossal burger, one with cheese, both medium rare. My husbands was well done, and mine was medium. The burgers were very good, The french fries were great! Very crispy and delicious. The waiters are very nice, extremely polite, and were extremely busy running around. They did a great job. We enjoyed our meal, and will definitely be back to possibly try a pizza. Those looked good passing by.

Food comes out hot, portions are serious, and nobody leaves hungry or emotionally unsettled, which after a long week is a miracle. This is real comfort food. Our service throughout the meal was excellent with both our server and the manager (or owner?) checking in consistently. I really liked the decor and music as well. The decor is minimalistic, but I really liked how clean everything felt. I asked about the music -- it was 80s and 90s rock like Journey and Elton John and it matched our tastes perfectly for the particular moment in time we were there. They said they use pandora and the music varies from night to night, but we were fans. The food is where things weren't quite up to 5 stars, which is why the rating. We started with an autumn (squash) soup and wedge salad. The soup was good or maybe even a little better than good, but not great. For me, the salad was the same way. It comes with candied bacon and that just doesn't fit the profile of bleu cheese and iceberg. I ended up eating the salad without the bacon and then having the bacon at the end as an "opening dessert." The salad was super fresh and the dressing was well done. And the bacon alone was delicious--just not great together for my palate. We went with a couple handmade pasta dishes as our mains and they were both good. Again, not quite great. I liked mine better than my wife's. That is sis's new favorite was well named to my mind. It was spicy, but not overly so and the tomato and broccoli added depth to the dish that was missing from my wife's pasta. I would 100% come back. If we do, I think we'd split a pasta and a main. Some of the fish dishes we saw go by looked fantastic. The one negative to me was an occasional whiff of marijuana. I'm totally fine with someone taking a break to calm themselves if that's what they need. I just don't want to smell that while I'm eating, especially in a restaurant that is otherwise very very nice.

It's a nice space with the right kind of lighting, but the bar music was a bit too loud for easy conversation. The main courses left a lot to be desired. I don't think any of us (a party of +6) had a really good main course. The Thai vegetable curry was embarrasingly terrible. Stodgy, overwhelming garlic, slop on a plate. Chickpeas and unidentifiable bits of veg with tomato sauce and gloopy rice. So bad, and no thai flavor at all. At least make a decent thai red curry sauce. Or use coconut milk and lemongrass or something that isn't just garlic mush. The fish dish was literally just a piece of fish with a bit of sauce and a curlicue of something. Nothing to go with it. The chorizo shrimp burger tasted okay and had a lot of food on the plate, but my husband said it fell apart as he ate it. I think the Whitlock needs to do better than this. It's not a budget restaurant. I expect better food than what I can make at home.

Lake House Restaurant -- let me explain something to you…read more I came here for my anniversary with my wife, okay? Romantic intentions. The food was great. The drinks? Even better. Then they sit us by a fireplace... facing the lake. I said out loud, "Are you serious right now?" Because that's not a restaurant--that's a lifestyle flex. This place had me feeling like I was back in Manhattan, living the life I was supposed to live. Sophisticated. Refined. Dangerous levels of happiness. All for about an hour and a half... before I went home to change diapers and clean cat hairballs like a regular civilian. I mean every single day these damn cats throw up somewhere in this house! I hear they got jammed up over some tax nonsense and let me just say this clearly: taxation is theft. If we gotta throw some symbolic tea into the lake in solidarity, I'll bring the boxes. Leave this place alone. It's a diamond in this town. Lake House is elegant without being stiff, romantic without being weird, and just fancy enough to remind you who you used to be before bedtime routines ruined everything. Five stars. Three, they seem to have a lot more to offer, so I can't be too harsh on a one time visit. Again, got the breakfast burrito, with eggs, bacon, avocado, tomato, and pepper jack cheese. I was surprised at the lack of seasoning and how I couldn't really taste the cheese. I say this because I am a palm colored person and I think the proprietors may be Mexican, so I expected a little more pizazz (please call me in if this is being insensitive). Maybe they are just trying to accommodate the locals or be neutral. The folks working (possibly the owners?) are super nice. Lots of drink options (juices, water, sparkling water). Also sells coffee, tea. They also sell a lot of sauces, including hot sauces, pasta sauces, various condiments. The menu seems pretty broad: Brekkie: BEC, omelets, burritos, lox bagels, steak and egg wrap. Lunch/dinner: skirt steak sandwich, Italian chicken cutlet, grilled chicken, burgers. Salads and wraps to include caesar, greek, house, buffalo chicken, etc. They also have quesadillas, tacos, burritos, wings, nachos, empanadas. The shop is bright, open, clean. Definitely seems like a community spot. I am sure they are five stars. My particular visit was a one off. Or maybe it's a me thing. But if you're ever in this tiny little hamlet, stop off at Milton's and give them a try.
