Carriage House Restaurant -- God help me, I love this place. First of all, the menu. It's short. Not one of those 100-page encyclopedias where nothing's great and everything's a gamble. This is a tight, confident menu--and they absolutely nail every single damn thing on it. Want a burger? This is the place. Want shrimp Alfredo with a CAJUN twist because someone in the kitchen actually has a personality? YUP! Covered. Need a quick escape from the psychological pressure of raising toddlers--but don't want to sit in a depressing dive bar staring at the TV in silence? Boom. This is it. This place is always a solid when I want indulgence of good, tasty, savory eats that I know will be superb quality each time. I always go for the truffle chips and bang bang shrimp to start, the chips are SLAMMINNNN and trufflicious af! What a beautiful place..A Spacious yet cozy environment completely with expose rock, warm wood and a working fireplace in the main dinning room. We sat at the bar for lunch and everything was perfect!! Large "U" shaped bar, flat screens for game time, a long list of craft / specialty beers and cocktails and the food was absolutely Delicious!!! My wife had a beautiful burger and I went with a yummy Chicken Scarp over angel hair pasta..mmm! Oh, and the Fried pickle chips served with ranch dressing..some of the BEST ive had! All the staff are pleasant and professional..the owner Steve (of both locations) was actually our bartender and server and was fantastic!! I've been to many bars / restaurants where the owner is sitting at the bar, watching TV, and barking orders had their employees (sadly). Its great to see an owner who loves his restaurant and is hands on, who treats his staff with respect and love. Very cool space - fireplace was awesome. When you walk in, the smoke smells so inviting. Really lived the set up. Clean as a whistle! Sat quickly. Waited a few minutes for the server. Ordered, waited a few minutes. Seemed like everything was a little slower than it should be. Food was phenomenal! Fries were crispy and delicious. Sandwich was a true steak sandwich and cooked to my liking - medium rare was on point. My real complaint, which is a pet peave, is it took FOREVER for the check to come. Worst burger ever. I had the burger of the month which was a stout wagyu burger with caramelized stout onions. Had absolutely no taste. We had to wait about 45 minutes for half our table to get their dinner. And another fifteen minutes for the other half of our table to get their order. Wait staff seemed over worked. Love this restaurant! This is a popular, cozy spot in Mahopac! (There are other locations) During busy days the parking lot gets full, but people usually park in front of the establishment. The beer and drinks are great! The flights are a great way to try different beers to find your favorite. The appetizers are amazing. Especially the spinach dip, corn fritters and wings. . I HAVE TO give The Carriage House a rare 5 stars. regardless that this is a chain restaurant/tavern, it hosts like a privately owned one. The staff are very accommodating from continuing your tab from the bar to the tables to dine. The waitress, think name was Victoria??idk/sorry....., was attentive, non-pushy to make us leave after dining, and friendly. See photos below. The food speaks volumes. After trying one item from this place at a recent fundraiser, we knew we wanted to try it out. Glad we did. We were seated quickly. Friendly and attentive service. Portions are good. Food was exactly what we expected. Delicious!! My drink was strong, but I am not much of a drinker, soooo. It went down really smoothly. (My fault)..The French onion soup was really good. Spinach dip was delish. Everyone liked their food. Short ribs with mashed potatoes, cheeseburger with fries, cheese steak with fries and short rib grilled cheese with fries. It was a quiet dinner, since we were all enjoying everything. My husband liked his IPA. The whole family was happy with their meal choices. We will be back again for sure! Looks like the go to spot for some lunch or a drink if you find yourself in Mahopac NY. The interior has an old school cabin feel to it with a bar in front and a dining area in the back. We came for lunch and noticed a few different types of appetizers. They had the usual heavy hitters but also had some other stuff. We tried the corn fritters which came with basic honey mustard sauce. These were addicting! I compare them to tater tots but with corn instead. For lunch I had the caesar salad with salmon. Salad was borderline overdressed but still good. The salmon was cooked nice. It isn't big portion though so if you are not looking to over eat you will like it here. I can lose a few pounds myself! Anyway, it is a cool spot with straightforward service. They also have wifi which is a plus if you want to get some work done. Not sure it is a place I would come out of my way for but it did meet the 4 star requirements. Probably closer to 3.5 to be honest but I am feeling generous today. read more

The inside is big and spacious. Tables are big. The good is sometimes great and other times mediocre. I have patronized the Carriage House numerous times over the past several years but this was by far the worst experience I have ever had there. We ordered the French Onion Soup and it was so salty that we could not even eat it. Our waiter, who it turns out was also the owner, never even came over to see how the appetizers were. Unfortunately the soup went back untouched so it was a waste of money. We ordered a Burger medium rare and an Avocado Grilled Cheese sandwich on multigrain bread. Due to dietary restrictions neither of us can eat French Fries, so we asked for a side salad instead. The salads were brought over by our waiter and a while later a different server brought us the rest of the food. The burger was not cooked as ordered and the grilled cheese was on Texas Toast not multigrain bread. We tried to get a server's attention, but were unsuccessful, so we ate our food as delivered. Our waiter finally came over after we had finished what we were going to eat and when we asked for takeaway containers and the check he got a bit abrupt and told a busboy to bring the containers to us. When reviewing the check we saw an upcharge for the salads, so we questioned it and were told that there was a charge for the substitution. We were both annoyed because it was not reflected on the menu nor did he mention it when he took our order. My friend told him about the wrong bread and he told her she should have said something, and when she said he never came over he said she didn't have to get nasty about it. This place has a great menu! Yummy sandwiches, burgers, entrees & plenty of apps. We had the firecracker shrimp and the corn fritters. Both were amazing! Corn fritters were my fav. Also don't let the name of the shrimp scare you - they weren't THAT spicy. It was more about the Cajun flavors. I ordered a Marg and I did not like it. It was very obviously made with bottled marg mix and straight up sugar. Yuck. I think the bartender didn't know how to make one on the count of there being a chunk of orange at the bottom ??? For dinner I had the turkey apple sandwich which I liked a lot! Lots of great flavors. The turkey was just sliced deli turkey but it was good. I also tried their potato salad which was okay.
