Even though I'm rating this at 3 stars, I'd really like to go back here and give it another try. Went with a group and we all got different things -- but one thing we all agreed on is that the food is heavy and in some cases greasy. If that's your thing, then 4+ stars! Will also give a big thumbs up to the decor -- loved what was on the walls and the floors looked like they'd recently been redone. Various dishes our group had included a breakfast sandwich with sausage; an omelette, which was probably the healthiest option of what folks got; a cheeseburger; someone else got a French dip kind of sandwich. French fries were fought over -- so also a thumbs up for them. Again, I was the outlier in our group and in other reviews so I do plan to return to give it another chance. Definitely slacking in the past year or so. The burgers and smoked wings are always good however, stay FAR away from the beet burger. It had been awesome in the past however the last two times it was inedible....there were 9 in my party and 3 of us ordered it. Needless to say, we left the slop in our plate. ALSO, they do not have bottled water. The water tasted and smelled like fish. I have never been to a food establishment that does not have bottled water of any kind. Any brand would have been fine. The service was good but Im not going to say there were any happy faces or joyful people working there. The outside needs a little face-lift. Knowing my customers were eating on rusty tables would drive me nuts. The place looks sad. read more

Lots of issues here. I will start with the good: The waitress was very nice as was the additional help. Now everything else: We ordered the cheese croquets. This might be just the taste, but nobody at our table liked them. Also - and this seems to be the specialty of the house - they were not particularly warm. We also ordered the nachos with the brisket chili. The plate was huge and the nachos were pretty good. Unfortunately, the chili was largely a rumor. Now for dinner. Oh boy. First the staff, including our waitress, brought us food for another table. We didn't realize it right away, because the other table ordered a couple of items we did. Then we did get our food. We had a couple of the brisket grilled cheeses. These were tasty, but again, with precious little meat in them, and not hot. We had a smash burger order - COLD. Two mushroom truffle burgers - also cold and one was severely undercooked. We were going to a show so we suffered with it. The fries were a hit by the way. I ordered the salt caramel gelato. I've had similar many times. This was overly salty. I was very excited to go here, but unfortunately, quality flew the coop at Birdsall. read more

We found this little gem of a restaurant after a four hour hiking in the bear mountains. Let me tell you, we were starvinngggggggg. The reviews look great so we decided to give it a try. Upon arrival, I was first grasped by the arty theme, some unique carving and paintings on the wall, give you a Wild West feel. The chicken liver mousse was decent and the biscuits with Memphis style gravy was ok. The gravy tasted cheesy, which I was not expecting. I walked into Birdsall House on a Thursday night with my wife. This place looks so unassuming. The inside feels like a bar like atmosphere. The menu seemed interesting. The food was really terrific and worth every penny. The service was quick and very friendly. I would definitely comeback here again. The bartenders are really nice and they make really great drinks. Highly recommend Birdsall House for great craft beer, decent cocktails and delicious food! I recently tried the vegan seitan gyro and the vegan cauliflower wings. For house-made seitan made at a non-vegan establishment I was pretty impressed! It is a bit spongey but super flavorful and if you're vegan dining with non vegans I think you'd be satisfied. The cauliflower wings were delicious and even my non-vegan husband loved those. Next time I can't wait to try their jackfruit crabcake Po' boy! The cocktails were OK- not bad just maybe a bit bland. The wine on tap was delicious and you can't go wrong with a draft beer. The inside is a bit outdated but the patio is delightful. It is on a busy street so can get noisy. Overall I think if you're vegan Birdsall House is definitely worth a trip. Update* I also recently tried the vegan jackfruit po boy sandwich and it was also delicious! The perfect smash burger doesn't exi-- Yes It does, and it's here. I'm not typically a huge burger fan but this was so so good. Two patties, good amount of cheese ratio, and a yummy sauce inside. Good pub-type food with nice outdoor seating. 4 of us went for dinner around 7pm on a Sunday. The inside is pretty run-down looking but the outdoor area, where we sat, is nice and shaded. They have a good assortment of local beers on tap and in bottles/cans. Two of our party ordered burgers (Birdsall burger and Smash burger). Both said they are good, straight-up burgers, cooked just right. They really liked the fries. Another person got the reuben. Again, it was good and she said the fries were great. I tried the special pork belly sliders, three small sliders on nice, soft potato buns. They were excellent. I also got the beet salad. It was very large and had lots of goodies. We ate there on Sunday 3/8 at the recommendation of my son in law. When we first walked in I was surprised at how dark it was. It was so dark you could hardly read the menu. The food was really good. We shared a quesadilla and a grilled cheese brisket sandwich. I'd go back just to have that sandwich again. When I went into the ladies room I thought omg when was this last cleaned, I mean really cleaned, like with bleach. It was old and in disrepair. So much so that when I went to use the soap dispenser it literally fell off the wall. I was disgusted. I couldn't help but look around when I went back to my seat. I was seated at a table for 2 in the dining area across from the bar. Along side of the wall where we sat was a decorative wrought iron divider. It has probably never been cleaned or dusted. I took my cloth napkin and dragged it across the base of it and the napkin was full of dust. The booths across from us were also dirty. The floor was dirty. Even the bottle of windex on a table leading out to the beer garden was dirty. They need to hire a cleaning service to rip that place apart and do a deep clean. It was a filthy restaurant. read more

Came on a Sunday with a 12:30pm reservation for brunch. The wait time to sit and get our food was very decent and reasonable. There's a bunch of vegetarian options and some that can be made vegan. I had the beet and quinoa burger which came with a chive goat cheese spread on one bun and honey mustard on the burger, arugula in burger, and fries on the side. This burger was amazing and one of the best veggie burgers I've had in such a long time! The cries seemed hand cut and so fresh! Love that the ketchup and mustard are housemade!!! My friend and I visited Peekskill for the day and decided to have lunch here. It was a beautiful summer day so we opted to sit outdoors in the lovely backyard. There was a nice crowd already outdoors but it was still spacious and comfortable at our table. My friend ordered the sangria and I played it safe with a ginger ale. LOL. I did try some of my friend's sangria which looked better than it tasted which was just OK to me. The waiter was cool and attentive and we had no issues with service. My friend ordered the Birdsall Burger and fries and I had the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich with sriracha mayo with a mixed salad. I want to like Birdsall House more than I actually do, like Robert Pattinson's Batman. And as the movie does, Birdsall House takes a thing I like a whole lot and changes it for no apparent reason into something I enjoy less. For example, I love a good burger. BH has a specially seasoned brisket blend that intrigues at first bite, you kind of enjoy a few bites afterward, then quickly tire, wishing it just tasted like a regular burger. I think even their ketchup is some sort of "artisan" seasoned not-quite-ketchup. Half the menu is burgers, so, if you're sick of the meat blend...ah well... The buttermilk chicken sandwich is good and spicy, but there's something I struggle to put my finger on there, too. I think the gripe is similar- the sauces and seasonings take too much away from the meat and therefore become the focus. Same with the mac and cheese. You can tweak a good thing and it's still good, but there are limits. The nachos are great. Here, unlike the burger, I think the brisket in the chili is a welcome addition. But then again, chili is meant to be incredibly spice-heavy. Don't get the wrong impression, I eat here quite a bit and don't hate it. I appreciate unique flavor profiles and food creativity. But I don't need to be bludgeoned by it in every dish. If you're a proud parent and want to show me a picture of your kid, you don't have to tape it to your knuckles and punch me in the face, you know? To beat a tired analogy into the dust: Some people love Pattinson's weird take on Batman. I somewhat enjoy the movie, but have to be in the mood. read more

Probably would not have stopped in if we hadn't looked on Yelp for a place for lunch. From the outside, it looks like a dive bar. We went in and sat outside because it was such a beautiful day. The list of beer on tap is great. They have beers I have never seen before and I went with a smoked beer. It was sour and Smokey. Very different and delicious. For lunch I had the New Yorker which has porter glazed onions, white cheddar and pickled jalapeños. I added some applewood smoked bacon as well. The onions were sweet, the cheese mild and the jalapeños had a slight bite to them. A great burger. It came with fries, which were fantastic and home made ketchup and mustard. The ketchup was a little sweet for my taste but the mustard was fantastic. A grainy honey mustard. We asked if it was available to purchase and the server said no so we would have to come back to have more. My wife had the Beet and Grain Burger. The side salad she got was fantastic. The burger was mushy and didn't have very much of a taste. She covered it in the delicious mustard but wound up only eating a quarter of it. You win some you lose some.
