A search on the ol' Yelp app showed The Tavern at Croton Landing as a good choice of venue that would be less than 20 minutes away from the Blaze. The Tavern is nestled into the ground floor of (what looks like) a residential house. The ceiling is a tad lower than you might expect but that is part of the charm of the place. When you walk in there are several tables with tall chairs. The middle has some regular sized tables and chairs and then towards the back to the left is the bar. The rest rooms are on the right. The space was crowded when we arrived with a mixture of locals (who the staff seemed to know) and presumably other Blaze attendees. The Tavern space has definitely been there for a while, but the new wood on the ceiling and the overall condition of the bar shows that it has been renovated over the years with care. We were seated very quickly and our waitress was very good about answering our questions with a smile. I wound up ordering a personal sized pizza with mushrooms. What's interesting is that my dish was perhaps the most middle of the road. I think the sauce needed a bit more flavor. However, everyone else at the table got some awesome dishes. One person got a crab chowder which was savory and a bit spicy. Another person got the Lobster Mac n' Cheese and let me tell you, they do not skimp on the lobster! It seems if you get lobster dishes, they do not mess around! I had a great experience at The Tavern and if I go to the Blaze again next year I'll absolutely go again!

We can tell it's almost a curse to have multiple taste buds and be a super taster, which is what we technically are. All we can say to the owners is that your staff, and we've been through this before with even Michelin starred restaurants that when people stop coming to your restaurant, there's something terribly wrong. We're begging the owners to please do something! When we used to go there for lunch,, I had many a happy vegan burger. Yet this is no longer the case because your staff is completely demoralized. Your food sits in the walk-in and rots because you don't have enough business. Last time we were there for lunch, or maybe it was the time before that, the bar was filled to capacity and people were laughing and joking. We were the only people in the restaurant last time we went, and then the pick up order was the death blow. Please, Owner do something! Do happy hour. Make a seasonal menu. There's something really wrong going on here and I don't see anyone addressing it. We truly hope you take this in the right spirit because we don't want our local restaurants closing, especially ones that we really enjoyed. The casual atmosphere, of the politeness and professionalism of the servers is great. One suggested we have is that your restaurant is pretty hard to find even though it's on the main street in Croton On Hudson. There are no outside signs and we walked past it so many times it's not funny. If you can't think of anything to improve your business, then if we were you, and we're not you, we would just close and cut our losses. Owners please use your imagination or ask other successful restaurants what they are doing because we know you have at least two others. Please do something to save your restaurant. We don't eat at McDonald's we never have. We've never had a fast food hamburger in our lives! It's the disgusting smell that got us and this was before I was vegan or vegetarian same goes for my husband. It would hurt us personally, even though it's not our restaurant to see you close . Maybe you overextended yourselves we have no idea, but one of the owners or investors must do something if you want to save this restaurant! DO SOMETHING! Please getting angry at us for telling our honest picky opinion is not going to pick up your sales. You should also invite feedback because then you know which mistakes you're making with the public instead of having a fit because somebody wrote a negative review of your Restaurant. If you would take the time to look at our reviews, you would see at the beginning we gave you five stars and now we just can't in all honesty and we're not gonna lie about it. Wishing you the best of luck and we know you don't like being told what to do, but you must do something unless you just are going to close this restaurant. You're paying people, except the weight staff of course, decent money we assume. Please don't waste all this effort that you already put in unless you think it's a better idea just to close. We're very sorry we had to write this review.

We were heading up to Croton-on-Hudson for a show and none of the restaurant options were looking appealing. We wanted something with a view of the water since it was the first truly Spring weather day we'd had this season. I saw that the rating for this place wasn't spectacular, but loved the photos and decided to read recent ratings, and we decided, even if the food is "meh" at least we'll be outside by the water. The Boathouse did not disappoint. The host who seated us was friendly and enthusiastic. Our server was everything you want in a server: Friendly, Confident in making suggestions, Attentive without being pushy or annoying, and just an honestly great man who was so fun to chat with. We both just had mains: Husband had the seafood gumbo. Wow! So packed with flavor, and yes, the spice hit you on the back end, but SO yummy. Packed with seafood and sausage, rice that wasn't gummy, and I am sorry Tom Colicchio, the okra was delicious! The "slime" that we all fear had more of a velvety texture that was not off-putting at all, and the flavor was really unique and enjoyable. i had the Shrimp Luciano. Five jumbo shrimp without a hint of vein or shell, sautéed in an egg batter that crisped at the edges. The sauce...omg....so flavorful. I find so often that chefs add too much of spice and herb but not here. It was well balanced and so yummy. If I wasn't in public, I would have licked the plate clean! Oh, and it came with green beans, one of my least favorite vegetables because again, I find so many just over cook and over season. This were lightly sautéed so they had a fresh from the garden taste and a perfect snap to them. Garlic mashed potatoes...made with red bliss...had a sweet element, not sugary, but there was a flavor were just couldn't identify....maybe a hit a nutmeg? Regardless, they were heavenly. Then we made the decision to share a slice of the crème brûlée cheesecake. We didn't have room, but our "neighbors" at the next table said we had to try it...so we did. WOW! This was not your typical heavy overly sweet cheesecake. It was light, had specks of vanilla, a very thin lovely crust and the taste....sooooooo good. The wine by the glass choices were great: $12 for a wonderful glass of Albariño?? It was so crips and light and perfect with my meal. Husband had an IPA...we think it was called Maine Lunch and it was also delightful. I will note: the tables are NOT on the dock. They are a ways back but the water view surrounds you. I saw some tables set up right by the dock edge near the water and apparently they have a bar and music there once it gets warm. If it wasn't a 2 hour in traffic drive, this would be our new regular haunt. For now, we will have to make excuses to go up this way!
