Disclaimer: I always give my stars rating based on the type of restaurant, so I rate a Michelin star differently than a great hang place. We were heading up to Croton-on-Hudson for a show and none of the restaurant options were looking appealing. We wanted something with a view of the water since it was the first truly Spring weather day we'd had this season. I saw that the rating for this place wasn't spectacular, but loved the photos and decided to read recent ratings, and we decided, even if the food is "meh" at least we'll be outside by the water. The Boathouse did not disappoint. The host who seated us was friendly and enthusiastic. Our server was everything you want in a server: Friendly, Confident in making suggestions, Attentive without being pushy or annoying, and just an honestly great man who was so fun to chat with. We both just had mains: Husband had the seafood gumbo. Wow! So packed with flavor, and yes, the spice hit you on the back end, but SO yummy. Packed with seafood and sausage, rice that wasn't gummy, and I am sorry Tom Colicchio, the okra was delicious! The "slime" that we all fear had more of a velvety texture that was not off-putting at all, and the flavor was really unique and enjoyable. i had the Shrimp Luciano. Five jumbo shrimp without a hint of vein or shell, sautéed in an egg batter that crisped at the edges. The sauce...omg....so flavorful. I find so often that chefs add too much of spice and herb but not here. It was well balanced and so yummy. If I wasn't in public, I would have licked the plate clean! Oh, and it came with green beans, one of my least favorite vegetables because again, I find so many just over cook and over season. This were lightly sautéed so they had a fresh from the garden taste and a perfect snap to them. Garlic mashed potatoes...made with red bliss...had a sweet element, not sugary, but there was a flavor were just couldn't identify....maybe a hit a nutmeg? Regardless, they were heavenly. Then we made the decision to share a slice of the crème brûlée cheesecake. We didn't have room, but our "neighbors" at the next table said we had to try it...so we did. WOW! This was not your typical heavy overly sweet cheesecake. It was light, had specks of vanilla, a very thin lovely crust and the taste....sooooooo good. The wine by the glass choices were great: $12 for a wonderful glass of Albariño?? It was so crips and light and perfect with my meal. Husband had an IPA...we think it was called Maine Lunch and it was also delightful. I will note: the tables are NOT on the dock. They are a ways back but the water view surrounds you. I saw some tables set up right by the dock edge near the water and apparently they have a bar and music there once it gets warm. If it wasn't a 2 hour in traffic drive, this would be our new regular haunt. For now, we will have to make excuses to go up this way! read more

We were in the area and looking for a place to get a quick bite, this place is so cute , small but the service there is extremely friendly and efficient. We sat at the bad and had an amazing experience . The food is so delicious and very well priced as well . Overall a great experience , the only bad thing was the bathroom , not very clean . It's an issue that needs to be corrected . We plan on going back but I hope the bathroom is a bit cleaner next time . read more

Updating my review --- We decided to sit outdoors overlooking the marina at The Boathouse in Ossining -- such a lovely spot with a relaxed, waterfront vibe. To start, we had cocktails. My husband ordered a Bloody Mary, which came topped with two grilled shrimp -- buttery, nicely seasoned, and perfectly cooked. He really enjoyed it. I went with an Aperol Spritz, which was light, crisp, and refreshing. For an appetizer, we shared the steamed clams in a red pepper and bacon broth. The clams were meaty and flavorful, and the broth was so delicious we soaked it up with their homemade bread, fresh from the oven. Our server was friendly, efficient, and offered great suggestions. My husband wanted fish and chips, but instead of the full platter, he asked if he could have it on a roll. The waiter suggested turning it into a po' boy, and it was a fantastic idea! He even asked if my husband wanted it a little spicy -- he said yes -- and the result was an enormous, perfectly fried sandwich. The fish was crispy on the outside, flaky inside, and not heavy at all. I had a few bites and was impressed. It came with crispy, golden fries that were excellent. I was there for what I believed would've my last lobster roll this year. I meant to order the cold lobster roll but accidentally ordered the warm one -- and I'm glad I did! It was absolutely delicious, with whole pieces of claw and knuckle meat (nothing shredded), just tossed in a tarragon aioli and served on a toasted bun with the same crispy fries. The outdoor patio has about 10 tables, covered for shade, and the indoor area is bright, nicely air-conditioned, with a bar area featuring high-top booths and another section with regular tables. Overall, the food, service, and setting were all wonderful. I'll definitely be back -- next time to try that cold lobster roll! On site free parking is another plus. read more

I had such a great experience at The Boathouse in Ossining! The lobster rolls were absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The fish and chips were crispy and light without being too greasy. The service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and welcoming from start to finish. They have an outdoor area where they use a boat as a bar, super creative. Drove passed the place 100 times while going to No. 3 Westerly...what a mistake! The place is so cool. Exactly what you expect by the name Boat House. New England Dive Bar vibes with delicious food and a nice drink selection. My Lobster Roll was yummy and FULL of delicious fresh Lobster meat. Our server Lyndsey was so nice and helpful with our questions ( as first timers ) we came for brunch but are very looking forward to coming back for dinner and cocktails at the "Boat Bar" outside. Please mind the Duck Crossing sign in the lot, as they ducks really do come right up...and as reflected in my pics, one casualty has already occurred..RIP. My girlfriend and I went yesterday evening for the first time. It's a tight turn to get into the parking lot, but it was a nice spacious lot with free parking. The view out into the river was beautiful! The service was smooth overall. We were seated quickly and the waitress was attentive. We were off to a good start. My girlfriend got a margarita with strawberry puree that was tasty. We split a arancini for an appetizer and it was DELICIOUS. The sauce was so good that we asked for bread to finish it up! Unfortunately it went downhill from there. My girlfriend ordered a salmon burger and she just really didn't like it one bit. It came with fries which were decent. I got macaroni with chicken. It really gave me the impression that it was reheated. You know when you reheat mac n cheese in the microwave? It was kinda like that. Not good at all. Minimal flavor, kinda dry. Bleh. The chicken pieces were clearly frozen cheap quality chicken tenders which also seemed to be microwaved because they weren't crispy at all. They were mushy and soft with bits of cartilage in a good amount of the pieces. The portion of mac n cheese was generous for the price, but it just wasn't good *at all.* Unfortunately we won't be going back, which is a bummer because we loved hanging out with the ducks that would stroll around the outdoor seating area! We arrived for our reservation on time, but were not seated for about 30 minutes, waiting for a table to leave. I was getting a little anxious, as we had only a certain amount of time to sit and enjoy and my sons having one get back to work and one to his baseball game. We were finally seated. Our server was friendly. We placed the whole order right away, as we were pressed for time at this point. Our apps came out and were very good. Arrancini balls and calamari. for dinner I had the crab cake sandwich, my sons the pollo doro sandwich, and my husband had the garden salad, and up the river wrap. unfortunately my husbands salad came with his sandwich. Our food was good. Service was okay. we had to ask for water refills, bread, etc. we were not informed of the specials. I only knew they had some because she told the table next to us. ANYWAY... It took about thirty minutes to serve food after ordering and the waiter also was quite slow to get our check etc. the food was ok. It's fresh but the flavor isn't the best. I lived in Hawaii for six years and ordered tuna poke here. And it tasted very unauthentic. It's very sweet and salty. This is an incredibly cozy and warm restaurant with great views and attentive staff. We got to sit outside in a covered area attached to the restaurant. It was very pleasant. I had the Boathouse clams, mussels, and clam chowder. My dining buddy had a black and white tuna salad. The tuna was a tuna steak heavily crusted in a solid coat - rare is always best. Quite good as I got to taste it. The food was excellent and service was spot on. They also have Fat tire on tap. Remember to tip well. read more

We ordered 2 shrimp po' boys to go. The ciabatta bread was an interesting choice for it. Can't say I would ever make it that way unless requested. The shrimp was cooked as it should have been however there was a lack of flavor. The sauce that was provided on the sandwiches was minimal at best. The taste and flavor profile was smothered by the bread and the fryer oil. Also word to the wise, ask for condiments (there were none provided) and they serve the Sammy and fries in an aluminum tin. Your fries will be soggy. I'm a little disappointed at the cost/product ratio here. Glad I didn't order the $MP lobster roll. read more

This spot was definitely a hidden gem. They had live music and a cool outdoor bar and space. The seafood here was really good and ill definitely be going back for the vibes. I even got extra food to go just so I can try more. The only thing that was dissapointing was the seafood rice was semi dry. Everything else was on point. The staff was really nice and accomadating. I think the boathouse has come along way since my last review. They have a really great drink selection and really good bartenders here. One of my favorite dishes here is called crab fries. It is fabulous. I've tried their lobster roll, which is really delicious. They have a great selection of food. If you come here during the summertime, you will get to enjoy some music outdoors. This place was better a few years ago. Hamburgers were awful. No choice of a nice soft roll. The only choice was a tough chewy ciabatta roll. You needed shark teeth to tear it apart. The angry Val was different too. Too much chicken. What happened to only seafood? I guess it's another one bites the dust restaurant. Sad. read more

we ate there 2 weeks ago, I remembered i didn't like the lobster roll, from a past visit it was over loaded with Tarragonand on the small side. they had a special with a different lobster roll, hot, with a butter sauce,I confirmed this was was not made with tarragon I believe it was $38 terrible over drenched in butter sauce that the roll fell apart very little lobster meat and it was all shredded. plus the place needs a deep cleaning. read more

Date of Service: 06/26/2024 First trip to "The Boathouse". Entering the location in a full size SUV was interesting to say the least. Very tight single lane entrance for entry and exit. Location is directly on the Hudson River. On arrival, our large group, was immediately seated at our reserved time slot. Our server, Ryan greeted us and took our drink orders. I ordered a Bloody Mary before our appetizers. It was pretty decent and was made as ordered, "extra spicy". We ordered the Fried Calamari and Arancini for the table, and I had a bowl of their New England Clam Chowder. The appetizers were decent and the clam chowder was actually better than I had expected it to be. The chowder had a good amount of clams and also had a crazy amount of large scallops! A nice treat / bonus indeed. For my main, I ordered the "Very Angry Val". The dish appears to be a riff on the Utica classic, "Chicken Riggies". The difference here is that instead of a creamy tomato based, spicy sauce, "The Boathouse" version is an olive oil and garlic / hot cherry pepper / garlic take. In addition to the classic chicken, they added the aforementioned large scallops, shrimp, and although not listed on the menu, my plate had clams and calamari rings added to the dish. I guess the Chef added some extra seafood he needed to offload before the end of the last plates went out that evening. Either way, I'm not complaining. The dish was very satisfying. Only warning to anyone who orders this dish, be prepared to wear a bib and not wear any light colored clothing! There is a lot of olive oil in the dish and you'll be wiping your chin constantly as the oil runs off of the rigatoni as you try to get it into your mouth. You were warned! Overall, the experience at "The Boathouse" was favorable. My review on the food would warrant a five star review, but the space was very LOUD and was too hot. Therefore, I have to gig them a star. When I left, although I was totally satisfied with my food and service, I left with a splitting headache and soaked in sweat! The space is small and I can only assume the ac unit was being overtaxed on that particular day. The regulars at the bar were screaming their heads off during the entire time I was there. There was one particular bloated boor, who only seemed to know a single word and it began with the letter "F". Our group had four small children and several women in it. These things definitely took away from the overall experience. I will probably be back at "The Boathouse" again this Summer. PS: Give Ryan a raise. Poor guy ran his ass off all night covering too many tables. read more

This is the kind of welcoming place that would be my go to if I lived nearby. They expanded their waterfront seating due to the pandemic and it's lovely. The burger and fries were fresh, homemade and delicious. The Rum Runner brought me back to the Florida Keys. Prices are reasonable and the service is great. They have social distancing precautions and hand sanitizer on every table. They're open year round except for February. read more

I came back to Ossining this week for my best friend's wedding, and we stopped by The Boathouse for dinner. I am so glad we did. I've been before, but never for dinner. The Boathouse is one of those places with decor that is incredibly welcoming, and when you walk in, the staff, and the owner, immediately treat you like family. We were seated and our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable, attentive and kind. We ordered a bunch of food to share, and everything was fresh, the perfect temperature, and it all tasted amazing. Our table ordered the following: 1. The clams: These were unlike any clams I've had before. The broth was incredible and the clams, fresh. 2. The crab cakes: These were seasoned perfectly and the tartar sauce that went with them, was some of the best I've ever had. 3. The lobster roll: They gave you so much meat, and the tarragon aioli was a great touch. I also loved how they used just enough of that aioli. Order this! 4. The Arancini: Crispy and cheesy, with an amazing vodka sauce for dipping. What more could you ask for. After these appetizers, I ordered the Seafood PotPie. It was filled with Shrimp, Scallops and Crawfish and the sauce was this incredibly creamy bisque. Honestly - this is a star dish, especially as it is getting colder outside. I could not recommend The Boathouse more. The food, the staff, the drinks, the setting - all of it was wonderful. Thank you to Lisa, Ryan and the entire staff. You are all wonderful! I love that the Boathouse has changed up their menu a bit. They kept the great items, kicked off the so-so and added in some variety. Tuna poke bowl, avocado stuffed with crab.. that is what I'm talking about! For a place on the water, yes the prices are a bit higher but the vibe is chill, and in summer it is prime territory. They have outdoor seating and a cute boat bar on the docks. Parking can get a bit annoying when it gets poppin but luckily the train station is only a 5 min walk away! read more

The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful and the waitstaff couldn't be better, but the food just isn't very good and we're always disappointed - which for the cost - I'd just expect better. If the food was better - I'd be here every week as it's so close and I love the view/ Highlight of the menu is definitely the tuna sandwich. believe the bad reviews. i cannot even wrap my head around how bad this was. drinks are good. spicy crab fries looked like vomit and tasted alright. tuna poke came with no more than 5-10 pita chips and just tasted like teriyaki sauce. seafood pot pie was good, but my stomach was turning after we found more than one hair cooked into the batter of the wings we ordered- which were unappetizing even before we found the hair. took about 25 minutes to get water which we ended up having to ask someone who was not our waiter for. wouldn't be surprised if I woke up with food poisoning. frozen, disgusting, overpriced food with trash service. waste of my time and money. run away and stay away. read more
