What can I say, it's not your run of the mill diner. The menu is quite eclectic, most items are scratch made. Menu items include Duck & Truffle Mac & Cheese, String Bean Fries, a very extensive all day breakfast menu, large Tater menu. It's clean, the service is friendly and prompt and during the week it's open until midnight & on weekends it's opened until 2:00 AM. We've had Duck & Truffle Mac & Cheese, The Dubliner (pastrami,carmelized onion & cheddar cheese), Turkey (house roasted) club, meatloaf, oh and yes String Bean Fries, just to mention a few. The prices were good and the portions were big. I really liked my grilled cheese and fries. The cole slaw was good as well. The omelettes were liked by everyone. The baked potato could have been more soft but it was ok. The whipped butter was nice. One set of toast was burnt and the other fine. Mixed reviews on the burger and home fries. I've been to this restaurant 3 times in the past month. The first time I came here was a month ago and had great service and food. The burger was good and fries was good , we also had pancakes and onions rings, service was good. This was during the afternoon. We came here two more times in the evening and had the same server both times. She was awful, both times it was slow we were the only table in the restaurant, she took over 15 minutes to come over. I ordered the French dip. The fries were ice cold, and I wanted a side of mayonnaise but she never came back after dropping off the food. I wanted a refill on my drink but she didn't come back until we waved her over for the check. The third time we came in we again were the only table and she took a long time to come take our order. She got the order wrong, I didn't want cheese on my burger and wanted a bowl of chili. She has absolutely no idea how to be a server. DDs needs to retrain her how to serve. She didn't come back ask us how our food was. I had tons of ask her where the chili was, she had to put the order in later. I am giving this 2 stars rather than one because the ambiance remains much nicer than most diners. In terms of food it deserves one star. This used to be the premier diner in this part of Westchester. You knew you were getting really great food and a lot of it when you walked through their doors. No longer. Not sure what happened (new owners?) but though everything looks the same, everything is different. For a year or two now we've been disappointed each time we're there. Tasteless or off-tasting food and though the service is ok, there was definitely a falloff in that department too. To the point that we stopped going there. Until today, when some friends wanted to try it again. Okay. We'll give it another chance. Walking in, the late afternoon sun gave a very inviting mood to the place. HOWEVER, we got the fried chicken and soup. Absolutely tasteless. Even the mashed potatoes. Put some weird "turkey gravy" on it and salt and strangely it remained tasteless. The cheesecake? Food here is a step above! Whether you order Chili & Chips, Matzo/Chicken Soup, Traditional Turkey Dinner, or Fried Poached Eggs Over Spinach Everything is Fresh & Delicious. Rest Rooms were recently beautifully remodeled and the Art Deco interior is currently being refurbished and is promising to be extra special. Recently they expanded their hours and I can only hope the community takes advantage because it's very nice having them open late. We are always excited to try someplace new, new for us. We missed the Landmark Diner and I spotted an ad for DD's Diner in Ossining. I honestly thought it was a new diner that was built on the Landmarks footprint, but it's not. We decided to go check=k it out and we were so pleased we did! We came for lunch and shared a soup and a turkey club. The diner gives a 70's feel but it it is spotless and everything is in perfect condition, the waitstaff is very friendly and anxious to please. The food was served in a timely fashion and was delicious and generous in portion size. We liked it so much we decided to come back for breakfast a few days later! We both ordered omelettes, myself a Greek and my husband a western , both delicious and generous portions again. The breakfast potatoes were delicious and I ask for lettuce and tomato as my side, not an issue. All in all it was a great experience and we will be back, no doubt about it. Big diner that you can't miss while driving through Ossining. Large menu with large portions of food. They were nice enough to let me share my breakfast quesadilla with my son. They were very friendly and accommodating. The downside - the bathroom is in need of repair, the floors especially at the entrance to the kitchen needs to be repaired. The place looks like it's falling apart and the owners don't care that customers see it. It makes you wonder if it looks in such poor condition facing the customer, what does the kitchen look like and is it clean? Ate here on a whim early Spring 2023. The parking area was tight and I had to wait to get all settled. There was a few minutes wait at the entrance to be seated, as tables who were seated were given priority. Makes sense. The hostess was polite/fast. After she handed us an oversize menu we snagged a table with wide window seats at the front of the dining room which was really neat. Looking out the window you could catch a view of the goings on out front. The big DD's Diner sign is classic old school and the sign alone is worth coming to this Diner for! Done perusing all the choices (of which there are a lot, but I noticed that some families let their kids 'customize' their own food: really??) we ordered. My BLT 'Triple Decker' sandwich was sliced nice and neat and layered high and thin. The bread was dark and seeded and banging! My dish was plated professionally and nicely in the kitchen (no shift on the plate from when it was plated by chefs then brought out by waitress - means the staff are professionals). My meal was not some stale or flavorless affair. It was swathed and smothered in sauce, some leafed lettuce, MEAT, and a lump of tomato and onion. Fries were thicker than McDonald's, bendable and dippable but not stale or dry. The food was hot. The sandwich and sides were flavorful and very delicious. The waitress got me some extra sauce to use for dipping which I appreciated very much. I gorged! I was hungry and DD's unexpectedly & totally delivered for a seriously hungry traveler. I had to refrain from downing the whole dinner in sauce and ketchup in one sitting! YUMMM. Food sizes outmatch what you pay, for once. Its worth every dollar you pay for food at DD's Diner. They add sauce, water, condiments, pickles and relish to some dishes and they KNOW HOW to do it, too. This place went from a destination to the crapper in 2 short years. Tried the house fried chicken today and it tasted like cardboard. Very dry. The chicken, mashed potatoes and the gravy were all cold. The service was poor and inattentive. The Oreo cheesecake tasted disgusting and the server initially lied that the cheesecake was made on site and then said the owner gets them on the outside then said he gets them from various places on the outside. On mornings when I don't feel like making breakfast, I order takeout from here. My go-to is poached eggs with a side of tater tots (sometimes well done bacon too!). Really reliable and consistent. Sadly, after quite a few good reviews of DD's its time to reconsider. A few months ago I went alone for a cheeseburger and fries. Standard diner fare. also standard with fries and a cheeseburger is GRAVY on the french fries. Well, when the bill came I was charged $1 for gravy on fries...WHAT? Who charges a dollar for gravy on fries? Do you charge extra for tomato sauce on spaghetti? After a few more visits at a table across from me the customer got a bill for SALAD DRESSING on a salad? The breakfast burrito was watery, making the tortilla literally fall apart. One guest asked *3* x about dairy in the vegetable sandwich was assured none.. until she said there is pesto on this and there is cheese in pesto.
