A nice setting for a special occasion, with attentive service, relaxed atmosphere and pricey food (seafood, steak, etc), with a Hispanic twist. However, I'm not one for expensive places if the food isn't outstanding, and also just not the fancy schmancy kind of person. We've been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally got the chance on a Saturday evening. With a view of the Hudson and even the city in the distance, it is a picturesque spot to make memories. The space is well staffed, with many people milling around, and they make you feel well cared for. The menu is a mixture of seafood, steak, and tapas type things. Entrees are about $40-70, appetizers are around $20-30, and the tapas items are $5 but small. They had a few specials, one of which was a $68 steak social with bone marrow filled with cheese and corn, as well as guacamole and aioli sauce; with the caveat that I'm not a big fan of meat, I didn't think this was a special dish but i liked the concept. The flounder was breaded with a well-dressed salad; typically I don't like fried fish and now I remember why and for $46 and a pretty common fish, i want to be wow'ed. The calamari and croquette were fine too. I did enjoy the tiramisu ($15) but it didn't feel like the best ever per se. Yes they had a couple lobster dishes and other seafood like mussels and oysters. I've been going to half moon with friends forever. Just had my birthday dinner in February, but the real vibe is when the weather is nice. It's an amazing place with an amazing view l, great food but even better cocktails. Honestly, it's a wonderful place just outside of the city. Service can be hit or miss, last time I was there I had to ask for bread and the waiter wasn't on top of it. My friend and I had a great time, but often had to flag down the waiter to ask for certain things. I think we would have ordered more if he had checked in more often. A hundred of us met for dinner at Half Moon along the Hudson. The seafood focused menu is always delicious, service impeccable, and the atmosphere spectacular. Coming from Florida I was looking forward to seeing the change of season reflected in the foliage. It was beautiful outside, and I enjoyed sitting along the Hudson at the fire pits. Trays of Wines & appetizers were served & delicious, the brie & jam, grilled mushrooms & shrimp were tasty. The tables were filled with family style platters of salads, pitas, dips & olives. Quality place! I came here for my anniversary with my boyfriend and he surprised me with this pic of a restaurant. He said it was different back in the day when he went because it was primarily Italian food, but now it's changed and it's more Spanish food. Admittedly, I forgot to take a picture of our appetizer, but we had gotten a hummus platter and that was quite good. It came with hummus, tzatziki, and one other sauce I can't remember the name of it, but it was reddish (it was good). I then got the steak medium well , and it was honestly Bussin gurl. Even the side salad was fuegooo. And the fries were crispy goodness. For dessert, we got the moose cake to share because I was way too full at that point, and we ended up taking it home because we couldn't finish it, but it was so good too. For drinks, we ordered a white sangria and I'm absolutely getting that shit again because I was downing that sucker cause it was (dangerously) good. It's been a long time since I've had such bad service at a restaurant. It seemed like the waiter was annoyed we got seated in his area so purposely avoided us. It took someone 25 mins to come and even greet us at our table and that was to tell us the waiter would be with us shortly. Multiple times throughout our meal I had to ask other people for waiter for things because he was just MIA. Besides this the food was pretty average. I found a bunch of bones in my fish. Which is really disappointing when you spend over $300 on a meal. If the food was really good I probably wouldn't have minded how bad the service was. But you can't have both average food and bad service. The only really good part was the oyster and that's cuz they're not cooked. This was my first time here. Went for lunch this week with a friend and was so pleasantly surprised to have a wonderful experience. I have been here before and this time was exceptional. I had a shrimp entree special with asparagus and my friend has a scrimp entree with spinach. Both were delicious. I had the baked clams which were so good and friend had the fried calamari. It's a beautiful spectacle, and you can wax romantic about the sunset views. But ultimately, the food is below-average and expensive. The fried fish was dredged in so much batter, there was uncooked raw flour surrounding a thin filet of fish. Powdery, pasty, raw batter. Went here with my Girl and another couple. The ambiance of this place is very warm, comfortable and welcoming. They have a large fire pit in the center of the restaurant...with couches all around it, not too far from the bar. Very comfortable environment. The service was very kind, respectful and prompt. For dinner I had ordered Grilled Chicken Paillard which was excellent! My Girl got Seared Rare Tuna which was prepared perfectly! Our friends ordered Roasted Cauliflower Steak and Prime New York Strip Steak Frites. All were fantastic! We also ordered a few appetizers like a Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail and a couple Chicory & Apple Salads. Anyway...very good food, very fine service and very comfortable setting. We will be going back! Food was amazing! They have a new chef who is very innovative. Everything we ate was delicious. The calamari was tender, not chewy. The salmon had an amazing sauce. The chicken sandwich was crispy and huge! Delicious drinks and the FPBC ice cream sandwich was out of this world (need at least 4 people to eat it). More importantly, every server we encountered was over the top nice! We sat outside and a sudden rain storm rolled in. People ran inside and the staff was extremely accommodating during the chaos. They were chill while figuring out which table was where. All in all, since I last visited in 2023, this restaurant has reached a whole new level. Made a reservation on Saturday night and came here for brunch on Sunday morning when it first opened. There is a big parking lot and the restaurant has amazing views. The window/outdoor seats are first come first serve so making the first reservation of the day at 11a was a good choice. It was raining so the outdoor seating was closed but sitting by the window you are super close to the water, which was very nice. The tapas were very good, portions are extremely small, so keep in mind to order a bunch if you are interested in tapas. The flavors were great, pleasantly surprised by the mix of flavors. Our main courses were chicken and waffle and french toast. We loved the french toast, it was close to one of the best ones we've had. The chicken and waffle had lots of breading on the chicken and I wish there was more meat than breading but overall flavor and presentation was good. This is super close to our apartment and a wonderful place for brunch, would definitely be visiting again! read more

When we walked in, we were not greeted as we should have been. The girls at the desk were busy talking to each other. I had asked for a waterfront table, but those , one of them , said haughtily, are never reserved. They walked us over to a table overlooking their patio, closed for the winter, and which seemed as if we were sitting by a parking lot, albeit within view of the water if we turned our heads a certain way. We had two servers, which was strange, and they were as disinterested in us as the reception desk girls were. It was restaurant week. The dishes we ordered were just okay... my flounder Milanese was similar to a breaded piece out of a freezer... not great! The ice cream on the dessert was extra for a scoop of icy chocolate ice cream... the flan was too too eggy, and the top wasn't crisp at all. The half lobster was good but a little watery - not sure why but it tasted good. The accompaniments were also well matched. Rigatoni with mushroom bolognese was the special. We had that. Nice Al dente pasta and a nice ragout with a trio of mushrooms. Taste was good but could have developed more. Felt like it was 3 parts and not one cohesive dish. Very tasty. Entree was the shrimp escarole with white wine sauce and bacon with navy bean. It was delicious. Tart taste. Nice combo. Dish came together beautifully. Shrimp were good. I actually was fortunate to come to half Moon soft opening about 16 years ago and was blown away with the views the staff and everything about it quite honestly the service was impeccable. The food was a delight because I kept coming back. now I find myself in a peculiar situation because I can't say this tonight the staff almost ignored us. I ordered drinks twice same drink both times same waitress forgot it and the secondary waitress had to bring it to me. Food came out lukewarm and we left between horses. I want to say there was a wedding going on and maybe most of the staff was occupied with them so I'm hoping that was the case because it be ashamed such a beautiful place to go downhill like this because of service. I can't say I won't be back but I can say I won't be eager to recommend or return soon. read more

I am calling out getting ripped off. We've had it with Half Moon. My wife and I went here for a cocktail and "pintxos". Pintxos are like Spanish tapas but generally small and for one person. You order a bunch. We love pintxos and were excited to try them. Wow - what a rip off and disappointment. I order two "pan con tomate", which is supposed to be bread with a lightly salted fresh tomato puree, olive oil and garlic spread. What I got was a tiny piece of bread with crushed tomatoes STRAIGHT OUT OF A CAN plotted on top. It was disgusting! I had also order Iberico ham with melon. Iberico ham is the best of the best, and very distinct. I call total BS! What I got was tasteless under ripe melon (hard and crunchy), with a TINY shrivel of cheap fatty prosciutto (at best). The cocktail? We ordered a "cool" cucumber gin and tonic which looked like it had food die it was so green, and it tasted like a kale and lemon energy shot (that's not a compliment). All this for a mere $60. Never again. read more

TLDR: If you get any thing other than a drink here, you'll be disappointed. Even then... Latest experience: Showed up for our 5:30 reservation at the same time as about 6 or 7 other families after a graduation. Had a large party, so we put in our orders for drinks and everyone's entree within 20 minutes of sitting down. Had some little kids in our party so we were hoping to get the food out early. We did have some members of our family running late, but we said we can put everything in. Actually recieved our entrees about 2 hours later (~7:30). In the meantime, it took about 30-45 minutes to get drinks, since of course they were spilled on our graduate's white dress. And there were very few check ins and waters refilled. Maybe about once an hour. The place was about 3/4 full. Not slammed. Not packed. There were empty tables. A manager did come by to make light of the spill by saying there was no broken glass. But she didn't seem to notice that we were sitting there without food for 2 hours. After about 90 minutes of waiting, we tracked down our waiter to see where our food was and he said there was a "miscommunication with the kitchen" and our food would be out soon. I've been a waiter at a few restaurants, so that's code for "oh sh*t, I didn't submit the order". This happens. A lot. It definitely happened to me. But it usually doesn't take 90 minutes to realize. The waiter was happy to leave it at that - like it was totally fine that every other table around us in his area was already done and leaving - and we were just sitting there. So we tracked him down again and asked for a manager. A different manager acknowledged the really bad experience (spilled drinks, no food, zero service) and ended up taking off a kids entree, a side and our drinks. And he removed the mandatory gratuity because we had a large party (though we ended up giving the waiter something so we saved 2%). We didn't expect much, and we didn't get much so once again we were reminded why we don't come here. Look, it's a beautiful view, but if it didn't have the view there's no way this place would survive. The food is not good. I've never had anything here that wasn't a let down. And it's not cheap. So get a drink, look out at the river, and go literally anywhere else to eat. Previous review: Fantastic location! Everything else is mediocre at best. We've been here more than a dozen times for birthdays, brunch, dinners, etc. Have had some really poor food experiences (sandy po boy sandwich). I went to this restaurant with my ex-wife and adult daughter on Thanksgiving in 2023. I'm a whole-foods vegan who's intolerant of gluten, and there was hardly anything I could eat. Service was alright, but after a mundane salad and a mediocre squash soup, the only entree they could provide was white rice pasta that tasted like masking tape, with some tomatoes and vegetables. It was absolutely awful. And all the desserts have unhealthful sugar, which I don't eat. I had to make my own dinner when I got home! My ex and I split the bill. I wound up paying $200 for the worst meal I'd ever bought in all my 74 years! If you're a vegan into health, avoid this awful , overpriced restaurant at all costs! read more

We had a large party, but we made a reservation ahead of time. We ordered Crispy Calamari, West Coast Oysters, and East Coast Oysters to start. The appetizers also included bread. For dinner, I ordered the Pan Roasted Scallops. The dish came with honey nut squash purée, sprouting cauliflower, grapes, brown butter. The flavors blended beautifully and I already know I'll be ordering this again when I return. This restaurant is pricy, so that would be the only setback. Great for parties, brunches, date night, you name it. Bloody Mary was delicious as well as most drinks. Service is always professional, friendly and fast. Today we had the pleasure of having a selection of oysters which were fresh and delicious. The shrimp cocktail was a bit tough was still very good. I recently visited Half Moon during Hudson Valley Restaurant Week with my husband. It was a quiet Thursday night dinner which we enjoyed. It provided us a with an intimate atmosphere, that allowed our conversations to carry on easily. I had the calamari for an appetizer and panche seared salmon for an entree. Something was a bit off about the texture of the calamari, but I could quite pinpoint it, although the flavor was very nice. I enjoyed the Salmon very much. My husband had the wings for an appetizer, which he raved about. And the Chicken Milanese for an entrée. This is where Half Moon's service really excelled. My husband didn't read that it came worth olives, which he hates. When he reported this to our server, they immediately remade the arugula salad portion of the dish without the olives. It was greatly appreciated. We were willing to pay for another entree altogether, but our server came in and solved the issue quickly and effectively. All in all, the food was slightly above standard in my opinion, but the service was exceptional. We will definitely return when it's not restaurant week and try some other food options on the menu. read more
