We came to Harper's for brunch. When we arrived, there was only one other table seated, and the space felt quiet, cozy, and decorated with a lovely holiday vibe. We were excited to take advantage of the brunch special with unlimited mimosas for a set amount of time. Unfortunately, we didn't get to fully enjoy that deal because the service was extremely slow. We only ordered entrées, yet our food took over an hour to come out. We were on a time crunch since we had reservations for a nearby tour just five minutes away, and we chose this spot specifically for its convenient location. By the time the food arrived, we had about 10 minutes to eat and had to rush through our meal. While the food was delicious and the drinks were great, the long wait completely threw off our plans. Had a nice dinner at Harper's on a week night. The restaurant has cozy, elevated vibes. Bar/counter seating and table seating available. We didn't see it on our menu, but our server recommended the cheese plate starter, which had something for everyone. The Fra Diavolo included a generous amount of yummy mussels, and the shrimp were very large but chewy. The dish was served with charcoal baked bread. This evening I decided to take my wife on a date night to Harper's upon the recommendation of a client of mine as he mentioned a price fixed dinner with the pairing of 5 wines for $48. We arrived at 6:30 and decide to have a cocktail at the bar. The bartender was very nice and accommodating. We moved to our table and met our waiter Danny. After a very short time I mentioned that we are here for the price fix dinner and wine pairing. It was 7:09 and he said I'm sorry that needed at 7 pm and the computer would not allow him to enter the price. He said he would check and came back and said he could not honor the request as it is past 7pm and the computer will not allowing him to honor the price. I said well you need to fix it / make it happen. And my wife showed their web site stating their "deal" was good till 8pm for 3/26/26. He said he could not honor it. I said this is f'n ridiculous, your web site is your marketing tool and you are not honoring it ? Danny then grabbed the menus from our table, folded them up and told my wife and myself to get out! I then went to the bartender and asked if there is a manager or owner here. They said no one present. I was explaining the situation to the bartender and Danny was interjecting- I said to him I am speaking with the bartender and not you. As I continue explaining the situation to the bartender that's when she said to Danny "They wanted the price fix with wine pairing " and Danny replied, Oh! After a few additional words Danny said if I'd felt threatened then you should have called the police. Can u believe a waiter saying this to a new customer. I was explaining to Danny that all we wanted was the wine pairing dinner and he said " there is no need for you repeat yourself, you just leave". Which we did. Clearly Danny does not know the restaurant specials and he does not know customer service. I would recommend a different restaurant. read more

Went in before closing for a cocktail, the waiter was polite and the inside was nice. The kitchen was closed and we only tried the cocktails, they didn't taste bad. But they hey forgot to put one ingredient in the liquid gold cocktail for my husband, namely tajin. My cocktail on the bar card cost $16 , but the bill showed it for $18. We had no desire at all to deal with the situation. So we just paid and left. I'm not sure what grade to give for the error in each of the orders, but I think it's fair to give it a 3. P.s. Harper's has brought a minimalist style- even when 'minimalist' wasn't a trend 10?, 11?, 12? years ago! The style is very stripped-back with a white-washed effect, wood accents, few, sleek iron touches, a frame here and there and a bar+area that's popping. Located on Main St in Dobbs Ferry, we decided to come here since we were close by. And their menu- while not 8-pages-long, said, "let's really enjoy Harper's". Plus my friend Jason M., had a lot of nice things to say. One of the blank spaces when you reserve on OpenTable- that you can navigate through Harper's website, has the 'select an occasion'. I normally forgo this option because even when I used to plug in the specific occasion at other restaurants, they just turn a blind eye on the request. Not Harper's my friend. Not Harper's. Greeting was warm with, "ahhhh, Mercedes....yes" and we were seated in no time. As if the warm greeting wasn't enough, 2 glasses of bubbly were brought over in the quickness. Thank you so very much. From there, everything still went uphill. From my wonderful girl Kiera, to the host, busgirls, cocktails that packed a nice punch that got you later and of course, the food. Every element has been thought of. Even with their 'minimal' feel, their menu mirrors that concept as well. From our cheese plate, to my chunky smashed potatoes to hubs' root vegetable medley in his dish- everything was very natural and so tasty. And while not strictly devoted to seafood, Harper's still serves up an aquatic bounty with care and flair. From their octopus appetizer that sounded nice, to their baked oysters- we went way off on another tangent and ordered other items instead. Everything about Harper's set the tone for our special evening to celebrate the first time hubs and I met 21 years ago. I've been going to Harper's for the last 6 years now. My wife and I both live in Yonkers but we make the trip out here because of how amazing everything is. The atmosphere is superb, the waitstaff is lovely, and the drinks are one of a kind. With that being said, the food is what keeps us coming back to Harper's. The food here is second to none, my favorite dish is the Lamb chops. My wife usually gets the fusilli or the gnocchi. The food was bad (toast with ricotta and prosciutto was cold and odd (basically a slab of ham... awkward to eat), all the oysters had A LOT of shells in each bite, and we even experienced the dreaded hair on the burger dish. Nothing better than dry aged steak, we went to Harper's over the weekend and had a great time, we had the beef carpaccio which was outstanding, tho I can use more lemon. Absolutely love, the new owners, personable, engaging, checked on us several times. Will admit was a little disappointed with the change of menu. Some of my favorites are gone, but the new additions are absolutely fabulous! The servers were extremely attentive and accommodating. The new owners I think are there about a month. There were a couple little hiccups, but they made sure to accommodate. They gave us a desserts for free, which I will say do not pass up on the crème brûlée cheesecake absolutely fabulous. Best meal I've had in a while. Group of six for brunch on a Saturday at noon. We initially had a table inside because we thought it would be too hot. But the day was beautiful and it was dark inside and the AC was very loud. They accommodated us outside which was nice. First, the cocktails. I had a rum drink which was very good. Strong pour. I also had a key lime drink which was fantastic. My husband wasn't drinking and they converted a few of the cocktails into mocktails and he was very happy. Since we were a large group we sampled quite a few things and everything was good. Highlights: Grilled octopus was a big hit (I don't eat it) Oysters: also very good according to those that ate them. Very fresh. Biscuits with preserves and cream: Oh my god. Two of the people in our party are from the south and they said they wish their grandmas made biscuits that good. Patatas bravas: hands down the BEST version of this dish I have ever had. It's one of my favorites and I order it wherever I get the chance. The potatoes were super crispy. I think they parboil them and then fry them. The texture was unbelievable and the smoked paprika they used was so good. The aioli was on point. Mushroom toast: absolutely delicious. Rich savory flavor and the egg in top was the perfect touch. Brioche French toast: perfection. Thick piece of brioche which was beautifully caramelized and then rich and custardy on the inside. It came with a dollop of homemade strawberry preserves and a dollop of fresh whipped cream. The ramekin of maple syrup wasn't necessary. Burger: I didn't try it but the person who had it said it was excellent. Also, the frites were very good. Poached eggs on a biscuit with hollandaise, kale, and ham: the person who had it said it was the best poached egg dish she's ever had. First time at Harpers, I decided to go for brunch. Boy Am I glad I did! I started off with a bloody Mary which was amazing, perfectly spiced. For appetizers we ordered the chicken liver mousse and the pork ribs. Wow! The chicken liver mousse was served on a crispy sourdough toast with hazelnuts. Both crisp and soft at the same time. Just perfect! The pork ribs were tangy and hardy with a very generous serving. For entrées, we ordered the mushroom toast and the brioche French toast. The mushroom toast was amazing, with a perfectly cooked poached egg with melted Gruyere,and fabulous wood mushrooms in a cider reduction. Absolutely crisp, rich, just delicious! The brioche French toast was a fluffy cloud of egg perfection. Delicious vanilla flavoring, loved it! For dessert, we ordered the Pavlova with lemon curd, pomegranate and almonds. It was a crunchy taste sensation! The restaurant itself is adorable, and the servers were very gracious and nice. Nobody rushed us. The quality of the food was top-notch. We loved everything. Great food in a cute little tucked away spot on Main Street. The restaurant is very underrated, they have a large dining space and outdoor seating in the front and back. The back patio area is filled with greenery so it makes for a pleasant dining experience. My first impression was that the menu was pretty small, but their food definitely made up for it! From what I've read about harpers, it seems as though their menu changes up based on the season. We ordered the risotto croquettes for an app, and got the pork Milanese, harpers burger and the salted caramel pot de creme. The food was great, the portion of the pork was large and the salad on top was plenty and had a great citrus flavor. The hamburger was also delicious as was the salted caramel dessert, which was light and airy. They also have a cocktail menu and regular wine/beer options. Pretty good place for a weeknight dinner, I'd be interested in going again in the fall to see what they cook up on the menu. read more

One of our favorite date-night spots in the Rivertowns, and their attention to safety and service during the pandemic has only enhanced their reputation. First, the COVID stuff: they are bookable through OpenTable, which allows you to reserve an outside table. They have outdoor seating both curbside and on their spacious back patio, which is warmed by a platoon of outdoor heaters. Tables are well spaced, and the staff wears masks properly. Their attention to safety was a key factor in leading us to rebook. On to the restaurant: This is the year to order a stiff drink, and Harper's is the place to do it. They have a rotating cocktail list that's both interesting and accessible -- recent fall highlights include the Mack & Jack (bourbon, sage, maple) and Autumn Blaze (rye, brown sugar, cinnamon, clove, and cider). They make drinks with skill, consistency, and speed. I'd rate their cocktail service alone as among the best in the Rivertowns. Beer and wine selections are concise and well-curated. The service is friendly and consistent. We are always seated promptly. Everyone is kind. Requests are always attended to. Service is prompt but unhurried. We've ordered widely off their menu, but our go-to is an assortment of appetizers. We prefer to try more dishes, and the higher price point on the mains usually makes us reticent to commit. But the small plates are so, so good. The smoked trout dip with homemade chips is a must. The beet salad we had recently guarantees we will always order their composed salad going forward. Any kind of seafood -- calamari, mussels -- will be a comfortable win. Finally, I'd say that in the great Rivertown Tour de French Fry, Harper's is easily top three: a shade better than RiverMarket and TBoy's, and neck and neck with MP Taverna. They are worth ordering as a side a la carte. Neglect dessert at your peril. Order the olive oil cake. Or two. read more

I chose this place based on all the great reviews that I saw online. Went to the website to look at the menu, and it looked perfect. Reasonably priced whether it was the pre-fix (which is typically 30) menu, or a-la-cart. I booked a reservation for Mother's Day brunch and we arrived to a mostly empty restaurant. When we arrived and got the menus, brunch was pre-pix 65$! (More on this in a minute) Double and then some based off of what their menu is traditionally. We decided to ride it out because I read how phenomenal the food was. It took 15 minutes to get our drink order after being seated. We noticed everything was moving slow, from people being seated, to food and drinks moving to the tables. I noticed no one in the restaurant was smiling or having a good time either, neither the patrons nor the staff. Order: Trout Dip. Was a smear of bland smokey white sauce over burnt toast. Tased like burnt toast. 2/10 Patatas Bravas. Undercooked potatoes with mayo and a bunch of paprika which was only applied to one side of the potato for some reason. Reminded me of the sad soggy fry at the bottom of the fast food bag, but unsalted. 1/10 Fruit. Hard to flap up what nature perfected. It's fruit, and it wasn't past its edible date. 10/10 Fried Chicken Sandwich. Overcooked and under seasoned. Nice pickles. No Salt; not on the fries nor the sandwich. Used to come with slaw was my understanding. 5/10 French Toast: It was one piece of french toast that was only cooked on one side. 0/10 Inedible Burger: Done medium. Cooked well and tasted fine. Still no salt on the fries. 8/10 Desert: Offered reluctantly, even though it was a part of the Brunch Pre Fix Menu, were two mini cannolis. Not bad. Compliments to whomever they bulk order them from. 6/10 Everyone has off days, but they really didn't seem like they were prepared for Mother's day service. I feel so terrible because I really wanted to take my partner to a cute place for a nice meal, but I feel like I got a bait and switch. And what is with changing and doubling the menu price, and not updating anything on your website except for on insta three days before Mother's day? If I knew going into today that I'd shell out 65 dollars for a burnt piece of toast, an overcooked chicken thigh, and two mini cannolis... Then spend another 65 on undercooked potatoes, inedible french toast, and two mini cannolis (cannolis were the only desert choice), we'd have stayed home. Other things of note: The service was poor. It seems they were understaffed? Things were not moving out of the kitchen quickly nor did we see out server more than 3-4 times in the hour and a half we were held hostage here. The food was simple. Which made it so frustrating it was so bad. Even worse considering we were being gouged for it. Food was getting sent back from other tables. Saw some oysters go back and boy did they have a hell of a time getting someone's attention to tend to their oysters. It was a nice place to be overall. It's a very well thought out place, and would normally be the perfect place to have brunch. It should be said that even though the service was poor everyone was very nice, if not overwhelmed. Probably the best and most underrated spot in the area. We have been living 8 minutes away for a year and are kicking ourselves that it took so long for us to find Harpers. Every bite of food as well as the cocktails were delicious. You can tell the quality of the ingredients and the thought they put into curating the menu. My husband got the chicken sandwich and it was also excellent. We are regretting not trying the duck confit special because we can only imagine how good it was based on everything else. We've been here twice and had extremely different experiences. The first time, we went on a Thursday night and sat outside on the back patio. Fast service, delicious food, and not crowded. Both the burger and pork schnitzel were great! The second time we dined was on a very busy Friday night. We made a reservation, but were told there was no record of it. After showing the hostess my reservation on the Resy app, I snuck a peek at the iPad and saw that my name had been moved to the "completed" section of reservations. After pointing this out to the hostess, she kept scrolling up and down (presumably trying to think on her feet and come up with a solution), then walked away. Roughly 10 minutes went by without any update. Eventually, we were told that the kitchen was very backed up and that's why we weren't being seated yet. Interesting - no "I'm sorry, somehow your reservation was marked completed." About 10 more minutes later, a table opened up and we were seated. Another couple who came in after us was seated at the same time, then ordered and received their food before we even got drinks. They paid and left before we got our food. Props for trying, but I think they just didn't have the staff for such a busy Friday night. So if you've got time to burn, it's probably still worth a trip. Went for the first time in a while and this place has really fallen off a cliff. Host had no idea how to read a reservation list, then we waited for 20+ minutes for a waiter to show up. Menu is no longer interesting and at times nonsensical(mozzarella cheese in French. Onion soup? pesto in a "calabrese" sauce?). Only the burger was cooked well. And short cuts abound: the prosciutto costing didn't use actually prosciutto (it was ham) and the dessert clearly used cool while and store bought cake. Too bad. We had a really nice brunch here with a group of 10. The restaurant was very aesthetically pleasing. Hardwood floors, old fashioned leather booths, and nice light fixtures. I also enjoyed the White Stripes playing throughout our meal. The brunch menu here is solid. It's a fairly creative menu that can be appreciated by vegetarians and non vegetarians equally. The prefix menu is $29 and it gets you a coffee, blood mary/mimosa/or juice, a starter, and an entree. It seems like great value, but my warning to everyone is to not come here with a huge appetite because their portions are small. The quality of the food is terrific, but you will have to spend an arm and a leg if you're looking to pig out My favorite part of the meal was the apple and cheddar salad starter. I am not big on mixing fruit in to salad especially with cheese, but this salad made me see the light. It all went together perfectly and it was delicious. I split this with my wife and also polished off the cod croquettes myself. They were decent but by no means a game changer. For my entree I got the sour dough French toast. It was topped with clementines and walnuts and just enough syrup to make it perfectly sweet. It was a very good piece of French toast, notice that that's singular. Without the prefix deal, this would be $14 by itself. In my opinion it is grossly overpriced. For dessert I shared the salted caramel pot de creme. This was outstanding. It's kind of like a chocolate/caramel mousse but not too thick or overwhelmingly rich. It's perfect for 2 people to share. The service did as well as they could of. We were a big group and they were very attentive. I would be open to returning for dinner one night. It's an excellent restaurant in terms of food quality and atmosphere. read more
