The food is amazing Chef Kevin's creations always a desire to keep coming back and ordering them again. Pairings with sauces are delicious. The cocktails and bartenders know how to crystallize an icy layer to top off a dry martini. The service is on point. Ambiance is a cool open space with a second floor where certain trios, musicians come and have shows. In the summer they open the garage glass doors and the first floor space is completely open to the outside, there is still air-conditioning running inside, no worries. I've seen Brazilian jazz. I've seen tango salsa I have even seen the Nutcracker performed on piano. A warm friendly restaurant with 2 levels. I had the pork chop and it was delicious with a choice of sauce which I chose the cherry based on the servers's suggestion and it was amazing. I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was so bad it honestly deserves a warning to anyone considering eating here. First, the owner is one of the most unprofessional and unpleasant people I've ever encountered in any business. From the moment we met there was his attitude--dismissive, rude, and borderline hostile. It felt like I was inconveniencing him just by being there. Any simple question was met with sarcasm or annoyance, which completely killed the atmosphere before the food even arrived. Speaking of atmosphere, the location does this place no favors. It's poorly situated, hard to access, and feels neglected. The surrounding area is pleasant but the restaurant itself doesn't do much to add but is outdated, poorly maintained, and just not somewhere you'd want to spend time or money. Now, the food--easily the biggest disappointment. Everything we ordered was overpriced and underwhelming at best. Portions were small, presentation was sloppy, and the quality didn't come close to justifying the prices. Dishes lacked flavor, tasted like they'd been rushed or reheated, and left us questioning how this place stays in business. You can get far better meals for half the price elsewhere. Between the rude ownership, bad location, and overpriced, low-quality food, this was an all-around terrible experience. Fun night at Roost tonite. We sat upstairs was nice, but prefer the vibe downstairs. Out servers were excellent both our waitress Brielle and the helping staff. Good drinks, had a martini that was very good and a decent glass not one of the micro ones I've been getting. Four of us had for apps fish app was great smoked salmon with some whitefish and extra stuff. I fad the oyster chowder it was excellent and a salad. Next we had the filet., pork chop shrimp dish and grilled calamari. All was good., shrimp very good. Pork and fillet was good, but not great. The calamari was very fishy couldn't eat it. One of our go-to spots! They have the best burger in the area, and I love the crispy potatoes that come on the side. The gem salad is always fresh and enjoyable. The truffle mushroom toast is excellent and decadent. I usually order the salmon, which is consistently perfect -- crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. Outstanding. We got together for a dinner to celebrate friend's birthday. I started with the smoked rooster cocktail, which was very good - more spicy than smokey, but still very tasty. Excellent wine list - it is short and concise, but well appointed and extremely reasonably priced. We settled for the Moroccan Syrah, which was simply superb, both in taste and in value ($42). I started with Maryland Blue Crab soup, which was delicious. For the main dish, while the special of grilled Tuna looked spectacular, I decided on New Zealand venison, which was perfectly cooked, came with super-tasty cherry sauce, and as a bonus, perfectly paired with the Syrah. Delightful dining experience from start to finish. We were seated on the second floor which I highly recommend. The space is contemporary, ceilings are high, tables are nicely spaced and they have a cute little bar dedicated to this level. Oh and the bathrooms were also uber modern and super clean. But the food..... Yum. Our server was super friendly and helpful with suggestions. I started with a cava cocktail aptly named The Roost-this is their version of the Italian classic Aperol Spritz. Balanced and bright. My sister had a vodka cocktail also nice with citrus and herbs. I had the market salad and she had the endive salad. Not adventurous but darn good. The portions are really generous and the salads are tasty and pretty on the plate. We shared the Maine Mussels in a broth with chorizo and jalapeño-wonderful. We split a fish special which was a pan seared black bass with parsnip purée and delicate broccolini. A side of the cauliflower is not to be missed. They also split a glass of cote du Rhône red wine between the two of us upon request since I was driving. The wine was very good and they didn't even blink when I asked to split a glass. The dessert options (donuts, chocolate cake or panna cotta) didn't really speak to us, but we were celebrating a birthday. So we settled on the chocolate cake. I must admit it was delicious. The perfect crunchy exterior with gorgeous texture on the inside-super high quality chocolate-and the fresh whipped cream hit the spot. Sounds pedestrian but it was quite good. Our entire meal was about $155 plus additional for tip, which was quite a value in my opinion. You won't go hungry and the food is really solid. Highly recommend. We live about an hour from this Sparkill establishment but it really has it going on! read more

Went for a birthday dinner, and all started well. Cocktails and appetizers were served in a timely manner and tasty. Then, a pungent and pervasive odor of strong lavender came over our table, and we waited for over an hour for our main dishes. The worst part was the smell in the air, which sadly changed the taste in my mouth and made enjoying my meal difficult once it arrived. It certainly dampened the mood of the evening and I left feeling disappointed. Not sure what happened in the restaurant with the smell, but it was quite unfortunate. My friend and I decided to finally try Roost. We had a reservation at 7:30 and we were running late because it was difficult to find a parking spot. I did call Melissa to let her know that we were a few minutes late and it was fine We certainly went all out- - Drinks, apps, meal and dessert drinks. It was a little bit noisy, however, the fresh and delicious food made up for that! The drinks are made with homemade syrups, and everything was just so fresh. I had the blue crab soup that was out of this world. The sea bass special was delicious and had a crispy crust. My friend got shrimp and plantains, and it was out of this world! The service was a little bit slow, but I think it's because they were taking time to do everything perfectly. And for that I will wait! There are featured artists' works on the walls. The front of the restaurant has those modern clear garage walls. We were seated near the back at a table near the bar. We ordered signature cocktails, which were great! Usually I like to try different cocktails on the menu, but I liked mine so much that I ordered it twice. I had the Road to Morocco. For an appetizer, I had the salmon chowder soup of the day, which I loved. Such a unique flavor for chowder. It was rich and savory! I also sampled the seafood platter. The oysters were super fresh. We wished that the platter came with more dipping sauces. We promptly ran out of the dips. For my entrée, I had steak with chimi churi and a side of broccoli. It was delectable! Third time eating at Roost and it will most likely be my last. The friends we were meeting were already seated when we arrived and had ordered drinks. We ordered shortly after we sat down and waited. And waited. And waited. It took our drinks about 20-30 minutes to come. When they did come, they were delicious. I had the lavender martini. We ordered the bread with everything butter. The bread was very good but the amount of butter they gave was insulting. Not enough for four people to get enough to get a good taste. I had the endive salad and it was one of the best salads I've ever had. For my entree I had the lamb chops with the panko onion rings and cherry mostarda. The onion rings had absolutely zero seasoning. They were very, very bland. The lamb was only ok. Very fatty. For dessert I had the basque cheesecake was very good. The winners were the DPNB spaghetti and the lamb chops - people loved them. Not quite up to par was the pork chop - asked for medium and it looked medium, but was really dry so maybe sitting under a flame for a bit too long. The crab soup was also hit or miss - we had two orders and one was delicious and one was really salty. I tried both! I do like the setting and as I said staff were great. What a swanky and chic establishment! It boasts garage doors which is a very cool aesthetic and actual vibe in the summer. The lay out is just sexy for lack of a better word. The food was superb! My compliments to the chef. The staff was wonderful and the cocktails were quite delicious and refreshing. The wine list is fantastic and I have ZERO complaints. They do it all well. The hostess had the mostess. The double cut pork chop was tender and savory. The salmon was perfect and the artichoke flavor tied in so well. Social distancing isn't an issue because of the layout it's easy for the establishment to distance the patrons in style without creating an eye sore. I'll definitely be back because the lamb entree is on my "to eat" list. Great establishment to get an NYC feel in the Lower Hudson Valley. It's great for birthdays, dates, celebration dinners, popping the question.... perhaps a nice brunch. I just have to share the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant, courtesy of Roost in Sparkill, NY. I ordered the filet mignon, medium rare. It came out clearly overcooked. I took a few bites to see if it was maybe edible because I really don't like complaining, but it wasn't. So I told the waiter the steak is overcooked. He took it to the kitchen and then brought it back to me, cut in half, and said the chef considers this medium rare. They returned the overcooked steak to me and told me to eat it as it is. It was horrible. This "chef" needs to learn what medium rare is. I was appalled. Everyone I was with was appalled. Check out the other reviews about incorrectly cooked steaks, this is a theme at this restaurant. Don't waste your money here. read more
