Our family has always celebrated Christmas Eve at Roost, so choosing it for my daughter's bridal shower this past Saturday was a no-brainer. Maria was so easy to work with. The room has so much natural light, and that coupled with the beautiful artwork just makes it such a unique space. The ability to customize the drink and food menus for our guests was really a big plus. We received so many compliments from our guests about the food, atmosphere, and service. came here for my husbands birthday without a reservation. when we first walked in the restaurant was empty but we were told the only seats available were at the bar. sure enough in an hour the entire restaurant was packed! i didn't realize how popular this place is. definitely be sure to make a reservation. the service and food were both excellent. they have some great appetizers. while i enjoyed my meal overall i was a little underwhelmed by the entrees. their menu is basically a mix and match of meat/fish with various sauces. all of the sauces come on the side, so none of the food is really cooked in sauce. there are a lot of choices though. just my own personal preference is to have a menu with complete dishes already designed by the chef instead of choosing my own combination. read more

I just have to share the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant, courtesy of Roost in Sparkill, NY. I ordered the filet mignon, medium rare. It came out clearly overcooked. I took a few bites to see if it was maybe edible because I really don't like complaining, but it wasn't. So I told the waiter the steak is overcooked. He took it to the kitchen and then brought it back to me, cut in half, and said the chef considers this medium rare. They returned the overcooked steak to me and told me to eat it as it is. It was horrible. This "chef" needs to learn what medium rare is. I was appalled. Everyone I was with was appalled. Check out the other reviews about incorrectly cooked steaks, this is a theme at this restaurant. Don't waste your money here. read more

If I'm going to pay $200 for dinner I want a great glass of wine - not a $10 glass I can find at Applebee's. I have taken a moment and slept on how I feel about my experience at Roost...... my husband and I saw they had burgers on the menu and decided to try them. The meat was too finely ground and flavorless no spicing at all. The potato's while crisp on the outside under cooked on the inside . Dear Chef if you don't care to cook a decent hamburger please don't serve them because sometimes one wants just a good burger and that is not what you will get at Roost . Cute restaurant with interesting farm vibe interior. Overall ambiance is clean and attention to detail is appreciated. Wen with a party of 5 so got to try a few items. Greens market salad and red/white endive salad for apps. Endive was delish - usually bitter but these endives were crunchy and fresh. Recommend this over the market salad. We shared chicken,salmon a special pasta with seafood. Cauliflower and potatoes were the sides we chose. The stars were the chicken and potatoes. Both so crispy and chicken was beyond moist and delicious. Highly recommend the food, everything was very good , portions were a little smaller, but I think it's,perfect for one person, maybe not to share amongst many people, but was a good way to share many dishes. Loved this restaurant!!!! The ambiance is very chic and modern and they have heaters for outdoor seating. The food was phenomenal!!! We shared the calamari app which was so we'll seasoned there wasn't much need for the dipping sauce. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the BUTTERMILK mashed potatoes were ahhmazzzing!!! We also spilt the panna cotta dessert which my husband absolutely loved ( I liked it, didn't love it as much as he did). read more

the food here was not bad. we had a salad and bread service (which you have to pay for), steak (which comes with sides) and some dessert. so why 3 stars? well, 1. the place is a little noisy given that there is nothing to deaden noise and the high ceilings and hardwood floors echo every little sound. 2. while the food was good and the appetizers came out quicky, the main dishes took so long to come out (almost an hour) that we actually got tired.. i'm talking sleepy.. during the wait for the mains. i like that it comes with big side dishes (we ordered 4 different ones so we could all share). for the price, i think you could get a better overall experience elsewhere. or maybe just come for appetizers and drinks. read more

This was our first time at the new location. My wife and I had lunch at the old location several times, and it was excellent (Miss lunch-dinner only now). Every time we have eaten here, Chef Reilly has spoken to us, and made us feel welcome. We ate at the bar this time, and the bartender was amazing, and treated us like we were regulars. I ordered a NY strip steak, medium rare with Au Poivre sauce on the side, and buttermilk mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly, was a large portion, and had no fat on it. Among the best steaks I have ever had. My wife had the Maryland style blue crab soup-again, a large portion and excellent. Also had the basque style cheesecake for dessert with a sour cherry sauce. I came here because it was suggested by work colleagues it is All hype maybe a bar spot ..nice ambiance but Not impressed with our server he was not attentive or engaged he did not have a pleasant or approachable personality Had to ask several times for additional bread The bread and olives appetizer put out are not worth the prices .Bread tasted old and they gave a very small amount for 3 adults. My husband and i just had dinner at Roost and it was wonderful. The service was excellent and the food was outstanding. I had the Caesar salad and the Burger, both of which were just spectacular. My husband had the blackened Bass special which was the best he has ever had. He also had the special Old Fashioned which is his go to favorite. We tried 3 desserts and all were incredible. I will give them 2 stars for accommodating us with a last minute reservation but we will not be back. This place Fell off ! I wouldn't be surprised if Roost was sold to a different owner privately. The food was not what it once was. The drinks were shaken to no end and my husbands martini was completely watered down. Neither of us are big drinkers but we look forward to a solid martini or mixed drink along with a solid meal. Our meals were equally disappointing and not worth the price point. When we mentioned the issue we had with our drinks to our server ,he replied with "all drinks are served shaken as it is their standard policy to do so" and than proceeded to inform us that "most people like there drinks watered down" LOL!!! Def not the experience we were use to having here . We have been to this restaurant multiple times and a significant change was present . We will not be back. Amazing food (Maryland blue crab soup, thick cut bacon, special branzino and Venison) happy to find Non alcoholic beer choices! Excellent wines by the glass for my wife. Perfect desserts (warm Basque cheesecake, buttermilk panna cotta) Chef Kevin Reilly and Maria Santino run an incredibly warm and inviting establishment. The dining room is very comfortable-beautiful bar! You could immediately feel and taste the restaurant pedigree of chef Reilly in his preparation, selection, and execution of his menu. Let's talk honest: Roost is NOT going to be a cheap meal... nor should it be. Don't get me wrong- you can dine alone at the bar with a soup, burger, and a glass of wine, and with a 20% tip spend under $60. A couple can each get a salad, share an entree, have a drink each, and with 20% gratuity spend $90. However, if this is out of your typical price range, save Roost for a special occasion (they don't hike prices or set exclusive menus on holidays). A full couple's dining experience requires a cocktail each from the signature drink menu, two different appetizers, two different entrees, two glasses of wine, and a dessert to share. If you enjoy fresh, chilled shellfish delicacies, Roost has established relationships with the best seafood providers to be found, NYC not excluded; these aren't your average oysters! That said, dinner for 2 easily runs between $160 and $200 before gratuity. However, while clams and oysters are the size that they are, Roost's portions always lean towards generous (don't be afraid to wrap part of your app to save room for the entree). Enjoying Roost requires only one visit- on my first trip I asked my waiter what he recommended from the menu. I eat in many fine dining locations, and I can tell when the waiter is going through the motions, but on this night my waiter laughed and said, "close your eyes and throw a dart at the menu; I guarantee you'll like what it hits." I plied him further, asking for his favorites. He happily obliged, listing at least 1/4 of the menu, but was quick to reassure me that even if he didn't mention something it wasn't a negative remark... and he was right. As i said, to enjoy Roost only requires one visit, but to understand and appreciate it takes multiple trips. Roost offers a large and varied menu, so a meal of Spicy Crab Soup and Smoked Double Cut Berkshire Pork (finished on the charcoal grill) with Cherry Mostarda hits completely different than having a Truffled Goat Cheese Toast with Mushroom Fondue and Shrimp with Tostones style Plantains in a garlic sauce with a touch of chilis. It's experiencing the menu over multiple visits that makes it special. Upon first inspection Roost's menu appears disjointed, but once you experience enough dishes Chef Kevin's culinary dialogue is apparent, and his ability to blend flavors and ingredients across so much diversity in a cognitive, fresh and vibrant manner rivals any Michelin rated restaurant. In a more functional discussion, Roost's physical space is beautiful. The restaurant also acts as an art gallery, rotating collections every couple months (and offering the works for sale). The decor is minimalist chic; a couple in formal attire will feel just as comfortable as a group of friends in more casual clothing. The wait staff is attentive, knowledgeable and friendly, and from my observations appear to know how to adapt to each table's needs. Want your waiter or waitress to joke around? Prefer the staff to give you privacy and only step in when needed? Roost's employees can do either, or anything between. However, if you want to sit and relax over a 4 hour meal, don't book a table on the weekends; the place is jammed, and following COVID, like all other restaurants, they need turnover. Highly recommended. Try some of everything. Take a date or come with a group. Eat as much as possible. Know it's pricey, but you'll get your money's worth. My favorite thing was my entree, the filet with mashed potatoes. The dessert here was a fantastic way to wrap up your meal and I highly recommend the mini donuts. read more

This was my second time visiting this place since the very first experience was pleasant. We were seated right on time, and food was also good. All of sudden, a hair came out in the lobster pasta, so we reported about it to the server. Believe it or not, all we got was "i am on it." She took the dish and came back in a bit, but there was no apology or any further context behind to it - nothing. We raised a red flag saying "isn't an apology the first thing to do?" There the server goes "i am sorry."and left in 0 second. Like we had to beg for it. Later, this server literally dropped dessert menu on our table without even saying anything. What a poor and ignorant service. We wanted to celebrate the year-end, but today's experience totally ruined it. They need some improvements on this. read more

This restaurant really delivers in terms of food quality and service. I usually take out my wife for before her birthday to a fancy restaurant in New York, but with the pandemic, we opted for something a little more local. The Roost was suggested to me by my boss as an excellent option. When we walked in, we were greeted by the hostess, who checked our vaccination cards - you can still dine unvaccinated but you have to keep your masks on. First we ordered a bunch of appetizers: Slab Bacon with Green Apple Mint Slaw, Goat Cheese Stuffed Brioche with Roasted Mushrooms, and Blue Crab Soup which had a little spicy kick to it. First off, the Slab Bacon was so perfectly seasoned, that I wouldn't have known it was bacon, if I wasn't told. The freshness of the slaw complemented the fatty bacon perfectly. Stuffed Cheese Brioche, and who doesn't love cheese, was an epic flavor bomb rounded out with the smokiness of the roasted mushrooms. The Blue Crab Soup was a nicely seasoned crab meat in a thick creamy bowl, with added heat. On to the main course. I had the venison steak medium rare with truffle butter sauce, while my better half had the shrimp with plantains in lemon butter sauce. While the steak was good, and worthy of this restaurant, I still consider best of breed venison to be from Geoffrey Zakarian's Lambs Club in Midtown Manhattan. But the shrimp with plantains is a signature dish here at the Roost. The sauce is made superbly to perfectly complement the flavorful shrimp and the crunch of the plantains. That's something we will order every time we return. We were so satisfied with our meals, that for the first time in many years, we didn't bother ordering dessert - we wanted the flavors to linger for a while. On a side note, we saw a table next to us order the shellfish platter (Crab, Lobster, Oysters, Clams) that was properly cleaned and presented. We will do the shellfish platter next time. read more

If I could give Roost 10 stars, I would. Went here for the first time tonight and... wow. Everything from start to finish was amazing. From the Balthazar bread to the Maryland blue crab soup (delicious) to the lobster spaghetti entree to the flourless chocolate cake dessert (incredible), everything was beyond on point. We sat at the bar and our bartender, Carlos, was great. He made the whole experience very enjoyable on top of the great food and drinks. I still can't believe how great the chocolate cake dessert was. Best flourless chocolate cake I've ever had. If I can give just one piece of constructive criticism- the lobster spaghetti entree. It was delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It fell a little short on the amount of pasta in the dish. Interestingly, it had a generous amount of lobster (and that's the expensive part), but if you just put another 2 or 3 oz of spaghetti (which is the cheap component), it would be a much more substantial entree and be more filling. But all in all, it was still a great dish. I will absolutely be back and if I'm being honest, I would eat here every night if I could. read more
