We were a bit disappointed tonight as a part of a special menu for Valentine's Day. Beet Salad and Buratta were a good start and then it went south. The short ribs (w scallops) were mushy and lacked taste, the lobster risotto was lacking lobster (and watery). The desserts were uneventful. As a matter of fact, the crème brûlée was not "charred" on top and was a bit watery from what seemed like pineapple juice. I'd avoid the "special menu" events, but continue as a regular. Service was ok. I think we were sitting at a card table that was set up to accommodate a more crowded seating. Then the end; a bit overpriced from this event.

Fire and Oak adjoins a hotel in Montvale. There's plenty of parking in their lot and crowds vary. I brought a work group here for a weekday happy hour. The happy hour (4-6) drink menu is a great deal and all cocktails were enjoyed by everyone - martinis, mixed drinks. Regular menu prices here seem steep in places, but comparable in other areas. E.g. entree salads and pizzas are reasonable, but $24 for a fried calamari app seems off The pizzas and sushi rolls were all good. We tried one of each and everyone was happy. I wasn't impressed with the chicken lollipop app as they just tasted like chicken covered with a generic BBQ sauce. They put an automatic 22% gratuity on our bill, which surprised me. Auto gratuities are typical for large groups, but I've never seen one added that's over 18-20%. I would never bring my family here. Not my kind of place, but many in the area like it for the trendiness. Quality of the food was at least good.

My husband and I dined here and had an overall solid meal. The waitress was very friendly and attentive, and the ambiance is clean and modern. It's next to a hotel, so it was fairly busy for a week night. The portions were large, we definitely ordered more than we needed. The spinach artichoke dip and truffle fries were both great starters to share (and we had leftover fries). We also tried the coconut shrimp and avocado roll. I wasn't a fan of this, it had way too much coconut and was overpowering. For my entree, I had the simply grilled salmon. Nothing exciting, but the salmon was perfectly cooked and served with sautéed broccoli.

Second time at a fire and oak and first time at this location. Service was very nice and friendly, food was solid for sure wasn't disappointed at all. I think it's worth trying if you haven't been but wouldn't become a go to spot or somewhere I'd frequent. The lava cake was by far the best thing we got :)

Have you ever found yourself wondering about the term "New American" cuisine? It's a phrase one might have heard in passing, but perhaps you're not quite sure what it calls for. The concept of "New American" cuisine made its debut in the 1980s and is believed to be an evolution from the 1960s "nouvelle cuisine." It marries the farm-to-table movement with a diverse range of ingredients, providing chefs with a canvas for culinary creativity. Attached to the Courtyard Marriott since 2009 off of Chestnut Ridge Road in Montvale, my partner and I decided on dinner at this establishment. The reservation was easily made via OpenTable. Upon entering Fire and Oak as first-timers, we were greeted by the host offering patrons four unique experiences in separate and distinct areas of the restaurant. Just to the left of the bar is the elevated Candle Room. With its soaring high ceilings, the Main Dining Room suggests the views of the gleaming open kitchen. Their Upper Balcony Dining Room renders a magnificent view of the main dining room. The private Oak Room is ideal for business presentations or private social gatherings. We were seated immediately in the Candle Room with a dim, warm, inviting, and upscale/cosmopolitan vibe. Their menu contained an eclectic assortment of high-quality options with steak, fish, chicken, pork, and sushi to meet just about anyone's palate. As a starter, we decided on F&O Mac 'n' Cheese and Slow Braised Meatballs. As our main entree, we opted for Cabernet Braised Short Rib of Beef and BBQ Pork Ribs served with Coleslaw and substituted Sautéed Spinach instead of Fries. The flavors were fresh, unique, and simply amazing. However, we were disappointed in the Mac 'n' Cheese by using some kind of mozzarella cheese, making it bland, dry, and stringy. The dishes were beautifully prepared. The portion was healthy. The price was comparable to the area and worth every penny. The staff are well trained and service-oriented. Our server, Hawkins, was prompt, friendly, professional, and engaging. While touring the restaurant, I exchanged a few words with Patrick, the general manager, and he gave me a tip to take a wonderful picture of the amazing wine bottle room. As the restaurant filled up, it definitely got louder, and we had to talk louder to hear each other. If the above-mentioned New American menu items have left one's mouth watering, there's only one thing to do: visit Fire and Oak, which we can recommend.

Great experience at Fire & Oak. Very busy for a Monday night! We sat at the bar to eat and our bartender was amazing, friendly and attentive but not overly aggressive which we love. We stated with Johnnie Walker on the rocks followed by Châteneuf du Pape. The drinks were sizeable and the wine price point as expected. Where they exceeded my expectations is the lump crab cakes, they were huge and were crab. Unlike places that usually add filler. They served it with amazing French fries and a delicious slaw. Hubby had the hanger steak and a loaded potato which also delicious. I will definitely be back. I hope they still offer the crab cakes as this was on their seasonal menu.

Cool atmosphere and excellent service. ABOVE AND BEYOND! I got a pizza with no cheese and my colleague ordered a cheeseburger w/ sweet potato fries. We both liked it very much. Really cool hang out. Highly recommend. Very convenient too - attached to the Marriott Hotel!

Serious FOOD SAFETY CONCERNS and contamination... My friend ordered a salmon salad, specifically requesting no blue cheese. After two or three bites, she was hit with tons of blue cheese in the greens and coating the bottom of the salmon. We mentioned it to the server, who kindly apologized and quickly took the dish away. A few minutes later, they returned with the salad. I thought the salmon looked odd at first but no one else thought anything of it because why would they? After one bite of the salmon, she found more blue cheese, and said it tasted like they'd run the salmon under water. When we flipped it over, there were still remnants of blue cheese underneath and it was clear they used the same bitten piece. We were all stunned. In my entire life, I've never seen a restaurant at any price point, high and low, make such a critical mistake, then reheat and return the same contaminated food. This raises HUGE contamination concerns for anyone with allergies as it could easily be deadly. All eight of us agreed we'd never witnessed anything like this before. My family and I were deeply upset, since we understand how dangerous food contamination and allergies are as it can truly be a life or death situation. And for a $40 salad (which is already overpriced), not replacing the contaminated food properly and instead Reheating and Re-serving it felt cheap and unsafe. The rest of the meal didn't help. The starters were decent: the calamari was okay, a bit oily, but not bad. The mac and cheese came out warm and was good. The $60 filet mignon was underwhelming as well and tasted okay at best. Out of thirteen or so dishes, none stood out in much of a positive way. We kept thinking that fast food restaurants serve higher quality dishes. The lava cake was underwhelming as well and tasted like something from a children's toy oven. The tiramisu was good but not memorable. All the food seemed like it was made just for looks with the way it tasted. All 8 of us coming in hungry and not have eaten anything for 7+ hours, none of us were excited to take another bite after the first few tastes of eleven out of thirteen dishes. Another thing that caught everyone's attention was the way the champagne was poured. It seemed like they were purposely heavy-pouring each glass, filling them almost to the top so that the very last glass would come up short and they could offer another bottle. Champagne usually isn't poured that full for a toast, so it felt like it could've been intentional, maybe taught by management. We also noticed the utensils looked like they'd just been wiped down, not fully washed. And on the table were the cheap disposable chopsticks which felt really out of place for a "fancy," higher-priced restaurant where a single sushi roll is $20. Simple things like that stand out and really add up with it being one thing after another. Places that charge half the price offer a better dining experience and reusable chopsticks that cost just cents when ordered in bulk. Overall, seems like a cheap restaurant and I would not come here again. Our server himself was fantastic. He was very friendly and was attentive, always checking in with us all and topping off our drinks so no one went thirsty. Again, our server was truly great, very kind nice service on his end. This was purely a kitchen and management mistake. This situation was unacceptable and could have been much more serious. We're lucky it wasn't. Food safety should always be a priority. And honestly, never in my life have I experienced an issue like this.

My go to in Bergen County! Whenever I am back in Bergen County visiting family Fire & Oak is our go to. Everyone needs that easy solid restaurant in their area and Fire & Oak is that for us! The food is always solid and staff is always very friendly. The ambiance is great for a nice dinner out with friends or family. We will keep coming back!

Made reservations for dinner... very pretty place! The restaurant has a warm, intimate atmosphere--perfect for a date night. From the sleek décor to the thoughtfully arranged seating, everything feels upscale yet inviting. It's the kind of place that makes conversation easy and the night feel special. Food was good. Service was attentive.

Lively, crowded bar with a section behind it for high top tables with service. They have another inside dining area to the side. The establishment is connected to the Courtyard Hotel. We tried the salmon mango sushi roll and the pepperoni pizza, but weren't impressed by either unfortunately.

Do you allow byob? How much is the cork fee?

Yes, BYOB is allowed but the cork fee is $40!!!! My family and I went tonight and were horrified by that number lol but it's probably to encourage people to buy drinks in-house!

Do we need to use the prix fixe Valentine Menu ? Or can we just use the regular menu in Valentine's Day?

The ala carte dinner menu will be available at the bar only. We will have the price fix menu available only for the dining rooms.

Do they take reservations for 2 on a Saturday night?

We do! Feel free to call or make reservation via OpenTable!

The tuna tataki was flavorful; however, the taro chips were very thin and tended to break easily when holding the tuna. For our main courses, we ordered the Icelandic cod, rigatoni, Freebird chicken, and a side of whipped potatoes. Dessert was the hazelnut chocolate crunch, which was a nice way to end the meal. Overall, the food was enjoyable. That said, the pricing felt more in line with a fine dining experience, while the atmosphere and service were closer to an upscale casual restaurant. Some small details, such as the whipped potatoes being served without a serving spoon, stood out. While minor, these details can make a difference, especially at this price point.

We started off with a crab cake, their new truffle grilled cheese, and their lobster roll which was a special. The lobster roll, prepared Maine style with caviar on top, was really delicious. The truffle grilled cheese could be skipped if you don't like an overwhelming truffle taste. And I've had better crab cakes but it was by no means bad. For entrees, my party of 3 split everything. We had the lamb chops, the scallops, the duck, butternut squash ravioli, and 2 lobster tail accompaniments along with a side of brussel sprouts. Each thing was better than the next. My favorite dish was actually the ravioli. Very creative flavors. For dessert, we had a toffee cake/pudding, peanut butter mousse, and scoops of brown butter and vanilla ice cream. All in, the bill came out to $445 and we brought our own beer and wine. After a nice 33% tip for exquisite service, I'd actually say this place is a bargain, relative to the quality of food you get, compared to a lot of NYC fine dining restaurants. It's pretty hard to get a reservation. But now that they opened up on Sunday evenings, you might have better luck! I will be back and I hope this review convinces others to try this restaurant. It's truly a gem in north Jersey.

I suggest you head towards the houses, away from town, if you can't find a spot. I've been anxious to try this place as the pictures look solid enough and reviewers thus far seem content. My wife and I entered with plans to have beer and apps. We ended up getting Guinness, onion rings, fried calamari and the Cooper's Burger. You can't beat a 22oz Guinness for $8. The prices on their website also match what you'll see inside. Lately I find so many restaurants are charging more than they advertise online. Service was great, friendly and very attentive. I was also surprised to see how well they clean tables between customers. Spray, wipe table, wipe lamp, shakers, etc. It's totally clean for the next customer. There are only 8 or so tables in here, plus bar seating. We enjoyed some comfy seats at a high top table for two. The onion rings were great - crisp and battered nicely so they hold together. While almost a little overcooked, they were still good and better than I had at the last high end steakhouse I went to. The fried calamari was fairly priced and a good portion. It had a light crispness, though bigger pieces would've been nicer. They were mostly small, but certainly a lot of it. The accompanying marinara was good and plentiful. We got the Cooper's Burger cooked medium and it came out medium. It's a simple burger that comes with lettuce and tomato. Some red onion wouldn't been nice. They charge extra for all sorts of stuff you can get on top - fried mushrooms, fried onions, eggs, etc. It also comes with fries, which were good. Overall, it was a nice cozy time. Several middle aged couples ate here that night and a couple small groups. No loud bar crowds as they're all on central avenue. In fact, I was surprised how nice the acoustics were inside. You can hear people at your table no problem, can hear the music inside at the right level and don't hear a lot of background chatter or noise. I'd most certainly return if in the mood for pub food. And ... No credit card fee!

We had a reservation so did not wait long. It is a popular spot for brunch for sure. The staff are friendly and helpful. But it was so many people, took us some time to get the order. Nevertheless it is good quality food. The tea comes with whole set. You drink as much as you want. Egg Benedict has good runny yolks. Waffle is ok for me. Overall a solid spot for brunch. Most meals came out around 12:30, but one gluten-free order was completely mishandled. One person in our group did not receive their food with the rest of us. We waited over 20 minutes while everyone else ate, and by the time we were finishing, he had only been given a small side of eggs, his main dish (gluten-free French toast) still had not arrived. We asked staff multiple times, politely, and were consistently dismissed. No eye contact, no updates, no urgency. Our server was absent for long periods (10-15 minutes at a time), drinks were empty, and no one took responsibility for fixing the issue. By 1:10 PM, over an hour after being seated, the full order still hadn't come out. At that point, we had no choice but to ask for it to be wrapped to go, since the rest of us had already finished eating. The most concerning part was the manager's response. After calmly explaining the situation, there was no apology, no attempt to correct the experience, and no effort to take accountability. Saying "I'll talk to your server" and leaving it at that is not an acceptable response to a clear service breakdown. This wasn't just a delay, it was a complete lack of coordination, communication, and basic customer service. Mishandling a gluten-free order and then ignoring the table is unacceptable. The food itself was good, but the way this was handled reflects very poorly on the staff and management. I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this location based on this experience.
