Ralph seemed to have an authentic and great passion for food and enjoying life, but me being a jaded and skeptical eater, I guess I didn't fully entertain this recommendation for a while. but in any event, go see ralph if you need a new or used car. he's the man. fast forward about a year later and we finally got a chance to come here during labor day weekend. well, it was definitely the highlight of my weekend. The wait was a little long and yes, it seems there are "insiders" who can skip the line if you will. But I also heard some guy that seemed to have dined here a few times previously and he didn't get to cut the line as he didn't have time to wait, so he left to go somewhere else, so there's that...and paella. i've had a few over the past two years since going to europe and have been disappointed ever since. Not HERE. this is some legitimate paella with some fresh seafood (not that frozen squid and shrimp muck). you have to wait 30 mins or so, but it's worth the wait. trust me. just wait. get a sangria or a pitcher of it. it's decently strong. owner and staff are generally chatty, with lots of locals here it seems. I didn't expect much from the gambas al ajillo appetizer. Why? bc I remember ordering this in spain at a local restaurant and was very disappointed by waiting forever for food to come out and getting a salty mess. but I was wrong here too. They refused to serve me and my party of 3, since my friend who is a refugee from war torn Ukraine has a service dog for PTSS. Evidently, they don't honor NY State licenses for a service dog, since the owner/manager was indifferent to the license presented. I wasn't aware that a restaurant could deny service to someone with a licensed service dog. Reillys Pub was more than happy to serve us, have a section for parties with service dogs, and offer bowls of water to the service dogs. read more

Basque is fun, the food is outstanding and the service is excellent! My husband and I went for the first time with my mother-in- law ( she is very difficult) to celebrate her 92nd birthday. I never saw her so happy and with no complaints! That says it all. We decided to go with tapas so we could taste little of everything and that was the way to go. Gambas la ajillo, pan con tomate, vieiras, croquetas and pulpo a la plancha. All super delicious! My m-i-l had her whole Main course, in addition to the tapas: mariscos in garlic brandy sauce. And she ate the hole thing. Please know that the servings are generous. At the end, the server, J, amazing and fun, brought as a surprise, a flan with a candle. The food was absolutely INCREDIBLE! Bold, delicious flavors. Food was very well seasoned. They had many small shareable plates. We had the octopus which was very flavorful, had a delicious charred flavor and melt in your mouth taste. We also had the potatoes with tomato sauce. The red sauce was delicious and went very well with the crispy potatoes. For our heavy meal we had the Steak Paella. The BEST Paella I have ever tasted. The steak was perfectly bc oiled and seasoned. The chorizo was one of the best tasting chorizos I've had in a long time, it had olives that gave it that little extra saltiness that went perfect with the rice. The paella had chicken as well that mixed with the rice was a perfect bite. We ordered a pitcher of the red sangria which was perfectly balanced, not overpowering sweetness like most are. Very well balanced, refreshing and went perfect with the food we ordered. For dessert we had the creme brûlée cheesecake and it was melt in your mouth with that crunchy caramel topping. Celebrated Father's Day early! We waited for few minutes before we sat down. Authentic Spanish food in the area! The service was excellent, our server was very attentive and pays attention to our needs. Food also came in fast, appetizers were beyond words and came immediately. We had seafood paella for four but it looks like it's good for 10!!! The paella came with different seafoods such as shrimp, squid, mussels, shrimps and clams. We had croquettes, baby squid and scallops. Which are all so good! Place is a bit small but ambiance is good, minus the lady in the bar shouting and yelling. Other than that it was a great night! Also, did I mention about sangria?! We tried the red and white and so far both taste so good but my personal favorite is white! My mom doesn't drink but liked the white sangria, as she mentioned "taste like juice" Our server also pays attention to our needs. It never fails ...From the moment we walk in, we were reminded why we love Basque. The food is consistently delicious, but what truly sets this restaurant apart is the exceptional service. Abdul, our bartender, remembered my name, which made us feel genuinely welcomed and valued. It's those personal touches that create a memorable dining experience. During our meal, we accidentally ordered the wrong paella. We knew it was our mistake and never intended to ask for a replacement. However, the owner overheard our conversation and immediately stepped in to make it right without hesitation. That level of hospitality and customer care is rare and speaks volumes about how they treat their guests. The attention to detail extends to the bar as well. Their Old Fashioned is made the way it should be--with a large ice block that keeps the drink cold without watering it down. As John Taffer often says, "If an Old Fashioned doesn't have a large ice block, they're not paying attention to detail." Basque clearly does. It is just so cozy inside of this restaurant. When reading the other low starred reviews it seems that a common denominator is to complain about the hostess attitude, so I will add mine here. Been greeted poorly sets the tone for the overall experience. No verbal interaction only hand signals, our table was ready and we still waited 5 minutes to be seated while she chatted up people at the bar. I am sure the owners or manager read the reviews so it's clear they do not care, heck traffic was high, place was packed, so who GAF right? The food was below par. The same pimentón was used no mater which of the four small dishes we tasted (they probably buy adobo Goya at the local supermarket). Even the tortilla was bland (equivalent to an Italian restaurant botching their pasta). The place is small, there's parking by the pier but it's very cramped. You also need to walk to the front of the restaurant to get in. Because this place is attached to a very affluent Main Street, there's a lot of foot traffic. Lines out the door are commonplace. But the interior is modern and clean. Our server was very nice and helped with the menu. We got the mussels, but also tuna, chorizo, and meatballs. Star of the show was the tuna. Spicy, fresh, properly seared and the balsamic drizzle gave it the sweet vinegar bite it needed. Well composed dish, enjoyed that one. Girlfriend loved the mussels, the spicy ragu was a good compliment to the meaty mussels. She are almost the entire dish on her own. The meatballs and chorizo were lacking. The chorizo was seared well but had no flavor. Kind of tasted like a generic sausage seared up and cut up. We did not ask for it to be taken off, but the server did so automatically. That's very good customer service in my book. The meatball was dense but the ragu was flavorful. The meat mix was more pork than beef, but still tasty. We walked in at 5:30 PM on a Saturday night and it was packed. We thought we were being early birds LOL. We were told 1 hour + for a table for 2. Luckily two people happened to be leaving the bar when we got there and we snatched those two seats. We came here because we really wanted paella. We ordered a bottle of white wine and put in our order for the paella since we overheard that it takes about 45 minutes to make. While we waited, we had pan con tomate which was delicious. We also had the Pulpo La plancha which sadly was a bit overcooked. Marisco paella was full of great seafood. We were very happy with this dish. This restaurant is SMALL, but full of Spanish flair. We tried the Shrimp in Garlic - best we've ever had. The Patatas Bravas were delicious. We also tried the Manchego with Honey & Balsamic which was fantastic as was the Mariscos Salsa Verde and Jamon Croquettes. Everything was great, including the attentive service. Wonderful meal! Paella and Albarino for the win! As soon as we stepped inside Basque, we felt right at home. It's a small, cozy spot and it felt like we were dining with locals. Our dinner at Basque was delicious, and the service was great. The seafood paella was so good! The portions are pretty generous so make sure to come hungry. We also had the potatoes and my only complaint is that it was smothered in sauce. Empanadas were tasty and the churros con chocolate was next level. LOVED our night out here! Went there on a Wednesday when the open at 5pm. The waiter Dominic was unprofessional and rude. He voiced his displeasure of us requesting to sit away from the bar. He complained out loud and said he has a party of 10 coming at 7pm We were very uncomfortable. We then just ordered 2 drinks & 2 small apps and left. We picked this place for trying out some good tapas and Paellas, and they didn't disappoint. Just quality and sublime food served here. The restaurant is situated in the river banks of Piermont, there's a parking lot, that literally has a pavement deck into the river. The restaurant is small, but has a nice bar and comfortable ambiance. The menu has nice collection of tapas, few Paellas , entrees, salad and soup. Lots of wine and drinks are also served here. We got the filet mignon and lamb chop tapas to start. They were prepared so well. Perfect temperature, tender meat, dishes made with complimenting vegetables. We ordered the seafood Paella for four. It takes about 25 minutes to prepare, so let them know asap. It was a massive, full of mussels, shrimps, clamps, scallops and baby squids. All served on top of yummy yellow rice. Four grown ups combined, we managed to finish only half of the plate, rest we took home and over next couple of days. It was still very delicious. We ended our lunch with Flan, that was sweet and soft. Overall we loved the food. But the service was little spotty, as we saw only one server attending all the tables. It was little overwhelming for the person, working in a full house shift. I also didn't like the fact they charged for every soda refill, even though the glass holds least than half a can soda, filled with ice. I'd give this place 6 stars were that possible. Everything is jaw-droppingly delicious, and we couldn't believe the amount of food we consumed in one sitting - my husband finished the entire plate of lamb chops, on top of eating 5 other tapas. This place is very popular, hence always crowded, and they don't take reservation for parties under 6. All servers are good-looking men :-) but super friendly and attentive. Basque Tapas Bar first came to my attention about a month ago when I was in Tarrytown - they have a location in the village and since I'm a fan of tapas I bookmarked it. Some time later I was talking to my friend Mercedes C about Basque - she mentioned she had been to their original location Piermont and had great things to say. I was in the area for another engagement with one of my friends and we were looking to grab some food beforehand - a Yelp search resulted in the Piermont Basque popping up a mere few miles away, so we made plans to stop by here for an early Sunday dinner. Basque is located in Piermont right on the Hudson River. The restaurant isn't large - walking in you're immediately greeted by the bar area with seating and a few tables, along with additional tables in the back. The restaurant is modestly decorated - mostly wood tables with clean lines. As the name suggests, the menu is mostly composed of tapas. Additionally, they have a selection paellas, charcuterie boards, and larger dishes; we wanted tapas, so I focused my attention there. They had a good selection of proteins, veg, and starches. We decided to go with four: ham croquettes, spicy filet mignon, garlic shrimp, and the empanadas. Additionally, we decided to get a cheeseboard, because cheese. Everything was really tasty - the filet mignon was a standout, but the winner for me was the garlic shrimp. Lots of plump shrimp in a tasty sauce topped with LOTS of garlic. I love garlic and too much is never enough - I was living my best life. The cheeseboard was also good - it was a generous helping of cheese paired with sweet jelly to cut the sharpness and little breadsticks for that carbohydrate touch. For dessert we shared two: the piña colada cheesecake and the warm apple galette. These were okay - the cheesecake didn't have enough flavor and the galette wasn't the easiest thing to maneuver (the pastry was too stretchy and hard to break). I wouldn't come here for the dessert. Service was good, food came out super fast and everyone was friendly. Overall, I really had a great time at Basque; even though I wasn't a fan of the desserts, the strength of their tapas made up for it. I would have to qualms returning, and definitely want to check out their Tarrytown location soon. read more

We came on Easter Sunday for dinner hoping we'd get a table (they don't take reservations for smaller parties). It was our lucky day! We got seated fairly quickly and within minutes a nice pitcher of sangria and ham/cheese platter were on our table. Then we ordered the sardines wrapped in endive (Boquerones), and the pulpo al a plancha (grilled octopus). Both delicious choices. For our meal we split the seafood paella and the skirt steak. The paella was very nice, and my dad commented that the steak was "T & T" - Tasty and Tender. Big compliment coming from Mr Picky!! We ended the meal with the Pistachio Tartuffo (quite good) and the churros (2 out of 4 liked them. The other 2 thought they were too hard/tough). Ever since I returned from Spain, I've been craving real Spanish tapas. Decided to come splurge for my birthday. So happy to have been recommended this restaurant by a friend! I got a glass of pinot grigio and they gave us a basket of nice bread. I wanted so many things off the menu, and decided on the pulpo a la gallega, manchego frito, gambas al ajillo, jamon iberico, patatas bravas, and albondigas picante. The favorite was the fried manchego - the dish was sweet, salty, soft, and crispy - everything you could want all at once. The octopus, shrimp, jamon meatballs were also great. Meatballs were definitely spicy but addictive. Our least favorite was the patatas bravas, which I felt were not crispy enough and the chunks were a little too big. We did end up with a few leftovers (potatoes, meatballs). Both desserts were amazing - the creme brulee topping was a perfect contrast to the soft cheesecake and I'm always a sucker for flan. We got there just when it opened (they don't take reservations) and were able to be seated right away - the tables filled up pretty quickly after that since the restaurant is pretty small. The food came out like rapid fire - they brought out 2 tapas at a time. It was a little fast-paced for us, trying to finish the food to make room on the little table but it was impressive. We didn't really mind, though - we tend to eat on the faster side. This will be my go-to spot for Spanish tapas when I am missing Spain. My only complaint is that we were seated right by the bathroom and it had a strong chemical smell. read more

This was a fun and relaxing experience. Met up with close friends who live in Rockland County and went to the first of two locations in Piermont and loved it. We decided to try this location and cannot say enough good things about them. Everyone their takes a tremendous amount of pride in their work. The restaurant is super clean, genuinely friendly staff, they work well as a team, great food, fair prices, great wine list with really good prices, good size portions, most dishes are shareable, great selection, fresh quality food that comes out at the right temperature, great decor, comfortable seating, nice bar and most of all you are not rushed. Whew! That was a lot to say to some things up. They offer Tapas, soups, salads, main courses that are shareable and can be prepared for up to 6 people. They also offer cheese boards and of course desert. Unless you are a party of 6 or more be prepared to wait as they do not take reservations for 1 to 5 people. It's worth the wait. Just check the hours of operation as they close around 10 or 10:30 pm depending on location so you want to leave enough time to relax and enjoy the experience. We were seated around 7 pm, were not pushed out and left after 10:30 pm which was very nice of the staff. We were having a great time and did not even realize it was so late. There were four of us and we shared all the dishes. We also shared a bottle of wine 2018 Martin Lac Crianz. Yet another review I hate to write because it's like telling the world about yet another absolutely amazing place that's going to be bursting at the seams with people ... however, it's nearly impossible to understate how good the food is here at this unassuming little place in an unassuming little NY state town by the Hudson. The food in general is legit amazing and high quality on all levels. Even the salads are fresh, delicious and memorable. But let's get to the real stars of this place .. which includes the amazing sangrias, awesome tapas with the shrimp garlic that sits upon the pantheon of great shrimp garlic dishes. The flavor of that is absolutely amazing and is the perfect compliment to their lovely bread. The paella is also pretty awesome on all levels - it's savory, tasty, inviting and the seafood just stands out in the best of ways. I guess if you had to pick something bad to say, maybe the parking lot is small and the place doesn't have enough seats? But beyond that, I cannot stress how good the food is here. It's worth the schlep from wherever your are to get here if you want high quality Spanish food. Oh and the flan will blow your mind. I still keep thinking of it all the time in all of its perfection. There've been times when we're home lounging and if we had the itch to drive down an hour to the West Village just to have Spanish food, we'd go to Sevilla ASAP- as they've been our blueprint for terrific Paella, Sangria, etc. But when hubs was in the Piermont area in the Summer of '21 driving by one day, we had to give Basque a try and see how this Spanish restaurant compares to our NYC fave. Basque has an eye-grabbing long bar, several tables up front and a back dining room with plenty more seating. We've brought my Mom on one occasion, brought my auntie-in-law on another and the others, have been hubs and I for lunch or dinner. What keeps us coming back for more since that very first time, is their enticing Spanish food- especially their Paella. You see, you can't get a Paella from a Mexican spot the way many of them offer, or South American- hell, I've been to Dominican restaurants listing Paella on their menu. Just no. It's gotta be Spanish and Basque, is it. While other Spanish restaurants top their Paella with a lobster, Basque doesn't (regional?)- but it's delicious. The substantial size and price are delicious too. Paella (for 2) here is $48 (a $2 jump from what it used to be) which is more than fair- compared to another restaurant in Chappaqua that charges an arm and a leg. Service continues to be incredible from everyone here- especially from one manager who's smooth, delivers niceness all around and always in tune with Basque's vibe. read more
