My friend and I decided to tried this place one evening. The restaurant did not take reservations. We got there around 7 PM on a Friday night and the wait was about an hour to get a table but we really wanted to try the food here so we waited. Fortunately, two bar seats opened up in just about 15 minutes into our an hour wait. We took the bar seats and we were delighted. I ordered a margarita, it was strong but goes really well with the tapas. The white sangria looks yummy, I'll try it next time. The tapas is a good size portion. The Puntas de Filet Mignon Picante was tender and flavorful. We ordered the sea bass with salsa, clams, and shrimp to share and a side of sautéed garlic & spinach. Found this place on Yelp n thought we'd try the restaurant. Always looking for different cuisines. They don't take reservations. Called them when we were on our way n they said there wasn't a wait. Got there half hour later n the wait was 60-90 mins. They took our name on a piece of paper n said check every so often. No waitlist or text reminders. Can't imagine that in this day n age. The reason was they r way too busy n no time for that. Anyway it was 3 of us n one of us would wait in the restaurant while the other two just roam around the area n downtown Piermont. Parking is very hard to find. It's Street parking. There were empty tables n people waiting but the tables were not filled. Not sure why. Anyway once our time was up we were really hungry waiting for 90 mins in the hot humid drizzly weather. We ordered the endives boquerones, ( anchovies) patatas bravas, vieras rellanas ( mixed seafood In scallop shell) pulpo ala planca ( octopus) manchego Frita n the mixed salad for appetizers. They were all small portions just enough for 3 people to share n delicious. For entree we got the paella mar y Tierra ( surf and turf) which was really good n generous portions w lobster n steak. The steak was tender n juicy. And also we had the lubina el salsa de tomato picante - sea bass w shrimp n mussels . That was so yummy n generous amounts of shrimp n mussels. We finished our meal w flan ( passion fruit) although I did not taste passion fruit, San Sebastián cheese cake ( crème brûlée cheese cake) and tarts Santiago ( st James almond tart) . Deserts were pretty good. Except the paella which my son was eyeing to take home the LO's there was nothing else left. Lovely tapas spot in Piermont with warm vibe and many locals. The portions are slightly larger than what I expected from tapas, and were priced closer to appetizers than tapas (and rightly so). I just miss the Spain experience where tapas are smaller, priced less so you can pick a bunch more - though I rarely see that on this side of the Atlantic. We went with the Chorizo and Chipirones Plancha and enjoyed both. Unfortunately, I couldn't eat the bread which I was told is the best part. We were so tempted to get a paella (selections look great) but settled for protein. The Churrasco con Pimiento y Cebolla (skirt steak( was tasty and well-seasoned. The only thing I didn't like was the Julianne fries (basically julienned potatoes) which would've been great as a snack but not to complement a steak as a starch (maybe I'm just bitter I can't have bread ;)) Beverage menu curated fittingly for the menu - with a good selection of entry and mid-tier Spanish wines. We had a really fantastic first meal here on Sunday. We were a group of four (3 adults, one child) and arrived shortly after the 1 PM opening and many tables were already taken, and the food aromas were incredible-a good sign! The interior is intimate but not cramped, with space in Piermont being at a premium. Overall, we had a great experience with food and service and would return. The restaurant itself is not so fancy that you absolutely must dress up, and I also consider it child friendly for well behaved children, considering we had a six year old with us. Food ordered: * Albondigas picante (spicy meatballs)-These were on point with flavor and spice. The meatballs and the sauce were delicious and great for dipping bread into. * Pulpo a la plancha (my personal choice since I love octopus)-I don't know what's in Galician seasoning, but this dish was outstanding. The octopus was incredibly tender and I don't think I've ever had octopus cooked that well. It was a flavorful and fun dish. * Vieiras rellenas (stuffed scallop shells)-These were good but let's not kid ourselves, the thick slice of Applewood bacon was the star. The filling was good but a bit too much breadcrumb flavor for my personal taste. I felt it overpowered the seafood. * Gambas al ajillo (shrimp in garlic sauce)-This was probably my favorite dish, tied with the octopus. The shrimp was very well seasoned and flavorful and cooked well. * Croquetas del dia (croquettes of the day)-These were fine, I don't recall the specific variety offered that day but they were fried and crispy on the outside, and creamy on the inside. I thought they could have used a bit more seasoning but the sauce on the side (mayo-based, aioli perhaps?) went well with them. * Marisco paella for two (seafood paella)- The portion is incredibly generous for 2, and considering all the other dishes the 4 of us had previously, we managed to get through maybe a third of the skillet. I'm not the biggest fan of the texture/appearance of mussels and clams, which this dish is generous with, so this wasn't my choice, but I enjoyed the other seafood and the rice itself was flavorful. However, I was looking for the crispy bottom and though some of the rice was a bit toothsome, I missed the crispiness that paella is famous for. There were several scallops and shrimp and a few scant pieces of squid that were devoured.   We were completely stuffed so of course, had to order dessert. I chose the churros con chocolate, which were thinner and more crispy and less chewy than any churros I've had previously. They were delicious and I really enjoyed the texture and the sauce that came with them. My MIL chose the apple galette, which similarly was well made, flavorful, and incredibly delicious. I had a glass of rose sangria that was fine. I usually drink and serve sangria cold and there were a few ice cubes but the drink was room temperature. I sometimes make sangria at home and it was no better than any that I've made, minus a point because it was warm. I had a pineapple mimosa after that, which was good.   Overall, my personal favorite dishes were the octopus; shrimp; meatballs; and the churros. The food came out quickly, the service was attentive, refills were offered, clean plates were given for the paella, and overall, we had a great meal and experience. read more

Benny the Basque Man is doing a superb job. When I step into Basque, it brings me back to my past of enjoying a bite and a drink in a comforting, tiny West Village restaurant. The atmosphere is lively and more hip than other locations near by, although I don't know where they're all from having lived here for many years and rarely seeing such a "city" crowd.(maybe from the new influx during Covid?). Drinks are tasteful and if one decides to sit at a table, the servers are professional (most having been at Basque since it opened) and the tapas offered here gives one a variety of tasty Mediterranean small plates. If you're being super Covid careful, I don't recommend this restaurant right now. Come back at a later date when hopefully circumstances have changed, and my words aren't those from a broken record. The food and ambience here were good just the like other location I've been to. It was a very crowded night and we had to wait for a table - totally fine. We called ahead and were told one time, got there, were given a slightly longer time -makes sense. Then someone walked in after us, were given the same wait and they said "oh we called ahead" and the host immediately sat them. But there were "no tables" and they don't take reservations, which is why we didn't make one when we called, and if they were willing to take reservations over the phone why didn't they offer one to us when we called ahead ? This basically just continued to happen all night. The host saved seats at the bars for his friends and let them save seats for their friends - one seat at the bar stood open for 20 minutes while no one was allowed to sit in it until this guys friend got there. We got the patatas bravas and chipirones plancha for starters. They came out super fast and were so tasty! The potatoes were so perfectly cooked and seasoned. Their sangria was also great, and they make it delicious and strong! The best part of the meal was definitely the flan! I would keep coming back just for that. It's the best mix of flavors in a dessert anyone could ask for. Where they lose one star for me is the paella marisco.
