Went for brunch, we were greeted and sat relatively quickly. The atmosphere is very chic yet relaxed. The large windows to look out to the Hudson not only let in a lot of natural light but gave a more relaxing dining experience. I got my burger medium rare and while it came out closer to medium/medium well it was still plenty flavorful. The grilled bavette was cooked to medium rare and had a good serving of chimichuri. It was a bit more oily than expected but otherwise delicious. read more

genuinely enjoyed my experience doing brunch here; the view is beautiful and the place is classy without being overly formal. service (which i noticed was a pain point for a good chunk of reviews) was lovely: staff was attentive but not overbearing, and our main server (renato) was friendly and accommodating. food was all good -- between the two of us, we ordered the onion soup gratinee to start, the katsu chicken and biscuits and the duck and roasted potato hash as our mains, and finished off with a classic crème brûlée. onion soup was nicely light while still well-seasoned. i had the duck and hash -- duck was wonderfully crispy without tipping over into burnt territory, and the hash with the poached egg was delicious. crème brûlée was a classic but performed as a perfect end to a good meal. read more

So I was here for the first time a few weeks back for my Wife's Birthday..With the exception of our Server Jhonny and the food being very good, I did not give it a very positive review. After thinking about it for a while, feeling I was harsh, and being very kindly invited back by the Food and Beverage Manager Mr. Donnan Sutherland, We decided to give this beautiful restaurant a second chance for our anniversary. On September 5th, We returned...TOTALLY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE!! I'm positive now, that the first experience was a fluke, a combination of misunderstandings, and more then likely, an "off night"..not just on their part, but mine as well. We pull in and were greated by a friendly Professional Valet ( who later took a beautiful picture of my Wife and I with the Stunning view as a back drop) ( I regret forgetting his name ), We walked in and were greated by a lovely Hostess named Corin who saw us to the bar for a few pre dinner cocktails. While at the bar we were served by two very kind bartenders named Sandi and Marie (I think..Apologies if I remember incorrectly) the Manager Mr. Sutherland must have been made of our presence and made his way to the bar to meet us. Mr. Sutherland was kind enough to give us a tour of the grounds including the old chapel, the Koi pond, the wine cellar and more...including sharing the estate's history with us and exposing us to the amazing cocktail menu that was not only personally themed and curated by him, but that also was adorned with artwork that was hand done by him. We were seated for dinner and were lucky enough to be served again by Jhonny. Im gonna shorten this up and skip food details and description simply because the pics say more then I can ever express!!! 10 out of 10, Perfect and Delicious. The only bad part is we found out that this beautiful night was Donnan Sutherland's last night employeed by the Abbey in and Apropos Restaurant, as he has been stolen by another great Inn / Restaurant in Beacon New York...Sad to lose him but I completely understand why the best Restaurants in the Hudson Valley are fighting over him...and to show us the hospitality that he did in a place were he was not even going to be connected to in just mere hours..Wow! Speaks volumes about his passion, integrity, professionalism, and Character. Im so happy Mr. Sutherland invited us back and happy we accepted. This place, its food, its history, and it's people, are VERY SPECIAL. We will be back. Treat yourself and and do not miss this gem hiding on the top of a mountain right in Peekskill. My wife and I came here for my birthday dinner and, at first, it felt like it was going to be a great experience. We had a 6 PM reservation, so the restaurant wasn't crowded at all. The space itself is spectacular, and the views are absolutely magnificent; definitely a beautiful way to start the evening. We were seated immediately, which was appreciated. Unfortunately, the service felt a little off throughout the night. The servers did their job, but they weren't particularly attentive or especially friendly, which took away from the overall experience. We both ordered the three-course meal from the Cherry Blossom Spring Menu. My wife had a non-alcoholic drink that she loved, while I ordered the Blueskin's Bounce, a rye cocktail with cherry liqueur. My drink was just okay. For her meal, she ordered the local burrata, the Chilean sea bass, and the black sesame cheesecake. She really enjoyed the sea bass, but the cheesecake was disappointing. I had the tuna crudo, the cherry-glazed duck breast, and the cherry blossom panna cotta. Unfortunately, the duck was extremely tough, almost impossible to cut or chew, and the panna cotta was bland and forgettable. Overall, despite the stunning atmosphere and views, the food and service did not live up to expectations, especially for a birthday dinner. Sadly, I wouldn't return. read more

(4.5 stars) Can't tell you how many times I've driven back and forth from Westchester to the HRV and wondered what that neat building up on the hill was. Now I know! Went here for brunch with a few friends, and thought it was excellent. I'm not a big French toast eater, but they made theirs with cornbread and I was so intrigued I had to try it. Excellent. Definitely filling! Came with fresh fruit as well. Others ordered egg varieties -- omelet, another egg dish, and our other friend joined me in the French toast. Coffee was excellent, decor was lovely and our server and everyone we encountered couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Can't wait to go back here for dinner! read more

I wish I liked the food here. Been a few times and disappointed every time. The fettuccine with clams tasted like buttered noodles with steamed clams. Others had the hamburger, they weren't too thrilled with it. Next time we tried lunch. I had the turkey club. Menu said it had Avocado in it but couldn't find even a small piece in the entire sandwich. My hand was coated with grease as it was dripping from the bread. Now for the French fries. How can you screw up fries. Well this place can. They were so over cooked it was like chewing on sticks. I am local to this place and probably not going back anytime soon. read more

I swear this is true: when my fiancé pointed out that her chateaubriand was overdone our server said "I'm sorry" and then simply walked away. No attempt to make it right, we didn't hear from a manager. Funniest example of bad service I have encountered in a really long time. We were at this spot for a New Year's Eve prix fixe dinner and despite the fact that the menu offerings looked very good , the food was not up to par. The potato leek soup was so under seasoned that it was essentially flavorless. The trick about a potato leek soup is that it should have some degree of salt and pepper. I had the duck and it was decent but the skin was not crisp and the aforementioned steak was overdone, but it was nice to know that the server was at least sorry. We ordered a bottle of wine and made the best of it. We met a nice couple when we mentioned that the gentleman's steak looked like it was cooked medium rare and when he heard us he offered "yeah but it sucked". The restaurant was clearly understaffed as there was one server in the rear dining room and nobody has apparently bothered to explain that when someone says that their steak is overdone the food should be removed and replaced with something approaching what was ordered. read more

I had wanted to come here for some time for dinner. I was going to an event in the area and decided to stop here for dinner on my way. I'm so glad I came here for dinner. Unfortunately, the property is kind of confusing to find your way. I found a parking spot; although, most of the spots are for valet. There were multiple people in the parking lot who asked me where they could go to find "the wedding," the restaurant, etc. My sister and I made dinner reservations at 6:00 PM on a Friday. When we parked and walked on to the property, there was no signage, but we had been here before so we knew where to go. We walked through a wedding, because that was the only way to enter the restaurant. I wish there was better signage or a more convenient entry way so we didn't disturb the wedding. We had to walk through the aisles in order to enter the restaurant. When we got inside, there was one other party seated. We had a great scenic view and were right in the window. We ordered the pork and steak, and they were both delicious. I had the pork roast and mashed potatoes. It was very fresh and juicy; I would definitely order this again. I highly recommend this spot, if you're in the area. read more

Took my mom here for mother's day, the grounds and the view were stunning. The food was solid we shared the duck confit and the fig and prosciutto flatbread as an appetizer. What i didn't like was the duck dish was cold. For entrees my mom had the lobster scallop pasta, she commented that this is the first time she has ever had more lobster than pasta in a dish! Safe to say she loved it. My step dad had the burger and he liked it. My husband had the shakshuka, he didn't like it. He felt it was watery and under seasoned. I had the cornbread french toast.. it just tasted like a slice of cornbread to me lol. The server was attentive and friendly. All in all it was fine but i don't see myself returning. read more

I came here for dinner with my husband and sister in law. She lives in the apartments next the Abbey, so we walked over. It was beautifully decorated with lights and looked stunning at night. I had wanted to order the sea bass but the waiter came back and told me they were out. So, my husband and I both ordered the salmon and my SIL ordered the duck. They brought rolls and butter out before our meals. The salmon was delicious! Perfectly cooked. My SIL ordered the panna cotta for dessert. Our bill for the 3 of us was $220. I used the lady's room and it's very nicely decorated. Very clean. Most of the restaurant was empty when we went. Outside is a gorgeous view! It's a great place to have a drink and relax. I would definitely go back again. Hopefully they'll have the sea bass available next time. read more

What a special Birthday dinner for my wife . This place is so beautiful sits on top of the mountain over looking the hudson , To my surprise this is a Chef Peter Kelly restaurant and he came out to us to say hello . Great farm to table menu with a beautiful setting inside and out Started with scallops on puree of cauliflower was so tender and creamy We shared a dish of fresh pappardelle with 4 cheese sauce with rapini . Pasta al dente like i like. Sauce cheesy and creamy I ordered a grilled NY sirloin with warm potato chips , meat was perfect temperature and nice and grilled charred . Chips so crunchy and tender Wife ordered pork rack chop. Huge chop super tender with creamy polenta. She lived it couldn't finish it was huge. Valet parking , beautiful grounds, warm and inviting inside. Staff top notch and very caring. It's not cheap but you get what you pay. This is a must try. read more

Much like the Abbey Inn, Apropos Restaurant promises luxury but under delivers. The restaurant is beautiful and the food is very good, but I wouldn't say Michelin recommended quality. We had a reservation at 6pm and service was great, but once they got busier around 7pm service became very slow. My mom's bronzino was good, but the fish was grey and did not look appetizing. My pork was juicy and delicious. We got our anchovies on the side of the salad because my mom does not like them. I was shocked when a measly two anchovies presented to us. The pannacotta was very good, but the almond cake was quite dry. read more

So I don't know everybody loves this place yeah it's pretty outside and you look at the Hudson River and it's nice with the lights in the Avions but it has Nats just like any place else. I'm really not blown away with the food at all. The piece of fish was skinny at the end. You could see in a photo and it looks like a tail. I don't know that they said the appetizer for the jumbo shrimp. There was two of them and they were flat and they were shrunk so they weren't a jumbo medium size the most. The shrimp was good although the butter for the bread tasted weird like it's been out too long not to mention it was very mushy. Very expensive not worth the money. read more

The Abby and Apropos is so unbelievably beautiful. What a gorgeous space and grounds. The food was very good! We had the HVRW lunch. While I didn't care much for the pasta app, the salad with goat cheese was solid, if not predictable. For mains my friend had the chicken which was outstanding. What flavor! I had the shrimp/scallops and it was truly delicious. Chef has a way with sauces. Dessert was the creme brûlée, delicious could have been a bit warmer. Almond cake with blueberry compote for my friend-she nearly swooned! Definitely a 'special occasion' place, but the entire experience is a must-do. read more

I have been here several times and couldn't wait to try the brunch. Went here with my daughter and a friend for my birthday and my friend's birthday after a spa experience in the same facility. I can honestly say I will never eat here again. My daughter's food had hair in it. My food had hair in it and I complained and sent it back and they brought me a new dish. I ate that and was just finishing that up and I found yet another hair in my food. I couldn't wait to get out of there. They complimented my meal. We were given cake, but I'm not sure if that was for our birthday or if they try to accommodate our birthdays? They never said. I told them when they set that down that I did not want to eat anymore of their food. the manager came over a few times and I was upfront and told them I will never eat there again. She told me the kitchen staff was bald. So you have a bigger problem and need to figure that out! Do you want to know about the ants in the windowsill? Our table was next to the windows and you could visibly see ants. I told the same head manager, and she informed me that there are ants this time of year. But I don't understand why they would have their tables next to the windows if there are ants because the ants can go on the table.. She was not concerned I will never eat here again. read more

Can not believe this is a Michelin rated restaurant. Service is okay, friendly and the location is wonderful. . . But we found the food to be good, locally sourced, but not, in our opinion, Michelin special. Their acclaimed Lamb Ragu Pappardelle is fresh and very well prepared, but the sauce feels a bit heavy for my taste. Same with the lamb chops; they were well prepared (tender and excellent flavor) but again in a heavy sauce. Maybe that is their signature style and if that is to your taste, then you will love it. Really enjoyed the drinks, we started at the bar and Belle was very accommodating to any modifications we wanted, but the prepared cocktails are quite delicious. Overall we enjoyed the place a lot and added to our experience by staying at The Abbey. Nice romantic weekend. read more

The place is lovely. The food took way-way-way too long to get to the table. Well over an hour between apps and entrees. We were literally waiting for our bill to walk out when the food finally arrived. The waiter made himself sparse and never apologized for the wait or offered to check on it. He just left us to wait and wait - we ran out of water and still never saw the guy. He never stopped by and asked if we needed anything after the food was delivered. I had to hunt someone down to get salt. The waiter finally came by to see if we wanted dessert. Since we didn't want to wait another hour we called it a night. The food was good but until they get it together we won't be rushing back. A real shame. read more

Now, pretty okay. tuna tartar still good ceasar salad still good sorbet really good home made ravioli - dried out edges, maybe too much time under broiler sea bream - fish itself good, sauce good, very rich and salty.... "melted" leeks was just a piece of leek chopped up on top of the fish... shrimp in the sauce was plentiful but rubbery. Would we go back? Still great location, staff, ambience. But for the price you expect at least no flaws in freshness and preparation. read more

Located on what looks like a hilltop from the Taconic State Pkwy, Apropos (part of the Abbey Inn & Spa) in Peekskill, served up a small- but good Valentine's Day menu with global touches for me and my boo. While Apropos isn't your common "cozy" restaurant, if you like going for the sunset, river view and a mountain backdrop, this is your place. Make sure you have your mask on (and not as a chin-guard)+Vax proof+ID ready. One lumberjack was told very calmly he will not be seated without one and lethargically exited the restaurant to get one while his wife waited for him indoors. (Witnessed it). Our salad starters were good. While hubs is a mustard eater, he'd said his Caesar had too much of it. My Roasted Beet salad was scrumptious and wished I had more. Our 2nd pasta course was good (again, mine was better than my husband's). He enjoyed his Squash Risotto, but said it was too small. My Mushroom Ravioli with cream and balsamic drizzle was very tasty. My Cauliflower "Steak" on farro with vine tomatoes was very tasty as my 3rd main course. Hubs liked his 'crispy' chicken but it was more roasted than anything and...small. Dessert options for our 4th course were varied and glad they had at least 2 chocolate plates to pick from the 4 listed. Food wasn't horrible- it was very good in fact and our server Jhonny, was polite taking the time to explain the menu. Cocktail ingredients looked wholesome- but the two we had, missed on strength. So is the menu French? Italian? or Mediterranean? Or is it somewhere between farm AND table? What do I mean by that? You can taste the freshness from the farm and presentation on the table was nice. The interval between the very small courses was slow- so much so, as much as hubs and I got the conversation going, we also ended up whipping out our phones. And I get it, my husband I weren't trying to rush through Valentine's dinner- but I can see if each table is made to order and it's not- it's a fixed menu so they should have a specific amount of each item- as opposed to making anything new. Unless I missed something. For the $80 price point, 4-course menu, I also get it: it's Valentine's and prices are jacked up- ingredients were very good though. I actually thought a glass of Bubbly would be included. No. If I start factoring the dollar amount of my items and my husband's, I can't see dessert costing $20, a small....very small Caesar salad $20, etc. Or the other way around where my main plate would cost $30+ just for vegetables and the rest of the $50 is spread out between appetizer+pasta plate+ dessert. I certainly would like to try them again for dinner....not Valentine's dinner. But it's the location, the ambience and the sunset. read more

First time visiting the Inn and first time to restaurant. A birthday party and a wedding in progress so we give everyone a break... Setting = 5 star. Old stone, brick and wood, original to this 1902 property. Simply stunning every way with views up and down the Hudson River Food = 5 star. Both my appetizer and entree were amazing. Tuna and sea urchin crudo and a bone-in veal chop. Communication with kitchen - not so good. Asked not to bring out entree until I said so, and got it two minutes after appetizer. Couple across from me got their entrees before the appetizer plates were cleared. This with three tables in the place, as a result of them smartly limiting reservations. Makes me wonder about a full weekend dinner. Service - 4 star. Have to be on top of timing and table service. Certainly friendly and apologetic about timing. Availability- maybe its Covid - but closed after brunch on Sunday, closed all day Monday and only lunch on Fri-Sun. Breakfast is a to-go bag weekdays except Friday. This is tough on guests, like us, there for a week, as we need to travel off the hill for food. First world problem for sure, but be nice to enjoy lunch on property. Corkage $35, with comprehensive but above average prices at 3-4x retail. read more

I've been hoping to try this place since it opened and I feel this was completely worth the wait. Now, I want to go every week.... I started with the bone marrow appetizer, which was served with a bone marrow spoon. I usually like marrow straight up, but the way it was made was with a sprinkling of cheese and seasoning; it was unbelievably excellent. The texture of the cooked cheese balanced perfectly with the texture of the marrow. I had the Arctic char (salmon) as the fish special over greens. It was cooked perfectly. The skin was crisp and able to be cut with a fork and the meat of the char was tender and smooth, not fishy at all for a salmon. For dessert, we had the gelato sampler, the Olive oil cake, and the rolled oat crumble. While each dessert was outstanding, the olive oil cake really stood out as the flagship. It was topped with espresso gelato. Service from Jhonny, our waiter, was friendly and well-paced. We were not rushed and we never felt we had to go find him. The entire menu was impressive and it really showed how much love the chef put into the menu choices. They provide bread service upon request, which is great. It's a shame so many restaurants waste food that is served to people who don't want it. The cocktail list was creative and the beer and wine list were outstanding. Ommegang caught my eye, as did Leffe and some other excellent beers. The best thing about this place, besides the excellent food and service, is the setting. Atop a cliff overlooking the Hudson River, facing south, any table in our room had a stunning view. Try to get there before sunset. Walk around outside, make a spa appointment, enjoy the renovated Abbey, and top it off with a great dinner and drinks. Make sure to have a designated driver or Uber to get back home. We went her based on a friends recommendation and the fact that Chef Peter Kelly (X Restaurant Group) is running the food program and I'm a huge fan of his. The location is spectacular, nestled high above the Peekskill waterfront you have tremendous views of the Hudson River. The restaurant is inside the Abbey Inn which itself is a gorgeous old church and Abbey. Inside has a strange layout but that makes it interesting. We brought a special bottle of wine since we were celebrating a birthday and there is a $40 corkage fee which i found fair. One of the great things about going to X20 or Restaurant X (before it closed) is the waitstaff is attentive but not over zealous. Here they are somewhat apathetic and unconcerned. Once seated and our order taken we were pretty much left to our own devices. I poured our wine and water (from a bottle left on the table). I'm nitpicking a bit because I expect more from a restaurant associated with Peter Kelly. His standards are extremely high. But on to the food. Just wow - the Ahi Tuna and the ethereal rice puffs was sublime. My wife's scallops were amazing. She ordered the NY strip which was cooked to perfection. I had the Osabow pork. If you've never had this delight, you really really need to try it. It's the most juicy pork chop you'll ever have, bursting with flavor. We finished off sharing the almond cake with blueberry compote- it was sooo good. Overall, it was a great meal and we would go back. read more

My husband and I had dinner there with friends a few weeks ago. The setting is beautiful and the food was delicious. Service was a bit slow but our server was very pleasant. When we tried to pay the bill with a gift card from the restaurant that we had been given as a gift, no one at the restaurant knew how to use the card for payment. Even the manager that night had no idea what to do. We paid by credit card and were told someone from the restaurant/hotel would call us regarding the gift card. No one did! After several days, my husband called the restaurant and spoke to someone on the phone who could not help but said she would have someone who could help call my husband back. As of today, still no call! My husband called again today and left a voicemail. Hopefully, they will call back this time! It is a shame that a nice restaurant can't get its act together. I found myself at Apropos for an educational dinner. I usually attend these in Manhattan, but occasionally when I find myself elsewhere I'll take advantage and aim to learn a little. My stomping grounds are usually lower Westchester, so this was actually my first time not only at this restaurant but in Peekskill as a whole. That being said, I was looking forward to checking this place out. Apropos is located in the Abbey Inn & Spa. The hotel itself is gorgeous - it looks really upscale with intricate architecture and sits atop a hill (hence being viewable from the parkways below). It also seems new, either that or the maintenance is awesome. Anyway, the restaurant itself is located right off the main entrance and has a upscale-ish, contemporary design (think smart casual attire). We had a drink at the bar before being led to a private room on the second floor. This room is not really connected to the restaurant, as we needed to go down a hall where there were hotel rooms and up an elevator. It wasn't really connected but they must use it as private event space. This room was intricately designed - high cathedral ceilings, wood panels, and stained-glass windows. I think I heard this used to be a chapel or something in the building's previous life, and the restoration/preservation was incredible; it was truly a feast for the eyes. All of our courses were served family style. I found this a little strange but don't fault the restaurant as the organizers of the event likely requested that; there's usually a prix fixe at these dinners but we are able to order our own app and entree (only dessert is usually family style). Our starters were a charcuterie board, Caesar salad, and Abbey Green salad (garden salad with a few accents). These were all good - they were generous with the meats and cheeses, and the salads were dressed well. We then moved onto pasta where we were served the orecchiette with fennel sausage and broccoli rabe pesto, and the cavatelli with tomato sauce. I wasn't a fan of either of these - both were overcooked, the fennel overpowered any other flavor in the orecchiette, and the cavatelli lacked flavor. We then shared two mains: roasted half chicken over polenta and hake. The chicken was kinda dry - the polenta was okay but would have been more interesting if they let it solidify and slice it up. The hake was pretty good, subtle flavor but it worked with the overall lightness of the fish. For dessert we were served panna cotta topped with vanilla beans - this was pretty good. Service was great, everyone was super friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. The food left something to be desired, though this was an educational dinner so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I would be interested in returning, however at this time I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to do so. read more

Absolutely delicious 5 star meal! We loved everything we had and the dishes truly showcase the chef's talent I loved loved the bone marrow with escargot - so unique and if you like foie gras, their version is delicious I got the duck my husband got the veal special - both were absolutely delicious! My husband and I visited this restaurant last weekend! Beautiful setting! Sampled a few of the small plates- really enjoyed the ahi tuna and the warm shrimp salad. Entrees- strongly recommend the Bronzino and salmon -exceptional! Service was attentive but not intrusive. Dessert-- don't miss the Belgian chocolate dome! Can't wait to go back! read more
