First, the guy running the place was so welcoming and hospitable - he shook our hands when we got there, and even treated us to a little Nutella filled doughnut when we left. Pastaphony has no business being this good. I got the fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken Parmesan on top because apparently I believe in carbs on carbs with a side of more carbs. Zero regrets. My son and I split the Caesar salad so we could pretend there was something healthy happening at the table, but with the amazing dressing and croutons it was so yummy. The pasta was creamy, the chicken Parmesan was cheesy and perfectly cooked, and everything tasted ridiculously fresh. What I don't understand is how you make food that tastes restaurant-quality but also like somebody's Italian grandma is in the back personally offended by the idea of you leaving hungry. It has that homemade comfort food taste that makes you immediately start planning what you're ordering next time while you're STILL eating. Yeah... I was not expecting the fast-food pasta to be this good! I thought $20-25 for fast-food pasta was a little pricey, but the portion is pretty big. YES! LATE NIGHT PASTA! Just having a late night place open, that's not a bar or cuisine centered around drinking (think some Korean restaurants, skewers, etc.), is a rarity and greatly appreciated. Pastaphony is a new franchise where you can build your own pasta or order the presets combinations that they already have. This location is open until midnight/1 AM on most nights (aside from Sunday), which is a GOD SEND. There's outdoor seating and indoor seating. I believe they share a space with another restaurant, since the restroom is in between to the right side if need be. All of the drinks are canned/bottled in the small fridge that they have and you can see that they're trying to make it into a hang out spot as they have board games and such here too and it's quite close to Fullerton College. The owner, I believe, Aybek (sorry, if I spelled wrong!) was super friendly and welcoming, shook both of our hands and introduced us and welcomed us into the restaurant. Super courteous and friendly and explained the entire menu to us. Food came out decently quickly and was delicious as well, can't go wrong with some pasta, garlic bread, and carbs. He was nice enough to throw in some complimentary Nutella bomb desserts as well. He also mentioned that his wife made all of the sauces. It's neat that there's a mom and pop shop vibe even for a franchise. For our late night visit, we got the: 1) Build Your Own (BYO) Pasta: -For BYO, you get a pasta and sauce of your choice, unlimited toppings, and you just pay a small extra fee for any premium toppings (the proteins). -We got the penne pasta with pink sauce (mix of the red sauce and Alfredo sauce), garlic, parsley, and basil. For the premium toppings, we got grilled chicken. -Comes out piping hot, very creamy and a generous portion as well. We had to take it to go since it was more than enough for 2 hungry adults in the dead of the mornight. -Grilled chicken was interspersed throughout and the flavoring from our toppings choice tied everything deliciously together. There's also parmesan and crushed red pepper packets if you need to add in more seasoning, but it was perfect the way that we had it. 2) Garlic Breadsticks: -This comes with 4 pieces and served with marinara sauce. -Super garlicky and fragrant. Delicious and a staple you can't do without. Fine on it's own and with the marinara sauce, but super addicting and delicious dipped into our pasta sauce. 3) Nutella Bomb: -Super cute that the owner drew 2 Nutella chocolate hearts on the pastries. It's bomboloni (fried Italian donuts) filled with Nutella. Soft and completely filled to the brim with Nutella. Best eaten fresh as the warmth makes the filling more gooey. Went back to Pastaphony to try their dishes. Couldn't be happier. The owner was so kind. He greeted us at the door and offered to go over the menu with us. The chef also chimed in when we were deciding what to do for our order. The vibe is casual "choose your own" pasta adventure ordering at the counter and bringing it to your table out on the patio. The food however is a sit down restaurant quality. We ordered the cheese tortellini with garlic, basil and marinera sauce-YUM! But the STAR of the show was the cheese raviolis with the homemade pesto sauce and fresh cheese on top! DELISH!! We will go back for that!! I've been going here for a while now and I've been meaning to make a review from the very first visit. This is one of the most wonderful experience I've ever had at a restaurant. The owners are amazing and very welcoming. Their attitude and hospitality directly translate to the food here. The pasta is amazing and you get tell how much love goes into their food. The portion is big which is always a plus for a big back like me. I will say the only downside is the outdoor only seating but it is fully shaded with a huge fan to cool you down! There's an Italian spot nearby named Mamma Mia that I love but had to try this place out because they offer a Build-Your-Own (BYO) model of ordering that's very affordable! I had ordered online through their website via Apple Pay for an estimated pick-up time of 11:55 AM. When I arrived, the man working the shop gave me an ETA of 5 more minutes because they were busy for the lunch rush which was a-okay. The man offered me coffee on the house but I declined only because I had coffee waiting for me in the car already. 5 minutes go by and an additional 5 extra minutes but I was in no rush. Everything was freshly made to order and it was nice seeing him prepare my food right in front of my eyes. There is nothing more to say other than that this is a flawless and spectacular new pasta spot that I'd feel guilty to gatekeep. There are tables in side and a few outside but I think this spot is more designed for takeout orders. I will be returning again in the near future to try out more of their menu. We ordered the spaghetti chicken parm, the fettuccine alfredo with shrimp, the penne shrimp pinko and the garlic cheese sticks. The portions are large and we all have lunch ready for tomorrow! I was very happy to see that the owner brought a bowl to a person who seemed to be homeless. The complimentary dessert was also very delicious. We hadn't been here before and didn't know that there was only patio seating. Definitely will choose a cooler day for a return visit.
