I have been to Pasion Tequila regularly for the past 4 years and it has gradually been going downhill. This past Friday Saturday night was the capper. WTF!? I thought Mexican food was supposed to have flavor. I ordered the enchiladas suiza. It was literally the most tasteless crap I have ever eaten. Honest. This place is now on the same level as Azteca. If Taco Bell has more flavor than something is wrong, no? I have said it before and will say it again: do not settle for mediocrity. I thought I was doomed when my husband's family decided we should meet for dinner at a Mexican restaurant in Bothell. First off, it's Bothell - not the place I would ever expect culinary excellence. Second, it was located in a strip mall with a run down Rite Aid. And third, his family is not known to be culinary gourmands by any stretch of the imagination. Boy, was I wrong - and for that, I'm writing my review pronto. I really shouldn't be writing this review - because this place was already crowded and I want to be able to eat there again. There are three things that I care about in a restaurant (food, service, value) and Pasion Tequila nailed it for all three. BRAVO. Food - there were six of us and we split the Pasion Tequila Fiesta platter and a platter of taquitos. Fiesta Platter = 4 pork shanks, a large cut of carne asada, 12 giant prawns (in either diablo or garlic sauce) and a large bowl of queso fundido (cheese + chorizo). By the time we finished, they needed to roll the six of us out of the restaurant. It's a lot of food. Funny enough - there were two Mexican guys sitting at the bar who split this platter between just the two of them. They didn't make it through half of theirs. The pork shanks fall right off the bone. The prawns were cooked to perfection. And the carne asada is delicious. If that's not enough - the chips and salsa are great (light non-oily chips, fresh pico de gallo) and they aren't stingy with refilling them like other restaurants (hello Cactus!). Drinks are cheap and poured with a heavy hand - could you ask for anything more? Service - some of the nicest most hard-working people I've ever met in a restaurant. The bartender Arturo doubled as an excellent waiter on a night they were full and short staffed. Value - the meal would have cost more than twice as much if this restaurant was located in Seattle. But since they're in Bothell - mains are around $10-$20 each, a beer/glass of wine will go for $3-$4 5 stars all the way - I can't wait to go back. read more

I have to agree with Amanda, I wasn't all that impressed, at all, the food was mediocre and the margarita I had was not good. The waitstaff was friendly and the atmosphere ok, but NOISY, we left wishing we had gone to one of the other Mexican restaurants in the area, and there are plenty to choose from. read more

Great food, well cleaned and cooked seafood as well as great carne asada, cant go wrong with good steak and seafood options at a mexican restaurant. Enchilada Lorena is one of the best dishes I've ever had, and everything is cooked into all their dishes with just the right amount of ingredients to compliment the main meat or dish. read more

I was here with a party of 6 the other day, they had really great service and the food was delicious! I wasn't feeling up for a complete meal, but I got the taquitos rancheros. They were really well done, compliments to the chef. Overall it was a very relaxing atmosphere, there were only a couple other parties there at the time, so we were able to be very laid back and casual. We went here on Cinco De Mayo to have lunch. We were excited to try a new mexican place! We were not happy when we left. We were sat at our table and 15 minutes later, watching all the tables around us getting drink refills and orders taken we still hadnt been offered a beverage. After FINALLY being acknowledged we were brought the wrong beverage. OUr waitress who looked as if she stepped out of an 80's Def Leppard video finally came back 10 min. later and we got the right drinks. I ordered chicken fajitas that honestly tasted like pepperoni. This might be one of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to. The food was amazing. I ordered the fish tacos they were simple and fish was cooked perfectly. The restaurant itself is smallish but very nice inside. I had to order to flan just to make sure it was just as delicious as the rest and I was not disappointed. I rarely write reviews, but in this case, I think it's worth sparing others the trouble. We decided to try Passion Tequila for dinner last night, since it's a bit closer to our home than our favorite Mexican restaurant in Greenlake. Within the first 3 bites of our meal, we looked at each other and said "Yeah, from now on, we stick with Rosita's". My crab enchilada was very salty, the avocados were under ripe (really? A Mexican restaurant that can't tell if avocados are ripe?) and my margarita was mostly mixer. The food was mediocre at best, and I would not go out of my way for it. Unfortunately, it gets worse... About 3/4 of the way through the meal, my husband found an unidentifiable object in his beef burrito. Not a chip, not an overcooked bit of tortilla, just a weird yellowish white thing. It was hard and jagged, and roughly 2" in size*. At that point, we decided that dinner was over. We didn't bother to ask for a comp or replacement because we were disgusted and just wanted to leave. As soon as we got in the car, my husband began to complain about nausea and stomach pain. Within 10 minutes, I was feeling the same. It's 18 hours later, and we're both still having stomach trouble. * It's a bit scary to note that another reviewer also mentioned finding strange objects in their food here. This used to be a favorite spot for my girlfriend and I to go for Mexican food until recently. Last time were there (about 2 weeks ago), my girlfriend got the tortilla soup, as she usually does. However, this time, she found a very large, dead fly in the soup. It didn't look like it had recently landed in said soup either.. it looked like it had been cooked WITH that batch of soup. Needless to say, that kind of soured the experience. I don't think we will be back any time soon. read more

My search for great hard tacos brought me here on a tip. Alas, the tacos are the typical packaged-shell hard tacos, but the seasoned meat and garnishes were fresh and delicious, the staff were super efficient and nice, and oddly enough their drip coffee was also surprisingly good. I really enjoyed the meal, and while my search for southwest style deep fried tacos continues, I now know of at least one more good reason to come to Bothell, as this is one of the better Mexican restaurants I've found in the area. read more

I typically judge Mexican restaurants by the quality of their chips and salsa. The salsa is great with a just the right amount of heat. I had the carne Asada plate with fried jalapenos and my wife had the shrimp chimichangas. We both enjoyed the entrees. The Cadillac margaritas were tasty and strong. Service has always been pretty good here but the food is pretty blah. It's so blah that I can only give 3 stars. They load you up with rice and beans and then give you small portions of protein. They chop it up into tiny pieces and spread it all over to make it look like you got a lot. Atmosphere is nice, but overall it's just not worth it. I've been into Pasion Tequila about 4 times. The owner makes a terrific margarita...one of the best. As far as food, I've had the tortilla soup, carne asada burrito and a few other dishes. The one thing I've consistently found is that while the quality is decent, the food is never piping hot when it arrives. One of my pet peeves is when not all the ingredients are listed. We have been to this restaurant many many times and love it every time. Sometimes it can get busy but the wait is worth it. We are both vegetarians and they will customize regular plates with veggies instead of meat and they do this well. It's sometimes difficult to find a Mexican restaurant that can cook different veggies so they all come out just right instead of some mush and some crunchy. We also especially like their super strong margueritas - no shot glass used when making them so beware! We always eat in the bar section since there is a female wait person in the dining room who has been consistently slow and not very attentive. But a very minor complaint and one that can be rectified by eating at the bar. read more

This place is the WORST. Went in on a Friday night, was slightly busy but I work in the industry and it was deff manageable. My boyfriend I waited 20 min to even be given menus, then another 30 to take our order then another 60 to get drinks and food. The one waitress was rude, and acted like we were bothering her even though we waited such a long time to get service. We will never go to this place again and for sub par food, not worth sitting for almost two hours for one margarita and some enchiladas. This is my boyfriends' and I's favorite hometown restaurant. The staff is amazing, and the owner goes out of his way to meet and great his customers. The margaritas ARE THE BEST. Never had a better one, and they always start making them as soon as we walk in. I thought the food was mediocre until I tried the Pasion Fajitas with carne asada instead of the little charred meat chunks. That dish, and the Alitas de puerco, are both must-tries and worth the price. read more

While visiting friends here in WA, our hosts asked if we wanted to go out for Mexican food. Since we live in California that is usually a pretty good thing, but Washington State? We went because these are "foodies" we are with, but with some private skepticism honestly. Holy crap this place was GOOD. All I can say is if you have courage and a need for a little spice in your life, go there and order the soup that the menu says will "raise you from the dead." Trust me. They are NOT kidding. There are an amazing team of people (family business) at this Mexican restaurant. They are always nice and the service is great. I was thrilled to see them after years of eating at Jalisco's in Canyon Park. My last (and it was my last) experience dining at Jalisco's was horrible. I discovered that evening the Jalisco staff had left and moved to Pasion Tequila. The food and drinks at Pasion are great. The service can be a bit slower when it's busy but where isn't that the case? If you like seafood YOU HAVE TO TRY THE Enchilada Loraine (sp). Truly an amazing dish. For those of you who tried this place a couple of years ago and didn't like it. Give it another try. They have come a LONG way since they opened. All good Mexican meals start off with chips and salsa so I'll start my review there. The chips tasted fresh and were delicious. The salsa tasted good but was way too watery. They also brought us some pico, which was different than other picos I'd had before but was pretty good. The entrees were good and everyone seemed pleased with their meals but nothing spectacular. The service was unimpressive. Not rude but as close to it as you can get without actually being so. The building itself was not very welcoming. Parking is a pain and the entrance is tight and feels like a crowded New York restaurant instead of a little place off the beaten path in Bothell. The layout inside was awkward and the decor felt cheap. For the price, this place needs some remodeling. Overall, not a bad meal but there are better, similarly priced mexican restaurants with food that's just as good nearby. I'd probably go back and give them another chance but I doubt I'd become a regular. read more

Cheap, delicious Mexican food less then 5min from the house? Check. Sang Happy Birthday to my mom and gave her a free shot? Check. Pasion Tequila is everything you want in a local Mexican food restaurant. Margaritas are strong but also delicious. Food is awesome and right at the price point. Service is quick and friendly, even when you sit down with a group of 12 and then don't leave for 2 hours. They have large, ridiculous sombreros to put on gringos' heads when its their birthdays. Did I mention that the margaritas were cheap?? We came here as a surprise for my mom's birthday- 5 of our 12 person group got there on time, the birthday girl and others got there almost 30min after our reservation. Staff was friendly, quick, and on top of things even though we were a trainwreck. Also, bonus points for being musical- their version of happy birthday was really good. Food was delicious, and served hot. My enchiladas were delicious, and the pork in the husband's tacos was tender, juicy, and so far and above what you typically get. Everyone at our table cleaned their plate, and only one person had leftovers to take home. For us, that's a good sign since we're a pretty finicky bunch. I had the Pollo Chipotle which was excellent. Chips and salsa were also very unique with a great spicy slaw for dipping in addition to salsa. They also have a great kids menu and activities.
