Absolutely the worst Panera in Midlothian and Richmond! From rude, bad attitude employees to incomplete orders. There is no excuse for any of this, their prices are way to expensive to pay for this kind of service. Falls back on management for poor training and recurrent training to keep up company standards. My next report will be to the Corporate office. This is ridiculous and unacceptable! Employees act like it's an inconvenience to wait on you ... and if there's a problem .... Oh forget it! read more

I wasn't too impressed with Panera Bread. This was my first visit to the chain ever (shocking, I know) and I don't really see myself going out of my way to come back. For a first time customer, it's kind of overwhelming with all the shit on the menu, the things in the clear deli case, and 4 employees immediately at the line waiting to take your order. Not knowing any better, I ordered their 'new' Asiago Steak sandwich, and a bowl french onion soup. For me, I thought that was it. Sandwich and soup. But apparently the sandwich comes with bread (wtf?), chips, or apples and the soup does the same. I was kind of confused because I didn't want a side of bread, with my sandwich. And I didn't really want two bags of chips with my meal, nor did I want 2 apples. And I guess this is shame on me for assuming that a steak sandwich would come hot, but the everything on that sandwich was cold, and I didn't taste a bit of asiago cheese on it anywhere. Luckily I had the french onion soup to dip it in which turned it in to a pseudo badass french dip, thus saving it. The interior was a wreck for being 2pm in the afternoon. The place was still jumping quite a bit, but every vacant table I went to (4) were dirty. There was ice on the floor near the soda fountain, too. I am sure a lot of this was just my expectations of the restaurant, and the establishment not aligning with that. But the cleanliness and the lacking customer service was sort of a major ding for me. I've had a variety of items - mostly bagels and maybe a quiche, sometimes a salad, but always coffee, just plain old coffee hot and fresh. The food has always been above average with the expected fresh and crusty breads, but the coffee tends to be just average. Kudos for the outdoor seating under cover though, and if you are meeting up with friends it's always quieter outside. It can get pretty noisy inside during meal times. Tip: If you prefer a real ceramic cup instead of paper, they have them, just ask! read more

I like this Panera mainly because of location. Its proximity to so many different places I go to in the Commonwealth 20 area makes it perfect. Well, almost perfect. While service is very prompt, I've encountered some rather surly employees on a few occasions. The other issue I have is the place always seems to be in a state of disarray. I've never seen the place not messy. We have had to wipe down our own table many times. The layout is also kind of awkward. Oh well, the food is still decent. Worst Panera ever. Always an issue. Finally had enough. Today I went in at 10:30 exactly and was told they stopped selling breakfast - okay, it was right on the dot but fine. But then, I ordered the last 3 cinnamon crunch bagels. Literally, in the basket in front of me- 3 left. I paid. I asked the guy if he was going to get them for me. He said since I wanted them toasted and sliced they would be right up and to wait down the aisle. I again asked if he would be getting them right now- because I suspected that if they were not bagged right away, he would sell them to someone behind me. He assured me they would be bagged and given to me shortly. 10 minutes waiting down the aisle for 3 sliced bagels (that's it- nothing more) and countless orders get given to customers who ordered after me. I went and checked the basket. The bagels were gone. I asked the girl working the counter to hand out orders and she said someone was working on them for me. I then see one of my 3 bagels get put on a plate (my order was to go) and a guy who came behind me come get it. Then the server behind the counter says "yeah so we only have 2 cinnamon crunch." I told him that was not accurate because I paid for the 3 that were remaining and then watched as one got sold to someone behind me and served to him in front of me. Mind you, 15 minutes has now gone by while I waited for THREE bagels to be sliced and put into a bag. The workers seemed stumped and asked if I would like to speak to the manager. I said yes. The manager comes out- doesn't even ACKNOWLEDGE me- goes to her workers and begins discussing the situation. So I walk up to her and start explaining what happened. Instead of apologizing, trying to make it right, getting a bagel from the back of available, giving a credit, etc - COUNTLESS other things she could have done- she starts ARGUING with me about how that's not what happened and that the guy "could have" placed a order on the computer before I checked out or "could have" ordered online. Nope. He didn't. I watched the entire thing unfold. WORST manager on earth. Then just walks off. At this point, I STILL have no bagels. The workers ask what replacement bagel I want. At this point, there are TWO choices left. Neither of which I want. I begrudgingly pick one and then they say "now we just need to slice them". I then begged them to PLEASE just throw the 3 bagels in a bag so I can leave. Other customers had come after me, gotten their food, eaten, and were cleaning up by this point. Horrendous. read more

Ordered delivery again, and again the order was incorrect. I suppose we are gluttons for punishment as this happens probably 2 out 3 times we get delivery. This time, we ordered a sandwich which was customized, and not one of the customizations were done, it was basically done straight up. We consistently have this problem along with missing items, or, one time, not our order at all. Its varied from insanely difficult and maddening to get fixed from fairly easy. I went here one afternoon with my husband and daughter. I am newly vegan so was a little nervius as to wether they had anything I can eat. We walked up to the counter and as I read the menu I noticed they had vegan soup up on the menu. I ordered that, grabed some water and sat waiting for our order. After about 10 mins our order came. The vegan soup looked delicious, so colourful. The flavours were wonderful too! I enjoyed every scoop of soup. Definitely the best vegan dish I have had so far since becoming vegan :) read more

If you're in the area and looking for a solid, relatively inexpensive place to dine in, then Panera should definitely be on your list. Perhaps the first thing you notice when you walk into this Panera is how spacious it feels compared to other Panera restaurants. It's probably due to the high volume of customers they deal with on a regular basis. I haven't eaten inside a Panera in a while, but I'm happy with their decision to add cups for water because I usually drink water as a healthy alternative to most other drinks. The service is just as good as any other Panera, as I've come to expect from the brand. I had a 'pick two' with the strawberry poppyseed & chicken salad as well as the southwestern flatbread, both of which I highly recommend (especially the salad; it's the bomb). Great food. Food is good, but this morning cashier, named James, was awful. I thought for a second there I was at the Dick's restaurant were you pay people to be rude to you. 1) He said what we order was out and the cook was to busy to take any orders right now. I tried to ignore the rude tone and just take the info. 2) Then he was clearly pissed when I said I needed to put in my phone number with the order. 3) The final blow was when he throws the receipt at me while I was putting my change in my wallet and walks off. I was letting the first two attitude things go thinking maybe he is just having a bad day, but man the third and final blow, really set the tone on this Friday the 13th morning. Made me wished I order through the app instead of dealing with James. But there are other times I went there and service was great and friendly but man this one guy, and I guess it really does take one bad experience that makes you want to change the way you feel about a place. Time and again - Panera always forgets part of my order making me circle back for a 40 minute round trip to go back for the item - I have no choice as it's someone's dinner. I've had issue with people that worked here before but tonight was real... special. Tonight we ordered online an hour before needing to pick it up and got an email it was ready. We drive 20 minutes to go pick it up. Nothing is on the pick up shelves so we say to the manager we were here to pick up an order. She says "that's nice" and walks away. She comes back to do something else and we say again we are here to pick up an order for "Johnson". She says there's no order for Johnson and walks away again! This time we yell after her "we got a text saying it was ready at 5:30p". She says "well we don't have it". We show the other employees the text showing it was "ready" - it was $127 worth of items so not easy to forget. Nope. They not only forgot they had serious attitude. After now standing there while they make 20 items - AFTER she packs all the items she hands us all the bags and THEN says SHE TOOK THE LIBERTY TO REPLACE ITEMS they were now out of since we placed the order. What?! She said yeah if you don't like the substitutions, call us. We get home and of COURSE they forgot a dinner - and - she decided to replace breakfast pastries with BROWNIES. I called and of COURSE no one answered. What in the actual... so yeah - all Paneras are the same food but like most - the front managers SUCK at customer service. I've been here multiple times waiting for my kids to get out of activities. What I like about this Panera is how spacious it is-- plenty of comfortable seating indoors and out. The wifi is good, but if you need an outlet, forget it. There don't seem to be any. The food is good, standard Panera fare. The service always seems overwhelmed-- a lot of teenagers who seem new to their jobs. My biggest complaint is how dirty the place is. The floor outside and the carpet inside are grungy. The bathrooms are passable, except for the floors. This could be a great Panera. I think they need more staffing and/or a better manager. read more

It sucks when you get home and your order Is still wrong after I see the employee looking through the bag and checking it . The food is usually good but the little things just ruin it for me . We learned that this location is not the place to go for dinner. We have visited many times for breakfast and many times for lunch and had great experiences but will not visit again for dinner. We ordered pick twos with a soup and sandwich and ended up having to return soup for being cold. A "fresh" one was given and it was colder than the first. I saw the commercial for the Cilantro Lime salad. I had it and was completely disappointed. I couldn't taste any lime or Cilantro, it's tasteless. My favorite Panera in Richmond. The Fuji Apple chicken salad and the frontera chicken sandwich with the iced green tea are my faves. It's a $20 meal but it's a lunch and dinner so not bad every now and then! They also have great breads, smoothies and desserts! read more

Ever since the table service started, the speed of the ordering line had slowed. Why have servers if you can't take food orders efficiently?

I wish I could give them three and half stars instead and may change this to four stars in the future if I continue to receive the nice service I received this morning. I actually prefer this Panera over the one near where I live. Employees are very nice and they have soup out way earlier than the Chester location. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to the Chester location between 8:00am to 8:30am and they don't have the soup up. They say they get it out closer to 9am, but during the winter months, especially, I love my warm soup in the mornings. Hull Street gets their soup up around 6am, I've been told. If the Hull Street location had a drive-thru, I'd probably give it a higher grade as I usually only stop before work, but their location is too awkward for a drive through and it's connected to other stores, including a Starbucks, so a drive-thru is, understandably, not workable there. Their parking and parking lot can be a real pain as you're also competing with the Starbucks store for spots in the tight front parking area. There is more available parking in the back, though. read more

I decided to use the online ordering function and pick our breakfast up in store. I didn't think there would be a need to double check that my breakfast sandwiches actually had meat on them, but I apparently I did. I got home to find egg and cheese sandwiches and a disappointed family. That was about two weeks ago. We decided to give panera another shot this morning. We asked for two breakfast sandwiches one with sausage and one with bacon. Order comes up there's only one sandwich, apparently the woman behind the register only rang up one sandwich. I returned to the front to reorder my sandwich, clearly angry, I get my order in their system and sit down to wait. Sandwich comes out on brioche and not ciabatta like I had ordered. Decided not to go correct it because I have other things to do today. I think my days of coming to this panera are running thin. read more

I don't think you can really go wrong with Panera. Yes, it's a chain. But everything that I've ever had here is delicious. I absolutely love their broccoli and cheddar soup. I get it in a bread bowl, or with 3-4 baguettes. Their baguettes are perfect btw. Crunchy on the outside, yet soft on the inside. I also love their chipotle chicken sandwich. I usually get a caesar salad with all of my meals, and their caesar salad is actually much better than most restaurants that I've been to. I think their Parmesan has a lot to do with it. It's very fresh and I also like that its shaved, not grated. The dressing is also great. I'm a big fan of their cinnamon crunch bagel as well. I don't even know if it can be called a bagel though, bc it seems more like a dessert. Which is more than OK with me ;-) They also have some of the best kettle cooked chips I've ever tried. You can have them in lieu of your baguette if you like. I usually get both though, bc I can't decide which one I'd rather have, being that they are both amazing. This is a great spot for lunch with a friend, or your children. It's pretty loud so I don't think I'd recommend it for a business lunch, but I've seen people try. read more

Panera is one of my favorite places to eat but I was really disappointed in my meal this evening. I decided to try the Moroccan beef stew and it was not up to par. It was mostly rice, several carrot pieces and 3 small pieces of meat. The spice palate wasn't very Moroccan either. Definitely not worth $10. The only reason my review is 3 stars is because the salad I purchased for my husband was fine. This location is better as far as the others when it comes to having inventory. I only gave 3 stars because of the very rude young lady at the register. No greeting to me just a rude "next" I said "hey how are you?" Nothing , very uncomfortable. I needed my bagels in a plastic bag instead of just the paper bag they come in. She didn't do it so ask her if she could please plastic bag them for me. Not saying a word she grabs the paper bag and huffs and puffs while transferring them to plastic. Ugh read more
