I like that this can be a healthy option, if you choose right. That was our goal and it largely hit. My daughter (D1 athlete home for a visit) said it was 11 out of 10; she loved it, but doesn't hurt that I'm buying. I think if I played with options mine could be great, but it was just okay. I ordered kale with bulgar, chicken, corn, tomatoes, cucumber, sweet potato, beets and cilantro lime. I think the overwhelming flavor was just kale. It needed some crunch and dynamics. Roots Natural Kitchen bowls never disappoint. I recently stopped by this location to get their Roots Bowl, and it was fantastic. I really appreciated the servers ensuring that my bowl was gluten free. My sister tried the Astra Bowl; she was excited to try it because of the sriracha peas but found the bowl wasn't as great as she had hoped. One thing to note is the time it took to place our order. I'm not sure if it was due to the time of day or the location, but we did had to wait a while to order due to long lines. read more

I'm not a big yelp reviewer, but I really want to see roots do better. I historically have thought that roots offered a good amount of food for a good price. Roots gets a 1 star because I want someone in charge to know that it is almost impossible to order food off of your online platform. The only place I can reliably order from is uber eats. The roots website and app always offers better pricing and I like supporting small business without uber taking their massive % off the top. I wanted something semi-light, semi-healthy, and very tasty, like a bowl from Sweetgreen, Cava, or Roti. This was not like those at all. It was heavy and not healthy, it was bland, it was mostly cheap ingredients like a lot of pita chips, rice, and beans. The sauce was more of a green pesto and didn't improve the bowl. The pita chips were all soggy. I'm not sure how long the bowl was sitting out between the catering delivery and consumption; this certainly didn't help it. All of my friends know that Roots is my go-to for a quick, delicious, healthy meal. I really appreciate that whether I order there or ahead in the mobile app, I can get my food quickly and just as I ordered. If you are a vegetarian or like and just enjoy meatless options, I highly suggest trying any of their tofu varieties. My favorite is the miso tofu. They also load up your bowl with all of the toppings you want, like mushrooms, sweet potatoes, beets, broccoli, rice, and greens. They also have choices such as their Cobb salad or El Jeffe if you want a combo of ingredients by their choosing. You can opt for a make your own bowl, which is my usual choice. The seating is indoors with a few table options in the front and back of the restaurant but I would not describe it at all as a sit down room. My favorite bowl is the el jefe and I switched out the chicken for the bbq tofu and the combination was fantastic - highly recommend! I am new to tofu this year but I think I like it better than the chicken at roots (which says a lot because the chicken is so good!) OMG - Today was my first time ever to a Roots Natural Kitchen and I'm wondering why I hadn't visited sooner! The food was absolutely delicious, so fresh, and the portion sizes - generous. For my bowl, I ordered the Southern, which is a grain based Signature bowl that they offer. For any of their Signature bowls, you can make adjustments if you choose. I chose to substitute arugula instead of kale, black beans instead of chickpeas, and roasted sweet potatoes instead of cheddar. It was absolutely perfect. My favorite ingredients that I would not go without next time are the roasted sweet potatoes, the black beans, the roots rice and the roasted broccoli. My bowl came with the Lemon Tahini vegan dressing, which was very tasty. I added a little of the Chipotle Tabasco to my bowl for a smoky kick! They offer a few Spindrift drinks (which I don't personally care for) and a couple bottled water options. But I chose to go with their fresh brewed iced tea with lemonade. It was subtly sweet, which I loved. The atmosphere is light and bright with a lot of cute plants. Reminds me of being at home. I attended their soft opening today but this location is opening officially TOMORROW! Save the date, mark your calendar, and try them out for some delicious, fresh food. Service: 4.5/5 - The service here is better than their other location in Downtown. The staffs are friendly, welcoming, and nice. The menu structure is difficult to comprehend on first visit. It shouldn't be that way. The food itself (if one was not exposed to the selection and mixing performed by largely under-trained personnel) had a nice balance and seemed to alive hunger. Was it satisfying and did one feel it was carefully prepared? No. The cleanliness and lack of food handling procedures should be reviewed. Any restaurant can have a bad day, and perhaps it was just a bad day. Service was limited to those taking orders and then fulfilling client orders by selecting components from large containers. I found the process to be unappetizing. Lastly, the cost vs value curve was out of balance.
