Holy sourdough! This place was amazing. Friendly staff greeted me and the smell of bread filled my nose. The line outside was quick to move and we were in! I got a sourdough loaf, chocolate croissant, spicy fennel bagel with cream cheese and a tres leches cake. They were all amazing. My daughter and I ate the bagel and the croissant in the car in the on the way home because we couldn't wait. While waiting to pick up my bagel I chatted with the bakers shaping some bread. I told them about my sourdough starter and we had a lovely exchange. Everyone there was amazingly friendly. I will definitely ate this a regular outing and I can't wait to try more! read more

While standing in line on a cold windy Saturday morning, I thought "Well if there's a line then it must be worth it" and it definitely was. Although the line was long, it moved pretty fast, so that's something I can appreciate. The customer service was also great. They ran out of Baguettes, which is what I was hoping for, but I was offered Italian Baton instead of I didn't want the sourdough. Oh my goodness! The bread has a great flavor and is the perfect mix of fluffy and chewy. The Nutella Stuffed Brioche was so light and fluffy. I think the Nutella filling was mixed with something else because the flavor wasn't too much Nutella flavor. They also have a cinnamon flavor that I can't wait to try. The bagels were good, but they aren't very thick if that's what you're looking for. I personally like mine a bit thinner how they have them here. read more

I really love Ovenbird and I can't believe it has taken so long to write a review! There is sometimes a line on the weekend, but it usually moves pretty quickly and there is ample space on the sidewalk to wait and decide what you're going to eat. They have great bagels - I love their spicy fennel and zaatar bagels and their lemon blueberry scone is to die for. We've gotten a sampling of their pastries, focaccia, and sourdough loaves over the years and I have liked everything I've tried. For breakfast, I'd always opt for a pastry or bagel sandwich over their quiche, but honestly you can't really go wrong. My only recommendation is to stick to their delicious food offerings if you're a coffee snob. The coffee is totally fine, but not the best in the area. read more

Wandering Baltimore's Little Italy in search of much needed coffee on a rainy Saturday morning, I noticed a line of stretches out the door at this little corner shop. I always need the wisdom of locals and I joined the line. I was not disappointed! Outstanding Americano! Balanced, flavorful and a lingering delight to the palate! I could not resist the fresh baked scones and ordered a blueberry scone that melted in my mouth as it exploded in flavor. Cute corner bakery cafe in the Little Italy neighborhood of Baltimore. Their oat milk iced latte was so smooth and creamy! It was a good thirst quencher for this wickedly hot summer day. My oldest daughter took the family to her favorite bakery in Baltimore. We tried two different types of cookies, chocolate cake, and foccacia. Everything was moist, delicious, and relatively inexpensive. The family agreed with the oldest daughter and voted Ovenbird is the best in Charm City. Absolutely love this place! We will Absolutely go out of our way if we are in MD to stop by and pick up some favorites. They have some of the best bagels we've ever had and fantastic cream cheese. We've tried Everything, Spicy Fennel, Plain and Rosemary Garlic bagels. If they have it get the herbed cream cheese, if that is out- definitely give the garden veggie a try. Another great find! I'm not normally a fan of toasted bagels, but this one was delightful! Warm, wonderfully coated in fennel, soft and chewy - perfectly textured. The egg was cooked just enough, not too runny that it was oozing down your hand, but creamy and thick. My only 'complaint' about the lemon curd is that I wanted more!! This is possibly my favorite bakery in all of Baltimore and the best I've had in a while. I've tried their honey poundcake and lemon raspberry and both were insane. I've had some pastries as well include a lemon blueberry scone and one of the vanilla chocolate cakes which were both incredible! Can't go wrong here! To their detriment they don't advertise COFFEE on the outside but have an espresso machine inside making a very decent cup! What a waste of a nice window with plastic baking storage containers in it! Incredible. We stumbled upon this place on a whim and it was absolutely lovely. Ashley helped us at the counter and made recommendations, and we met Michael (the manager) who told us the history of this establishment (which I hope becomes an institution in the area)! This place does bread and pastries and it does them WELL. We had an almond croissant fresh out of the oven, and I wish I could drive down from upstate New York every weekend to get one. They get a few extra points, had asked for a chocolate croissant but they admitted that the batch had not risen overnight and just were not up to their standards of selling. I respect this. Sorry that it happened for them as business owners but great that they did. The almond croissant was very good, buttery. Could be ever so touch crispier along the edges but not too sweet and very enjoyable. Also had a baguette. Can tell a lot about a place from their baguette. This one, had a touch of sour (in a fantastic way) - i don't know if they are using sourdough or not. Nice and crispy on the outside and pillowy with a nice crumb in the middle. Had it with a little bit of butter and it was, good. Also had a couple of breakfast sandwiches (with the family), and these were also very tasty. Had a great first visit at Ovenbird Bakery in Little Italy. Seems like a great gathering spot to expect to see some familiar faces on a Sunday afternoon. I ran into a few people I knew whole waiting in line. I waited somewhere between 15-20 minutes. They allow one party (or person) in at a time to order. Afterwards, they give you whatever drinks they can right then and there and you wait for the rest at the pick up window (pictured). There is outside dining on the form of small tables on the sidewalk. I kept it simple and got the Smoked Salmon sandwich which definitely hit the spot! Not sure what Smoked Salmon they used, but I was pleased that it wasn't overly salty. The bagel was soft and fresh, and the capers (for once in my life) blended well and didn't overpower the other flavors. I'm not caper fan but wanted to order it as is for the review. Perfect portion size and the price was right! I look forward to trying the other bagel varieties as well as some pastries for my future visits. One of the best Smoked Salmon sandwiches I've had (and there are many) so Ovenbird Bakery is off to a great start with me! Check them out whenever you get the chance! read more

I'm from NYC. I've been to Paris twice. I've tried hundreds of pain au chocolates (chocolate croissants). I'm very picky. These pain au chocolates from Ovenbird are the best I've ever had. They are preposterous!!! The layers- the FLAKE- the richness....UNREAL! Their scones were excellent too. I only recently discovered Ovenbird, and I am so glad that I did! If we've got more little bustling bakeries in the area, they're well hidden...I felt like this was a gem to find. My experience was limited but fantastic: I asked at the counter what's the one thing I shouldn't leave without trying and was pointed to their blueberry scone. First off, when she handed it to me, *it was still warm* which is just about the greatest thing ever. And it was absolutely delectable, some kind of magical balance between crumbly and melting in my mouth. They use REAL blueberries (not the itsy little wild blueberries) so it had an excellent fruitiness to it, and a beautiful sugary crust on top. It was love at first bite. As a side note, they do have a little walk-up counter if you've placed your order ahead of time. Otherwise, at the next door down under the awning, you can go in (one customer at a time for COVID) to browse their case of delicious baked goodies. I felt good going inside by myself since it was tiny, and everyone was wearing well-secured masks. The woman at the counter also had gloves. I'll definitely be back! read more

Came here with my friends for a late breakfast/lunch. You order at the front and there are tables outside that are first come first serve. There is no indoor seating. By 12 pm on a Sunday they were all out of breakfast ingredients - so I would recommend coming before 10 am if you want the full breakfast selection. I will be doing the same next time lol. I got the turkey havarti with arugula and cucumbers on focaccia and it was amazing! The bread is super fresh and the sandwich is perfectly toasted. I also tried a few bites of the banana bread pudding and mushroom quiche which, were both delicious. The line can get pretty long on weekend mornings, but it is worth the wait! Because of COVID it is one person inside at a time, so the line might look long but it goes fast. Getting prepared food takes a little while though. The croissants are SO good! The scone is yummy but fluffier than expected which is fine cause it reminds me of cake and I love cake. The chocolate PB pie is really smooth and I LOVE IT although it was really sweet so I couldn't finish it all. The dulce de leche banana cream pie is not as good as the chocolate PB but still yummy. I wouldn't get the key lime pie again. My favorite thing is prob the tres leches cake because I love how spongy and milky the cake is. The sourdough is pretty standard and I prob wouldn't get it again because it's kinda overpriced. The cinnamon bun is also overpriced for its size and taste but it was yummy. Overall, this is my favorite bakery for sweets in Baltimore. We went in the morning (around 10:30 am) and there was only a short 1 person line. And nothing was sold out! read more

I swear every visit is great! I'm really racking up the rewards points which you should sign up for if you don't already have it! I tried the Asiago bagel recently as I hadn't seen it before and WOW it was delicious. Nice and soft and super cheesy. I also always pickup a few English muffins - pro-tip, slice them and put them in the freezer if you don't plan to eat within a day as they can get hard quickly but then you always have delicious English muffins ready to toast. I will say I always get a laugh since my English muffin sizes have always been all over the place but regardless they always taste good! read more

As a New York bagel aficionado, I came here in search of the closest Baltimore had to offer in terms of a New York-style bagel. The everything bagel with egg-and-cheese wound up exceeding my expectations by a wide margin. They put a nice spin on the coating (every inch covered), and the egg and cheese were super fresh. While there for the bagel, I spotted a sign for a smashed meatball sandwich, and so I came back a few days later to try this out - and again, it was delicious. I think this is where they shine, and it's how I initially got hooked on this bakery! Their savory and sweet scones are absolutely delicious!! I can eat their sundried tomato, green onion and goat cheese savory scone everyday! my husband's favorite is the ham scone. As for sweet scones, their lemon blueberry scone is heavenly and just melts in your mouth. -desserts: I've had their cheesecake, cookies, and key lime pie, and it's all very good. To be honest, the cheesecake is not the best I've had (I like Cafe Dear Leon's better)....but it's still very good! Their chocolate chip cookie is like crack and superb! Overall, this bakery is absolutely wonderful. Another great thing is that they don't sell out of everything by the late afternoon. I've been to bakeries that are all sold out of food by like 2 or 3 pm, but in my experience, ovenbird usually still has baked goods available until just before closing. You know it's the bakery for you when you can smell the fresh bread through your mask, am I right? If that's right up your alley, Ovenbird Bakery is the place to be! This establishment follows all safety measures: all staff are wearing masks, customers must wear masks to enter, customers are spaced out in line, and only one party is allowed inside the store at a time. Popped by Ovenbird on a weekend. It gets fairly crowded and lines are long earlier in the day, but not too bad in the afternoon or closer to closing (4 PM). However, there is plenty of street parking available at all times! There are so many options here and I highly recommend perusing the menu ahead of time. You can also place your order online. I purchased a vanilla oat milk latte (always pleased to see milk alternatives at bakeries!). They use Oatly barista here, so I already knew it'd be a good one! Note that their loaves of bread tend to sell out closer to the end of the day. They have sourdough, wheat, baguettes, and more, all fresh and delicious!
