Had to show every angle of the sandwich because it's one of the best I've ever had. I actually took these pictures in July but I've been reminiscing on the sandwich for months. I feel like not every sandwich shop or bakery gets a BLT right but ovenbird does. Maybe it's the mayo, maybe it's Maybelline. This cute little bakery has so much more to offer, including the fresh baked bread, many other types of sandwiches, coffee, and the lot. Not lots of seating inside, but in the summer, they have four or five tables out. Good place to chat with friends.
Staying in Little Italy this week and found the bakery where all the locals go. That's for a very good reason. What a great selection of baked goods and coffees! Inside is clean and quaint. The staff were incredibly friendly and informative. There was seating inside and outside and many of the people there this morning were carrying out. Everything we had hit, and I was eyeing up the Old Bay cheddar loaf for tomorrow. Whole everything was great, my two favorites were The Dementor which is a deconstructed croissant with cheddar and great savory seasoning. Flaky, moist, buttery...amazing. The almond croissant was easily one of the best I've had. This crew executes on everything they do. Can't wait to go back and I'll be sure to make this a stop every time I'm in Baltimore.
Great little artisan bakery in the heart of Little Italy in Baltimore. Bagels are great. I had a bacon egg and cheese on an everything. The bagel was heavily covered in "everything" on both sides. The Everything mix was not as heavy on garlic as most are and heavier on black pepper. This was a wonderful change! Egg was cooked well and the cheese was strong enough to really add flavor where most just add texture. Wife's croissant was buttery and flaky and well laminated. The loaf of sourdough we brought home was and is just excellent -- nice crumb, good texture and chew, well baked throughout. Two small tables inside (we were lucky to snag one, the day was warm) and three or four (I think) outside. Really friendly staff of bakers, cashier, and order fulfillment folks.
Phenomenal. The everything bagel that I had was exceptional. It was soft and chewy, amd when they said everything, they meant it! I don't think I've ever had an everything bagel that had what I thought was red pepper flakes or some sort of kick to it. The lox was fresh, as was the cream cheese, I just wish there was more of it. I got the Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte, not sure why , but it sounded good. I can't say I was too impressed and it was fairly high at over $6. The staff were friendly and there next to no wait. I loved the quaint setting and the outdoor chairs, I will definitely be back!
How do I start a petition for all chocolate croissants to have more chocolate throughout instead of when being baked, the chocolate just all sits at the bottom!? Regardless of my strife, I had to make this visit since I had seen good things, but I'm not sure what the giant hype was about unless I didn't get the correct items. Got here before they opened at 8am & stood outside for about 5 minutes with several other people until they let us in right on the dot, building up the anticipation! They have quite a few things to choose from, but I decided to get the Chocolate Croissant being that I've had them several times in the past from different places & enjoy them. This thing was HUGE, had layers upon layers of flaky pastry dough covered in cinnamon sugar I believe & then the sad chocolate logs that sat on the bottom in all of their glory. It was fresh and great, I just wish there was some way to have the chocolate experience the entire way through. Now I'm more disappointed because online I had seen they had a Cheddar Jalapeño Sourdough (& its still on there right now, doesn't state it's seasonal) that I was really looking forward to, but I was told it's a seasonal bread and of course it's not the correct season apparently? Booooo My only thing is, the website needs to be updated if it's not correct and I'm not from Baltimore or Maryland for that matter, so I had only come for that reason and was let down! Ended up opting for the Rosemary & Sea Salt Focaccia, and was overwhelmed by the site of the pineneedle-looking spice LOADED all over the top. I love rosemary, that was why I got it, but I didn't enjoy the amount of it. Taste was alright, but overall extremely underwhelming, it actually ended up molding sitting on my counter because I wasn't eating it fast enough since I had no desire to. Maybe I should've made grilled cheese? Who knows! Workers seemed tired and lackluster, granted it was an early Sunday morning, but some pep in your step would've made a difference as well!
I've been coming to Ovenbird since they opened and stopped coming for a little bit, but recently came back because they have the best bagels in town as of 2025. I was very disappointed with the toasting and the schmearing of the bagels. Make sure you ask for extra toasted and a normal amount of cream cheese because the amount they gave me was scant. I'm always a little disappointed in their quiches and sandwiches, but I recently had their Italian cold cut and the Baltimore sourdough is delicious. There wasn't enough of the hot pepper spread so it was a little dry so make sure you ask for more of that spread. This is not a French bakery, so do not get their croissants. I repeat do not get their croissants even though the sales person will tell you they're good. They are not good. The croissant is also five dollars, which is $.50 more than the average competitor and it was honestly worse than a store-bought croissant. It's ugly, dry and so dense. This is their first location in Little Italy and it's quite small. There's two tables inside, but they do have outdoor seating, which is really lovely on a nice day.
GREAT chocolate croissant!! Definitely one of the best I have had in the DMV area. It was served cold though, so I wish they had a better way of maintaining the freshness of the pastries sold at the bakery. Also bought a couple of their bread loaves, focaccia, and everything tasted wonderful. Latte was great, too. The place is tiny though, only has two tables available. More like a to-go bakery
I've been here a few times, always trying something new, and I'm never disappointed. The ham and gruyère croissant was a little too greasy/buttered in my opinion but it was still sooo good. Paired with an ube latte (my new favorite coffee syrup for sure!), it was absolutely divine. The cafe is small inside and always has business, so grabbing an indoor table is difficult, though the outdoor ones are nice in good weather. Staff is friendly and pretty quick considering the near constant line of patrons.
This place is pretty tight inside but what it lacks in space, it more than makes up in staff friendliness and delicious treats. The staff have the patience of a saint because I couldn't make up my mind to save my life and they offered very helpful recommendations. The pastries and sandwich were fresh, buttery and beyond delicious which promoted a secondary to go purchase.
We were craving a breakfast sandwich and figured it was the perfect opportunity to finally try Ovenbird bakery, and I'm so glad! That bacon egg and cheese on a Za'atar bagel was AMAZING. Typing this review makes me crave it again. I also enjoyed a really good shot of espresso while waiting for our food. Space is cozy, whether you plan to enjoy your food and coffee there, or are there to pick up your order. Will definitely be back, because they were sold out of their everything bagel, and I definitely want to give that one a try alongside one of their sourdough loaves!
Everything about this place is good. Good service, nice staff, best pastries (lots of options)... I'm going back for the burrata bagel! The service is quick and definitely worth trying if you're visiting Baltimore.
I came here on a weekday morning with a friend for the first time. My friend had been here before and loved it and I was recommended this spot as well so I wanted to check it out. There is limited free street parking available right nearby the bakery, you're better off likely parking a few blocks down and walking over. This location is TINY, there are 2 tables inside and I would say this should be a take-out place only. The drinks and food come out within 5 mins, so super fast service. I did not like how the menu has no pricing listing so you're just blindly ordering which is annoying because I do my food spending on a budget. My friend did order a loaf of bread and they do offer slicing it for you which I thought was neat. Avocado Toast 4/5, this was $9 which I think is on par with the usual price for avocado toast, I did enjoy the butter / avocado / parmesan combination and this tasted very veggie like w the arugula on top, I would reorder this Iced Ube Latte 2/5, okay so this is their Ravens seasonal drink as Ube is a beautiful vibrant purple shade, or at least, theoretically this. This is far more espresso coffee based than Ube, which is only present in a slight aftertaste. I would not reorder this and I think it needs more Ube to be called an Ube latte. 2 stars as I did like the espresso and there is at least traces of Ube detected. Zaatar Bagel w/ herb spread 5/5, my friend ordered and rated this. She liked that it did not have too much spread and was crunchy on the bagel's exterior while remaining soft on the interior. She liked the herb spread and noted a strong dill taste that works well with the Zaatar bagel for an overall flavorful effect.

We loved Ovenbird! The spicy fennel was such an interesting flavor and spiced so well! Getting it with just cream cheese was a great idea because it really allowed me to appreacite the taste of the bagel. The lox poppy bagel was also delicious. Next time I would love to try the Za'tar bagel! We loved the location as well and there were some tables outside the store, which faced out to a lovely view of the streets of Little Italy. Overall a great Sunday breakfast! read more

Made it over to Oven Bird Sunday morning around 9 and was pleasantly surprised as there wasn't a line although it built up by the time I left. A small spot that somehow manages to fit an abundant variety of sweet and savory baked items with breakfast and lunch sandwiches. We ordered a few items to share. Lox With everything Bagel was excellent with the capers taking it over the top. The Goat Cheese and onion was our favorite savory scone although all enjoyed the Ham Cheddar chive also. The most popular Scone-Blueberry Lemon is a must try! This one I could have every morning! The breakfast muffin (freshly baked) sandwiches were also tasty. We got egg/cheddar with bacon and another with sausage. Our Baltimore Sourdough loaf was nicely balanced with just the right touch of sour. Perfect crust with a soft airy center. One of those spots where all the people are just having a good time. The lady who took our order was so upbeat, enthusiastic and welcoming! Prices are also super reasonable. A neighborhood gem and I would say one of the top bakeries in the area! We will be back! read more
Holy sourdough! This place was amazing. Friendly staff greeted me and the smell of bread filled my nose. The line outside was quick to move and we were in! I got a sourdough loaf, chocolate croissant, spicy fennel bagel with cream cheese and a tres leches cake. They were all amazing. My daughter and I ate the bagel and the croissant in the car in the on the way home because we couldn't wait. While waiting to pick up my bagel I chatted with the bakers shaping some bread. I told them about my sourdough starter and we had a lovely exchange. Everyone there was amazingly friendly. I will definitely ate this a regular outing and I can't wait to try more! read more
This place has a line out the door all day for a reason. The almond croissants are to die for. They have this amazing paste inside them and the balance with the rest of the flaky pastry is amazing. The goat cheese, tomato, and scallion scone was delicious too. Much more savory and crumbly. The chocolate croissant was very good, but I would much rather the more unique finds. I ordered the french baguette that morning and served it in the evening and it was gone quickly. The hot chocolate was the only thing I wouldn't order again, but not because it was bad. I like a thicker, chocolatery drink and it was not that. Can't wait to come back! read more

We loved the smashed meatball sandwich, zaatar bagel with herb cream cheese, and chocolate chirp cookie (shaved chocolate) topped with granulated sugar and sea salt! While standing in line on a cold windy Saturday morning, I thought "Well if there's a line then it must be worth it" and it definitely was. Although the line was long, it moved pretty fast, so that's something I can appreciate. The customer service was also great. They ran out of Baguettes, which is what I was hoping for, but I was offered Italian Baton instead of I didn't want the sourdough. Oh my goodness! The bread has a great flavor and is the perfect mix of fluffy and chewy. The Nutella Stuffed Brioche was so light and fluffy. I think the Nutella filling was mixed with something else because the flavor wasn't too much Nutella flavor. They also have a cinnamon flavor that I can't wait to try. The bagels were good, but they aren't very thick if that's what you're looking for. I personally like mine a bit thinner how they have them here. read more

First off this place is super cute and the staff are very friendly. The food and pastries are exceptional. We have eaten here for breakfast every morning over the weekend while visiting. The herbal blood orange iced tea, lemon blueberry scone, lavender shortbread cookie, and raspberry cheese danish have become our favorites! Everyone should try this place! read more
Another great find! I'm not normally a fan of toasted bagels, but this one was delightful! Warm, wonderfully coated in fennel, soft and chewy - perfectly textured. The egg was cooked just enough, not too runny that it was oozing down your hand, but creamy and thick. My only 'complaint' about the lemon curd is that I wanted more!! I could seriously eat a bowl of it! The loaves of fresh baked bread looked unbelievably delicious. Will definitely return! read more

Cute corner bakery cafe in the Little Italy neighborhood of Baltimore. Their oat milk iced latte was so smooth and creamy! It was a good thirst quencher for this wickedly hot summer day. I also got their mosaic cake which I think is essentially an Italian salami! It's rare to come across this dessert so I love that they have it and really nailed it. Would love to go back earlier next time to try their pastries in the morning. read more

My oldest daughter took the family to her favorite bakery in Baltimore. We tried two different types of cookies, chocolate cake, and foccacia. Everything was moist, delicious, and relatively inexpensive. The family agreed with the oldest daughter and voted Ovenbird is the best in Charm City. In fact, my wife visited the bakery three more times during her extended stay after my youngest and I flew home to Houston. She tried other bakes and reported that everything was 5 stars. Underwhelming . Staff was very friendly and nice and deserve all the praise on that end. But place was small and confusing to get into and find, options were limited and not exciting. Raspberry cheesecake danish was most exciting thing there and it seemed like it had been sitting around for at least all day. As a tourist, deff not the 5 stars it boasts on here. Certainly a 2-3 star average maybe at best spot... read more

This place was nearby the hotel we were staying in and the long line says a lot. There were plenty of baked good yummies and even vegan cream cheese spread for my bagel lox. The croissants were to die for. Definitely highly recommend when you're in the area. read more

A great bakery with amazing sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, and pastries! I've tried the delicious cáptese sandwich with mozz, tomatoes, and AMAZING bread as well as the breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel. I've had some pastries as well include a lemon blueberry scone and one of the vanilla chocolate cakes which were both incredible! Can't go wrong here! Line gets long on weekends, especially in the morning. Went around 8 am and it was long, but moved fast and made it to work by 9! Plenty of street parking in the area. read more

Incredible. We stumbled upon this place on a whim and it was absolutely lovely. Ashley helped us at the counter and made recommendations, and we met Michael (the manager) who told us the history of this establishment (which I hope becomes an institution in the area)! This place does bread and pastries and it does them WELL. We had an almond croissant fresh out of the oven, and I wish I could drive down from upstate New York every weekend to get one. We also had the turkey sandwich and an everything bagel with cream cheese, lox, capers, and cucumbers. The Ovenbird is an awesome place and we will return next time we are in the area!! read more

Came here for the coffee and left out with coffee, honey poundcake and carrot cake. Cute and very quaint place. Blink and you'll miss the signage. To their detriment they don't advertise COFFEE on the outside but have an espresso machine inside making a very decent cup! What a waste of a nice window with plastic baking storage containers in it! A neon coffee sign would suffice and draw them all in. Didn't know they've been open since 2019. Anywho, feed the little birdies all around the table your crumbs while you're there. Enjoy! I looked at all of the bakeries in the area and chose this one and glad I did. Small little bakery and coffee shop in Little Italy. Super nice service and the pastries were delicious! The almond croissant was delightful. I usually don't like scones but this green onion & goat cheese scone was light and flavorful (but not overpowering). Coffee was even better. read more

As I considered a breakfast spot for my visit to Baltimore, I was surprised to see a business with five stars. After trying it I see why? The spicy fennel bagel would have been amazing toasted by itself... as a bacon, egg and cheddar sandwich it was magnifique. The espresso tonic drink (forgot the name) was a nice surprise. Staff was nice and thankfully i missed the rush. Will be a must visit when in Baltimore ... street parking plentiful in the area ... might be short walk ... outside seating only read more
Had a great first visit at Ovenbird Bakery in Little Italy. Seems like a great gathering spot to expect to see some familiar faces on a Sunday afternoon. I ran into a few people I knew whole waiting in line. I waited somewhere between 15-20 minutes. They allow one party (or person) in at a time to order. Afterwards, they give you whatever drinks they can right then and there and you wait for the rest at the pick up window (pictured). There is outside dining on the form of small tables on the sidewalk. I kept it simple and got the Smoked Salmon sandwich which definitely hit the spot! Not sure what Smoked Salmon they used, but I was pleased that it wasn't overly salty. The bagel was soft and fresh, and the capers (for once in my life) blended well and didn't overpower the other flavors. I'm not caper fan but wanted to order it as is for the review. Perfect portion size and the price was right! I look forward to trying the other bagel varieties as well as some pastries for my future visits. One of the best Smoked Salmon sandwiches I've had (and there are many) so Ovenbird Bakery is off to a great start with me! Check them out whenever you get the chance! read more
Came here on my last day but wish I came on my first! Got a breakfast sandwich on this amazing spicy fennel bagel. Also got a goat cheese sun dried tomato scone to go and it was very yummy. I also have two cookies waiting for me that I'm very excited about! The breads were beautiful and I really wish I lived nearby just to be able to take one home! read more
I live nearby and have been wanting to check out Ovenbird Bakery for a while but my schedule never lined up with their hours. I finally got the opportunity today and, man, oh man are they good!! Very quick and friendly service! They are incredibly organized for such a small space. Incredible menu options (I plan on coming back to try their coconut cream pie). They have outdoor seating available. I highly recommend this local spot! read more

Came here with my friends for a late breakfast/lunch. You order at the front and there are tables outside that are first come first serve. There is no indoor seating. By 12 pm on a Sunday they were all out of breakfast ingredients - so I would recommend coming before 10 am if you want the full breakfast selection. I will be doing the same next time lol. I got the turkey havarti with arugula and cucumbers on focaccia and it was amazing! The bread is super fresh and the sandwich is perfectly toasted. I also tried a few bites of the banana bread pudding and mushroom quiche which, were both delicious. Overall, I really don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu and I can't wait to come back and try more sandwiches/pastries! read more
Spectacular! I'm so impressed by this place, we have gone thrice in one week! Definitely one of my favorite places in Baltimore! And will recommend to any local or visitor! FYI... The line can get pretty long on weekend mornings, but it is worth the wait! Because of COVID it is one person inside at a time, so the line might look long but it goes fast. Getting prepared food takes a little while though. Menu Favorites: - Focaccia Bread (absolute favorite item, always stop and get some for a party, housewarming, get together etc. it's a fan favorite and everyone always gobbles it up!) - Sourdough loaf - Italian Loaf - Lox sandwich on the spicy fennel bagel (wouldn't typically go for this bagel but so glad I tried it, it's delicious - Chocolate chirp cookie (I was told that they hand shave the chocolate for these cookies!) - English muffins! (Perfect to take home for breakfast sandwiches or whatever!) - Grilled Cheese (simple, but delicious, they use a porous bread so the cheese melts through and gets crunchy on the outside, while gooey inside, so good) - Any pastry (duh!) - Savory scones! You really cannot go wrong here! I can't wait to keep coming back and trying more things on the menu! read more

The croissants are SO good! The scone is yummy but fluffier than expected which is fine cause it reminds me of cake and I love cake. The chocolate PB pie is really smooth and I LOVE IT although it was really sweet so I couldn't finish it all. The dulce de leche banana cream pie is not as good as the chocolate PB but still yummy. I wouldn't get the key lime pie again. My favorite thing is prob the tres leches cake because I love how spongy and milky the cake is. The sourdough is pretty standard and I prob wouldn't get it again because it's kinda overpriced. The cinnamon bun is also overpriced for its size and taste but it was yummy. Overall, this is my favorite bakery for sweets in Baltimore. We went in the morning (around 10:30 am) and there was only a short 1 person line. And nothing was sold out! read more

I'm from NYC. I've been to Paris twice. I've tried hundreds of pain au chocolates (chocolate croissants). I'm very picky. These pain au chocolates from Ovenbird are the best I've ever had. They are preposterous!!! The layers- the FLAKE- the richness....UNREAL! Their scones were excellent too. EVERYTHING looked amazing and the owners/bakers/ and staff should all be VERY proud of themselves. I'd give 10,000 stars if possible! read more

Would recommend!! Employees were friendly and more than happy to explain, to a first time guest, what treats were available. I indulged in a few things and brought some cookies home to my family. Everything was tasty and I could taste the passion and dedication. I hope to visit again. read more
I swear every visit is great! I'm really racking up the rewards points which you should sign up for if you don't already have it! I tried the Asiago bagel recently as I hadn't seen it before and WOW it was delicious. Nice and soft and super cheesy. I also always pickup a few English muffins - pro-tip, slice them and put them in the freezer if you don't plan to eat within a day as they can get hard quickly but then you always have delicious English muffins ready to toast. I will say I always get a laugh since my English muffin sizes have always been all over the place but regardless they always taste good! read more
