Stopped by Ovenbird and tried some pastries. My eyes were drawn to the cookies. The peanut butter infused and salted chocolate chip were my selections. The cookies were pretty decent. More on the crunchy side. The ambiance was quaint and I appreciated the open kitchen as you can see everything. The cookies were fresh and I did enjoy them. Beautiful day for a walk into Little Italy and so glad we did because we found this GEM of a bakery! Adorable with outdoor seating--! Had a sausage egg and cheese on an everything bagel-- loved the flavor of sausage, the beautifully cooked egg and oooey gooey cheese. The bagel wasn't my favorite-- not positive if it has fennel seeds or if the onion pieces were a bit burnt, just not the taste for me. My friend and I LOVED the traditional croissant!! I've been here multiple times when visiting from out of town, and Ovenbird Bakery has consistently delivered quality food and great service. The raisin croissant is delicious. Perfectly flakey and sweet, it's a home run. The coffee/espresso options are reasonably priced and will scratch your caffeine itch. Looking forward to returning! read more

What a gem! I love their seasonal lattes and bakery options. Unfortunately, they don't have the highest quality coffee but I have never been disappointed by the overall flavor of their drinks. Asked for three things and was told that they don't have any of them. No decaf expresso, fine. Then I tried to order iced tea and they apparently ran out of half the varieties on the menu. Ovenbird has the most amazing croissants/ croissant breakfast sandwiches in the laaaaand!!! I mean the buttery, flaky goodness of the bread is something divine. The raspberry cheesecake danish is also delicious and while the coconut mango thumbprint cookies are on the small side, they're noteworthy. You also won't want to skip a slice of Ovenbird's quiche or a strawberry Matcha latte. Sooooo good and probably the best bakery experience we've had in a while. read more

Ovenbird Bakery is a quick and casual bakery with an indoor ordering counter and outdoor seating. It has such high reviews and I was excited to try it. My experience fell short though when I didn't receive half the ingredients I thought I would get with my sandwich as the menu offered. I had come here prepared knowing what I was going to order after having checked out their online menu - the Turkey Havarti sandwich. It comes with cucumber, arugula and a garlic aioli on sourdough. I brought mine home to eat but there were no cucumbers or arugula, just the turkey, cheese and garlic aioli (couldn't taste the garlic though). This was really just a basic turkey and cheese sandwich. It was still quite good, just plainer than I wanted. There was plenty of turkey and the cheese was melted perfectly but just not what I expected for my order or what the menu promised. Kind of odd. Anyway, I would still come back here again and try some of their baked goods as people do seem to rave about those. read more

Stopped by and picked up honey pound cake ( butter pond cake drizzled with honey and a whipped honey topping) and a hazelnut fig shortbread bar. You want these... also got a goat cheese and green onion scone... perfection for a savory treat...however these are all mine and I'm not sharing! Friendly staff and brought out more items from the back when the case was empty! Some seating inside and a few ~3 tables along the Street. Came here knowing it was a local favorite. The staff were super nice as I was a first time costumer. I was on vacation so I didn't know much about eateries in the area. What an incredible spot! Okay, here we go: Let's talk wait time -- the other reviews say to go early to avoid lines and I'd absolutely agree with that. But we were lazy this morning. We got there around 11am on a Sunday and it took 20-30 min to get to the counter to order. The efficiency once you get there? Above par. They have a person on hand that only handles the items in the pastry display. Then you order any other items from the person handling the POS. Once we ordered, it took less than 5 min to get our two drinks and two bagel sandwiches! Drinks -- I ordered the Cinnamon Pear London Fog and my boyfriend got the drip coffee with pumpkin spice and a splash of milk. I don't think I have ever finished a drink as fast as I finished that London Fog. My goodness, it was delicious. My boyfriend is often hesitant to get pumpkin flavored coffee drinks but he says it's the perfect ratio of pumpkin to coffee. I allowed him only one sip of my London Fog....no more.  Savory Food -- I got the everything bagel sandwich with sausage, egg, and cheese while my bf got the same thing with bacon. We both agree that the everything bagel sandwiches are EVERYTHING. Even after the ~8 min walk back to his apartment, the sandwiches were still warm and soft and incredible. Beautifully baked bagels. Wonderfully seasoned.  Sweet Food -- We ordered the *very last* toffee pistachio white chocolate cookie and the honey pound cake. I can absolutely see why there was only one cookie left because wow, was it good! It had some salt flakes on top... chef's kiss! The honey pound cake was perfectly sweet. Not too much! I don't love pound cake but it spoke to me and it was certainly worth it.  Last words -- anyone that gives this place anything less than 5 stars is crazy and you shouldn't listen to anything they say. read more

We loved Ovenbird! The spicy fennel was such an interesting flavor and spiced so well! Getting it with just cream cheese was a great idea because it really allowed me to appreacite the taste of the bagel. The lox poppy bagel was also delicious. Next time I would love to try the Za'tar bagel! We loved the location as well and there were some tables outside the store, which faced out to a lovely view of the streets of Little Italy. Very underwhelming. My partner and I have tried this place a few times in hopes for better an experience, coming at different times and trying a variety of items. The goat cheese scone is hands down the best item. (I often get it at Los Suenos because I prefer their coffee.) There are two interesting observations I've made that confuse me as a bakery: 1. If you sell out of plain bagels first, your other options must be sub par. - i personally think the everything bagel is toooo seasoned. More is not always better. 2. You ran out of eggs before 12. Late review, but we came on a Saturday morning at 9am in late September, and there were about 5 people ahead of us in line. They allowed one party to enter at a time. I've heard they sell out of things, so definitely go early! We got a lox bagel, a croissant, chocolate croissant, spinach and egg quiche, the goat cheese scone and the cheddar scone. I'm SO happy I found this hidden gem while I was visiting Baltimore. It was one of my special highlights of my trip. The staff is so welcoming and friendly, greets you and ready to serve as soon as you enter the door. I arrived around 10am on a Sunday morning and there was a line around the corner. We waited for about 20 minutes, which was well worth it. Some of the baked goods were sold out but still got a chance to try one of their scones, chocolate chirp cookie, spicy fennel bagel with lox, and the dulce de leche banana cream pie. My favorites were most definitely the spicy fennel bagel with lox (haven't had anything like this before) it's so delicious (salty, spicy, savory all at once), just get it! Cute little bakery! Wish they offered some outdoor seating for convenience's sake, but it's not too far of a walk from eating spots by the water. The lox sandwich is amazing! Generous portions of smoked salmon. The texture of the bagel is a perfect balance between crispy and chewy. Fresh and filling. The everything bagel is also good-- smeared with generous amounts of cream cheese which oozes out with every bite Latte was alright. Better than your average Starbucks, but nothing spectacular. My wife and housemate got the sausage, cheddar and egg breakfast sandwich on a spicy fennel bagel and really loved it. My breakfast sandwich on the sesame bagel hit the spot. Eeeee this place was so cute and so worth the hype! They're very COVID friendly, so only one party ordering indoors at a time. I got a bagel sandwich and OMG IT WAS SO GOOD. The cheese they use is so high quality. I also got a chocolate chip cookie and ate THE WHOLE THING. So great. They add salt on top which just puts it over the edge. I'll have to come get another next time I'm in the area! FYI their tea is pretty standard, almost tastes like powder tea? So I would pass on that. But they had a delicious, tart berry lemonade, so I suggest trying some of their other drinks! I loved that they had a smaller menu, I HATE when there is a bajillion things to choose from. This place has a line out the door all day for a reason. The almond croissants are to die for. They have this amazing paste inside them and the balance with the rest of the flaky pastry is amazing. The goat cheese, tomato, and scallion scone was delicious too. Much more savory and crumbly. The chocolate croissant was very good, but I would much rather the more unique finds. I ordered the french baguette that morning and served it in the evening and it was gone quickly. The hot chocolate was the only thing I wouldn't order again, but not because it was bad. After seeing this place all over yelp, I decided to drop in for a quick lunch on the way home. GLOWS: 1. The Small shop has some great Covid friendly procedures. Only one person in the shop at a time. 2. There are a large variety of breads, treats, and specialty desserts for the given day. It's sooo easy to rack up a bill. 3. The service was friendly, and they assisted me in looking over their offerings and making a decision. 4. The caprese sandwich was really good!!! 5. Wife found this place within walking distance and braved the wind and cold to pick up brekkie; she didn't realize they didn't open till 8 so she waited for fifteen mins but a line quickly formed behind her; she initially planned to get the avocado toast but opted for the salmon lox on everything bagel, cold brew, and chocolate croissant. She said the staff was super friendly (and oddly excited she was getting cold brew without milk) she came back and chowed down; for someone who doesn't eat bagels she said she was considering going back just to get the bagel!!! Made it over to Oven Bird Sunday morning around 9 and was pleasantly surprised as there wasn't a line although it built up by the time I left. A small spot that somehow manages to fit an abundant variety of sweet and savory baked items with breakfast and lunch sandwiches. We ordered a few items to share. Lox With everything Bagel was excellent with the capers taking it over the top. The Goat Cheese and onion was our favorite savory scone although all enjoyed the Ham Cheddar chive also. The most popular Scone-Blueberry Lemon is a must try! This one I could have every morning! The breakfast muffin (freshly baked) sandwiches were also tasty. We got egg/cheddar with bacon and another with sausage. Our Baltimore Sourdough loaf was nicely balanced with just the right touch of sour. Perfect crust with a soft airy center. One of those spots where all the people are just having a good time. The lady who took our order was so upbeat, enthusiastic and welcoming! Prices are also super reasonable.
