Read the reviews and was looking for a solid Corned Beef sandwich spot so we got here around 2 on a Thursday afternoon. We visited after lunch thinking there wouldn't be a queue but we had about 20 ahead of us. This is more of a take out spot. They had chairs lined up which might have been for customers standing in line and I saw some tables/chairs randomly placed in the distance which I guess are for anyone who wants to eat-in? Interior could definitely use a refresh. We ordered a corned beef sandwich and took some Corned Beef and Pastrami slices to make sandwiches at home. Pastrami slices were ok. This spot is definitely about the Corned Beef. They make sandwiches the way you want it and have a variety of cheeses. I saw Turkey and their own speciality sandwiches on the menu also. Tasty Corned Beef and more of the fatty variety (which imho is tastier than lean) and some of the best I've had. Ordered the Hot Dog with everything. It was okay although I saw signs stating it was the best in Baltimore. Service was friendly. Street parking only and we found a spot right away. Cash only so bring the Greenbacks. What's good: the current beef. At least it was good in 2022. It was really good. Good enough that I was ready to check in again and see if it could live up to my memory. Figured my timing was perfect just before 11,, early enough to beat the lunch rush, late enough in the day for them to be open. I walked in and saw a modest line. No biggie. Then I looked up and saw a ginormous poster with a message from the owners praising the deity for their good fortune and pitching a book about someone's salivation or something. I know that Corned Beef Row is largely a memory, that Jewish-ish delis everywhere are having a tough time. I understand the need to adapt. But here's my bottom line. When I'm opening up my wallet for a corned beef sandwich, I have some basic expectations. 1. Meat should be great, of course, and the bread to complement it. 2. I have had Weiss on my to-go list for MONTHS ever since I craved a Reuben one day at work and went scouring the internet for a good local deli. I live right around the corner, and once, somebody yelled at me from his truck as I walked by Weiss that "Weiss has the best corned beef in Baltimore, way better than Attman's." Unfortunately, Weiss is only open 9am-5pm Mon-Sat, which is tough with my schedule, so I have been tortured every time I pass by the closed sign on the way home. I had to wait until when my partner picked up a Reuben for me a few weeks ago. The Reuben used just regular sandwich bread but comes with enough meat for three sandwiches. I wish that they used a thicker cut of bread to balance the entire cow that they slap between the bread, but as the random stranger claimed, the corned beef really is the best in Baltimore. I want to go back to see what the inside is like myself, but my partner reports that it's "like a warehouse," and they had quick service. Next time, I might bring the sandwich home and split the meat into two sandwiches to self-adjust the proportions. read more

When I arrived, they were receiving a delivery. At first glance, it seemed like the meat wasn't being stored properly. I went inside and placed an order, but the hot sandwiches were microwaved, which made me unsure about their quality. After purchasing my meal, I left my things on a nearby table and went to wash my hands in the restroom. To my surprise, I found mold growing all over the walls! I couldn't eat after that! Man when I say I've rode past this place 100 times & never went to it always electing to go to Attman's. A buddy of mines was like you have to try their Rueben it's different. When I say it wasn't a disappointment at all. It's a small old school truck stop setup. The only issue is it's located on a busy downtown street literally like a half a block away from Attman's so the parking at times can be an adventure but it's worth the circling of the block. The service was amazing all of your sandwiches are prepared right in front of you by a very friendly staff with tons of gloves so it's no cross contamination to worry about. Plus it was a great old school feel to the place with the oldies playing in the background. Plus they aren't stingy with the meat. When I say my Rueben was loaded it's one of those sandwiches you're definitely going to have to use 2 hands for. But the truly best part of it all is the Rueben, bag of chips, & soda came in for an unbelievable price of $19 & some change. I have pretty mixed feelings about this place. I love hole-in-the-wall spots and wanted to give this a try after patronizing the other jewish deli down the block multiple times. I got pastrami on rye. It was good - met expectations. It did not come with a kosher pickle which was a major bummer. The line to order was 15+ people long and moved slowly for no discernable reason. I guess plan for that. I originally ordered fries. The man behind the counter asked if I wanted them heated up. Red flag. Why are they not fresh or kept in a warm environment? I asked for clarification and he was going put them in the microwave. I don't think it's controversial to point out that microwaving fries is the absolute best way to ruin a fry. I canceled my fry order. I later discovered that they were potato wedges, not fries, so all the better that I canceled. I came here on the recommendation of a friend and tried not to judge. I have a cuisine standard in general, but in this time I want to support local more than usual. I'm very disappointed by the lack of attention to cross contamination of germs or allergies. They have a sign about ten people inside but do not enforce it. The floors, beverage refrigerators, and counters are visibly filthy. The gentleman that made my sandwich touched the previous sandwich meat/condiments, meat deli slicer, plastic utensils, microwave, paper, my condiments and my meat without changing gloves. the 6 minute drive home the brown paper bag was dripping oil despite foil wrapping. If this is the best in town... let's just say the RYE bread was the star. I cut off the bite I took gave 2/3 sandwich away to an undomiciled gentleman. I added a bag of chips, Diet Pepsi, and half of a pickle for a total of $13.72 (tax included). Kenny & Ziggy's and Katz of Houston can't touch Weiss in price, taste, and ambiance. We had a taste for a corned beef sandwich and wanted to try another spot instead of the usual one, Attman's Deli on Lombard St. So hubby looked up a different spot, Weiss Deli, located just down the street from Attman's, and we decided to give it a try. As we drove up to the place, it was located in a nondescript brick building, its only signage a weathered blue and yellow sign above the entrance, so it would have been easy to pass by. Upon entering, it was a massive space, at least three times larger than Attman's cramped space, including their dine in room adjacent to their deli, but at Weiss it was one big huge space. There was plenty of seating available and you didn't get that claustrophobic feeling you might get standing in that long, winding line and tables to close to eat at dining room of Attman's. There was NO line in Weiss, maybe because it was an early Sat. afternoon, perhaps? Anywhoo, we got in the line to order and decided to purchase corned beef by the pound, not per sandwich as we had some hungry mouths waiting for us back home and we could get more bank for our buck sandwich-wise with having to feed a few more folks. As we placed our order, a friendly older gentleman took the beautiful piece of corned masterpiece from its warmed casing, grabbed a sharp knife and gently removed some of the fat from it...nice! He then gingerly placed the cut slices on a bed of aluminum foil and wrapped that in the usual old school butcher's paper. Of course you can order sandwiches of your choice and sides such as salads, chips, soda, juice, etc, but we just stuck with the star of the show, the corned beef. Total time from placing our order to leaving (including a bathroom break) 15 minutes, unthinkable at Attman's. We could not waiting to get in the car before we slide that butcher's paper wrapped goodness out of the bag and opened it. We devoured a slice between us and the warmed, slightly salty meat was heaven to our stomachs. Just the right amount of fat clung the slices together to prevent it from being dry or greasy. Oh how we couldnt wait to get home to thoroughly enjoy our new found treat. We will see you again Weiss when those corned beef jones kick in again. read more

This is my favorite corned beef place anywhere. And I've tried a lot! And I love all of them! Well I don't know about all of them, but at least the popular ones, Attman's, Lenny's, Miller's, Edmart, Taneytown and more. This just happens to be my favorite. The flavor of Weiss' corned beef is savory, but not too salty. It's texture is definitely beefy and is perfectly balanced between being lean with substance and fatty enough to keep the juices dripping. I come for the corned beef so I don't focus too much on the bread, but the rye is soft and hearty enough to hold the sandwich without getting soggy and falling apart. It also isn't so thick or crusty that I'm swallowing mouthfuls of dough or cutting up the roof of my mouth. I've had the Cloak and Dagger, the hot dogs wrapped in fried bologne, the cod cakes, the huge pickles. All awesome. But by far my favorite is the "large" corned beef. It is really large. I will post pictures as evidence. It isn't as pretty as some of the others, but I like the couple that run the place, and the regular staff that fry the hotdogs, warm up my "fries" (western style fries that are probably the best I've ever had) and even ring me up. I agree with the other reviews about the location being simple/sparse and some of the interesting characters that may be around, but it is in downtown Baltimore so it comes with the territory. All I know is when I talk to people in line, there are much more police officers, grandmas and everyday workers here than the groups of guys in neckties or hurried secretaries that I usually see in the other spots.
