Low quality convenience store plus would be the best way to describe this place. There are a few groceries/household items here and it can come in handy in a pinch when everything else is closed but otherwise it's just another run-down convenience store. The place is really not clean and basically nobody inside (staff or customers) was wearing masks despite a city-wide indoor mask mandate. The prices here are quite high as anyone would expect from a convenience store and the products are all pretty low-quality generic brands. Unless you're very desperate go somewhere else. OK Natural foods is just around the corner, has a lot of similar items that are way better quality and lower prices. Plus it's a lot cleaner and everyone is always masked. If you can't get what you need there go to Safeway or Streets (each about a mile away). read more

11/29: I stopped in to grab some food and something to drink. I initially got the half gallon version but then inquired as to the difference in price between the full gallon. The bald cashier with the horrible attitude tells me that it's a $1.50 and that the gallon was 3.49. The half gallon was $2.79 he says. I say "So the difference is 75 cents?" He tells me that oh no, that's not with tax. So he charges me the $1.50 and then I do my math and figure I've been overcharged by a dollar. So I ask the guy with the mole how much the difference is and he scans the lemonade and then says no I was charged correctly since it was actually $3.99. So no biggie I'm wrong every once in awhile. Cashier dude walks down to the food area while dude is bagging up my food speaking their native language and slamming his coffee cup in the trash. I ask the dude cooking my food if cashier dude had a problem. He chuckles and says no he's fine and Moley chimes in saying cashier dude is just being silly. Meanwhile he's ringing some woman up slamming her things around so I ask them if they're sure. They laugh and say a fountain drink comes with the hoagie purchase. I go to get that and the guy who prepared my food comes over and asks if I'm good and I tell him that I'm fine and leave. Cashier is still slamming girl's things around. 11/30 (30 mins ago): Needed something to eat after the gym. Initially was gonna get a tuna sub until food prep dude grabbed the roll with no glove. I order the chicken tenders instead and head next door to get a beer. Come back and cashier has my bag of food in his hand eating a fry. He asks if it's mine and I say clearly. The food prep guy says no it's not my order and cashier carries it down to some dude who came in as I did acting as if it's his. He asks again if it's mine while laughing. I say no it's his now and leave. Filed a health department claim as I was walking back home and I will never patronize this place again. As a resident of this neighborhood, the story i have about my visit 2 days ago is very telling about the owners of this store. I came into the store to purchase snacks and a smoke. I choose some chips, they had a label of 3.99, which i was okay paying. When i got to the register, the cashier rung them up as 4.99. I pointed out the label, and he called another employee for them to check another item of the same type. That alone was cause for alarm but i stayed calm. When it was confirmed that i did not alter the price ( i come here all the time so not sure why i would) i let the cashier know that instead of my roughly 15 dollar purchase, i would only get the cookies i selected. At this point the cashier told me that the machine was down and i couldn't buy anything. There were several people in the store so i calmly asked "well if the machine is down, why are you only telling me?" They insisted the machine was down so i let someone in front of me, at which point they said "oh it's working again". I believe that reaction was rude, unprofessional and racially motivated. There are other options in the area where you can get better treatment and cost for the same material. Please avoid these people at all cost. read more

Generally a go-to place if you are in the area, but the diet Coke tastes like Monday morning; the syrup must have drained away into Chesapeake Bay. I certainly couldn't taste any sweetness there. There's a series of mendicants that hang out in front of the place making you feel very guilty as you walk out with your $2.99 cans of soup. One man outside begged me for some sustenance, so I said I would buy him a meal since I was having one too. He said he would actually prefer going across the street so I could buy him a meatball submarine "which has a much better taste." I was like, "Dude, I am getting a damn ham sandwich. You want one or not?" He smiled pityingly at me and demurred, "Daz okay." Another socio-economically challenged individual asked me to purchase him a Coke but insisted that it be a bottle. Man, do I look like I'm writing down orders? I got him a can and he didn't even say thanks. YOU'RE WELCOME. I should have bought myself a Twix bar or a banana. The service is generally good, neutral to indifferent but not impolite. One man urgently let me know that I have a "wide spot...up there" on my head as he was ringing me up. YEAH man, thanks. We order came to 7.99 for a 10in Crab Cake Sub and 1lb of Seafood Salad. The Sub was not good at all. The onions were not cooked which hindered whatever taste that there could have been but what made the sub really bad was that that crab cake had no flavor at all. They even had to remake the order twice. The only thing that made me give it a 2 was that the seafood salad was passable. The main issue was that the salad mainly consisted of imitation carb meat and I found very small, but not even enough shrimp. It was the dressing that made it okay. Neither one of these offerings would be something that I would rush to order or even want to order again. My husband wanted to save money when I wanted to order delivery. I am willing to bet that my delivery choice would have been way better. I have ordered from this place before and It was better, but this time was just awful. read more

On Wednesday, August 22nd 2018 at 6:25pm. I just had the misfortune and pleasure to walk out of this "place of business" with the understanding that I will NEVER spend my money here, ever. I walk into the store and was greeted by the listless stare of the cashier behind the counter. I could only ascertain that he didn't want to be there. I stood at the counter and waited 20 - 25 seconds until he acknowledged my presence, apparently I did not exist in his plane of existence. Interestingly enough when a young woman walked up to the counter, after me... The listless look disappeared and he sprung to attention. Somewhat taken aback, the young woman pointed out that I was there waiting before her "This man was standing here before me", she pointed out. Instead of following protocol and helping the customer who was waiting - he waved his hand cavalierly at me and proceeds to help the young woman. Somewhat surprised, I checked for understanding... Asking him: "So, you see me standing here, don't acknowledge me and choose to help this young lady despite her pointing out that I was standing there" His response? Acting as if I wasn't there, again. All that to say. My creased pants, ironed shirt mattered little to none, as it was apparent that my money DID NOT have the same value as the young woman. This phenomenon is not new to me. As this... Interaction has played itself out countless times over the course of my life. As a person of color - a fact which should matter little when currency and buying power are concerned. I WILL NOT spend my capital in a place where my being respected is seen as an encumbrance. The old adage of bad news traveling faster than good will certainly play itself out here. I will make certain to make my experience - echo so that others can take note of the type of people in the employment of this subpar business. Don't waste your money! Very much appreciated when I have to go to work at 4am on a Saturday; on my way to Penn Station, I'll often stop by and get some hot coffee. It's not anything to write home about, but it's there, it's open 24/7, and it gets the job done. I've never tried the breakfast sandwiches or anything behind the counter, but I'm sure it's good, because I've seen lines even at that hour for food (mainly because of the construction workers on the job building the new UB facility). That area really needed a 24/7 market - the only other alternative was the 7-11 on Calvert Street, which is quite a haul for some UB students. And this place's prices are much more reasonable. This is a great 24/7 convenience store that has more than just the standards from a 7/11 or gas station. I saw hookahs and tobacco for sale, ginger candies, various European and Middle Eastern chocolate brands you can't find in the U.S., seaweed snacks, and a pretty nice deli area, plus the usual assortment of junk food. My sister lives on St. Paul and I love the fact this place is in the area. The local residents and students are lucky indeed. read more

The breakfast food is okay but you know there are more breakfast spots on Charles street and the surrounding area. (03/05/2013) The University mini-market is a welcome addition to Mount Vernon, finally a 24-hour place to get your cup 'O ramen, sriracha, Cholula, detergent, coffee filters, etc. They've got a pretty good selection of the things you thing you need at a 2am Wester fries and canned soup run. Falafel in a pita is a good deal, tasty, freshly deep-fried, well-seasoned, sliced falafel balls in a pita schmeared with a mild hummus, lettuce, tomato, and way, way too many white onions. Moist chickpea mix, pretty good value. Looking forward to trying a few of the other hoagies, heard the chicken salad is the bomb. Yay, convenience! read more

This place is great.. and it's not an "overpriced 711" The store is open 24/7 and has a little stand to make subs and whatnot. They also make some typical breakfast food. They sell so much more than a 711. There's a big mostly greek section of dairy products. The aisles have a lot of Turkish foods and pickled vegetables. and ful medemes as well as boxed turkish delights. They sell hookahs. They have an icee-knock-off-machine. They sell ice cream in containers and by the scoop. The guys who work here are so friendly and all have a good nature. read more

We live in the area so sadly, we have spent far too much money here. That's what happens when you're craving bunch a crunch at 2 in the morning so you decide to run to University Market- which is open ALL THE TIME. Things I know they have: candy, cereal, cat litter, canned fish, ranch dressing, hummus, sushi, ben and jerrys, 40 varieties of chips, naked juices, pepto bismol, lottery tickets. Hot Food: They also have a grilltop so you can get a bacon egg and cheese bagel at three in the morning to soak up all that alcohol you've imbibed. I would recommend staying away from the "seafood salad" and the tuna because those have made me feel queasy. Prices: pretty outrageous but because of supply and demand, that's just how it goes. The prices are also a little confusing because soda and chips are pretty reasonably priced but anything that you would consider more "real food" like pasta sauce will be almost twice the price of what you would pay at Giant. Also- MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW MUCH YOUR ITEMS COST BEFORE YOU GET TO THE REGISTER! .... I'm not saying that the guys behind the counter purposefully do it because they are always really nice but one time, I paid $28 for two juices, fried mozzarella sticks, and a candy bar. Yes maybe my friend and I were clearly drunk, but when I thought about it the next day, he might have rung us up for six juices "by accident." My suspicions were confirmed earlier today: The woman in front of me got a pack of cigarettes and three cereal bars. The cashier said it was $19.86 and the lady says, Excuse me!? How much are these!? So then the cashier looks at his register and goes- oh sorry, I mean 14.40. It's just a few dollars, but those can add up! Overall, we love University Market because of its convenience but the prices are definitely high because they are taking advantage of all those lazy people (myself included) who don't have a stocked refrigerator. I found a fingernail attached to some skin in my sandwich at university market. The dude cut his finger didn't clean up and continued to make my sandwich. When I confronted him about it he said it was a piece of plastic even though his finger was wrapped in a bandage at that point. obviously they don't give a shit about the sanitation of their prepared food so you may wanna think twice before you order something there. read more

I used to live in Charles Village, right across the street from their other Uni Mini. After moving to Mount Vernon area, I was surprised by how "quieter" this one is compared to the one in Charles Village- perhaps it is the lack of drunk college kids after dark or its relatively new settlement here. Tried the Italian, pastrami, and pepper steak hoagies. Good as usual, although the very last pepper steak was made a bit sloppy. A good place to go to at night for snacks/greasy fare. read more

When Uni Mart opened near me, I was really excited that I didn't have to go all the way up to Charles Village for a good sandwich late at night and I ate a unimart almost everyday... But it seemed like once Unimart became a reality, I was really disappointed by it. The sandwiches, fries, etc are all pretty average (I would rather go to another one of the sub shops on the block) but Unimart is still great for late night drunk food (the chicken parm and nothing else). read more

This place rules. I go here almost every day. Amr is the best sandwich maker in the universe, he always has awesome sandwich ideas when I'm stumped (drunk) and I give him super complicated orders when he's waiting on a million people all the time and he works incredibly fast and he NEVER EVER GETS IT WRONG. Try his tzatziki, swiss cheese and hot sauce fries. Ok, I'm making this sound really gross but it's just because I like really gross food. Uni Mart also has delicious falafel and cheap awesome breakfast sandwiches and a great coconut water/weird soda selection, and beats out Sheetz as my favorite restaurant that is a convenience store. read more
