I thought this was a nice option for dining in for something nicer than fast food but not formal dining. You order at a window and bring your food to a table. They have a bar for self serve burger toppings and condiments which I enjoyed. We ordered the bacon cheese burger, veggie burger, fries and fried zucchini. The cheeseburger patty was slightly overcooked. The bread buns were above average. The fries were really tasty. The fried zucchini were decent. I loved that they had a vegetarian/vegan option. The soda fountains were well maintained and had a lot options compared to other restaurants. The value for the price of food was good and I would probably return a second time. We walk up and order 3 burgers, 1lb fries and 3 fountain drinks. Burgers- way over cooked/ dry. The burgers tasted like charcoal and was hard to swallow. The toppings tasted old and didn't help. Do not recommend I am genuinely confused at how anyone can recommend this place and/or write a good review. This is best compared to a frozen patty made at home and cooked to death. It was really bad, so dry it's hard to swallow. The flavor is ok. Fries- old, cold, old oil, soggy Fountain drink- it says coke but pretty sure it's not. Maybe flat RC? We ended up outside because the smell was too much. Extremely good food the hamburger meat is very juicy and you can pack it with as much as you want at the topping bar/condiment stations, the wings are a bit on the pricer side but well worth wht the flavor and amount of meat on each wing. If you like well done flame grilled burgers offered in several different sizes then this is for you. In the Chicagoland area this is a dead ringer of the old Fuddruckers. Order at the window, pick up your drinks at the bar, find a table and wait for your name to be called then pick up your order and head over to the condiment bar to dress up your burger exactly the way you prefer. Well, almost. During Covid, the bar with all the 'toppings' was condensed down to the minimum. Nearly everything was in a plastic container and proved to be extremely wasteful since you wouldn't use all that was in them. At best the meals here is just OK. The burgers were cooked extremely well-done and were as dry as could be. No matter how many condiments you added on nothing could take away from the dry meat and room temperature dry bun. Could ya throw the bun on the grill for 30 seconds to warm 'em up? On the plus side I had the $9 dollar grilled fish filet that was quite good and I would back there just for that. Oh, and the cold beer too. Something is wrong when you go to a burger joint and the fish sandwich is far better that the main attraction, which of course is the burgers. Four stars for the fish and one star for the burgers. Cold draft beer is always five stars. Oh and speaking of beer, they do offer 'pitchers' of beer but they're so tiny that they're really big glasses of beer with the spout for pouring. read more

At first it was a bit confusing walking in. If you go in through the north entrance you'll find the bar right away. You do have to sit yourself from what I could tell. It was our first time here so we weren't aware of how to order etc. however the bar tender attended us as soon as she could and took our orders. After explaining it was out first time she gave us the run down. You do have to get your own beverages and condiments. Which I personally loved. Now if you enter from the west entrance you will see the register and Can place your order there where they call you by name or order number once it's ready. There was a football game on so the vibes were lit. I don't watch sports but it's entertaining seeing ppl get emotional over their team. There is a 4% Charge if you use credit/debit, next time I'll be sure to take cash. The food we ordered was great and as mentioned the bar tender lady was very helpful and nice while having a bar full of ppl. Landmark restaurant in encanto, I haven't had a bad meal here yet and my wife and I have recently begun coming here after a 2 year hiatus. Family oriented with a laid back atmosphere. It's funny. I don't usually get a burger. I prefer the wings, fish and chips or the broiled fish sandwich. The service is very personable even when they are packed (which is usually the afternoons to early evening). I enjoy watching the morning nfl or the Wednesday night nba games here. I really dig the vibe, bar on one side, jukebox playing Tom Petty in the background, restaurant on the other side, with the open kitchen right there with the chefs cooking their hearts out. On top of ordering a couple of burgers, I threw a wrench in by adding an order of fish and chips, plus an order of bone in wings. Memories and comfort food. Original Hamburger Works in Phoenix has been here since the early 1970's. Reastaurant portion has not changed too much except for seating upgrades. You order your food and it is cooked to order on a mesquite grill. They call your name and there is a buckboard wagon that has been converted to a salad and condiments bar. We had jalapeno poppers and fries. I had the bacon cheese burger perfectly cooked. The mesquite grill really makes a difference. The wings looked good will have to try that next time. The other side of the restaurants is a sports bar with plenty of seats. Friendly place...need to bookmark this one. read more

This was my very first visit to this location. There was a 20 minute wait on Sunday. The outside seating was covered and spacious. The only gripe was while waiting outside, there was no mist system or floor fans, just a musician, playing for tips, while you wait in the heat. When my breakfast companion and I was finally seated, we were seating across from a counter that faced the kitchen. To our left was a tall wooden wall. For a first-time visit, I didn't like where we were and asked the hostess if she could move us. She did and got us into a nicely viewed booth. The wait for our order took 16 minutes. My breakfast companion had French Toast, topped with Sliced Bananas and I ordered The Popeye Omelet, which came with hash browns and 2 pancakes. My breakfast companion said that the French Toast was amazing but would have liked to have substituted the Sliced Bananas for Strawberries instead. My Spinach Omelet, was amazing and had great flavor. The hash browns were nice and crispy. The 2 pancakes came topped with a scoop of butter on top and were quite tasty. The restaurant as an whole, is quite small and could use more space in an upgrade. Business seems to be consistent enough to expand this location and make better efforts towards customers having to not wait outside in 115 degrees weather. I will definitely return but try to pick a day that doesn't include seating outside in the heat. Heads up this is no longer the case. Not only that but the size of the appetizer is the size of the french fry container from In & Out, so dont get your hopes up. When ordering also keep in mind you are also ordering everything individual as if you are with Johnny Rockets. They do have a combo with no subsitutions. A long time for a place that was empty. All 3 burgers were charred and over cooked. They were dry as could be and bland. None of us finished our meal, Bacon was under cooked and rubbery. Arizona fry's we're a bit undercooked and needed to be fried a min longer. My daughter was not a fan of the fish. It was not flakey, She knows her seafood and I trust her judgement. I got mine without the bun but may opt in for the extra carbs next time because they looked so good! There is like a little wagon that has all the toppings u could want.
