I love this place. I really dig the vibe, bar on one side, jukebox playing Tom Petty in the background, restaurant on the other side, with the open kitchen right there with the chefs cooking their hearts out. The aroma is wonderful and makes my stomach churn and moan with anticipation. Wood decor throughout creates this warm, comfortable ambiance and the copper table tops just top it off and add more character to the whole experience of the restaurant. The people working here have always been nothing but polite to me. Staff are always hustling to get their guests hot fresh food and drink in a quick manner. Kudos to all of the Staff and Management. I must share: So this night I choose takeout because I had worked late. I feel as if I am starving to death and I am craving one of "their" burgers. I walked in and up to the register to place my order "to go". It's 9:35pm and they close at 10:00pm. Personally, I do not like hitting up any restaurant right before they close, for many reasons. The main reason, is these people have lives outside of work and I don't want to be the reason that they have to stay late because of my self centered actions. My stomach had an agenda and there was no reasoning with it that night. Fortunately for my stomach and I, there was no issue at all. On top of ordering a couple of burgers, I threw a wrench in by adding an order of fish and chips, plus an order of bone in wings. I figured I would get a big no since it was about 9:40pm at this point. And I would have been fine with that. Totally understandable at this point in the game. Nope, not at all. No bad attitudes, dirty looks, eye rolling or passive aggressive comments thrown my way. Just great customer service. I was shocked, as I have very reluctantly become expectant and desensitized to such behavior from the employees of supposedly reputable companies. This was my very first visit to this location. There was a 20 minute wait on Sunday. The outside seating was covered and spacious. The only gripe was while waiting outside, there was no mist system or floor fans, just a musician, playing for tips, while you wait in the heat. When my breakfast companion and I was finally seated, we were seating across from a counter that faced the kitchen. To our left was a tall wooden wall. For a first-time visit, I didn't like where we were and asked the hostess if she could move us. She did and got us into a nicely viewed booth. The wait for our order took 16 minutes. My breakfast companion had French Toast, topped with Sliced Bananas and I ordered The Popeye Omelet, which came with hash browns and 2 pancakes. My breakfast companion said that the French Toast was amazing but would have liked to have substituted the Sliced Bananas for Strawberries instead. My Spinach Omelet, was amazing and had great flavor. The hash browns were nice and crispy. The 2 pancakes came topped with a scoop of butter on top and were quite tasty. The restaurant as an whole, is quite small and could use more space in an upgrade. Business seems to be consistent enough to expand this location and make better efforts towards customers having to not wait outside in 115 degrees weather. I will definitely return but try to pick a day that doesn't include seating outside in the heat. Deeeelicious! Went here for a quick lunch which it was not. I didn't realize it was more like a bar than a lunch spot. The food took a long time to come up because it was cooked to order. This place is close to where I live and the reviews convinced me to give this little place a try. My friend really loved his big burger and his cheap pitcher of beer, so he was satisfied. Me? We were in the area and remembered that we hadn't eaten at the Original Hamburger Works in quite a while. A mesquite grilled hamburger sounded good. We entered from the back where you walk through their bar to get into the main dining area. You walk over to place where they take your order and my usual has always been the Big One with cheese. The others orders were the Small One, and Great Big One. The Great Big One was ordered with bacon and cheese. I have always enjoyed all the items on the walls that at times take you back. Like the Nehi soda, Barq's soda, Carnation milk signs and so on. When they call your name you go pick up your order and head over to the condiments area and put on your hamburger whatever you please. Their frys have the skins on them which I absolutely like. I also ordered jalapeño poppers which are not hot but very tasty. For some of you that prefer chicken or even fish they have that for you as well. Those are very delicious if that's your thing. The bar that's part of this is actually very quaint. If you want to spend a Saturday afternoon having a brew and watching sports on the many screens surrounding the bar. It is located on the southeast corner of West Thomas Road and 15th Avenue. It has been a staple of this area and really accommodates Phoenix College which is right across Thomas Road to the north. If you ever go by here stop in and enjoy a good hamburger. Burgers are good if you can get "your burger" I watched at least 6 people get mismatched orders. I ordered onion rings, got fries, told them I had rings, gave them the fries back. 10 minutes later I went back up to see where my rings were. The gal said rudely oh we didn't charge you for onion rings. So I guess a burger and soda is now at about $20 so I just won't go back. This family lunch led us to the Original Hamburger Works. The menu was straight forward and offered a decent variety of food and sides. The burgers are served naked ( meat, cheese, bun ) and the toppings and condiments are added by you. They offer the standard toppings such as lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, etc. burgers were not over cooked, nor did they ask for a preferred cook temp. None the less, the burgers were juicy and flavorful, due in part of being cooked on a Santa Maria grill and mesquite charcoal. Bun was perfectly toasted, I likes me some toasted buns. :) The sides are good as well. I opted for my old favorite onion rings. Portion was good, fry was perfect. They do have a bar connected so alcohol is available if you sit there. All in all, if you want a good burger with classic faire, this is the place. I like the rustic decor as well. read more

What original hamburger works lacks in decor it makes up in delicious burgers. My favorite is the bacon cheeseburger small, well done on a wheat bun. The condiment bar has everything your burger desires and they have great unsweetened tea as well.
