Easy, inexpensive parking just down from restaurant. Seated promptly. Not crowded, plenty of lighting; seated in a spacious booth. Server brought drink orders quickly, and they never went dry. (Pet peeve) Started with the infamous bacon wrapped dates, burnt Brussel sprouts and fried calamari - complete with pieces of fried okra and jalapeno. We could have/should have stopped here. OMG! Huge portions and delightful taste! Ask for the garlic aioli. Our server remembered it when we were almost finished, and it would have been divine with the Brussel sprouts. Finished off with the French dip, which again, was large enough for 2. Made sure to add the mushrooms and onions. Loved the thin French fries, which I haven't had in years. It was suggested to go here for brunch and so glad we did!! We only had to wait around 10 minutes for a table outside on the cute patio. The menu had a large offering of breakfast, lunch, and brunch foods. It has a nice garage door open with a bar right there. Onto the food - first of all, $20 mimosa for the table yes please! We had to get the Brussels sprouts and yes - so glad we did. Also got the steak and eggs with scrambled and avocado toast with sunny side up egg on the side - every bite was perfect. Food was good! But even in our attempts to be seated we were so confused because it seemed like staff was ignoring us almost. We had a reservation, came in and told them we were here, and waited 20 minutes for them to show us to our table. From where we were standing, we saw them put six chairs at a table (our reservation number) but not clean it off or come get us at all. We continued to wait, other people came in and got seated while we waited, and eventually we just asked if that was our table and if we could sit down please. My SIL is pregnant and even I was getting tired of standing. We sat for another 15 minutes or so, and no one stopped by our table, so I asked the hostess if I could please have some menus for my family. She somewhat callously asked me who we were and if we seated ourselves-- and tbh if I wasn't already upset, I was after interacting with her. We finally got water and our waiter was great. Food made me feel less pissed. But what a waste of time being ignored at a dirty table, and being made to feel dumb when asking for help. read more

4 Stars but with some reservations. The decor was upscale and modern but the hard surfaces made for a noisy dining experience. Our meals were fine but prices are on the high side as is the noise level. We had the evening special - black cod done in a quasi oriental presentation. Very original but @ $42 not a bargain for a fish filet on a bed of rice. We also had one of their standards: the Trout Almondine @$30. Good but run of the mill and pretty bland. Wine is typically $12 a glass for a 6 oz pour. The bread pudding dessert ($10) was very good. Our bill was $122 without tax and tip. The noise level was consistently at 70 decibels which was loud enough to make quiet conversation difficult. Service was prompt and efficient. I gave them 4 stars but 3-1/2 would be closer to the mark IMO. I'd go back there but I don't see this place becoming one of my favorites. read more

Our Goodbye dinner was perfect... We had a perfect table by the window with a view of West End Chattanooga... very nice. They politely accommodated our wheelchair and our 8yo guest. We started with the Bacon Wrapped Dates... omigosh pure indulgence... so so good! I had the blackened Mahi with rice and mango salsa... delicious! Hubby had the special, a Cajun pasta that was terrific. We had a table of 7 and all had wine and cocktails for a few hours. The server was SPOT ON... always there for drink refills and checking on our meals. No photos of meals unfortunately. **** Headed next door to NIGHTCAP!! WOW I LOVED this extension of Gilman! With jazzy music and the perfect singer who sang Happy Birthday to our friend. The wine and martinis were great... but the desserts!!! The Tiramisu is scrumptious! The Madelines were good too. Will definitely be going back... telling my friends about it. I went two nights in a row during my trip to Chattanooga; the first night I got the Key Lime Mojito and the truffle fries; the truffle fries order is enough for 3-4 people easily!! I couldn't finish them. The mojito was delicious and Claudia was great, very attentive and helpful with my menu questions with the cocktails. Night two I went on my birthday and got a birthday creme brûlée with, I believe it was called, Dark Knight. Once again, Claudia was great and Allie was too! I ate at Old Gilman Grill 3 times in 1 month while on my work trips. Each time I ordered a glass of pinot grigio and a steak macro bowl with extra red onions. The service was always delightful and the staff are happy to make recommendations. However, when you're a creature of habit, it's hard to change! My meal was always delicious and flavorful. One time my steak was cooked too under and I sent it back to be cooked more, it returned without the egg which I had to ask for. A very minor inconvenience and nothing to turn your nose up at. First, the restaurant has an inviting and open layout as the outer walls were rolled up to open the restaurant to the outside. Plus a glasses in kitchen to enjoy the chefs at work. We were served a special tasting menu of the Crispy Brussel Spouts, a vegetarian bowl of white rice, grilled veggies, mushrooms, pickled onions with an whole egg and sauce similar to yum yum sauce on top; a delicious pasta in a creamy red- like sauce with sausage; and a chicken rolled dish with asparagus, mushrooms, and a delicious sauce. Everything was amazingly delicious! Although I couldn't find our sampling menu on the regular menu, I would love to return to try out items on the regular menu too. read more

I was able to get a table right away which was nice. It was kinda warm inside and I think because it's open to the outside and all the plants, there was quite a few gnats flying around my food. I ordered iced tea, prime rib, grilled asparagus and Brussels. My iced tea was in a small glass and it was hard to get a refill. Brussel sprouts had a good flavor but need a little more cook and balsamic. My grilled asparagus was literally just that. No seasoning no lemon just crunchy asparagus. Prime rib. Wasn't the best wasn't the worst. Had better and cheaper at Texas Roadhouse. This was quite tough. Ordered med rare. Needed salt. But no salt or pepper at the table. read more

We recently had dinner here, as our last stop on a week long roadtrip. Everything was amazing! Hunter was a wonderful server. He had friendly conversation, explained the menu, and helped us find a good option for our youngest child. He kept our drinks full and our food timed really well. We had the calamari (highly recommend!), wedge salad, steak and frites, macro bowl and kids burger. We finished with the chocolate torte. Everything was delicious; we cleaned every plate. If you're in the mood for a cocktail, the smoked old fashioned is a nice touch! We loved the comfortable seating, the window looking into the kitchen, and the open patio area. My husband and I had a fabulous time at Old Gilman Grill! It was our first date night out since having our baby so we wanted something upscale and special. This place delivered! It was so classy and stylish inside but not stuffy. We loved peeking in the open kitchen and seeing the chefs at work. We got a little table in a back corner so we could take in the whole restaurant, which was lovely. Our server (McKenzie I think) was so kind, helpful, and attentive. The food and drinks came out lightning fast for a Saturday night. I ordered the dark horse cocktail which was delicious. It was incredibly balanced and not too sweet with a hint of spice. It was also pretty in pink with a little crimped orange peel ribbon. We couldn't resist the calamari or the bacon wrapped dates to start. You can tell this place uses quality ingredients because the dates were real plump medjool dates. So good! Especially stuffed with that amazing gruyere cheese. The calamari was crispy and fresh. I could write a whole book on my entree, the gnocchi... WOW! This is the softest, lightest gnocchi I have ever had. I was blown away! It was clearly handmade with a perfect crisp on the outside. The creamy rich mornay sauce complimented it perfectly. All in all, everything was phenomenal. You can tell the chefs and bartenders take their craft seriously. A true culinary experience. For drinks... This was a good move. I think that the old-fashioned that I had was good, but I think that the reason that it was so good was because all the bartenders there took care of us and they had a lot of good conversation and interacted with us a lot. True enough we were the only people with the bar so they had time for that, but between cutting up and making fresh ingredients for their cocktails, they still came to have some conversation with us. That really made me appreciate the customer service. This spot was right across from my hotel so I wish I'd gone for food but the only thing I have to go off on is the drinks and a customer service but that was enough to get me back in next time I come back. read more

So delicious! Located directly across from the Westin Hotel in downtown Chattanooga, this is a popular spot that's open to the outside. Their patio spills onto the street and there's a big bar in the center. I ordered the grilled Scottish salmon and it came with roasted root vegetable hash, beurre, and fried arugula. The salmon was sooooooo good and was perfectly crispy on the outside. I really loved the sauce that it came with -- it wasn't spicy at all, but tasted almost like a new take on a tomato cream sauce. The potatoes weren't all the way cooked in my hash, so everything was soft but those. The rest of my family also loved their meals too and there wasn't a bite left on our plates when we were done. I definitely recommend getting a reservation beforehand if you're coming here on a weekend night. It gets busy! It also gets soooooooooo loud, so be prepared for that. I think that it would help a lot if they put soundproofing panels on the ceiling to stop the sound bouncing around on the hard surfaces. Thoroughly I enjoyed eating here while we were in town for a car auction. Everywhere was so busy, including here, and we were thrilled to be seated and served very quickly. Pretty upscale inside with a whole wall that opens to the street. I thought the Peach Cobbler Mocktail was incredible! So sweet and fruity; like a light smoothie with some bubbles. We tried the Salmon dip, which was a bit smoky and came with nicely toasted bread. It was very good. For my main I had the macro bowl which reminded me of a Korean Bi Bim Bap; the rice was sticky, the mushrooms were stellar, and the egg was cooked just right. I was a little disappointed with the salmon, though. It was good, but it just lacked some sort of wow factor to it. Maybe I should have ordered something else other than fish. The glass cases of mostly California wines toward the back of the restaurant were a nice touch for a couple of West Coasters. The butter wedge salad had the most delicious blue cheese dressing I've had in decades. It reminded me of my childhood. We also had the filet mignon with broccolini and bearnaise sauce--cooked to perfection! The chicken crepes were delicate with a yummy gruyere. Every dish presented well too. The smoked old fashioneds were lovely and the chocolate torte was rich and decadent, as a great out-of-town dessert should be.
