Love the food here, always fresh and creative! In a great location to walk around downtown. Staff here is fantastic, especially the bartender, Carrie. She is very knowledgeable and goes above and beyond to make your experience perfect. Check out Gilman, get the fried green tomatoes, and enjoy the patio. Be sure to sit in Carrie's section, she's amazing!

If you're judging Gilman only by the menu... you're already losing. Yes, the menu is solid--but if you know, you know about the secret smash burger. Crispy edges, juicy center, add bacon (non-negotiable), and suddenly you're dealing with one of the best low-key burgers in town. Smoky, savory, and absolutely worth knowing the password. The fries? Cooked to order, golden, and crispy the way fries should be--no soggy imposters here. The cheddar bacon potato soup was rich, comforting, and basically a warm hug in a bowl. And the Fig Apple cocktail? Smooth, seasonal, and dangerously easy to sip--blink twice and it's gone. Vibe is polished but relaxed, food is thoughtful without trying too hard, and everything hits exactly where it should. Gilman keeps it classy... with just enough insider secrets to make you feel cool for being there.

1/2 French Dip - sharing the love!

Cannot think of anything I disliked about this visit. Friday lunch with sis-in-law around noon. Looking for a place to eat on the road trip back to Alabama. Decided on this thanks to Yelp reviews. Easy, inexpensive parking just down from restaurant. Seated promptly. Not crowded, plenty of lighting; seated in a spacious booth. Server brought drink orders quickly, and they never went dry. (Pet peeve) Started with the infamous bacon wrapped dates, burnt Brussel sprouts and fried calamari - complete with pieces of fried okra and jalapeno. We could have/should have stopped here. OMG! Huge portions and delightful taste! Ask for the garlic aioli. Our server remembered it when we were almost finished, and it would have been divine with the Brussel sprouts. Finished off with the French dip, which again, was large enough for 2. Made sure to add the mushrooms and onions. Loved the thin French fries, which I haven't had in years. Great service, great food - would totally return.

It was suggested to go here for brunch and so glad we did!! We only had to wait around 10 minutes for a table outside on the cute patio. The menu had a large offering of breakfast, lunch, and brunch foods. It has a nice garage door open with a bar right there. Onto the food - first of all, $20 mimosa for the table yes please! We had to get the Brussels sprouts and yes - so glad we did. Also got the steak and eggs with scrambled and avocado toast with sunny side up egg on the side - every bite was perfect. If you're looking for a spot for breakfast lunch or brunch, this is a the SPOT.

4 Stars but with some reservations. The decor was upscale and modern but the hard surfaces made for a noisy dining experience. Our meals were fine but prices are on the high side as is the noise level. We had the evening special - black cod done in a quasi oriental presentation. Very original but @ $42 not a bargain for a fish filet on a bed of rice. We also had one of their standards: the Trout Almondine @$30. Good but run of the mill and pretty bland. Wine is typically $12 a glass for a 6 oz pour. The bread pudding dessert ($10) was very good. Our bill was $122 without tax and tip. The noise level was consistently at 70 decibels which was loud enough to make quiet conversation difficult. Service was prompt and efficient. I gave them 4 stars but 3-1/2 would be closer to the mark IMO. I'd go back there but I don't see this place becoming one of my favorites.

A favorite whenever I visit Chattanooga. The espresso martini is perfect, and they have a great wine selection. I love the scallops, but I believe everything on the menu would be delicious. Especially great if you can get a spot outdoors.

Went for Valentine Dinner and the ambience was great. Our waiter ( who they call Yo) gave great customer service and the food was amazing. We will come back again most definitely

Our Goodbye dinner was perfect... We had a perfect table by the window with a view of West End Chattanooga... very nice. They politely accommodated our wheelchair and our 8yo guest. We started with the Bacon Wrapped Dates... omigosh pure indulgence... so so good! I had the blackened Mahi with rice and mango salsa... delicious! Hubby had the special, a Cajun pasta that was terrific. We had a table of 7 and all had wine and cocktails for a few hours. The server was SPOT ON... always there for drink refills and checking on our meals. No photos of meals unfortunately. **** Headed next door to NIGHTCAP!! WOW I LOVED this extension of Gilman! With jazzy music and the perfect singer who sang Happy Birthday to our friend. The wine and martinis were great... but the desserts!!! The Tiramisu is scrumptious! The Madelines were good too. Will definitely be going back... telling my friends about it. Great job Gilman owners... this is an awesome little place with loads of ambiance, plenty of seating, inside and out, a very classy looking bar and conscientious servers. A++++

    Avocado toast

They are such a steadfast for me. I came in for brunch and got the avocado toast. Perfectly done! I am always impressed. The tomatoes...fresh,,, pickled onions...yum. Balsamic drizzle and sourdough amazing.

    Shrimp and grits

Can't recommend this cocktail bar enough!…read more We visited the bar late night while staying at the hotel and it did not disappoint. Despite clearly being short staffed and having a busy night - we were greeted almost immediately and encouraged to help ourselves to a seat. We sat at a table away from the bar (only one available) and a server came by to take our drink order. Before he could return, another employee - who was running food to another table - immediately came over to us after to see if we wanted to order food (which we did!). She took our order, then the drinks arrived and before we knew it the food was out and was incredible! The menu is quite limited - and even more so when you one of you doesn't eat meat - and yet we were able to make a meal out of 2 caesar salads, the hummus plate and the deviled eggs. And don't even get me started on the cocktails! We started with a Manhattan and an Espresso Martini that were perfectly crafted. And then for our dessert round switched to their signature Old Fashioned. Each one was better than the next! Thanks for an incredible time, Whiskey Thief. We will definitely we back!

At first, servers were scarce, but as I got up to go to the bar, the bartender must've seen me and was on his way. He took our initial drink order. At $14 per glass of wine, we just went for the bottle at $54 and a charcuterie board at $27. We are on vacation, so why not. The view is excellent. The weather cooperated. People watching from on high was fun, and the nature scenery was nice. Service was a little slow, but not an imposition, however, if it gets much busier, that could be a thing. We later learned they previously had a $10 cover, but we did not get asked for this and it must be a thing of the past, or I understand it is waived for guests of the Edwin Hotel (the bar's affiliated with the Edwin) but we had dinner reservations at Whitebird, the affiliated restaurant. The charcuterie was good with cheeses, cured meats, jams, crackers, etc. all in all, the star is the Al fresco seating and the River, and of course the company of my beautiful wife! So, go for outdoor seating and bring your own beau!

Considering we were 18 ppl he did a great job. We ordered oysters to share. I ordered the special bento box and my friends ordered the grouper, salad, hamburger egg rolls, serloin, filet and appetizer fish taco and many more. Food all came together and was very good. It was not cheap but we enjoyed the food and had a great time

It's not quite a 3 star but didn't quite meet a 4 star either. Let's start with what's great here…read more A great oyster program with delicious oysters from a range of East Coast locations. Wonderful cocktail list with well balanced, well made cocktails. I loved my old fashioned and others enjoyed their drinks too. Very nice, attentive service from the servers although they brought out the oysters without telling us what was what and service was at times bumpy. The interior is nice, with it feeling casual but somewhere you could bring a date. And we enjoyed the lobster cakes which were well done, nice sauce, without overwhelming the sweetness of the lobster itself. So that was positive. Where it failed: the tuna bites on regular and not crispy rice was hard to eat. It was good but a little unruly. The halibut piccatta was VERY dry, almost bordering on inedible. Their special, which was a bento box was not great. The flavors didn't go together and their sushi eggroll had cream cheese which is very gross. Their steak frites was fine if not that memorable. All in all, I would come back for their drinks and their oysters but not sure I would come back for a full meal here.
