Charming little Appalachian bistro inside The Hotel Chalet at the Chattanooga Choo Choo. The service was warm and genuinely great. Our meal was a split, my burger missed for me, but my wife loved the flounder special. Odd layout with the kitchen set apart from the dining room. This place was quaint and welcoming, very airy and bright, workers bustling around tending to customers, we had been seated by Jodi, she was our server, awesome and very tentative ,joyful young lady. Went to Elsie's daughter for drinks and ended up staying for dinner too! Loved the cozy intimate atmosphere and our waiter was so nice and attentive to us. The had a lovely NA cocktail of the day & a nice selection of drinks. Got a charcuterie board and it was nice but looked a bit like ingredients that came right from the store. The charcuterie board was amazing! The chile bacon dates were incredible! The smoked trout dip was fabulous! We also had world class service from Jodi!! She was sweet, knowledgeable, accommodating, professional, and a great face to the restaurant! She made the experience what it was and it was a 10 out of 10! Upon checking into hotel chalet we are informed by the front desk staff that if we ate at the hotel restaurant that we would get 20% off if we charged it to the room so that's what we decided to do. Very glad that we made the choice to eat here it is very charming, the patio is lovely and we dined indoors. The cocktails were tasty and our entrées were so good. I ordered the short rib Pappardelle the pasta sauce had a great depth of flavor, and it was a great portion and very filling. The staff were all wonderful. Ordered the Bistro steak with purple potatoes and spinach. The steak was ordered medium rare and was pretty much correctly cooked, however the flavor was a bit bland. At least it was edible. The potatoes / spinach combo was an unappetizing blob; gray in color and poorly seasoned. The potatoes were undercooked and the spinach overcooked. Seasoning was non-existent. If you're wanting a highly attentive server, this isn't it. Personally, I appreciate when a server knows when you need them and leaves you alone otherwise. Food is good/great. Does not live up to old reviews. Area was uncomfortably hot. Food was expensive but not particularly up to par. Burgers had two small patties and just thrown on the bun with a tiny amount of wilted lettuce. The fries were tastelessand not fresh cut, likely frozen. The founder was not a fllet but more a medallion. Salad were not consistent and not fresh tasting. The chicken added to the salad was overcooked and unseasoned. It was 5:30 on a weekend night and they were out of ice tea. I ordered an old fashion and to me, it was overwatered, without soda, and bland. It was the worst I've had in town. Overall the restaurant was very disappointing to all on our party of six. read more

Boy was this spot different, all in a good way. A funky little courtyard (a bit warm in the middle of the summer) which we chose to enjoy a glass of wine and a small bite with our friends before dinner elsewhere. The interior is just as cool. Interesting BTG wine choices, a neat little menu and overall a good spot. Service was very good and we got some background on how this tony spot came to be. I'm from out of town. I added this restaurant to our itinerary before we came to town based on the reviews. The experience was underwhelming. We came on a Monday, made a reservation and it was not so busy, maybe 60% full. The menu already has only about 6 entrees to choose from and they were out of the two items that I wanted to try. I settled on the steak which was the most expensive on the menu. An hour later our food arrived. The portion sizes are small for the money, the steak came with fries, and the fries were hard and cold. They tasted stale like they'd been under a warmer for too long. I requested hot fries and what I received tasted like the same fries as before, maybe refried or rewarded. They came out too brown and dry. They were also out of the ingredients needed to make the pear cocktail that I wanted. That was the third stoke for me. When you spend $150+ on dinner, you simply expect better. read more

I highly recommend the "Bartender's Choice" cocktail option--the staff is incredibly skilled, and the drinks they crafted were awesome. However, management needs to fix their highly deceptive checkout flow. The bar chooses not to bake Tennessee's mandatory 15% Liquor-by-the-Drink tax into their menu prices. When the bartender flips the POS tablet to pay, the system completely hides the itemized receipt. It jumps straight to a final total that includes a combined 24.25% in state and liquor taxes. To make matters worse, the screen presents ridiculous suggested tip options of 20%, 30%, and 40%--which are calculated on top of that heavily taxed final total rather than the subtotal. If you just tap a prompt, you end up aggressively tipping on hidden taxes. Come for the excellent cocktails and great bartenders, but ignore the suggested buttons and manually calculate your tip based on the actual menu price of your drinks.

People watching from on high was fun, and the nature scenery was nice. Service was a little slow, but not an imposition, however, if it gets much busier, that could be a thing. We later learned they previously had a $10 cover, but we did not get asked for this and it must be a thing of the past, or I understand it is waived for guests of the Edwin Hotel (the bar's affiliated with the Edwin) but we had dinner reservations at Whitebird, the affiliated restaurant. The charcuterie was good with cheeses, cured meats, jams, crackers, etc. all in all, the star is the Al fresco seating and the River, and of course the company of my beautiful wife! So, go for outdoor seating and bring your own beau!

The Market Vegetables were charred but fresh, vibrant, and seasoned to perfection, showcasing the best of what's in season. The Mussels à la Portugaise were the star of the show for me - succulent, cooked just right, and the sauce was something I could have happily had by the spoonful. I met up with an old friend I hadn't seen in a long time, and it was the perfect place to catch up. Our server, Jodi, was gracious and gave us plenty of space to enjoy our conversation without ever feeling rushed. The curated cocktail menu was so much fun--I had the pear drink, which was delicious. We cannot express how much we love this place! We come here every time we come to Chattanooga and would be perfectly happy eating all of our meals here every day. The entire staff is incredibly kind and helpful and genuinely joyful. Jodie was our waitress for this past trip and we left feeling she was more friend than server. I ordered the grilled salmon with spicy crab remoulade and my guy ordered the smoked wings with a side of fries. I was happy that I was able to select my own sides from the ones on the menu so I opted for the fried Brussels sprouts with maple and bacon and the buttermilk whipped potatoes. After a short wait, our food was brought out. This was truly one of the best salmon dishes I have ever eaten! The salmon was cooked to my liking, the potatoes were soft and fluffy and the fried Brussels sprouts were absolutely divine and perfect. The remoulade was a little salty but it may have been just been my taste. The potatoes helped with that so it was not a deal breaker. My guy was pleased with his food as well and I could tell he enjoyed everything he ate. We agreed that we would take this trip back just to eat this meal again. It was truly a wonderful experience, from beginning to end. I highly recommend trying this gem out! Pro Tip: The restaurant validates parking. If you park in the lot across the street, do not prepay on the app or online. Ask the servers at the front to validate to save the $18 parking fee before you order and within 15 minutes after entering. Unfortunately, we didn't do this and the restaurant cannot reimburse the money after you've already paid. You've been warned!
