It wasn't busy at 4:30 on a Wednesday. We got a seat on the balcony overlooking the river, the art museum and in the shade. Perfect. At first, servers were scarce, but as I got up to go to the bar, the bartender must've seen me and was on his way. He took our initial drink order. At $14 per glass of wine, we just went for the bottle at $54 and a charcuterie board at $27. We are on vacation, so why not. The view is excellent. The weather cooperated. People watching from on high was fun, and the nature scenery was nice. Service was a little slow, but not an imposition, however, if it gets much busier, that could be a thing. We later learned they previously had a $10 cover, but we did not get asked for this and it must be a thing of the past, or I understand it is waived for guests of the Edwin Hotel (the bar's affiliated with the Edwin) but we had dinner reservations at Whitebird, the affiliated restaurant. The charcuterie was good with cheeses, cured meats, jams, crackers, etc. all in all, the star is the Al fresco seating and the River, and of course the company of my beautiful wife! This place definitely has the "wow" factor when you walk in. The beautiful bar glowing from the sunset immediately sets the mood. If you want outdoor seating, get here early because space outside is limited. Inside, there's plenty of seating options with high-top tables, couches, and bar seating that create a relaxed atmosphere. We came mainly for the view and drinks, and the view absolutely delivered. Watching the sunset over the river was easily the highlight of the experience and worth seeing at least once. For drinks, we ordered Old Fashioneds and Margaritas. Unfortunately, both were just average and didn't live up to the setting or atmosphere. Service was also disappointing. The staff was not very attentive, and at one point we actually had to leave our table and go to the bar to find our waiter. I gave it high rating for the atmosphere and views. The food was ok ... I personally thought it was good wouldn't come for just the burger or the deviled eggs. The whiskey's and drinks are plentiful. The main attraction is the atmosphere and vibe. The hotel is loaded with wonderful art from a lot of local artist. Good tourist stop. The staff were friendly and welcoming... Great spot to have a drink and watch the sunset over Chattanooga! Their food is tasty, but I wish they would bring back their pretzels and mustard! That was one of the main reasons I liked going there and now they are off the menu! The atmosphere and drinks are still worth visiting though and the servers are always attentive! We sat out on the balcony with another couple on July 2nd. The waitress greeted the table after we had been there about 20 min. She took drink orders and it took about 30 minutes to get ours drinks and our friends never got their order. We had to go to the bar the rest of the night. The waitress stood and talked to a table a couple down from us many times that night but never came back to us. I asked to speak to the manager and he was too busy. I have reached out by phone and email and have not heard anything. We live locally and are very disappointed with whisky thief for not even apologizing for the bad experience. read more

Can't recommend this cocktail bar enough! We visited the bar late night while staying at the hotel and it did not disappoint. Despite clearly being short staffed and having a busy night - we were greeted almost immediately and encouraged to help ourselves to a seat. We sat at a table away from the bar (only one available) and a server came by to take our drink order. Before he could return, another employee - who was running food to another table - immediately came over to us after to see if we wanted to order food (which we did!). She took our order, then the drinks arrived and before we knew it the food was out and was incredible! The menu is quite limited - and even more so when you one of you doesn't eat meat - and yet we were able to make a meal out of 2 caesar salads, the hummus plate and the deviled eggs. And don't even get me started on the cocktails! We started with a Manhattan and an Espresso Martini that were perfectly crafted. We tried to go for burger week The place was busy but the service was awful. We were given water and told there was no tea at all. Server asked for our credit card when we placed our order. When the burger came it and the fries were cold. We had to ask for silverware and a napkin. Got no ketchup. When we tried to speak with the manager we were told they were short and she was too busy. Came for burger week but we have been before just for drinks. 1st off, the restaurant is dirty. There are cobwebs everywhere, and the windows and doors weren't clean, even though they just opened 15 minutes before we arrived. 2nd our waitress was anything but friendly. 3rd when we ordered drinks I guess they charge for ice! 4th the food, it's burger week so it's just a burger but it's not good. We had 7 people at our table and all were the burger week burgers but not all of them looked the same. Some patties were much bigger and onion rings were not the same size, some had huge and some had hardly any. It took awhile to flag a waiter/waitress down to get silverware and napkins. Also took some time to order another drink, this time with no $2 ice lol. When I asked for more water she brought over a pitcher and told me I can do it myself. The one pitcher didn't fill all our waters so I went to the bar, cuz the waitress couldn't be found, and asked if we could have more or if I had to fill it myself. This is when we FINALLY had a waitress that was attentive and she said she will get it for me. We are locals and used to love bringing friends and family who visit there but this was our last time. I've never been here before, but the girls and I had such a wonderful time. When we walked inside they told us that we can sit anywhere that's open. We arrived right after sunset and secured a table outside on the balcony. The views were so beautiful, the walking bridge was lit up and we had a nice view of the Chattanooga River. We all ordered drinks and they were very delicious. Our server was great, she was knowledgeable and tended to us often. We had other people check up on us often and made sure we were content. We also ordered food as well and I loved everything we ordered. We had the Garlic Parmesan Fries, Heirloom Tomato Burrata, and the Roasted Red Pepper Hummus. The Garlic Parmesan Fries were so crispy and delicious. We ended up ordering another for the table because they were gone quick. The Roasted Red Pepper Hummus was creamy, flavorful, and I loved all the options like cucumber, carrots, and naan that we could dip into the hummus with. There was a nice assortment of veggies. We didn't know what to expect with the Burrata but we were so pleasantly surprised. It was savory, the burrata was very light and smooth. All the sides we ordered were savory and at the perfect level. Food presentation was very nice too. I got a virgin mojito and loved my drink. It was delicious and refreshing. So whiskey thief is one of the best views you're going to find in a rooftop bar situation here. I think so at least. It has a good view of some of the city line and the water. If you look inside as you walk through the corridor to get to the bar, it is very eccentric and there's a lot of artwork and other things that are super creative. Each of the rooms that you pass, has its own little flair to it. The bar itself is dark and color but at the same time it's light and lit up because there's nothing but sunlight coming in. It's dark but it's open if that makes any sense. You have a lot of different areas to sit, you can sit by the main bar, or they have other couches around on the inside You can sit at as well. If you sit outside, that's also an option, and I would actually suggest that because it end of the day, you're there for drinks and views. Depending on what day you go you can do some live music as well so I would definitely suggest that. However, I did have a nice glass of Cabernet and then some mixed cocktail , that I didn't love but it was cool. The whiskey thief is a beautiful establishment. It reminded me of a a large den where you can have a bite to eat and enjoy a few cocktails comfortably. Nice lighting to set the tone for the evening. The rooftop seating is prime! This place is def back above board now! Ambiance - That mesmerizing view of the Walnut St Bridge and river is still there, takin in from a cozy table spot right outside the dining doors. Service - My dear friend and I met informative and nice wait staff while catchin up over some a flight or two last month. Food - Better than ever! Had high expectations of Whiskey Thief after reading reviews and looked forward to my visit there as a hotel guest. Gorgeously inviting decor leading to the rooftop lounge then to walk into a hot mess and a bit of a mayhem. I really wanted a table outside but was not sure if I could seat myself so went back in and saw the front desk guy hanging out by the bar, and he confirmed I could seat myself wherever I'd like. Went back out to sit at a table that was not yet cleaned then got elbowed and shoved by a girl who said she saw the table first. Staff watched and acted like nothing happened. Went back inside and sat at a high top scanning the menu. 20 minutes of no greeting or service later, I moved to a bar top. Bartender was great and noted they were extremely understaffed and slammed on a Tuesday as if it were a Saturday presumably due to Burger Week. Not Your Mother's Paloma with Jalapeño-Cucumber Infused Vodka had a serious kick and was delicious. Ordered the Burger Week special, which was a great deal at only $7 (plus $5 for fries). Shortly after, every guest started hitting up the bartenders to order food and drinks as their servers had not been to tables in forever. Then we heard the announcement kitchen decided to stop serving food for at least the next hour if not for rest the night as they could not keep up. Bartender reassured our food was coming to those of us seated at the bar. My burger looked great; I asked for ketchup and ranch then felt so bad for the bartender as no one from their staff would run to the back to get it for her. Took 15 minutes. The gentleman next to me asked for a napkin and silverware when his food arrived; they were completely out and he had to resort to paper cocktail napkins. The manager was standing there and didn't offer to run to the back to grab what was needed for guests. I'd have loved to stay for more drinks and enjoy the views from the rooftop patio if it weren't for utter chaos. Bartenders were doing their absolute best to keep on going and I wished they had some backup support from other hotel staff. And if you see a guest shoving another over a table, please do something next time. read more

So, it's burger week here in Scenic City, so the focus all week long will be BURGERS! WT may be the very best location here in Chattanooga, the views are beyond belief. While I've frequented the bar, and it is so very true to its' name, I've never eaten here. This was a great spot to start this weeks' event. The burger was spectacular and the signature drinks, with this view and the great service have put the participants that will follow in a disadvantaged position. Following dinner downstairs at the Whitebird of the Edwin Hotel, my wife and I went up to the top floor, where we enjoyed drinks at the Whiskey Thief. We were impressed with the dark wooden interior as we entered, giving us that exclusive feel I hoped we would experience. The bar has an even more spectacular view overlooking the Tennessee River in downtown Chattanooga. The bar is known for having an impressive whiskey selection. But being we were going to visit distilleries the next day; I decided to focus on cocktails for these post-dinner drinks as we sat at a table in their lounge area on the east side of Chattanooga. I enjoyed some lovely whiskey and tequila cocktails. The Real Baseball was probably my favorite between the peanut-butter-infused Maker's Mark, an Italian liqueur whose name I couldn't remember, and chocolate mole bitters served with a sphere ice cube. The Banana Club was splendid between the banana-infused Irish whiskey, strawberry syrup, and lemon served with a big-ass ice cube. Switching it up to tequila for a cocktail base, the Sorrento was smokey and citrusy between the inclusion of mezcal, Italian orange liqueur, and lime. At the same time, the triple honey syrup gave the perfect sweetness. I enjoyed the pineapple that came with the last cocktail served in a rock glass with a black-salted rim. The night was glorious during our stay at the Whiskey Thief on our first night in town. I recommend this spot if you want to enjoy the Chattanooga skyline during the day or at night. read more

My only complaint is that online it said the martini was $15, but on my bill it said $17; I definitely do recommend keeping the QR code online menu up-to date. First time here - not was expecting anything other than good cocktails and ambiance and was pretty much left short on both. On top of this our waitress was odd, some brunette that made odd comments and left us alone for far too long on a pretty much dead evening. I wasn't sure if the drink I had was good or not as I watched it sit on the bar for over 10 minutes as the ice melted into it. Our group was close so we all tried each other's cocktails - nothing special honestly. A mediocre to subpar old fashioned, a bar inspired disgusting tea drink, a margarita (that I didn't try) and my tequila drink which was named after the bridge and basically tasted watered down as stated above. The waitress made a weird comment when my fiancé went to the bathroom "I guess she isn't here - I'll take the drink back I guess!" Uhh what? Also, when I chased around the waitress to ask for my check, then followed her to the bar because she forgot her pen, I heard the manager say to the staff "make sure you say last call I'm ready to get the hell out of here." What? Saying that in front of patrons is just bad leadership - if you don't have the (spirits) don't serve them. Either way, expensive crappy drinks. We really enjoyed our visit! They don't take reservations and we noticed a lot of people ahead of us getting upset about waiting. The hostess Nyna was amazing! We had a little more patience so we sat in the loungey leather chairs had a drink and then moved outside- it was windy but what a beautiful view! You can dress up but also be casual Our server who (we didn't get her name) was awesome too. She really knew her stuff! Not many places you can say Service, Ambiance and Food all were good but this place does it. Just learn to read websites, and have some patience and you won't be disappointed if you have to wait.
