This was a cool experience that's different than anything else you'd see in Chattanooga. This is the only rooftop bar in the city (for now), overlooking the Tennessee River and Walnut Street Bridge and located inside The Edwin Hotel. On your way through the hotel and down the hallway, you can see a pretty epic collection of modern art which was really fun. We came it fairly late on a weeknight so we were seated right away. Service was a little stuffy and pretty much nonexistent, unfortunately. We had to order our drinks at the bar after a while because we didn't even know we had a server. When she did come by, it was obvious that she didn't want to be there. Maybe we just caught her on an off night but it was disappointing considering this is a higher-end place. The drinks were strong and well-made but we did feel the food was a bit overpriced. You have to remember that you're in a luxury hotel. I'm glad I took his suggestion as my wife and son snagged an outdoor seat overlooking the Tennessee River. It was a beautiful day for our visit. The service was impressive - we were led to our seat by the Hostess and greeted shortly thereafter by our Server who had menus in hand. Valet parking makes access a breeze when those familiar with Chattanooga know, parking can be a pain in the a$$ downtown. You can dine indoors in a very sexy, stylish setting or outside on the beautiful balcony taking in the incredible views. I highly recommend the balcony! It is a million dollar view! Sofas for large groups on the balcony, smaller tables, for groups of two or four or bar tops right on the glass railing. Any and all make for the perfect setting to have that romantic evening with that special someone, drinks with the girls, or guys with their buddies or as we had, a large group of family and friends. Staff was amazing! You of course have your server, but any other person on the staff who walks by checks on you. Perfect timing and not those overly attentive staffs that actually become an annoyance, or the lousy ones that drop off your order never to return. I have to say, they were perfect in every way!...which is expected and leads to my only negative....Bring your wallet because you're going to need it. The drinks are good, but not sure they are equal to what you pay for them. My favorite drink is an Old Fashioned. We had just had dinner at Hennen's a few blocks away and had two Old Fashioned cocktails with 12 year Weller for something like $12 each. The Old Fashioned at Whiskey Thief was $20 with a meh bourbon. They have a Chattanooga Whiskey cocktail that is nice at a much more reasonable price. I had both and would take the Chattanooga Whisky drink any day over their version of the Old Fashioned cocktail. My advice; choose your drinks wisely but do not miss out on the experience. This review is specifically regarding the new weekend brunch service that Whiskey Thief has been touting lately. To say that it is less than inspiring is an understatement. The entire brunch menu consisted of four items - a charcuterie board, a yogurt parfait, biscuits & gravy, and peach crepes. That's it. Nothing else. Not a single egg dish. No breakfast meats. No toast, muffins, croissants, or plain biscuits. No hot cereal. We ordered a yogurt parfait and the biscuits & gravy. The parfait was not, in fact a parfait, it was a lowball glass of 1c (not greek or anything interesting) regular yogurt, about 1/2c of berries and about 1/4c of granola already all mixed together. No layers, no textural distinction, so little granola that it might as well have not been there. The biscuits & gravy were two biscuits, split open, with gravy topping each half. The gravy was so thick, probably because it was served tepid, and there was so little of it, that I just picked up each piece and ate it like you would a biscuit with jam. We each had a soda with our meal, and the soda was also served in a lowball glass. That was fine, I don't mind a short glass, but the problem was that there was only one server and she was so inattentive that we often were sitting there with empty glasses for quite some time. Her inattentiveness wasn't because she was busy, there was only one other table occupied (and only by two people), it was because she would go inside and hang out and chat with the other employees. The view was beautiful, as always, and the new updates to the terrace deck are lovely, but I will not go here for brunch again unless I begin hearing through the grapevine that it has massively improved. What I would do is go eat somewhere else and then come here for a mimosa or bloody mary. read more

We went here on the Saturday before Halloween, so they had themed specialty drinks. I got the Hotel Cortes and my husband got the Leaky Caldron. Both were good, and his had dry ice that made it "smoke." We also ordered Pommes Frites (truffle fries) and they were delicious! While the drinks and fries were good, the service was lacking. The waitress suggested the cat's cradle. It had cathead Honeysuckle, Bonal, Scarborough Bitters, Elderflower Tonic, Rosemary, and Lemon. It was light and refreshing!! It was the perfect night cap to a fun filled day in Chattanooga. We also ordered an Aperol spritzer that was made with prosecco. I was not a fan of it. It was bitter and tasted too much like pink grapefruit. But if you like drinks that are not sweet, filling, and citrusy this may be for you!! The mojito was not good at all. It was extremely sour. Service: the hostess was very accommodating as we wanted to look at all the seating options before deciding. We came at around 6 pm so not a huge crowd. Not sure if my opinion of the service would change during a busier time but the waitress was very attentive. Food and drink: this was a before dinner cocktail and appetizer stop. The carrot cocktail is one of the best cocktails I've had in a very long time. I felt buzzed and healthy at the same time the hummus was actually really good. I've very picky about hummus and this had dried fruit and nuts on top. Delicious! What a great night!! We always stay at the Edwin while in Chatt and vowed that we'd visit their brilliant rooftop bar - The Whiskey Thief. If you are looking for a place to hold an event for a large group there are ample nooks within the space to hold conversations, as well as the patio area which is simply breathtaking! The extensive drink list comes in a mini book, so settle in and plan out your evening drinks. As we took in the scenery of the Walnut Street Bridge, the Hunter Museum and the Southern Belle riverboat rolling down the Tennessee river, we settled on a white wine and an old fashion. For desserts, we tried the buttermilk pie with elderflower and blueberries and cream and The Edwin Eclair. (I barely even got the pic because the Eclair was devoured in seconds!) My buttermilk pie was scrumptious until the very last bite as I savored mine a little longer than my fellow diner. :) Finally we decided to call it a night and strolled out to the rooftop lobby. How I missed one of the best places to hang, I have no idea, but there is a cozy reading book with fireplace that oozes charm. If it had not been so late, we would have started our visit here. Don't miss it on your way inside. Tip: try the cheese plate - it is as yummy as it is beautiful. The table ordered it next to us and we definitely has "cheese plate envy"! The oysters were some of the best we've ever had and the charcuterie was great. The sourdough had a lot of potential but was a bit too burnt to enjoy.
