Tonkotsu ramen broth was amazingly rich and lip smackingly thick with gelatin and complexity. The broth wasn't particularly fatty just deliciously seasoned and rich and unctuous. The noodles were thin straight noodles with acceptable chew but standard Sun fare. Shrimp karage was delicious. The mayo based sauce was not cheap tasting and the pickles balanced out the day in the shrimp fry. They arrange the shrimp into a circle lollipop your thing that was dense but the shrimp meat was succulent and tender underneath. Prices were on point and the service was attentive and responsive. Seating is ample and there is a large bar in the middle for single diners. We had two young children and the staff was kind and accommodating. They do have high chairs. The kids loved the ramen as well. Pro tip bring pens to draw on their walls. They have a graffiti wall setup that could use some artwork. I wanted to try a new place so I looked on Yelp and it turns out there's a new ramen place in town. Easy online ordering through Toasttab. Order pickup was a breeze. I went with the Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen. When I arrived home I inspected the package. The broth was in one container. The spice bomb was in a small condiment cup. The noodles, pork, and egg were in another. The broth was very rich and smoky before adding the spice. You could tell they roasted the bones very well and may have burned them a little. A+ on the plain broth. The spice was a bit disappointing. You can tell it was fresh made from the sauteed onions in it. Definitely not reconstituted chili paste. It was very weak in terms of kick after adding it to the broth which was barely pink with the spices added. The noodles were typical and the egg was ok. The pork was marinated and nicely charred. It did not come with seaweed, diced green onion, bean sprouts, or other additions. Was the food good and a good deal? Ramen is a unique experience and every chef has their own touch so it depends on what you are looking for. More enjoyable than Samurai Ramen nearby which closed recently. The broth is better than what Samurai Ramen had. Jinya is a step above in terms of quality, and the ingredients, but it's also pricey relative to Okiboru. Jinya also has the hottest Spicy Tonkatsu I've found in the area. The broth is red if you order a 5/10 spicy. Kumai has the least expensive Spicy Tonkatsu in the area and it's spicier than Okiboru. Among all the places in the area I rate the Spicy Tonkatsu somewhere near the middle in terms of value per dollar and enjoyment for the tastebuds. Your preferences may be different and it may or may not be for you. The menu does look interesting and I look forward to exploring more of the items on the menu soon. read more

I've been to the Okiboru location in Sandy Springs many times so I was very excited to try this new location in Duluth. It did not disappoint!!! We loved everything we got: Paitan Tsukemen (their main Tsukemen dish), Spicy Tonkotsu ramen, truffle garlic edamame, ebi karage, and the brussel sprouts. All of these were delicious! The Tsukemen and ramen were both excellent and I really enjoyed the ebi karage even though I usually don't love fried food. The breading is so light and the pickles that come with it are perfect. The edamame here is the best I've ever had so I always get that. It was my first time getting the brussel sprouts but I was very happy that my buddy ordered them b/c they were excellent. Pro Tip: The broth for the Tsukemen is intentionally thicker and saltier than the ramen broth b/c it's for dipping. However, after you're done eating your noodles, you can add hot water to the leftover Tsukemen broth for an excellent bowl of soup to finish off your meal. read more

Tried this restaurant tonight with our family and the food was great. Environment was casual/informal and they had what appeared to be Japanese rock or punk music playing. Staff was attentive and did a great job. We started by sharing a garlic nori fry which came with a really nice garlic aioli followed by individual tonkotsu and spicy tonkotsu ramens. The pork chashu in them was exceptional. My Okiboru's Old Fashioned cocktail featured a Japanese whisky and had an interesting smoky quality to it. Have had this dining in and delivery. Both time having it delivered, I got severe asthma attacks after having the spicy original. Might be an ingredient in the spicy paste. Another time it was so spicy I was sweating after the 3rd bite. Poor quality control, which to me implies poor management. My daughter sent me a Tik Tok video featuring this restaurant earlier today. I had lunch here at the Duluth location this afternoon. It is tucked in the shopping plaza at the intersection of Pleasant Hill RD and Satellite Blvd. I was warmly greeted and seated. The restaurant is not very large, but it has a good Japanese vibe. I ordered the okiboru pork and chicken buns with cucumbers which were fresh and tasted delicious. The spicy tonkotsu ramen were fresh, the broth was rich and flavorful. Very good ramen. I typically order the spicy tonkotsu, and I absolutely love how minimalistic it is. Broth is also delicious, and the amount of pork you get is fairly generous. The reason I knocked off two stars is that now when you order the spicy tonkotsu ramen, they give you the regular one with the spicy sauce to the side, no exceptions. I tried adding an extra one (which they charge you for btw), but it's still not the same. Adding the sauce cools the ramen down, and it's not nearly as spicy. Flavor is also not as deep. It's such a shame since everything else is pretty much perfect. Unfortunately, I'll have to look for spicy tonkotsu elsewhere. read more

I really wanted this to be a five star restaurant. It is good for Atlanta, which for me is not very good in general in quality dining compared with other large or medium cities (Portland, OR; New York). We ate at the Duluth restaurant. Service was good, buns were good, fries were good. The 'wraps' are a slice of pork on a pickled radish, but they are particularly well presented and delicious. Pickled cucumbers need attention. Its just chopped up cucumbers, vinegar, and sugar. The tonkatsu pork ramen is good, but way too salty. I am ok with salty and this was still salty. It is also so minimalist that you wonder if at least a vegetable or seaweed add on could be offered. Noodles are good, and better for sure than large chains, but there is also still room for improvement. At least there is no neon colored garbage in their ramen. Still, excellent overall execution. I hope the place fixes its minor shortcomings. Go try something! read more
