I've only been to Japan about a dozen times to film and write about food content a minumum of 2 weeks each time. So, I can only vouch for my experience eating Japanese food to state that the tsukemen at Okiboru is just like what I have eaten in Japan, specifically the Kansai region. Being that I prefer tsukemen over ramen, dipping sauce over soup, over the years, I have definitely eaten my fair share of this type of noodle. The broth is a thick gravy that is meaty and dashi-rich at the same time. Not too salty, although slightly bitter at times. What really stands out at Okiboru is their thick and toothsome tsukemen noodles. The texture of these noodles alone keeps me returning. QR code menu and friendly service. This place is located outside of Mall of Georgia near The Cheesecake Factory. I came on a recommendation by a friend. We met on a Friday night for dinner. The place was basically empty so we were seated immediately. We ordered Tonkotsu and Tori Paiton. I asked for chili oil once our ramen arrived and it was a 0.75 charge. The chili oil looked wildly suspicious and when we taste tested it was not even good. 0.75 wasted. The ramen broth for both lacked flavor. Also while we were mid bite the waitress proceeds to come over and ask if we wanted to add anything else, we said no thank you. Then another waitress approached ready for us to pay our bills. As if we were not even half done our bowls. I'm unsure if this is the usual for them to rush the guests up and out. The place was half empty and they were open for another hour and a half. We've been to Okiboru plenty of times at the Duluth location. We took a break since they recognized us so frequently, and low key felt embarrassed . However, I know for SURE the Duluth version is WAY BETTER than the mall of Georgia version, which this is the Mall of Georgia version. They did not cook this with love in my opinion. Not only that but I recognized they didn't have the mint lemonade I had at the Duluth location, so I guess not all locations are created equal? I mean clearly based on the food quality between both places. I will say, to my knowledge when I was first introduced to the chain, the sandy springs location was PEAK. Depending on where you go, they could be busy. Mall of Georgia on a weekend was not surprisingly and Duluth is a dice roll. Normally Sandy Springs I believe is always busy. read more

Okiboru recently opened at Mall of Georgia and it is located right next to The Cheesecake Factory. Me and my husband visited for dinner on a Monday night and it was super chill. Service was really quick and even though we had one designated server there were other servers/hosts constantly checking on us and making sure we had everything we needed. For starters we ordered the Okiboru Buns which are Bao buns and we ordered it with pork. It came with 2 for $9.50 and we thought they were okay. Honestly we've had better but they were not terrible. My husband ordered a Whiskey & Pineapple cocktail that I can't remember the name of but he really liked it. I ordered a ramune which is a Japanese soda and I was so glad they have those cause they're so good! For our entrees we both ordered the Truffle Shoyu Ramen but I got it with Pork chashu and my husband with chicken. It also comes with a soft boiled egg, spinach, chives & thin noodles. The broth itself AMAZING!! Super rich and flavorful. My problem with this place is the portions. Unfortunately I still felt kinda hungry after eating appetizers & ramen :( it was also suuuuper cold inside!! But other than that it's a really cool place for a quick lunch/dinner full of flavor! My first experience with Okiboru was at the Buckhead location earlier this week. There I tried the Tori Paitan Ramen and the Ebi Karaage and both were delicious. The creamy chicken broth of the ramen and the umami mayo + pickled cucumbers served with the Ebi Karaage were a game changer! It was such a remarkable experience that I couldn't wait to try the Mall of Georgia location, which happens to be right across the street from my FAVORITE ramen restaurant (PAOPAO Ramen Factory). So I excitedly popped in for lunch. Since my favorite ramen @ PAOPAO is the Tonkotsu Ramen, I thought I'd order the same here to see how it compares to what I consider to be the best. [ THE FOOD ] Okiboru is truly a masterful broth maker, and the pork chashu was excellent; tender and flavorful. But I will echo the sentiment in my review of the Buckhead location: "It would have been nice if there were more toppings included, such as sweet corn or crispy onions." In comparison to PAOPAO, it's just a tad boring in terms of toppings, and while the ajitsuke tamago is good, PAOPAO's is amazing. Make no mistake, the Tonkotsu @ Okiboru is delicious, but not delicious enough to dethrone my favorite. I decided to also try the Crispy Goyza, even though I REALLY wanted to order the Ebi Karaage again. I must say I didn't really care for the Goyza at all and the Shoyu dipping sauce was, IMHO, too strong. It came with five fried dumplings, but I could only stomach two of them before abandoning the dish completely. I would have liked to order a soda, but I couldn't bring myself to order a $2.50 12oz can of coke instead of a refillable cup. TONKOTSU RAMEN (4 STARS) | $15.50 + .75 for spice on the side CRISPY GOYZA (2.5 STARS) | $7.50 [ SERVICE / ATMOSPHERE ] The interior is much larger than the Buckhead location and also more attractive. Service was fine, but there weren't many diners during my visit. Parking will vary depending on the busyness of the mall. The entrance is just off the concert stage courtyard behind The Cheesecake Factory. [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] My absolute go-to when visiting Okiboru will forever be the Tori Paitan Chicken Ramen and their Ebi Karaage shrimp appetizer. The chicken broth is truly exquisite and something I will crave often! The Tonkotsu Ramen is very good, but takes a back seat to the Tori Paitan. I do plan to try other items such as the Okiboru Buns, Ika Karaage (Calamari) and can't wait to sample the Tsukemen since I've never had a "dipping ramen." I also hope they will allow me to order the pork chashu in the Tori Paitan instead of the chicken karaage. I think that would be a tasty substitution. read more

We had no plans to eat at Okiboru tonight, but as we were searching for something out of our routine, and were walking up to the Mall of Georgia, we happened upon the "Now Open" banner hanging outside the door. We decided to check it out and get a feel for the vibe. We were welcomed in before we got to the entrance, which was a nice change from some chains we've been to lately, but we've been disappointed with a few Ramen experiences so we weren't certain. The host sat us and was very kind when we explained we were just looking. Cut to us meeting our server and ordering a Crispy Gyoza dumpling appetizer to check out the food quality and being blown away!!! The taste?? They're dumplings! How good could they be? Well, let me tell you! Best freaking ever! So the decision was made! Two fat white butts in the seats! Our server, Kevin, was incredible! He helped us with questions and we picked different dishes so we could sample different tastes. HOLY WOW. This is RAMEN, folks! As someone who knows how to make ramen, I'd say the tonkotsu broth is close to what you have in Japan. My suggestion though for the price you ask, is to add some more of the garnish. Instead of a sliced egg, give a whole egg which is usually what you get in a real ramen place. Have some more toppings, nori, green onions. Taste wise, 9 out of 10. Price wise, you can do better.
