Ramen usually stays off on my radar as unless the store reeks of cooked pork or thick soy sauce fumes, to me you are using readily available factory products, period. And I haven't had one experience going thru that in the metro Atlanta or maybe every ramen shops here have a great exhaust system built in. It def is quite seldom to find a legit shop that practices these old ways of doing things right. It was quite hard to tell if this shop cooks its own broth and noodles or uses soup paste and premade noodles readily available from Japanese food distributors - I will stay naive and believe that they either seem to cook their own own or sup up the OMP with custom ingredients for that grade up. They gave me the option of adding more spice but I declined. The tempura brussel sprouts were pretty tasty also. The chicken with my curry was ok with the broth but not as much by itself. My boyfriend really likes this place, mostly for the Ultra Spicy Ramen. I got my go-to ramen at any Japanese restaurant... the Tonkotsu Ramen! They allow children to scream/bellow within the restaurant while telling non/limited-hearing disabled adults that there is nothing they can do about it. We have been going here since 2020, mind you. The diminished food quality is already enough to stop coming here. The fraudulent management is even more reason to stay far away. Awful music that drowns out the person across from you. This restaurant is well known for first dates or college hangouts, but go anywhere else if you want to hear people you're eating with. They also have a manager who insists on allowing children to scream inside of the SMALL, CONCRETE ROOM, which echoes. When my husband left a silent 1 star review on Google, the manager lied, stating, "We do not tell disabled children to be quiet in a family restaurant." 1) This is a ramen bar that serves alcohol. 2) Children do not get the god-given right to use tables and chairs as monkey-bars. 3) The staff allowed the children to run up to me and my husband and grab stuff directly off of our table. 4) I am *actually* disabled in several ways, I just HAPPEN to be born with a decent face. 5) When the children screaming interfered with my hearing aids in a negative manner, the manager angrily refused to listen. I am writing this review on Yelp, as they removed my husband's review on Google Map's umaido page weeks ago. I've never been treated so badly after 6 years of patronage. We were quickly given water and we had to scan the QR code to see the menu. The Spicy Miso interested me and my friend got the Tonkotsu. It took about 15 minutes for the ramen bowls to arrive and it looked DELICIOUS! Honestly, it was good. The egg, the broth, and the whole concoction tasted great. We came here for ramen to try somewhere different. The waitress was friendly but pushy (gen y or x) . Ambiance old rustic tables with an Oriental motiff. Music was blaring and noise level loud! Anyway, as for the lunch the ramen was very good. I got the chicken broth with bean sprouts, Japanese fried chicken and kimchi. Kimchi is good for my gut but this was too spicy! Stopped by after 10+ years because I heard the food had gotten better and because I was curious to see why there was always a line here. FOOD: Takoyaki ($8) - Comes out in 8 pieces. Nothing too special about it and it's a bit smaller than other places, but tasted fine. Seafood Ramen - Spicy Level 2 ($15 + $2) - I got the all seafood broth and was pleasantly surprised with the taste. The broth wasn't fishy at all, which I appreciated. The spicy oil really elevates it as well. I would say the spicy oil is the type that builds up and gives a kick at the end. The noodles were also great, thin but with a chewy bite to it. Unfortunately, the stars of the dish, the squid and shrimp were so bland. They are slightly fried, which adds texture, but not seasoned at all. It definitely underwhelmed the entire dish as a whole. SERVICE: Service was good. I waitlisted on Yelp with the app, but there is also a tablet in the lobby to add yourself to the waitlist. It said to check in with the host, but there wasn't a host to check in with, so we just waited in the lobby until someone asked us our name. Our server was attentive and was quick to refill our waters. What a great ramen place right under my nose!! Wow! In the building next to H Mart a friend of mine recommended this place has the best Japanese Ramen around. Small place but uniquely inviting and great service and selection of spicy and original Ramen dishes. My son got the spicy miso which was really good and I got the Tori Sio with fried chicken on the side spicy and it was a great dish as well. Bottom line: I would come back. Not the best but not the worst. Decent price. Atmosphere: Mid-light, spacious, not too loud Food: No physical menu so I can't share. Each table has a QR code that links you to the digital menu on your phone so you can just look it up. We got the $4.50 Hirata Buns (pulled pork with scallions, onion, and Mayo in a steamed bun) for an appetizer. The pork had decent flavor, but the bottom of my bun was very soggy. My companion got the $13 Tonkotsu Ramen for her entree. I wasn't very pleased. It looked good but the flavor wasn't that strong at all. You can pay an extra dollar for "rich broth", but that seems a bit sleezy to me considering how bland it was otherwise. I got the $14.95 Ultra Spicy Ramen Level 2(basically just a spicy tonkotsu). This was a great level of spice for me. Great kick while still enjoyable. This had much better flavor than the normal tonkotsu because of the chili. P.S in the Ultra Spicy Ramen: The menu advertises three levels of spice, but the restaurant offers up to 100 levels In both of our bowls, the fat from the pork belly was super tender as was the meat, but the meat came apart very fibrously which I didn't find as pleasant as the "melt in your mouth" texture that you usually get with a good bowl of ramen. I did, however, like how they gave each of us an entire egg rather than a half egg which is the standard from my experience, although those eggs didn't have much flavor from the marinade either. Service: Our waitress was very prompt with us. She visited our table frequently to refill our water and make sure everything was fine. Our food came out very quickly as well. Overall: I would come back again. The food wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. It was average, and the price isn't too bad either. P.S. Be careful opening the front door. Umaido is such a gem and so worth the drive all the way to Suwanee! The restaurant is in a pretty packed area and is pretty small, but the vibes are so cool. Definitely get there early or make a reservation! Our waiter was super chill and gave great honest feedback on the food, and I ended up settling on the spicy ramen level 1. I think I could test my limits and go to 2 next time, but 1 was the perfect option for low yet super flavorful spice. The noodles were their special pink spicy noodles, and I thought it was unique how all of their noodles are a different color/flavor depending on which bowl you order.
