Tenya chicken Udon Japanese Curry Mazemen
Talesha C.

I came here on a Tuesday evening while I was waiting for the doors to open at Eagle Eye Bookshop to attend the Ashley Poston book launch event. The staff was friendly and helpful with deciding what to order. The pork gyoza was tasteful and delicious. Very palatable. The Tenya chicken Udon Japanese Curry Mazemen was so good. I love udon noodles because of how thick they are and it was perfect. Loved the pieces of potato I got to eat throughout the dish. The breaded chicken was cooked well and moist inside. The curry sauce paired perfectly with everything. I look forward to the next visit.

24hr Braised Pork Chasyu Bowl

I brought my son and daughter here for lunch on a Sunday. The place is clean and spacious for the small number of tables for dining in. I saw a couple get take out which seems popular. Prices are reasonable and I enjoyed my miso udon soup with fried tofu. My son got the 24 hour chasu pork bowl which he liked. Daughter got spicy ramen soup which she wished was spicier. Staff is polite and brought our food to us. I would recommend this local family owned business!

Tenya is a great place to stop by for a quick bite that won't break the bank! The menu is very short & simple serving fried chicken/tofu sandwiches and different types of Japanese rice bowls. I ordered the Chicken Katsu with Tenya Sauce which contains Japanese slaw and cucumber pickles and paired with side of Tenya Furikake Fries. Also ordered soy eggs to try! The fried chicken was great and not overcooked, and was even better with the refreshing taste from the slaw and cucumbers. (This type of sandwich is most likely better while eating at the restaurant rather than ordering by UberEats or Door Dash since it can potentially become soggy by the time it gets to you.) The side of soy eggs were also great and the yolk was runny - just how I like them! This was enough shared with a friend to keep me satiated until my next meal. We were the only ones at the restaurant at the time so we were able to get our food within probably 10 minutes. It's a cute little restaurant with natural lighting and they sell additional Japanese convenience store snacks.

I'm still loving this place! There aren't a lot of Japanese street food spots around, and this place is a rare find. The food and its quality are still on par. The prices are so so, but isn't everything nowadays? Tenya seemed to have expanded their inventory to snacks and drinks. Their menu is still solid imo.

YALL, COME HERE AND TRY IT! If you are craving some authentic Japanese cuisine. This place is a MUST-TRY. The workers are friendly, place is clean, and they sell various drinks, snacks, desserts and entrees. We got their [24hr Braised Pork Chasyu Bowl] and [Cold Soba Noodle Sesame Salad]. [24hr Braised Pork Chasyu Bowl] * This dish is a 10/10 for me. The pork cut itself is high quality, the colesaw was delicious, the radish is sour and sweet, and the egg, rice and sauce all come together harmoniously. [Cold Soba Noodle Sesame Salad] * My girlfriend loved this dish and so did I. The noodles are chilled, fresh and clean taste. The tenya chicken is fried to perfection. Crispy skin and juicy meat on the inside. It is also topped with the delicious radish and some cucumbers. 10/10 Overall, this place is a must visit from me. They also provide soup with the meals too!

Japanese Curry Chicken Rice Bowl

Such a cute, casual Japanese shop with great food! We picked up from Tenya a few days ago and got the curry rice bowl and the katsu sando. Both tasted super good - the curry rice bowl had so much flavor and the katsu sandwich sauces were perfect with the chicken and slaw. The fries were also seasoned well, and I tried some interesting Japanese drinks too. Since it's pretty close to me, I'll definitely be coming back here if I'm craving Japanese food but not sushi or ramen!

Tenya Japanese Eatery, located in N. Decatur, offers a boutique style dining experience. The staff members here are incredibly hospitable and kind. From the moment I walked in, I received a warm welcome and helpful information about the menu. To begin my meal, I ordered a delightful combination of miso soup, Tenya fries & furikake. The fries were prepared fresh to order and came with a special mayonnaise sauce imported directly from Japan. For my main course, I selected the Gingeryaki rice chicken bowl, which featured tender chicken paired with flavorful rice, Japanese's slaw, tenya sauce and pickles. It was a delicious and satisfying choice.

That pork chashu rice bowl is amazing. I like simple dishes and it's a very simple dish but it's well done. The egg and veggies make it look pretty but I came here for the pork. It's rich, flavorful, and excellent on rice. Chicken katsu sando my wife ordered was good too but it needed some type of sauce. The fries were extra crispy and had some furikake seasoning on it which is nice. Furikake seasoning is my crack. I can't think of a food it won't enhance. Would I come here again? Yes. When I'm craving some pork on rice. It's the best pork on rice in the area.

Excellent service, very friendly and helped guide our choices. The place was clean, orderly and about half full. Ordered the Gyoza, Japanese Curry Rice Bowl, Gingeryaki Rice Bowl, water and a Bottle of Tea. The Gyoza took awhile to come out, and when it did it was cold which isn't what we had in mind. In addition 2 of the 3 chicken pieces of the Curry Rice Bowl were tough. Otherwise good flavor, everything else was hot and I really liked the breading on the chicken. However, at $40 everything needs to be on target and unfortunately it wasn't.

Chicken katsu sando w Tenya furikake fries, and 5pc chicken tenders
Alyanna T.

Average rating came out to a 3.7, and I've rounded up to 4 here. My partner and I ordered the pork chasyu bowl, 5pc chicken tenders, and chicken katsu sando w Tenya furikake fries - TASTE: 3/5 - the pork chasyu was good, and the slaw and katsu sauce were nice in the sando, but we were overall expecting a little more flavor TEXTURE: 4/5 - the fried chicken paired w the super soft bread hit the spot for me in my sando! The side of chicken tenders is fried btw PRICE: 4/5 - decent prices, this came out to ~$30 SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - satisfied us for lunch, and we took the chicken tenders home SERVICE: 3/5 - we ordered at 2pm on a Saturday. Although we were one of the few folks inside, our food took 20-25min ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - clean and minimal decor, and we enjoyed the lofi music playing! PARKING: 4/5 - good amount of parking in the plaza strip

Udon

It was tasty. I liked that the udon showed as spicy and actually had a bit of a kick to it.

SANDO Curry Sauce Chicken with grilled instead of fried chicken
Nisha B.

The food was good but had some limited vegetarian options (my preference is to order vegetarian!) There is tofu available but it was fried so I didn't consider it to be a healthy option! I ordered chicken as a back up plan, specifically the curry bowl. It has some tasty components to it, I wish there were more vegetables in the dish. However the staff were friendly and allowed me to substitute my dish with grilled chicken vs. fried chicken. Not sure if I would be back but it was good for one time!

Has Tenya stopped using Door Dash? The past couple of times (today/now one of them), I've gone to Door Dash to order delivery, Door Dash says Tenya is closed right now! Yet Yelp and Google both say the restaurant is open right now. Anyone know?

Sorry for inconvenience. Yes we are open . And you can order by doordash, ubereats and grubhub.

We were first offered a comfy seat in the middle of the restaurant, but I asked if we could have a cozy corner table instead. The staff gladly accommodated us. After just a few minutes, they let us know a table in the back had opened up, and we immediately agreed. It ended up being the perfect, quaint spot for our dinner date. I had my usual seafood mix along with edamame, soup, and salad, everything was fresh and delicious. My husband enjoyed a beautiful assortment of sushi, which he absolutely loved. Sushi Avenue is simply amazing and continues to impress us even after four years of being loyal customers. Sushi Avenue is a beautiful gem! While I could write all about our amazing dining experiences in house, I'm going to make this a "to-go" review because most of the time, I am picking food up from here to eat at home or elsewhere. Bento Box lunch deal- BEST DEAL ever! This lunch deal comes with soup or salad, rice, edename, broccoli, and an orange Slice. You choose 2 of the following: California roll, gyoza (veg, chicken, or pork), tempura (shrimp and veg), or teriyaki chicken or salmon. The portion is so filling! My order is the veg gyoza and the teriyaki salmon. Both are super flavorful and I usually don't finish it all. My teens go for the sushi of course! The other items that we love is the Octopus salad (which they only offer in the evening when available), eel roll, spicy crunchy tuna roll, super veg roll (for me!), north roll, scorpion roll, miso soup, and the green salad with ginger dressing. Honestly, everything here is great! This is a true "locals" spot. We usually pick this up and bring it to the park to eat it.

The decor and atmosphere really make you feel like you've been transported to a lively izakaya in Japan--it's the perfect spot for sharing a wide variety of small plates. The Tapas & Kitchen: * Ankimo (Monkfish Liver): This was a standout. It was prepared perfectly--rich, velvety, and a great start to the meal. * Grilled Highlights: The kitchen really excels with the grill. The chicken skin is crispy and decadent, and the chicken liver is another major hit--perfectly cooked and full of flavor. * Seafood Favorites: My wife absolutely loved the steamed clams, and the grilled oysters were a hit as well. The octopus salad was also very fresh and well-balanced. The Sushi Bar: * Fish Selection: The quality and variety here are impressive. We ordered a mix of rolls and nigiri, including scallop, sweet shrimp, and tuna maki. * Quality: Every piece of fish was notably fresh. The only minor critique was the sushi rice--it was a bit dry for my personal taste, but the quality of the seafood more than made up for it. * Snail (Tsubugai): It's great to see more unique options like snail on the menu; it's a nice touch for those who appreciate traditional Japanese variety. The Experience: The menu is huge and well-rounded, offering something for everyone. Despite being our first time, the service was efficient and the pricing felt very fair for the quality and portion sizes provided.

Service? Excellent. Ambiance? Relaxed and enjoyable. Food? Oh...MAN. Wow…read more.. I came here about 8 years ago with the same family members +1 family friend and we enjoyed dinner then, but it truly didn't compare to this visit. Previously, I had Kang Nam slated as an overpriced, but decent sushi place that serves meals on a more robust scale if you're dining with a party. However, the sushi back then was somewhat underwhelming. Last night, we had a phenomenal set. Hamachi, Otoro, Unagi, Ebi, and more! Every piece was delicately balanced and beautifully arranged. Honestly, I wasn't really expecting too much going in- and I'd only chosen Kang Nam as a place where I could get some decent sushi while my family got something else entirely. My mom had Don Katsu (served with a small dish of Japanese style curry sauce). My uncle got the Tempura Udon, of which they served the tempura shrimp on the side in a bed of tempura flakes. This is kind of genius, because you can make the decision on when you want to dip in your tempura instead of them bringing it and you have to down the tempura fast in order to still have it be crunchy... NOT HERE! It stays crunchy since they serve it separately. Love that. We had refillable banchan: kimchi, king oyster mushrooms, and glass noodles- all of which were delicious. We all received bowls of deliciously simple miso soup and we ordered a set of fried dumplings. Everything was great! That is...until the sushi came out. Wow. Presentation: 10/10. Flavor? 10/10. Portion-size: TEN OUT OF TEN, Y'ALL. The sushi rice was fantastic and they didn't use too much like a lot of places do with their nigiri. The toppings were functionally decorative. The sweet shrimp was especially pretty with two different colors of roe on top. The yellowtail didn't need the toppings it had- green onion and fish/squid flakes(?)- in my opinion, but they added a dimension of texture to the initial bite and a hint of flavor to the finish. The fish was perfect in every way: not too thick, no too thin, overlapping the rice by double to allow for perfect soy sauce dips without soaking the rice, and I just CAN NOT EXPLAIN how good each piece was... The sushi rolls were so delicious and every bite had wonderful textures and flavors, but my absolute favorite roll was the one with the smoked tuna on top- WOW! Absolutely stunned. Never - EVER - have I actually tasted the smoke flavor so clearly and completely. I am a HUGE fan of that one and I can't even remember the name of it...it's in the picture on the plate behind the sweet shrimp. The eel nigiri was also a highlight for me- as it's one of my favorite pieces of sushi, I always order several pieces. I was happily surprised to see they were nearly twice the size I get at other restaurants. Hands-down, the best otoro (fatty tuna) I've had in Atlanta. The sushi chef here also believes in giving special service by preparing some extra pieces for the customers as well. I only ordered one set of otoro, but next time....oh my...my bill is gonna hurt next time. Each 2-piece set of otoro is set at $17, so...yeah... It's going to be SO WORTH IT though. I will 10000% be back- soon. I might just get some Otoro, Hamachi, and one of those smoked tuna rolls...man. SO. RIDICULOUSLY. GOOD. Get in there if you haven't been in a while. Trust me!
