Tensan Ramen Review
got to try Tensan Ramen, and I have a few thoughts!
Black Tonkatsu Ramen - 8/10
The flavor was definitely there! The broth had a nice depth to it, and overall, I enjoyed the taste. However, my biggest issue was the pork. It was extremely fatty, and unfortunately, that made the ramen a little awkward to eat. There was so much fat throughout the pork that it took away from the overall experience. I personally prefer pork that has a better balance of meat and fat, where you can actually enjoy the texture without having to work around the fatty portions. With a little more attention to the cut and preparation of the pork, this could easily be a better bowl. The flavor definitely has potential!
Mess Roll 4/10
The Mess Roll consisted of tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. As someone who genuinely loves sushi, I was excited to try this one. However, I wasn't completely sold. The tuna was so overpowering that it overshadowed the other fish. Instead of getting to appreciate the individual flavors of the salmon and yellowtail, everything seemed to blend into one dominant tuna flavor.
Presentation-wise, it felt more like a bed of rice topped with fish rather than a sushi roll that allowed all the ingredients to complement one another. I'm a huge yellowtail lover, and with Omakase Table being one of my favorite sushi spots, I naturally have a pretty high appreciation for well-balanced fish and flavor combinations. Unfortunately, this one was just okay for me. I wanted more contrast, freshness, and an opportunity to taste the different characteristics of each fish.
Overall: Tensan had some good flavor, but I think there is room for improvement in the execution of both dishes. I'll always appreciate a restaurant that gets the flavors right, but texture, balance, and how the ingredients complement one another are just as important to me! read more
