I stopped by this restaurant after watching a comedy show nearby around 9 PM on a Saturday night, and was so excited for some Thai/sushi for dinner! We were quickly seated as soon as we walked in, and immediately noticed the inviting and brightly lit interior. After being seated, the feeling of excitement was eventually replaced with great disappointment. The server asked for our order literally 2 minutes after handing us the menu and seemed...annoyed. As I was scanning the menu I was taken aback by the prices! It was so much higher than I anticipated for the types of food and for the amount or quality of food served to us. We ordered the Lotus Blossom ($11) to start and Pad Thai ($20) as the entree to split. We were given the Pad Thai first, and the serving was a lot smaller than $20 worth. The shrimp was undercooked on the inside and had the squishy, slimy texture that made me lose my appetite. After that plate was done, I had to ask for the starter since they clearly forgot the order. The Lotus Blossom is just 6-piece shumai and was cold. Aside from the disappointment that I felt from the meal, what annoyed me the most was that they were cleaning the restaurant as if they were closing in the next 5 minutes. We left the restaurant at 9:35 PM and there were people being served in another room who seemed like they were having a grand time. Mali set the bar for all Thai food for me! Everything was delicious, so much so that the Basil rolls and Tom Kha soup didn't make the pictures. Ma Li is a gem of a neighborhood Thai restaurant and has been around for many years, which is usually a sign of quality in Atlanta's competitive restaurant scene. The staff is always welcoming and attentive whether you dine in one of the main dining areas or at the bar. The vibe is "nicer casual" and it's the versatile kind of place you can take a date for a nice meal, have dinner with friends, or grab a timely business lunch. As for the food, I measure Thai restaurants by their Pad Thai (it is the national dish, after all) and Ma Li shines with their version: fresh noodles, subtlely sweet sauce with peanuts, and tender chicken and shrimp; it's probably my favorite in the city. They also have an expansive menu with many Thai staples and also offer sushi if some in your group wants something different. The adjacent parking lot can get crowded on the weekend, but being in a neighborhood this is not an issue as ample street parking can be found a short walk away. Our church women's ministry group wanted to host a year end dinner and we chose Mali and they did not disappoint! From accommodations of the number of guest, to a customize menu, to great service, tasty food, and great drink drinks. It was an excellent evening and a wonderful choice for our group. . We were able to sit downstairs in the large dining section, and everyone was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was from the appetizers to the main meals . Had a lovely dinner here last night! Sat in the busy upstairs area where we were able to watch the football game near the bar. Tables are close together in this tight space but not too close to where you can hear others conversations. It was a very cozy atmosphere and good escape from the cold. We had the Tom Kha Soup to start which was more lemony than other Tom Kha's I've had, which I really enjoyed. Plenty of chicken and mushrooms in the soup. Also, it's labeled GF which is always very handy! Next was the Spicy Tuna Roll, which was spicy enough to catch my husband by surprise. 6 pieces for $13. We had the Panang Curry for the main dish to split and it was plenty of food for both of us. Of note, this is also labeled GF! It was 2 chili pepper signs on the menu (indicating medium) and the spice definitely hit after each bite, but it was not overwhelming. The pieces of chicken were really large and the curry was so delicious - also it was plated beautifully. Only downside was that each additional rice portion (which I forgot to take pics of) was $4, which was pretty steep. The serving that accompanies the curry dish is not nearly enough for how much sauce is served. But in terms of taste, the rice was truly cooked perfectly. It was definitely busy so we had to wait a bit of time to order our meal and for water refills, but service sped up over the course of the meal. Will definitely return! read more

I have lived in ATL for over 30 years - and have wanted to stop by here at least 100 times over the last 10 years or so.... Finally I did - this restaurant is so tastefully decorated and lovely inside the atmosphere feels very upscale. The staff is generally very gracious and accommodating. We started our dinner with Basil Rolls and Chicken Satay - both delicious choices and so fresh, I love Basil Rolls with peanut sauce.... Frankly I could just east that for dinner with a glass of wine....all good. But of course the litmus test for me is Pad Thai - shared a portion with my companion and it was delicious, it did not disappoint- they used a much thinner noodle than I prefer for this dish, but that is obviously the family recipe here and it was really good. I think it's worth a visit - it also looks like they have some awesome sushi choices also and it's freshly made right there - always fun to watch. Go and enjoy! read more

I wanted to love this spot -- but, we were largely ignored. A very sweet senior server had to ask another server to take our order (which was rushed). No one followed up, or asked us about drinks or the next course... But others had wine, etc. We sipped out waters, ate our sushi, watched others be attended to and finally left, very disappointed. I could eat Thai food every day! But, on this particular evening, both Thai and sushi sounded like a great idea for dinner and I really wanted a Lychee Martini. After searching Delta Skymiles Dining, I saw that Mali was listed as an eligible restaurant ( 3miles/$1 spent). So, of to Virginia Highlands my husband and I went. Even though I made a reservation, it wasn't needed as the restaurant offered enough room for everyone. They have a nice covered patio, bar seating and, standard inside tables. Just note that due to the fresh ingredients for the sushi, there is a faint smell of fish. So, if sensitive to smell, you might want to sit outside. Kevin was our server for the evening and he provided great standard service. For food we ordered: Thai Basil fried rice with chicken ( not on menu) Spring rolls Shrimp tempura roll Everything was delicious! The Thai Basil rice had huge ingredients in it. I wish I would have known to therefore ask for the chicken to be diced more. However, no complaints about the taste at all. While the food here is delicious, the portion sizes are minuscule. My brother ordered a seaweed salad... it contained two bites of seaweed on a bed of shredded carrots. When I shared my concern with the waiter, he said "that's just how we do it ." Two bites for $8! Also, sushi restaurants serve sushi rolls with eight pieces for about $12-$15, but theirs has six pieces for approximately $16-$19. It is a bummer to spend $40-50 pp (no drinks!) and to walk out hungry. And my concerns about the two bite salad were not heard. Disappointing. read more

Booked ta reservation for February 14th for 2 people. We arrived and their was free parking in the rear. The opening of the parking was a little confusing but not too hard to find once you turn around. We were greeted and sat immediately. The first drink that was ordered was brought out very quickly. I am always nervous when two cuisines are under one roof... Thai and Sushi. Mail does it right! The staff are very attentive and the restaurant is beautiful. There's an upstairs, a mainish floor and a patio. Interestingly, there are restrooms on the floor just away from the host station AND some located on the upstairs/bar floor. Very well thought out! I started with the coconut chicken soup- it had an aggressive lime background flavor. I followed that with a shrimp tempura roll minus the mayo and ended with the panang shrimp. All three were well spiced and full of flavor and beautifully plated. The shrimp in the panang was slightly over cooked causing it to be chewy. It was still edible but a little off putting. So maybe this is a great eat-in restaurant - it has a good reputation. But we ordered to deliver, and the food was.... Insulting. Not in its quality - it was fine (not great, but fine). But the quantities were ridiculously tiny. You shouldn't spend $100 and get food that includes two $20 sushi rolls that together struggle to half-fill a small container. Honestly, it felt like a prank when we opened it. We were two people with not very large appetites, and after a $100 we were left figuring out what we were going to have for dinner. Skip. If I could, I would rate it no stars. I love Thai food and I frequent different Thai establishments often. I also make Thai food at home too. So I came here to grab a quick dinner with my friend. Based on the reviews, we thought this would be a decent place. It's not hard to make a flavorful dish. I was so very wrong. I got the spicy garlic chicken. There was nothing spicy about it. In fact, there was nothing garlicy about it either. It was EXTREMELY bland. There was absolutely was no 'sauce'. The vegetables didn't even have an ounce of flavoring. I had to ask for sweet chili sauce which I ended up dousing my food in just for me to get through the meal. And then when the check comes, I only come to find out the sauce was charged as well! You'll never see me back here. My friend said her shrimp tempura sushi was awful too and her Thai tea had a 'too steeped' flavoring. Save yourself the trouble and don't come here. read more

Going here for dinner here on Valentine's day was a disaster. I'm not putting blame on the restaurant as I saw how understaffed they were and how hard the employees were working. With the labor shortages going on plus it being the biggest eating out night of the year, it was no surprise when it took our food over an hour to come. Tbh, I was not super impressed with the food. It's really expensive and the portions are quite small for everything ranging from the curry to the stir frys. There are a lot of other places where you can pay about the same for curry and get twice the amount. It was also just okay. Outside of the wait times, our server wasn't the most enthusiastic. I understand it was hectic but please be nicer to your customers who are overpaying for your food. I probably won't be back. Visited on a Friday night. There is plenty of free parking. Upon walking in was quickly seated. They have an inside and an outside area which is fully enclosed. Their drinks were awesome tried the frozen strawberry. The appetizer Yin Yang was something new and different to me and delicious! The spring rolls are also good- in line with what you would expect. For the main course had Massaman it was very yummy! A friend I was with ordered the sushi and was a bit disappointed with the portion size. I wish I had the pictures from this meal because this is probably some of the best Thai food I've ever had in Atlanta. My boyfriend told me that he had been here years ago and across his mind so we went and we're not disappointed. I ended up getting the shrimp, clay pot, someone got the lamb chops, and three people got some type of curry. I believe there was a Penang, curry, a red curry, and a green curry. All of them were unique and flavor, and so delicious, no flavor on the dish was overpowering and there was a great portion size! I loved every single dish at the table and I cannot wait to go back to this restaurant again. The only thing I would say is that the lamb chops are quite overpriced for the portion and I would have knocked off 10 or $15 from it but that's just me personally! I really liked the sauce that we ordered on the side, it was a sort of fish us with red birds, eye chili, and it made my shrimp clay pot come to life! 10 out of 10 would recommend and I cannot wait to return here, so I can order a curry and enjoy it all over again read more

Delicious food. Just ate here for my first time and enjoyed the entree dishes. I had the Tom Yum with shrimp, and the Pad Kee Mao with tofu and Mango Sticky Rice). Pad Kee Mao: the vegetables were cooked perfectly, colorful and bright and well seasoned. The Tom Yum soup only came with one piece of shrimp which is $1 more than the other option... but still really tasty. I know it's not mango season right now but the dessert was still pretty good, although, I do have a preference for the sesame seeds instead of what they top their rice with (Mango Sticky Rice). This is a great spot for Thai in Atlanta. We came in on a random Tuesday night around 7 without a reservation, and we were seated within 15 minutes. The restaurant was pretty busy though! Service was great. We got our drinks and food shortly after arriving, and the food was great. I had the pad Thai. The sauce was sweeter than most but it was still pretty good. I appreciated that the bean sprouts that came with the dish. My only criticism would be the shrimp- it was quite dry and I couldn't really eat it. I'd recommend coming here! read more

I ordered take out last Saturday with a pick up at 5:25. I arrived at 5:25 and I was told my order would take 15 more minutes. After 20 minutes they said another 5 minutes. Then the woman said "it's because you ordered a lot of food". In front of everyone who was standing outside. Oooookay. So then after 25 minutes she comes out with a bag of food and I was about to check it and she said "you don't need to check it, it's all there." This place is awful all around! My coworkers and I each ordered Shrimp Pad Thai and an order of the Yin Yang. The food was over cooked, not prepared as specified, and you have to pay for peanut sauce. I asked for them to make it spicy and they did not make it spicy. The Yin Yangs were barely had any filling. So I have no idea what it's supposed to taste like. They give you three shrimp with the entire Pad Thai dish and you have to pay for additional. Peanut sauce is $0.75 extra and Garlic Chilli sauce is $0.95 additional. They were so worried about charging for the condiments that they didn't prepare the meals as we specified. Her exact words, "Oh I forgot to make it spicy." She quickly hung up without attempting to offer a correction of some sort. The presentation of the food looked like it could've came from a fast food chain not some place that charges $14.25 for a plain, basic, lunch entree. Amazing!! The menu is fantastic, so many good options for my fellow picky eaters + vegetarians. Everything is so flavorful without needing to be spicy and the service is perfect. I've made friends with multiple servers here because I keep coming back for an easy and delicious meal. The food comes out right on time and everyone there is working their hardest, I've never left a poor or even mediocre tip in the many times I've gone. On top air all the good food and speedy service, the vibe is great. Well decorated and nicely sized place, there's a screened patio with lots of tables and even more inside, all of which are well spaced without wasting room. I would definitely recommend Mali to anyone in Atlanta. (PS - just a side note, the bathrooms here (there are four total, two girls and two boys) are super clean, at least in my case as a woman.) read more
