    Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice
    Nitya C.

Umi was everything I expected and more! I came here for my birthday dinner and had the most amazing meal and will never stop raving about the hospitality! The food was absolutely delicious. For appetizers we got the tuna tataki, salmon yuzuviche, spicy tuna crispy rice, and seaweed salad. The crispy rice is a MUST. Absolutely packed with flavor and amazing texture. For mains we got the Black Cod Misoyaki, Rock shrimp tempura, spicy tuna box roll and the hurricane roll. The black cod misoyaki simply blew us away, not an exaggeration. The spicy tuna box roll was not only yummy but also beautiful!! For drinks we got the Paloma and Kyodai-- both great and strong. And since it was my birthday they brought complimentary chocolate truffles with a candle! I can't wait to come back. Parking- Umi will validate the valet and it is only $2.

Umi is absolutely an Atlanta must-try. We went for Valentine's Day and honestly couldn't even tell it was a holiday because the service was that smooth. Service was a 10/10, ambiance was solid, and shoutout to our server Patrick who really made the night. The only real downside was finding the restaurant at night, which was unnecessarily frustrating. Also, the menu is very extensive. If you're Type A or new to sushi, I highly recommend reviewing the menu ahead of time so you're not overwhelmed once you sit down. Food-wise, there were clear standouts. The Wagyu beef carpaccio was unreal. Truly one of the best things I've had and a must-order starter. The miso soup was comforting and flavorful, perfect if you're cold. Drinks were well balanced and not overly sweet, especially the lychee martini and benihime. Sushi and rolls were a mixed bag depending on personal taste. The eel avocado shrimp tempura roll was a favorite, and the American tuna roll was solid. Some nigiri textures just aren't for me yet, but my husband loved them, especially the otoro and salmon options. The baked lobster tempura wasn't bad, just not particularly memorable. Dessert was decent. The angel food cake was enjoyable, but the donut wasn't my thing since it was filled. That one comes down to preference. Overall, the quality, service, and experience make Umi worth the hype, and I can't wait to go back. Just plan ahead, know what you want to order, and let the kitchen do its thing.

I finally was able to make it to Umi. I've heard soooo many amazing things but of course had to be the judge myself. As a sushi lover I had VERY high expectations and they exceeded in every aspect. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance strikes the perfect balance between upscale and inviting dim lighting, sleek design, and an energy that feels special without being pretentious. The service is consistently top tier. Knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the menu, the staff makes thoughtful recommendations and times each course perfectly. You never feel rushed, yet everything flows seamlessly. We started with the jalapeño yellowtail, which was bright, fresh, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of heat. Our server recommended the Sake Aioli nigiri, which was an absolute standout. Rich yet clean and beautifully layered. The classic salmon nigiri was melt in your mouth, and the spicy tuna crispy rice delivered the perfect balance of crunch and flavor. We also tried a specialty roll recommended by the server, which did not disappoint and rounded out the sushi selections perfectly. From the hot dishes, the Lobster Toban-Yaki completely stole the show. The presentation was stunning, and the flavors were just as impressive luxurious, rich, and perfectly executed. And you can't forget the greens. We had the Brussels sprouts which were the perfect mix of tangy and crunchy, cooked just right with a light char that didn't overpower the dish. 10/10 overall I can not wait to come back!

Umi is located in Buckhead Village, and comes highly recommended. We decided to head over there and the ambiance was super nice. Parking options are the self parking deck or valet. Being a sushi fanatic, I was super excited about this place. The server was super nice and helped us pick a few items from the menu. We ended up getting the Kamikaze roll, Hurricane Roll, Saki Aioli Nigiri and Otoro Caviar Nigiri. I was super underwhelmed! I could not believe it, the sushi, the fish, the flavor & freshness was subpar. For the price and the experience, I was expecting something out of the ordinary. I will not be returning to Umi.

Umi is one of the better options for sushi in Atlanta. The location is ideal. There's a green space outside of the restaurant that is so nice in any season but winter. It's usually a bit windy. The door to Umi is unassuming and can be easily missed. When requesting a reservation ask not to be seated on the patio in winter. It can be quite chilly even though it is enclosed and it is VERY dark. The main dining area is the most desirable. By all means, let them know you do not want to sit in the area by the hostess area. It is a very busy walkway and you can feel the cold air every time the door is opened. The waitstaff is very friendly and accommodating. They are quite knowledgeable about the different sushi. They also have vegetarian options. The rock shrimp are amazing and we've never missed the opportunity to have them. Always a favorite. The edamame is ok. It's nothing special, but good for snacking on. The Brussels sprouts are phenomenal. They are spicy, sweet, and simply wonderful.

Food was delicious! We dined here while visiting from out of town and let's just say it exceeded our expectations. We had omakase but would definitely order just off the menu next time. Everything looked/is amazing. The staff were super friendly. It was recommended to us to make reservations, so we had reservations plans prior to our trip that was at least 2-3 weeks in advance.

Everything we ate was incredibly fresh and very tasty. Miso cod was scrumptious! Setting is gorgeous. Service was outstanding. But the prices are incredibly high.

I'm into fitness.. like fitness whole sushi in my mouth~ :P From the moment I walked in @umisushiatl, the ambiance set the tone--elegant, modern, and sophisticated, yet still warm and welcoming. Omakase by Chef @kazuosushiboss was another great Omakase experience in the books! Each course was thoughtfully curated. What stood out most was not just the impeccable quality of the fish but also the harmony of textures and flavors. Each bite had its own story, and the pacing allowed me to fully appreciate every element. The uni was my personal favorite. It was so fresh & clean. Arigato & I learned a new word to prepare me for Japan "Itadakimasu" meaning "I humbly receive." Highly recommend for sushi lovers, special occasions, or anyone wanting to indulge in a truly elevated culinary experience.

This was one of the rolls being freshly made

The service was outstanding. The sushi was even better. It was fresh. It was very well seasoned and the ambience of the restaurant met the Perfomance by the staff. It was full, even though it was close to closing time, but it was delicious.

I loved my experience at Umi in Buckhead!! We tried a variety of dishes, and I highly recommend all of them! We had the spicy tuna crispy rice, yellowtail jalapeno, eel avocado and shrimp roll, lobster, and otoro nigiri. I also tried the lychee martini which was perfect, not too sweet but also not too bitter!! The service was great, our server was very sweet and quick, the interior is clean and decorated beautifully with dark, intimate lighting, and they have so many different dishes on the menu to try. I definitely will come back for more!!

What a great ambiance in this place!! Came to celebrate a friends birthday. I loved everything about this place. Sick i didn't get a pic of the surf n turf roll. Please get it it was amazing. Only 4 stars due long wait with reservation. This place is not super large and great for small groups or date night. I want to go back and try more options. Service was amazing, food was good and provided a nice clean atmosphere. Drinks are strong if you like them that way. I had a lychee martini and omg delish!

The main entrance is easy to miss, but once we found our way inside, we had an excellent dining experience for our anniversary. My favorite dishes were the nigiri (sake aioli and madai - red snapper) and the tuna carpaccio starter. Everything tasted incredibly fresh. For some reason, the restaurant is very loud. It was great for an anniversary dinner, but would be terrible for a first date. The servers were very nice, and I appreciated how promptly they grabbed plates to create space at our small table. Parking is either valet or in the Buckhead Plaza deck.

Umi in Atlanta is it for top-tier sushi in Buckhead. The whole place has this dark, moody vibe with an orange backlit glow that makes everything feel sleek. Started off with the thinly sliced yellowtail jalapeño and the spicy tuna crispy rice, which were both very good. Then came the rock shrimp, which were little bites of crispy, creamy perfection. But the real standout... the scallop and the lobster. Absolutely unreal. They cut everything so beautifully that it's almost too pretty to eat... I said almost. If you're into high-quality sushi with flawless presentation, Umi is the move.

I wasn't sure how all the flavors would come together, but everything surprisingly worked so well. Next, I ordered the Langoustine Roll with pressed rice. At first, I didn't think I was going to like it, but it ended up being sooo flavorful and incredibly easy to eat. If you have a smaller mouth like me, you don't have to worry about making a mess because the sushi was so soft and practically melted with every bite. Of course, I had to order their Casanova Roll since it's what they're best known for, and it definitely did not disappoint! It was on the sweeter side with plenty of sauce, which was perfect for my palate. Now onto the Miso Steak. I ordered it medium, but some bites toward the end were more well done. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything special either, so I personally wouldn't recommend it. Overall, I had a great experience here, but I do think the food is overpriced. Also, be prepared to squint a little at the menu because it is very dark inside!

Law of supply and demand. But given the elevation in quality of life this establishment has provided me with across the years, I feel I owe them some good marketing through a review. If there was a sushi coefficient of freshness, quality, quantity, and cost, this place wins everyday. C= (Fr*Q*q*c) Fr: 9 Q: 8 q: 10 c: 10 C(Yokohama)= 7200 Don't get me wrong - the competition is fierce for delicious sushi (Fudo, MF sushi, Nobu, all the Omakase scenarios popping up in town). What this means is the cost (c) is way too high, giving it a low 1-5 in the equation. Also, quantity (q) is low, about 4-6. So, the resulting coefficient is very low overall. From my understanding, the fish here only comes from Japan, so it's good stuff - and they really load up the rolls (a lot of the time), and they have this deal on weekend for special rolls (25% off I think). So you do get the quality, quantity, and decent price (about $12-15 per specialty roll). The regular rolls are good too, and loaded with fish. E.g. spicy salmon/tuna. The Samurai Roll was substantial and I appreciate the generosity of the roll. It was topped with salmon, and usually when rolls are topped with fish, it's usually a pretty thin slice of fish, but these slices of salmon were quite thick in my opinion. The pieces of sushi themselves are also fairly thick - it was a big bite for me to eat each piece in one. I made a reservation in advance and the staff already had my table ready even though I was a little early. The table was already dressed with menus, chopsticks, and some small plates/sauce dishes. For drinks, I got the Blooming Bokuso-chi which was very strawberry and floral forward and delicious. My friends got the lychee martini which was definitely strong. We loved all their gin-based drinks. For food, we got edamame, scallion pancake, crispy tofu and a croissant with mapo tofu for starters. The edamame was classic, the scallion pancake was SO delicious and the croissant was delightlfully light and fluffy. The mapo tofu was interesting but very similar to a hummus and great to dip our breads in. The crispy tofu took a while to arrive and honestly wasn't the most flavorful so I'd skip. We also got a few rolls: the yellowtail Jalapeno, aburi spicy tuna, black pepper wagyu, and negitoro ikura. All the rolls were great, but the spicy tuna was the fan favorite, with so much herby flavor and an interesting sauce. The wagyu was juicy and the yellowtail had a good kick. The negitoro had roe on top which was a fun texture but I'd try that as a hand roll instead the next time. It was also super fun to brush soy sauce onto all our rolls! We finished out with the espresso martini soft serve, cinnamon mocha cruffin, and the sizzling matcha for dessert. Everything was SO delicious, and we loved the table side experience of the sizzling matcha. We ordered the smashed wagyu brioche, the yellowtail jalapeno and black pepper temaki, and the truffle duck shoyu ramen. While everything tasted good, most of our food arrived lukewarm, as if it had been sitting out for a while. The hottest dish we ate was the ramen. Additionally, we ordered the Hay-smoked miso duck breast and an espresso martini. Overall, it was a decent experience, and the decor is beautiful, but the service, food temperature, and cocktails fell short for us.
